NHTSA Campaign: 17V740000
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2017-2018 Jeep Compass vehicles. The brightness of the backlighting for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) cannot be adjusted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Risk: An instrument cluster that is too bright, and cannot be dimmed, can reduce the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update IPC software, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T70.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V824000
Component: EQUIPMENT
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Chrysler's number for this recall is T82.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V301000
Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles equipped with a 6-speed transmission. The left front halfshaft may not be properly seated, and, as a result, it may disengage from the transmission and/or break.
Risk: If the left front halfshaft disengages or breaks, the vehicle will have a loss of drive. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without using the parking brake, the vehicle may roll, despite being in 'Park.' Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the left front halfshaft for engagement and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission, free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T26.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V433000
Component: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles. The affected vehicles have User's Guides that contain incorrect information regarding the jump start procedure, specifically, the polarity of the battery terminals are reversed in the battery terminal graphic.
Risk: If a customer follows the User's Guide, they may hook up the battery jumper cables incorrectly, increasing their risk of injury.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners and will replace the User's Guides with a corrected version, free of charge. The recall began August 22, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T46.

Your Uconnect radio touchscreen is peeling apart and experiencing ghost touches that trigger random phone calls on their own, including to emergency services. This creates a serious safety hazard because you have to handle your phone to explain the false emergency to dispatchers, and it wastes emergency responder resources. The issue requires replacing the touchscreen display unit or the entire infotainment head unit.

While driving toward a stoplight, all dashboard warning lights suddenly turned on. Your car lost power and wouldn't accelerate after stopping, wouldn't shut off when put in park, and the transmission wouldn't shift into any gear. This represents a complete loss of vehicle control and is a serious safety hazard.

The wiring harness under your front wheel well has severely corroded, causing wires to disconnect from fuse connections. While driving on the highway with a child in the car, your vehicle suddenly jerked, dashboard lights flashed (including the airbag warning light), and the engine shut off completely and wouldn't restart. When attempting to jump-start the vehicle, the loose corroded wires sparked and came close to catching fire. The corroded wiring box will need to be inspected, cleaned, repaired, or replaced, and any damaged wires reconnected or rewired.

Your dashboard lights keep blinking with a message that 4-wheel drive isn't available, and your vehicle keeps shutting off while you're driving—which is dangerous. The dealer performed a recall repair that was supposed to fix the problem, but your vehicle continues to shut off unexpectedly. The issue likely involves the electrical system controlling your four-wheel drive and engine ignition.

Steering,service Brakes,engine →1 issue
Your Jeep Compass is stalling unexpectedly when you slow down or stop, with no warning lights beforehand. When this happens, you lose power steering, braking, and gear control, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. You've noticed your oil level is unusually low despite not being due for an oil change, suggesting your engine may be burning or leaking oil faster than normal. The fix will likely involve diagnosing why your engine is losing oil—this could range from checking for leaks to inspecting internal engine components.

Power Train,engine →1 issue
Your vehicle suddenly stopped while driving slowly, and you heard grinding and clanking metallic sounds when trying to accelerate. No warning lights appeared before the stall. Service Brakes →1 issue
Your parking brake unexpectedly engages while you're driving, which can cause the car to slow down or stop. This seems to happen around the same time your auto start/stop system has issues. The parking brake may need to be inspected for electrical or mechanical faults, or the auto start/stop system may need to be diagnosed and repaired.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your car has stalled and completely lost power after completing U-turns on multiple occasions, requiring jump-starts to restart. In another instance, your car hesitated during a U-turn and took about 2 miles of driving before it would accelerate normally again. This suggests an electrical or engine issue that may be triggered by the turning maneuver. A mechanic should diagnose the battery, alternator, and electrical connections to determine what's causing the power loss.

Suspension →1 issue
Your 2017 Jeep Compass is experiencing violent shaking while driving, but no warning lights appear on the dashboard. You took the vehicle to a dealer, but they were unable to diagnose or repair the problem. This issue started around 57,000 miles. Power Train →1 issue
Your steering wheel shakes and you smell a burning odor while driving, and your transmission isn't shifting properly. A mechanic found that your half-shaft (part of the drivetrain that connects the transmission to the wheels) is fractured and needs to be replaced. This is a serious issue that affects your car's ability to drive safely and will require replacing the damaged half-shaft.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your front passenger airbag's active headrest deployed while your vehicle was parked and not in an accident.
