Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles manufactured January 1, 2015, to May 11, 2015. During assembly, the power steering hose retention clamp may have been installed at an incorrect location, resulting in the detachment of the low pressure return hose.

Risk: If the power steering fluid return hose detaches, it would leak fluid and increase the risk of a fire.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the return power steering hose clamp, repositioning the clamp as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R68.

Your passenger seat headrest can suddenly break apart or explode while the vehicle is parked, even when no one is sitting in it. While this incident didn't cause injury, it poses a potential safety risk if it happens while someone is using the seat. Fixing this issue typically requires replacing the entire headrest assembly.

NHTSA #: 11678033

Filed: May 2025

Your driver's side headrest suddenly popped out while you were backing up, even though there was no crash or impact. The dealer found that the plastic bracket holding the headrest mechanism had broken, creating a safety concern. The repair would likely involve replacing the headrest assembly or the bracket mechanism that controls its deployment.

Your driver's side headrest suddenly broke apart while the vehicle was parked. This appears to be a known issue, but no recall has been issued yet to address it. The fix would likely involve replacing the defective headrest assembly with a corrected part.

Your passenger headrest suddenly popped off while you were driving due to internal plastic pieces breaking. You've found that this is a widespread issue affecting 2010-2017 Jeep Compasses, with a class action lawsuit filed in 2020. The dealership is charging over $500 for a replacement headrest assembly, which seems excessive given the known defect.

Your car is stopping while you're driving — the engine stays on but the wheels and brakes lock up, leaving you unable to move. This has happened multiple times over the past month or two, and while it hasn't occurred on the highway yet, you're concerned about what could happen at high speeds, especially with your children in the car. Mechanics have identified a fuel shutoff valve control problem (code P0007) and point to either a faulty fuse box or a defective ABS module as the cause. The fix will likely involve replacing the ABS module or repairing the fuse box, depending on which component is actually failing.

While turning left at a green light, your engine suddenly stopped and you lost power steering control, making the wheel difficult to turn. You were able to restart the engine, but this is a serious safety concern since other Compass owners have reported the same problem. A mechanic will need to diagnose why the engine is stalling unexpectedly and determine if the power steering system is failing when the engine shuts down.

criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Jan 2026

Your car experienced multiple warning lights and stalled in traffic, and a mechanic identified a failing alternator which you replaced. Since then, your car has become unreliable—it occasionally dies while driving with no warning lights, won't start sometimes despite having power, and the check engine light appears and disappears inconsistently. The stalling happens multiple times without warning and can take 30 minutes or more before the car will restart, creating a serious safety hazard in traffic. The issue may involve an electrical or sensor problem that needs diagnostic testing to identify the root cause.

Forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Sep 2025

Your car won't accelerate beyond 45 mph or rev above 3,000 RPM, making it unsafe to merge or maintain highway speeds in traffic. The ABS module has failed and is causing dashboard warning lights for ABS, transmission, and the engine to stay on, and your car has shut off unexpectedly while parked. A Jeep dealership confirmed the ABS module failure, but the replacement part is on backorder with an estimated arrival in October 2025. Fixing this will require replacing the ABS module once the part becomes available.

Power Train1 issue

Filed: Dec 2024

When your front tires lose traction on slippery surfaces like mud, snow, or ice, your engine loses power and neither front-wheel drive nor four-wheel drive engages. The 4x4 warning light on your dashboard flashes with an exclamation point, and the rear driveshaft doesn't engage. This leaves your vehicle unable to move in poor traction conditions, creating a safety hazard. The issue may involve the power transfer unit (PTU), which typically requires diagnosis and potential replacement or repair.

Filed: Aug 2024

Your Jeep Compass has multiple serious safety issues: the 4-wheel drive/parking brake keeps getting stuck in the ON position even after replacement, which increases fuel consumption and causes premature brake wear. A headrest exploded while you were driving on the highway and is now dangling from the seat. Additionally, the vehicle has intermittent electrical problems (sometimes starting, sometimes not) and the ignition key frequently gets stuck. These issues will likely require diagnosis and replacement of the parking brake actuator, headrest assembly, electrical system components, and ignition switch.

Your Jeep is stalling and shutting off completely while driving, happening daily without warning on highways, during turns, or normal driving. When this happens, you lose power steering and have to stop in the middle of the road, creating a dangerous situation. No warning lights appear on your dashboard and no error codes show up when scanned, making diagnosis difficult.

criticalVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
Filed: Apr 2024

Your 2015 Jeep Compass randomly stalls while driving and unexpectedly limits speed to 20 mph or below, making it difficult to accelerate normally. The problem occurs without warning, no dashboard warning lights appear, and the dealership has found no diagnostic codes despite multiple visits. Your car has become unsafe to drive due to unpredictable speed changes, including a recent incident where it suddenly accelerated while you were reversing. The issue may require comprehensive diagnostic testing by a technician who can monitor the vehicle's performance in real-world driving conditions to identify intermittent electrical or engine control system faults.

Filed: Jun 2023

Your car experienced multiple warning signs before a major failure: the 4WD light came on twice (which you reset), and the ABS light appeared briefly. Then your car completely stopped while driving on a boulevard in traffic. A technician found that the rear drive axles had become severely corroded and needed replacement, along with the backing plates. The fix will involve replacing the corroded rear axles and backing plates.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your car stalled while driving at 40 MPH and wouldn't restart normally—a jump start got it moving a few feet before it stalled again. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as a failed crankshaft position sensor (DTC: P0335), which tells your engine's computer when to fire the spark plugs. The sensor was replaced to fix the issue.

Your airbag warning light came on while driving at 25 MPH and has been turning on and off intermittently. You checked with your dealer about a recall, but your vehicle wasn't covered by one, so they didn't diagnose or repair the problem. The issue started appearing around 154,500 miles on your odometer.

Your vehicle is shutting off randomly while you're driving or stopped, but no warning lights appear on the dashboard and diagnostic scanners show no error codes. This unpredictable stalling could leave you stranded or create a safety hazard in traffic. The fix may involve diagnosing ignition system components, fuel delivery system, or engine control module programming to identify why the engine is losing power without triggering diagnostic codes.

Your check engine light came on, and the dealer found it was caused by a faulty gas cap and fixed it. However, after picking up your vehicle, the front passenger headrest suddenly deployed on its own while you were driving at 20-30 mph with no impact or accident. The dealer was aware of this but didn't diagnose or repair the problem. A proper diagnosis and repair of the headrest deployment issue will likely be needed.

Your check engine light came on while driving, and you noticed the engine wasn't responding quickly when you pressed the accelerator pedal at a stop. A diagnostic scan revealed trouble codes P0420 and P0430, which point to your catalytic converter. You took the vehicle to the dealer for a recall repair, but they refused to complete the work because your Jeep has a rebuilt title. The issue has not been fixed.
