Open Safety Recalls (2)
NHTSA Campaign: 22V031000
Component: AIR BAGS
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, 2017-2018 Forte, and 2017 Forte Koup vehicles. The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash.
Risk: Air bags that do not deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect the ACU, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 21, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC226.
NHTSA Campaign: 19V207000
Component: SEAT BELTS: REAR/OTHER:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2019 Sedona vehicles equipped with an 8-passenger seat arrangement. The seat belt buckle for the second-row middle seat may have been improperly installed on the wrong side of the seat, preventing the proper use of the 3-point seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Risk: A seat belt that cannot be properly used increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Fix: Kia has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt installation, and reinstall the seat belt buckle to the correct side if necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 8, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia 's number for this recall is SC177.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 32)
Engine →5 issues
Your engine has developed a hole approximately 2x2 inches in the bottom engine housing, causing complete engine failure. This is a severe mechanical problem that will prevent your vehicle from running. The engine housing will likely need to be replaced or professionally repaired.

Your 2019 Kia Sedona is displaying a red oil light on the dashboard and has an oil pressure switch that is leaking. These are the same symptoms covered in a recall for 2010-2018 Sedona models, but your 2019 model year was not included in that recall. The oil pressure switch will likely need to be replaced to stop the leak and turn off the warning light.

Your engine is consuming oil at a higher than normal rate. The engine may need to be replaced after 75,000 miles of driving. This could indicate a serious internal engine problem that requires professional diagnosis and repair.

Your engine is burning through oil faster than normal. After an oil change, you needed to add three quarts of oil after only 2,500 miles of driving. Previously, your oil level dropped so low that the dipstick showed no oil, even though your car didn't warn you about it. If the oil gets too low while you're driving, it could cause serious engine damage.

Your engine is making a rattling noise when you accelerate, and a mechanic found the oil level critically low with only one quart remaining, despite regular oil changes and no visible leaks. The mechanic indicated the pistons aren't firing correctly, though no warning lights appeared and there are no error codes. You'll likely need the oil level investigated for an internal leak, the pistons and fuel injectors inspected, and a complete oil and filter change to restore proper engine operation.

Structure →5 issues
Your power sliding doors aren't closing properly and are opening too far, which has damaged the motors and caused repeated beeping. This is a serious safety concern because objects or body parts hanging out the window could get crushed. You've already replaced the motor and actuator, but the problem persists, and now your left door is developing the same issue. The dealership discovered that the left door actuator was incorrectly installed in the right door from the factory, suggesting a manufacturing defect that may require complete door system inspection and replacement.

Your driver's side power sliding door doesn't always close and latch properly when you use the automatic opener. The door usually beeps to alert you that it hasn't fully closed, requiring you to manually shut it. In two instances, the door has opened on its own while parked, and you've heard reports of this happening to other owners while driving. The fix will likely involve inspecting and adjusting the door latch mechanism or replacing the door's electrical actuator assembly.

Your sliding doors won't latch properly when you close them. This is a known issue that has affected other model years, though no official fix has been issued for your 2019 model yet. The doors may not stay securely closed while driving, which is a safety concern.

Your driver's side power sliding door won't close properly — it grinds, beeps, and shows as open on your dashboard display. When you turn off the power feature, the door also won't open manually, leaving you unable to operate it either way.

Your sliding doors trigger the car alarm even when they're properly closed. You've had the door sensor replaced, but the alarm still sounds—and it beeps more frequently when turning away from that door or coming to a stop. This appears to be a known issue affecting multiple vehicles of this model year.

Air Bags →2 issues
Your 2019 Kia Sedona was involved in a two-vehicle collision at low speed (20 MPH) when rear-ended and pushed into another vehicle ahead. The driver-side and passenger-side airbags did not deploy during the impact, even though a collision occurred. The vehicle had approximately 75,000 miles at the time. A mechanic will need to inspect the airbag system's sensors, wiring, and control module to determine why the airbags failed to activate.

Your side impact airbag failed to deploy during a high-speed crash where another vehicle hit your van on the driver's side, resulting in a head injury to the driver. The impact was severe enough to displace the engine. This raises serious concerns about whether the airbag system properly detected the collision and triggered deployment.

Fuel System, Gasoline →2 issues
Your car is emitting a strong fuel odor that has made you and passengers feel sick, and your check engine light has been flashing on and off. The dealer has replaced several fuel system parts multiple times over the past year but hasn't been able to fix the problem. An independent mechanic confirmed the leak and noted that the exhaust is running very hot, which could potentially cause a fire hazard. Fixing this will likely require a thorough inspection and replacement of fuel system components, possibly including the fuel injectors, fuel pump, or fuel lines.

You're noticing a strong fuel smell inside your cabin, and your check engine light is staying on. Your dealer found that the high-pressure fuel regulator was faulty and replaced it, but the smell and warning light came back. The fix will likely involve diagnosing why the replacement regulator is also failing, which may require checking fuel system connections, seals, or getting another replacement part.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting,service Brakes →2 issues
Your left brake light has failed multiple times and needed replacement 4 times already. You've noticed this same problem affects other Kia Sedonas as well. The issue likely stems from a faulty wiring connection or defective light assembly that keeps failing prematurely.

Your driver's side brake light needs replacing about every 3 months, which is much more frequent than normal. You've noticed this same problem on other Kia Sedonas as well. The issue likely involves either a defective brake light bulb, a wiring problem causing the light to burn out prematurely, or a faulty socket connection.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your ABS and Traction Control warning lights came on when you braked at a stop sign, and you heard a loud grinding noise from the back of the vehicle. Your Sedona took significantly longer to stop—overshooting the stop bar by a full vehicle length—which put you in a safety-critical situation in the intersection. The warning lights came back on after restarting the vehicle. A repair may involve diagnosing and potentially replacing the ABS module or addressing brake system components that are causing the grinding noise and loss of braking effectiveness.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car's door sensor failed to detect your hand in the doorway, allowing the door to close and latch on your finger. You had to press the door open button to release your hand. The door motor was previously repaired by the dealer, but the safety sensor that should prevent the door from closing when an obstruction is detected did not function properly.

Seat Belts →1 issue
Your passenger side seat belt won't click into the buckle properly. The dealership told you they can't repair it unless there's an official recall issued for this problem.

Tires →1 issue
Your original equipment tire developed uneven cupping around the bead after only 16,000 miles, causing severe vibration and making the vehicle hard to control during highway driving. The tire wasn't mounting properly on the rim even though the rim itself was fine. The tire manufacturer refused to cover the $261.67 replacement cost. Replacing the affected tire and checking the rim and wheel balance should resolve the vibration issue.
