Component: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2019 Optima vehicles equipped with Gamma 1.6L Turbo-GDI or Theta II 2.0L Turbo-GDI engines. A software error in the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system may cause the braking assist function to not engage when a stationary vehicle is detected.

Risk: Improper intervention of the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will update the FCA software, free of charge. The recall began August 27, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC179.

FireFiled: Nov 2025

Your engine caught fire on November 11, 2025, even though you had it replaced less than a year ago due to a recall and have kept up with regular oil changes. You had no warning lights on the dashboard indicating overheating before the fire started. The fire risk suggests an underlying defect in the replacement engine or engine system that needs immediate investigation.

Your 2019 Kia Optima is burning oil rapidly — you need to add a quart every two weeks. A mechanic and Kia dealership both diagnosed that cylinder 4 is burning oil and recommend replacing the engine long block assembly. Kia has issued a technical service bulletin about this oil consumption problem. The repair will likely involve removing and replacing the engine's long block (the main engine block with cylinders and internal components).

Your engine is burning oil even after an oil change, and you're experiencing shaking or vibration while driving with no visible damage found. This could indicate internal engine wear or valve seal issues. A mechanic will need to diagnose the root cause, which might involve checking valve seals, piston rings, or other internal engine components.

Your red oil pressure warning light and check engine light came on. After an oil change and pressure test showed no problems, a shop replaced the oil pressure sensor switch and variable valve timing solenoid, but the lights stayed on. A Kia dealership replaced the oil pressure sensor switch again with an OEM part, but the lights are still illuminated. The issue may require further diagnostic testing to identify what's triggering both warning lights.

Your car's paint is bubbling and peeling off in spots, which is affecting your vehicle's trade-in value. The dealer indicated this is a common issue with white-colored vehicles. Addressing this would likely involve stripping the affected areas and repainting them to match your car's finish.

Your car's paint is peeling off in large areas, and this appears to be a manufacturing defect where the paint wasn't properly bonded to the body during production. This is a cosmetic issue that affects the appearance of your vehicle. Fixing this typically requires having the affected areas professionally repainted or refinished by a body shop.

The paint on your hood is peeling off. This is a cosmetic issue that doesn't affect how your car drives, but it can expose the underlying metal to rust over time. The fix would likely involve repainting the hood or having the hood replaced and repainted.

Your engine suddenly stopped working the day after a dealership service visit, even though it was running perfectly beforehand with no warning signs. An independent inspection found metal shavings in your engine oil, which indicates internal engine damage. This unexpected engine failure created a safety risk since your car lost power without warning. The repair will likely require engine replacement or a complete engine rebuild.

After having a software upgrade performed on your engine computer as part of a recall service, you noticed that your car's downshifting became rough, jolty, and clunky—a problem that didn't exist before the service. The dealership said they couldn't reproduce the issue and claimed the software upgrade shouldn't cause it, but you've reported the problem to Kia Corporate.

FireFiled: Dec 2025

After having routine maintenance done on your valve cover gasket, the low-pressure GDI fuel line became brittle and cracked, spraying fuel onto hot engine surfaces. This caused a fire in the engine compartment about 10 minutes after starting the car, which also caused your brakes to begin failing and triggered the check engine light. The fix will likely involve replacing the fuel line and inspecting other fuel system components for damage from the heat.

Your 2019 Kia Optima misfires and shakes when starting, then settles down after a few seconds. The owner is concerned this could be the same high-pressure fuel pump issue that prompted recalls on other Kia models from 2019-2023, which could cause the engine to stall while driving.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2019 Kia Optima is consuming oil internally at an abnormal rate — mechanics found no oil in the engine at 172,636 miles and again at 175,495 miles, despite no visible external leaks. Your oil warning light has begun flickering intermittently while driving. This poses a serious safety risk because sudden engine failure could cause you to lose power, stall, or have an accident. The issue likely requires internal engine inspection and possible engine rebuild or replacement.

Your car's anti-theft system unexpectedly activated while you were driving, causing the airbags to deploy and resulting in a spinal injury. This appears to be a malfunction of the security system that triggered a safety response while the vehicle was in motion.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your check engine light came on while driving at highway speed, and your engine started misfiring shortly after a catalytic converter replacement. A mechanic determined your engine had failed and mentioned a possible recall, but the dealer found engine damage that wasn't covered under warranty. Your vehicle was never repaired. Fixing this issue will likely require a full engine replacement or major internal engine repair.

Your car is burning through oil quickly, requiring a quart every two weeks despite regular oil changes. The engine stalled and your accelerator stopped working, and a mechanic found dark, tarry oil coating the coil packs and spark plugs, which they replaced. The mechanic warned that your engine is at risk of failure and that the repairs may not hold without a complete engine replacement, leaving you concerned about the car stalling while driving.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your 2019 Kia Optima is experiencing brake system failures and a forward collision warning light that keeps coming on, along with non-functioning cruise control. You experienced a complete loss of brakes during driving, which nearly caused a head-on collision. Your dealership says there's no recall available, but you believe one exists. The issue likely involves the brake system and forward collision avoidance system, which may require diagnostic testing and possible component replacement or software updates.

Your engine is sputtering and running rough, with the check engine light on. A mechanic found burned spark plugs with oil inside the cylinders, which causes misfires. Even after repair, the problem returned months later and was diagnosed as excessive oil consumption leaking into the combustion chamber. The fix will involve replacing spark plugs and addressing the underlying oil leak into the cylinders.

Your 2019 Kia Optima is experiencing a ticking noise from the engine, along with white smoke and a burning oil smell. You're needing to add oil every 2-3 days, which suggests the engine is burning through oil at an unusually fast rate. Your dealership identified the ticking as injector noise but hasn't resolved the burning oil issue. Diagnosing this problem will likely involve inspecting the fuel injectors, checking for internal engine wear or damage, and possibly performing a compression test.

Your engine is burning through oil quickly—about 1 quart every 1,000 miles—even though there's no visible leak. You'll need to refill your oil several times between regular oil changes. Additionally, the paint on your hood and bumper is peeling in multiple spots, starting along the hood's windshield edge and spreading across the hood and bumper. The engine oil burning issue may require internal engine inspection or valve seal replacement, while the paint peeling will likely need a professional repaint or touch-up.
