Filed: Feb 2026

Your engine is misfiring during acceleration and deceleration, and your car is overheating with a coolant temperature warning. A mechanic diagnosed this as a blown head gasket with oil mixing into the coolant, which typically requires an engine rebuild or replacement. This is a serious issue that may require complete engine work to resolve.

NHTSA #: 11719774

Filed: Mar 2026

Your engine stalled at a stoplight when you tried to accelerate. The service engine light, electronic throttle control warning, and stop/start system warning all illuminated at the same time. After waiting a few minutes, the engine restarted normally. This could indicate an issue with the throttle control system, engine sensors, or the stop/start mechanism that needs diagnostic testing to identify the root cause.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your vehicle's electronic throttle body malfunctioned, which caused your battery to completely die. You experienced multiple warning signs including the car not accelerating beyond 45 mph, a brake pedal that wouldn't respond properly, and the vehicle wouldn't start. Your dashboard displayed numerous warning lights, and the problem was confirmed using a diagnostic scanner.

Your backup camera display randomly shows a blue screen instead of the camera feed. Your Uconnect infotainment system frequently freezes and stops responding to inputs. In the past, the system attempted to call 911 without your command and you couldn't cancel it—though it didn't complete since your phone wasn't connected, this unintended behavior is concerning. The fix will likely involve updating or replacing the infotainment system software and possibly the backup camera module.

After replacing both batteries in your 2019 Jeep Compass, you're experiencing a recurring issue where the "Stop safely vehicle will shut down" warning message appears, and your car has shut off completely while driving and won't restart. This dangerous loss of power during traffic is a serious safety concern that needs immediate attention. The problem likely involves the electrical system's charging or power distribution after the battery replacement and may require diagnostics to identify what's preventing the engine from running reliably.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting,vehicle Speed Control1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Mar 2026

While driving in the rain, your vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating beyond 20 mph without any warning lights or messages appearing. At the same time, your passenger windows stopped working and all your exterior lights (tail lights, turn signals, and emergency lights) went out. Your dealer ruled out fuses, battery, and engine problems, suggesting the issue is likely with your Body Control Module, though they haven't directly inspected it yet.

NHTSA #: 11727851
Electrical System,vehicle Speed Control,engine1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
Filed: Mar 2026

Your Jeep has experienced multiple serious electrical issues: the engine won't start reliably (even after battery replacement), the engine suddenly lost power and wouldn't accelerate above 20 MPH on a highway (creating a safety hazard), and the infotainment screen frequently glitches, won't respond to touch, and won't connect to phone chargers or CarPlay. The dashboard has also displayed coolant and O2 sensor warning codes. The dealership confirmed the battery isn't the problem, suggesting these are manufacturer defects rather than maintenance issues. Resolving this will likely require the dealership to diagnose and repair the electrical system, O2 sensor, and infotainment module under warranty.

NHTSA #: 11727330
Engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Mar 2026

Your oil warning light has flashed briefly and your engine has completely shut down while turning, happening twice within a month. This is especially dangerous because it could cause you to lose control while driving. The issue appears to be related to your start-stop system based on a previous complaint you filed. A mechanic should inspect your oil level, oil pressure sensor, and start-stop system to identify why the engine is shutting down unexpectedly.

NHTSA #: 11725720
Power Train,electrical System1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Mar 2026

Your engine suddenly seized while driving with no warning lights, and your parking brake activated on its own. The vehicle wouldn't restart initially, but after several attempts it started again—though the problem happened twice. When it failed to start the second time, a battery warning light appeared. A mechanic diagnosed a faulty PCM (powertrain control module), which controls your engine and transmission functions. Fixing this will require replacing the PCM unit.

NHTSA #: 11721368
Forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Feb 2026

Your emergency parking brake has engaged on its own while driving, which felt like being hit by another vehicle. This happened multiple times, and even after a Jeep dealership replaced the starter and checked for error codes, they couldn't find the root cause or guarantee it won't happen again. The dealership acknowledged that Jeep is aware of this same issue affecting multiple owners.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2019 Jeep Compass may suddenly lose all electrical power and shut down while driving due to auxiliary battery failure, leaving you without propulsion or power steering in traffic. This can happen with little to no warning, creating a serious safety risk. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and replacing the faulty auxiliary battery system.

NHTSA #: 11711354
Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
Filed: Jan 2026

Your engine is shutting down suddenly while you're driving, with a dashboard warning about high coolant temperature appearing and then disappearing quickly. This creates a dangerous loss of power in traffic, but mechanics can't find any error codes to diagnose the problem. The issue may involve the coolant temperature sensor, thermostat, or engine control system, and a technician will need to monitor the system closely to capture the fault code when it occurs.

NHTSA #: 11709251
Unknown Or Other, forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Dec 2025

Your Jeep's forward collision avoidance system is causing the engine to shut down unexpectedly while driving, leaving you without control of the vehicle. The car sometimes gives a warning to pull over before shutting off, and restarting temporarily fixes the issue until it happens again. Diagnostics point to a voltage surge problem involving the battery and ABS system, though some diagnostic equipment cannot fully communicate with your vehicle.

NHTSA #: 11707038
Power Train,electrical System,engine1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Filed: Dec 2025

Your vehicle is displaying a "coolant temperature too high" warning message and entering limp mode (reduced power) multiple times, even though your coolant level is normal and your temperature gauge shows normal readings. This has happened at least 5 times since August 2025, often while idling or in traffic, and forces you to shut off the engine to regain full power. This is a serious safety issue because it can disable your vehicle unexpectedly while driving in traffic.

NHTSA #: 11705537
Power Train,engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Dec 2025

Your engine oil is mixing with transmission fluid, turning your transmission fluid brown like chocolate milk. This is causing serious damage to both your transmission and engine, and your vehicle stopped running on the highway and needed to be towed. The dealership confirmed this is happening, and you've learned other 2019-2020 Compass owners are experiencing the same issue. A fix will likely require professional transmission and engine inspection or rebuilding to separate the fluids and repair the damaged components.

NHTSA #: 11705651
Engine And Engine Cooling,engine1 issue
criticalENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ENGINE
Filed: Dec 2025

Your engine overheated while driving, triggering a coolant warning light on your dashboard. After pulling over and adding coolant several times, you took it to the dealer and they found a failed cylinder that requires a complete engine replacement. This happened at around 141,000 miles.

NHTSA #: 11703282
Seat Belts1 issue
criticalSEAT BELTS
Filed: Nov 2025

During a collision with a deer, the rear seat belt came unhooked while your granddaughter was sitting in the back seat. This left the child unrestrained during the accident, which created a serious safety risk. The seat belt latch or attachment point may need inspection and repair to ensure it functions properly.

Back Over Prevention1 issue
highBACK OVER PREVENTION
Filed: Mar 2026

Your backup camera stopped working properly while reversing, and your Uconnect infotainment system became disabled, which also disabled navigation features. No warning light appeared on your dashboard. The manufacturer suggested a software update might fix it, but said you'd have to pay for it yourself.

Unknown Or Other1 issue
mediumUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2019 Jeep Compass dashboard radio screen freezes periodically and displays visual glitches like black screens, flashing lines, and octagon shapes. This screen malfunction is also affecting your remote start feature and causing the system to lose all functionality and change settings on its own. A software update or replacement of the infotainment system may be needed to resolve these display and control issues.
