RECALLCampaign #24V111000

VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. A hybrid control processor (HCP) software error may cause the defrosting and defogging system to be inoperative. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems."

Fix: Dealers will update the HCP software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 29, 2024. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 04B.

I had gone out to do errands in the morning. My errands were in a nearby military base, approximately 4 miles from my home. When I returned, I parked in my driveway. When I went back to my vehicle to retrieve something, there was a large (approximately 2 foot) crack on my windshield. It was not there on my morning errand run and there was no other way the windshield would have cracked. This is a 2023 Jeep purchased on March 11, 2023. The vehicle currently only has 3,141 miles on it. I am concerned that there is a defect on the windshield glass, a much crucial part of a vehicle's safety feature. There are other Jeepers are reporting the same issue, but we have no place to turn to because the dealers shut us down!

The front defrost fails to blow any air on the windshield directly in front of the drivers seat, causing visibility issues in winter weather or whenever the windshield fogs up. The vehicle was brought to the dealer and the dealer indicated that the defrost is working as normal and that they just don’t blow air anywhere but in the center. Even when explaining that a windshield that ices up is a safety issue when driving, they indicated there is nothing that can be done.
