NHTSA Campaign: 24V308000
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2024 Elantra, Venue, and Kona vehicles. An electrical short circuit may occur in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve assembly, which can result in a loss of drive power.
Risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the exhaust gas recirculation valve assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 28, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 260.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 48)
Unknown Or Other →4 issues
Your Elantra's horn has stopped working due to an intermittent contact problem in the horn pad switch or clockspring. The issue started intermittently but has now progressed to complete horn failure at 25,000 miles. Since your vehicle is under factory warranty, you'll need to take it to the dealership for repair. The fix will likely involve replacing or repairing the horn pad switch assembly or clockspring component.

Your horn stopped working at under 20,000 miles, leaving you unable to alert another driver who veered into your lane at 75 mph. The dealer confirmed the failure and mentioned it's a known issue affecting multiple vehicles, but no official recall appears to be listed online. Your car won't pass inspection without a working horn, and you'll need the horn assembly replaced.

Your horn has stopped working twice since 2025, and the dealership found that water is getting into the horn assembly and causing electrical shorts. The dealer told you this is a recurring problem but said repairs will be covered under warranty. You're concerned this is a safety issue that should trigger a recall rather than just warranty repairs.

You accidentally peeled part of the VIN sticker on your rear door jamb while cleaning your car's interior. This small paper sticker had no warning label or indication of its importance, but damaging it can affect your car's Certified Pre-Owned eligibility, trigger inspection flags, and require an expensive replacement process ($100–$300). The sticker should be better protected or replaced with a more durable identification method.

Lane Departure →3 issues
Your camera-based safety features (Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Assist) randomly display warning messages saying the camera is disabled, then the warnings disappear and everything returns to normal after a few minutes of driving. This has happened three times. Additionally, your dashboard and infotainment screen constantly dim and brighten throughout the day for no apparent reason—sometimes for just two seconds, sometimes longer—regardless of lighting conditions outside. The dealer has been unable to reproduce either issue or find any diagnostic errors. These problems may indicate a camera connection issue or electrical power management problem that will likely require diagnostic testing with specialized equipment or potential camera/wiring inspection and repair.

Your car's lane departure warning system is triggering false alerts on the dashboard saying "Consider Taking a Break" multiple times per month, even when you're driving normally within your lane. This warning is distracting and there's no option in the vehicle settings to disable it. The issue may be caused by a calibration problem with the lane detection camera or sensors that monitor road markings.

Your car's lane departure warning system flashes a 'consider taking a break' message on the screen even when you're not actually drifting out of your lane — sometimes just while you're adjusting the radio. This unexpected warning can distract you from driving and create an unsafe situation.

Steering,wheels,service Brakes →1 issue
Your car is vibrating significantly at highway speeds and when braking, making it hard to control. The rear brake pads have worn down to metal-on-metal at just 35,000 miles and are wearing unevenly, while the front pads are fine — even the dealership can't explain why. The dealership resurfaced the rotors once, but the problem came back, and you didn't get any warning before the brakes failed. Fixing this will likely require a thorough inspection of the rear brake system, including the brake calipers, pads, and rotors, to find out why the wear is so uneven.

Vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
While driving on the highway at 65 mph, your car suddenly lost speed and the check engine light came on. The car wouldn't accelerate and kept slowing down, forcing you to pull over safely. The issue may require engine diagnostics to identify why the car lost power, and potentially fuel system or engine component repairs.

Vehicle Speed Control,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your gas pedal stopped responding while you were accelerating to merge onto the freeway — it went all the way down without resistance and your car slowed down instead of speeding up, creating a safety risk. After restarting the car, the pedal worked normally again. No warning lights or messages appeared before or during the problem.

Service Brakes, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your car's adaptive cruise control is randomly slamming on the brakes hard — dropping your speed from 80 to 65 mph — even when there's no vehicle in front of you, regardless of lighting conditions or time of day. This has happened repeatedly over the past year and 34,000 miles with no warning lights, creating a serious collision risk if a vehicle is following closely behind you. The dealer and Hyundai have been unable to reproduce the issue, but you've found multiple online reports from other owners describing the same problem. Fixing this will likely require Hyundai to reprogram or replace the adaptive cruise control system and its forward collision sensors.

Exterior Lighting, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
While driving, all of your dashboard warning lights turn on at the same time and your power steering stops working. This happens intermittently while you're on the road. The issue appears to be related to your vehicle's electrical system and may require a full diagnostic scan to identify the root cause.

Wheels →1 issue
While driving at or below the speed limit, your front passenger tire suddenly blew out without any warning lights or alarms, causing you to lose control of the vehicle. The tire had been previously replaced by the dealership for a flat before you purchased the car. This resulted in a serious crash that damaged your vehicle, a nearby home, and caused injuries. The tire failure investigation may involve examining the tire itself, the wheel assembly, and checking for any manufacturing defects or installation issues.

Electrical System →1 issue
Your 2024 Hyundai Elantra hybrid is experiencing unexpected battery drain while parked, leaving the car completely dead on multiple occasions with less than 2,000 miles on it. You've noticed no accessories are left plugged in and the MyHyundai app doesn't warn you about the drain. Currently, you can temporarily restore power by unlocking the car with your physical key and pressing the 12V reset button, but this workaround won't last once the backup battery drains as well. The issue likely involves a parasitic electrical drain or a faulty battery management system that will need diagnostic testing and possible battery or electrical component replacement.

Electrical System,lane Departure,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your vehicle's amplifier, which controls all sound system functions including alerts for blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic warnings, and general audio, suddenly stopped working without any warning signs. This means you won't hear important safety alerts from these systems while driving. Your dealership is currently working on repairs, which will likely involve replacing or reprogramming the amplifier unit.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your brake light keeps going out while you're driving, though it comes back on when you restart the car. This has been happening repeatedly over the past two years, and you suspect it's related to faulty wiring. Since brake lights are critical for safety, the dealership should inspect the brake light wiring and connections to find and fix the loose or corroded connection.

Steering,power Train,vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your car becomes unstable and bouncy when you're driving it, with poor steering control and difficulty coasting smoothly. The car also experiences aggressive acceleration and braking that you can't control. You believe this issue is specific to your presence in the vehicle and may indicate a widespread safety problem that warrants professional investigation.

Electrical System,engine,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
When you release the gas pedal, your car continues to accelerate for about 2 seconds instead of slowing down immediately. This delay in response feels like the electronic throttle system isn't registering your input right away, which could force you to brake hard suddenly or risk being rear-ended by traffic behind you.

Engine →1 issue
Your oil drain plug fell out, which caused engine damage. The dealership is blaming Walmart (where you had your last oil change) and won't cover the repair under warranty, even though it's been 2 months and 12,000 miles since that service. You may need to pursue the claim with Walmart or your insurance, as the dealership is denying responsibility.

Steering,electrical System,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your horn stopped working after you reached 10,000 miles and hasn't worked since, even though you're now at 34,250 miles. You received a recall letter from Hyundai about potential issues with your car, though you don't have the paperwork anymore. A dealer visit didn't resolve the problem. Fixing this will likely involve diagnosing the horn circuit, which may include checking the horn relay, wiring, or the horn itself.
