CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 LEFT HAND DRIVE JEEP LIBERTY, DODGE NITRO AND RAM 1500 TRUCK; RIGHT AND LEFT HAND DRIVE JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH AN IMPROPERLY FORMED MASTER CYLINDER TO HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) BRAKE TUBE ASSEMBLY END FLARE.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE TUBES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-853-1403.

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2010 JEEP WRANGLER LEFT AND RIGHT HAND DRIVE PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 15, 2006 THROUGH APRIL 22, 2010. THERE MAY BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT INNER FENDER LINERS AND THE RIGHT FRONT AND LEFT REAR BRAKE TUBES WHICH COULD CAUSE WEAR OF THE TUBES CAUSING A BRAKE FLUID LEAK.
Fix: CHRYSLER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-853-1403.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPROX 45MPH IN THE RH LANE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION WITH AN ILLUMINATED GREEN RIGHT-TURN ARROW(MY LANE), A VEHICLE IN THE SAME LANE, TRAVELING SAME DIRECTION, SUDDENLY STOPPED AT THE GREEN LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED HARD PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL, ONLY TO HAVE IT SLAM STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR-BOARD WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING ACTION. I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY DOWN-SHIFT AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE IN TIME TO AVOID COLLISION WITH STOPPED VEHICLE. I CAREFULLY DROVE VEHICLE TO MY HOME, APPROX 3 MILES FROM INCIDENT INTERSECTION. UPON INSPECTION I NOTED BRAKE MASTER-CYLINDER EMPTY (IT WAS TOPPED-OFF TO "MAX" LINE WHEN CHECKED EVENING PRIOR), AND HYDRAULIC FLUID SPRAYED ALL-AROUND RIGHT (PASSENGER)-SIDE FRONT INNER WHEEL AND PUDDLED/DRIPPING AT BANJO-BOLT. YOU-TUBE RESEARCH FOUND A SIMILAR SITUATION WITH A JEEP 2 MODEL YEARS OLDER THAN MINE. I REPLACED THE LEFT BRAKE HOSE ASSEMBLY AS WELL, AND FOUND NEARLY AS-SEVERE CORROSION ON THE METAL CRIMP-ON FITTINGS THOUGH NO LEAKAGE HAD OCCURRED FROM THERE DURING THIS INCIDENT. SEE ATTACHMENTS FOR DIGITAL PICS TAKEN THROUGHOUT THE REPAIR PROCESS, AND EXCERPTS FROM THE MAINTENANCE LOGBOOK I MAINTAIN ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FRONT BRAKE LINES HAVE AN INSULATOR THAT COVERS THE HARD PIPE TO RUBBER CONNECTION. THIS INSULATOR ALLOWS MOISTURE TO COLLECT BETWEEN IT AND THE METAL FITTING THAT CONNECTS THE TWO DIFFERENT LINE MATERIALS. THE CONNECTION ROTS THROUGH AND THEN BEGINS TO LEAK. THE REAR LINES DO NOT HAVE THIS INSULATOR ON THAT CONNECTION AND THEY ARE IN PERFECT CONDITION. THE INSULATOR APPEARS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE FAILURE. I NOTED THE LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID WHILE DOING OTHER MAINTENANCE ON THE JEEP.
TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A YEARLY INSPECTION AND GARAGE TOLD ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES RUBBING ON THE TIRES WHEN THE WHEELS WERE TURNED ALL THE WAY. MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE WEAR AND ASKED IF I PUT ANY AFTER MARKET PARTS ON THE VIHICLE. I CONFIRMED EVERYTHING WAS STOCK. TOLD ME THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BEING THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WHERE THE BRAKE LINES WERE ROUTED TOO CLOSE TO THE TIRES AND ALMOST WORE THROUGH THE BRAKE LINES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE LINES REROUTED AND NO RECALLS WERE ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON SEVERAL JEEP FORUMS. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEMS.
BREAKS: WHEN THE JEEP IS OFF THE PEDAL WILL PUMP UP WITH PRESSURE BUT WHEN IM DRIVING THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR IF I JUST PRESS IT ONE TIME.
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON MY 2010 WRANGLER DOES NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE ON ANY SORT OF INCLINE. THE VIRGINIA CODE FOR A PARKING/ EMERGENCY BRAKE STATES THAT IT MUST STALL THE VEHICLE IN 2ND GEAR (IT DOES) BUT THE BRAKE WILL NOT MAINTAIN THE POSITION OF THE VEHICLE ON THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE. I'M CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY ROLL AWAY INTO THE ROAD AND CAUSE HARM TO OTHERS. FURTHERMORE, IF I WERE TO BE IN THE VEHICLE THEN I MAY BECOME TRAPPED WITH IT ROLLING IN TO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE EARLY 2007-2017 BODY STYLE WRANGLER AND NEEDS ATTENTION BEFORE IT CAUSES SERIOUS HARM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE DISINTEGRATING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED DUE TO WATER COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE BRAKE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FROM THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS AND FLUIDS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V236000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) . THE MANUFACTURE WAS ALERTED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. BOUGHT A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE FROM FAIRFIELD DODGE, CRYSLER, JEEP IN MUNCY , PA AND IN 4 MONTHS OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE IT HAD A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION SKID PLATE, ENGINE LIGHT ON DUE TO BROKEN SENSOR, IN NEED OF FOUR BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THEY STATED THAT WHEN THEY SERVICED THE VEHICLE WHEN THEY PURCHASED IT THAT THE ROTORS WERE CUT FOR THE LAST TIME WHEN THEY CERTIFIED THE VEHICLE FOR SALE ON THE LOT. AND NOW FOUR MONTHS LATER IT NEEDS $1,200.00 WORTH OF REPAIRS. THEY STATE THAT THE ESIM WAS BROKEN BY ME OR SOMEONE THAT WAS UNDER THE HOOD AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS BUT NOT THE LABOR THE SAME WITH THE BRAKES. I FEEL THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN FRONT LINE READY OR EVEN CERTIFIED WITH ALL THESE ISSUES, THEY ARE VERY, VERY POOR REPRESENTITIVES OF YOUR BRAND. I DID NOT BUY A JEEP TO HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITHIN FOUR MONTHS OF PURCHASE. THEN WHEN I ARRIVED THE DAY OF SERVICE THEY NO LONGER HAD MY RECALL PART THEY PUT IT ON ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT CAME IN BEFORE MINE. I LIVE TWO HOURS AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FAILED TO DO THERE JOB. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
INTERMITTENT LIGHTING OF ABS/AIRBAG. HORN NO LONGER WORKS. *TR
I TRIED TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I HAD ABOUT 150 TO 200 FEET TO THE BACK OF THE NEXT VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40 MPH. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES WERE PULSATING. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND I RELEASE AND PRESSED THE BRAKES AGAIN. THE VEHICLE NEVER STOPPED AND CONTINUED TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE POLICE WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE IT AWAY FROM THE SCENE, THE DEALER INSISTED THAT I PAY A TOW TRUCK TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND AFTER THE SECOND DAY I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION OR ANY HOPE OF ANY? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT FAILED, CAN OR WILL THEY FIX IT AND WHAT CAN I DO TO GET TO WORK NOW? I BOUGHT IT NEW IN OCT 2010 AND IT HAS 35286 MILES ON IT. WELL WITHIN WARRENTY.
ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. TRIED PUMPING BUT NOTHING. ENDED UP RUNNING THE RED LIGHT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GET IT TO STOP UNTIL I HAD CROSSED THROUGH ALL THE LANES TO THE OTHER SIDE. BRAKES STARTED WORKING AFTER CROSSING THE STREET AND CONTINUED TO WORK UNTIL TAKEN BACK TO JEEP SERVICE. THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE FLUID. FOUND INTERNAL FAILURE OF BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, INSTALLED NEW ONE AND BLEED MASTER CYLINDER. EVIDENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2010 MASTER CYLINDERS BUT MY JEEP DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW TYPE AND NOT THE SAME STYLE MASTER CYLINDER THAT FAILED. *JS *TR
STOCK 2010 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON ~25,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING ~ 25MPH ON A CITY STREET, BRAKES FAILED AND I DROVE THROUGH A STOP SIGN - I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE DASH AND ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BEFORE I COULD, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND I NOTICED FLAMES FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW. I JUMPED FROM THE JEEP. FIRE SERVICES WERE ON SCENE W/I 2 MINUTES AND JEEP WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES (AROUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT) W/I 30 SECONDS. *TR
2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED: ROUGHLY 10 MONTHS INTO OWNING MY NEW JEEP I NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE SQUEALING. THIS WAS NOT NOTICEABLE WITH THE TOP ON AND MUSIC PLAYING SO I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG THEY HAD BEEN MAKING THE NOISE. I ASKED MY HUSBAND TO TAKE A LOOK AND HE SAID HE COULDN'T REPLICATE THE SQUEALING. WE FOUND IT DID NOT ALWAYS MAKE THE NOISE WHEN I BRAKED. I TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL AND MENTIONED THE SQUEALING. THEY SAID POLLEN OR OTHER SMALL PARTICLES COULD SETTLE IN THEM AND CAUSE A TEMPORARY SQUEAK. AGAIN, WITH THE TOP ON AND MUSIC PLAYING I DIDN'T HEAR IT. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING DOWNTOWN WITH MY WINDOWS DOWN AND COULD HEAR THE SHRILL SQUEAL EVERYTIME I HIT A LIGHT. HAVING ANOTHER RECALL TO ATTEND TO AND AN OVERFLOWING GAS TANK ISSUE TO ADDRESS, I DECIDED TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE BRAKES. I HAD ALSO NOTICE THE RIDE HAD GOTTEN MUCH ROUGHER AND THE IDLE FELT SHAKY WHEN SITTING IN TRAFFIC. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED HE BELIEVED THERE WAS DEBRIS BETWEEN MY BRAKE PAD AND MY ROTOR WHICH CAUSED SIGNIFICANT PITTING IN THE ROTOR. THE PITTING WAS SO BAD THEY COULD NOT RESURFACE IT, BUT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY HUSBAND QUESTIONED THE LIKELIHOOD FOR SOMETHING TO GET LODGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PAD AND THE ROTOR AND THE TECHNICIAN AGREED IT WAS UNCOMMON. THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, WAS THEY SAID THE SAME PHENOMENON OCCURRED ON BOTH REAR BRAKES. BOTH? SINCE THE WARRANTY ONLY ADDRESSED THE BRAKES IN THE FIRST YEAR / 12K MILES, HE EXPLAINED THIS WAS NOT COVERED AND I WOULD NEED BOTH ROTORS REPLACED AT FULL COST. *KB
2010 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED: I RECENTLY TOOK MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ATTEND TO ANOTHER RECALL AND CHECK OUT SOME PROBLEMS - OVERFLOWING GAS TANK, SQUEALING BRAKES, ROUGH IDLE IN TRAFFIC, INCREASINGLY ROUGH AND LOUD RIDE. I PURCHASED MY JEEP NEW 18 MONTHS AGO AND IT NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 22K MILES. THEY REPLACED THE GAS TANK WHICH I NOW UNDERSTAND IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE 2010 RUBICONS. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH ROTORS WHICH ARE NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO DEBRIS GETTING CAUGHT BETWEEN THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTOR ON BOTH REAR BRAKES. AND, THEY EXPLAINED THE LOUD/ROUGH RIDE WAS FROM THE UNEVEN WEAR ON MY FRONT TIRES. THE TREAD ON MY FRONT TIRES SHOWED SEVERE CUPPING. THE TECH SAID IT WAS FROM NOT ROTATING MY TIRES OFTEN ENOUGH AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEPS SINCE THE FRONT HAS MORE "PLAY" AND THE REAR IS MORE "SOLID". HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY JEEP. I QUESTIONED WHETHER THE SIGNIFICANT UNEVEN WEAR WAS ACCEPTABLE AFTER ONLY 22K MILES. HE OFFERED NO OTHER SOLUTION OTHER THAN ROTATING THE DAMAGED TIRES TO THE BACK AND WAIT FOR THEM TO WEAR EVENLY. MY CONCERN WAS ROTATING THE TIRES WOULD JUST CREATE ISSUE WITH MY OTHER TWO TIRES AS WELL. HE SAID IT'S JUST NORMAL AND I'D NEED TO REPLACE ALL OF MY TIRES SOON ANYWAY. WITH THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE BEING ONLY 18 MONTHS WITH 22K MILES, I QUESTION IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO MY SUSPENSION. *KB
IN APRIL 2011, MY JEEP WENT IN FOR SERVICE AT HERB CHAMBERS. THERE WERE SAFETY RECALLS THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED AND I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN TO THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE ABOUT MY PARKING BRAKE BEING LOOSE AND NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE DIAGNOSIS I RECEIVED FROM THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE WAS THAT A MASSACHUSETTS REGISTERED SAFETY INSPECTOR EXAMINED MY PARKING BRAKE AND IT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IN MAY 2011, APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE, I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN ITS PARKING SPOT AT MY HOUSE AND WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE FIVE MINUTES LATER IT HAD ROLLED INTO THE WOODS. WHEN THE JEEP ROLLED INTO THE WOODS IT HIT THREE TREES RESULTING IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER RIPPING OFF. WHEN I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT JEEP THEY STATED I NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD ASSIST ME WITH. A CLAIM WAS FILED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND CHRYSLER COMPANY. CURRENTLY THE JEEP IS BEING REPAIRED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I FEEL THAT ONCE THE BODY WORK IS COMPLETE ON MY JEEP THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF THE JEEP WILL STILL BE DEFECTIVE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WILL FAIL AGAIN AND COULD SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGE PROPERTY OR A BYSTANDER. CHRYSLER SENT OUT A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR, HANK SULLIVAN, WHO INSPECTED THE PARKING BRAKE. WHEN REQUESTED TO BE ON SITE OF HIS INVESTIGATION OF MY VEHICLE MY REQUESTED WAS DENIED. ONCE HIS INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE I REQUESTED PAPERWORK TO VERIFY HE EXAMINED MY VEHICLE AND FOR A COPY OF THE RESULTS FOR MY OWN FILE, THAT REQUEST WAS ALSO DENIED. APPROXIMATELY A MONTH LATER, I AM STILL AWAITING A LETTER FROM CHRYSLER WITH DETAILS FROM HANK'S INVESTIGATION. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM CHRYSLER STATING THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN DISCRIMINATED AGAINST DUE TO MY AGE I LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES FOR THE SPECIAL CLAIMS DEPARTMENT AT CHRYSLER AND NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL BACK. ONLY ONCE I GOT ONE BACK. *TR
AFTER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR APPROX. 40 MILES I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT. I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO START SLOWING DOWN AND PROCEED TO GET INTO THE EXIT LANE. ONCE IN THE EXIT LANE I TRIED TO APPLY MORE BRAKE PRESSURE TO SLOW DOWN FASTER, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL SLOWLY TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO GET BACK ON TO THE FREEWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT AND ONTO A BREAKDOWN LANE TO SLOW DOWN. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AGAIN, AND AFTER APPLYING A MODERATE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR. USING ONLY MODERATE BRAKE PRESSURE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AND STOP. ANY MORE THAN MODERATE PRESSURE WOULD CAUSE THE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR. I CHECKED MY BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, AND IT WAS STILL AT THE MAX LEVEL, SO I PROCEEDED TO PUMP MY BREAKS TO TRY AND LOCATE A LEAK. THERE WERE NO LEAKS AND THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL DID NOT GO DOWN. I SLOWLY CONTINUED HOME KNOWING THAT I HAD LIMITED BRAKING ABILITY. AT HOME I INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AGAIN, AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID LOSS. I OPENED THE BRAKE FLUID CONTAINER AND INSPECTED THE FLUID LEVEL, THE FLUID LEVEL WAS AT THE MAX MARK, BUT I NOTICED SMALL BLACK PARTICLES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER. I CALLED THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND DESCRIBED THE INCIDENT. THEY PICKED UP MY VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. *TR
