2019 Honda Pilot Engine Problems

My engine has been diagnosed as having connecting rod bearing knock, which is indicative of failing connecting rod bearings. I'm submitting this complaint as further evidence for the NHTSA investigation that Honda's Honda Pilot Connecting Rod Bearing Safety Recall had an insufficient of covered vehicles.

A rod bearing in the engine failed and broke through the side of the engine block damaging the catalytic converter and causing oil to spray every where and the engine to seize and catch fire.

Auto start-stop feature is malfunctioning. It is terrifying. I have pulled up to high traffic, busy intersections and my car will idle into stop at the light.

Experiencing what I believe to be a low idle misfire around the 1200 to 2000 RPM’s. I don’t know whether this will lead to an engine failure at a crucial time in traffic. I have 50k miles and this has been reoccurring since 35k miles.

Our 2019 Pilot has experienced intermittent stalling at lights since 2019 and the incidents have occurred more frequently in the past few months (multiple times per week). It has been taken exclusively to the dealer since purchased and for years, they said they were unable to duplicate it.

There are 2 issues. First, the engine fails to restart when auto start/stop is engaged. This has happened at traffic lights/stop signs in traffic at least 15 times in the past 2 months.

Numerous restart issues when car in in idle mode stopped at a traffic light or stop sign. Approximately 6 times, my car has been stopped, in idle mode, and shifted into "neutral" & stalling. I'm required to place car into "park", turn on power, shift to drive in order to accelerate.

The auto start-stop system is not working properly. We have had several incidences when the idle-stop feature is on and we stop in traffic or at a stop sign or light and the engine will not start back up automatically. I have to go back through the whole process of restarting my car and there are times when it wouldn't start back up on the first try.

when auto engine idle is on after coming to a stop at a light or stop sign upon acceleration some times the car will stall and then an error message will come on the dash "Collision Mitigation Braking System error" this happens multiple times a week when driving I have taken to honda dealership and the blew me off saying they could not replicate the issue but I have come across many other people online with the same issue.

Engine knock occurs at low RPM’s while under load. Was informed by a Honda Dealership Service Advisor that this is a known issue with 2019+ Earth Dreams V6 engines, and they have had a number of owners report the problem. The Service Advisor also informed me that Honda told his dealership the issue is caused by a faulty main engine bearing however, to date, Honda has not taken any formal action.

While idling and driving into a parking garage, a new metallic knocking noise was audible from the engine. When I pulled up to the parking garage, I lowered my window to have the code scanned to enter the garage. The noise was present at that time, nothing previous to my commute to work this day.

The fuel Pump has been stalling and acting out since 2022 and received Recall "NHTSA Number: 23V-858 on February 2024. We call Tampa Honda at 813-935-8585 to schedule a recall repair. Tampa Honda informed us that they don't have parts to replace the Fuel Pump.

My vehicle is equipped with a feature that turns it off at brakes stops and restarts when the gas is pushed (example - at a stop sign). The vehicle was had a lower engine knock. When I took the vehicle in I was informed that there is an open recall for Honda Pilots for engine knocking and failure but my VIN number was not included. Because of the knocking I was informed that I needed to replace the engine.

At 144,500 miles, the connecting rod broke and destroyed the engine. The connecting rod broke while driving on the highway at highway speeds. Honda has confirmed the connecting rod was the cause and will need a new engine to get the vehicle working again.

Engine failure: one of the engine rods blew through the longblock and seized the engine while driving on the highway. The car is regularly serviced from the dealership, well maintained, has low mileage, and is relatively new (2019). There is no recalls for the car, but this seems related to the ongoing investigation with Honda and Acura cars that have had engine failures.

The Fuel Pump was issued a recall that I had replaced, but due to it not operating properly it caused my high pressure fuel pump in the engine to malfunction as well. This has been conveniently left out of the recall for fuel pump and the dealership wouldn't agree to look into it further.

Had veh fixed for fuel injection issues in 2023 paid 1500 repair complained to handa America and they paid it.. car was still under warranty.. Recall fuel injection in Feb 2025 after honda buena park fixed it had same hesitation issues between 30 50 MPH after just 2 weeks after repair.

vehicle needs a new engine has spun a bearing internally and sent metal throughout the motor has to be replaced This is a vehicle with 75,000 miles and loan just payed off. My son was driving car earlier and reported it lurching in the highway

The catalytic converter needed to be replaced due to faulty fuel injectors causing damage. This caused major surging in my vehicle, making it difficult to accelerate in a normal way and caused shaking in my vehicle.

we have been dealing with the engine going into limp mode for over two years. it has been to two different dealers with about $10,000 spent to replace parts that were on recalls but supposedly this VIN# was not part of the recalls even though its the same issue with the same parts being replaced!

Connecting rod bearing failure. Engine was making knocking noise noticeable under 2000 RPM. Engine could experience sudden loss of power if engine failed.

In October 23, 2023, The Honda Pilot Touring 2019 activated the alarm system alone. When I attempted to stop the alarm the unit did not stop and start blinking. It displayed the codes keyless start system problems and auto engine idle system problem.

Check engine light Code p219b “Check emissions system” Fuel injectors needed to be replaced at only 32,000 miles. Vehicle was out of standard factory warranty by 6 months but under 36k. Honda did replace them under the service bulletin.

My Idle-Stop system intermittently cuts off and wont restart - usually at the most dangerous times like when I am in a turning lane of a busy intersection. To me, this is a major hazard. This has happened on multiple occasions, so my practice right now is to turn it off as soon as I turn on the engine so I won't have this occur.

I have complained to the Honda dealer during each oil change that my engine shuts off when I am driving and come to a stop at intersections. I brought up that I had the car battery changed three times already due the suspicion that the battery was causing the issue. They tested the battery and found that it wasn't the problem.

My car is a 2019 pilot and with 105k miles, engine has the rod bearing knock problem currently being investigated by NHTSA.

2019 Pilot 3.5 liter V6 ~82000 miles has developed a nasty rod knock, failure is imminent. I am aware of the current probe that includes this year/make/model.

Honda Pilot 2019 idle stop system is defective. The engine's failure to automatically restart after shutting down poses significant safety risk. When at a red traffic light, the engine will turn off to save fuel.

On Feb 17th I was on a 4.5 hour trip. I wasn’t experiencing any issues with my vehicle until the last 20 min of the trip. I exited the highway to refill with gas before the final leg home.

Connecting rod bearing, engine is knocking. Honda TSB 24-001 doesn't include my VIN right now.

Stopped at a light and the auto start/stop system engaged and the cars engine turned off. Once the light turned green and took my foot off of the brake the engine did not automatically start. It would not start for about 30 seconds after trying to start it multiple time.

Pulled to stop. Engine Auto-Stop shut down the engine. When I released the brake pedal the car did not restart.

Brought vehicle to stop on a hill at a traffic light intersection. Auto Start/Stop activated, shutting engine off. When releasing the brake the vehicle did not restart.

Auto-stop failed to restart the engine when stepping off the brake pedal after it had engaged while stopping for a traffic light. Although the car never had an issue with auto-start, the auto-start recall was applied at the same time as the hood latch recall.

Emissions System Problem

This 2019 Honda Pilot Elite has an Engine Auto Shut Off that engages when stopped at traffic lights, stopped traffic, etc. It can be turned off manually each time after starting the car ignition but when it is not - it will engage in these stopped positions. Recently, the Auto Shut Off has been engaging and the vehicle will completely shut off and go into Neutral.

When driving and coming to a stop the idle - stop engages but when the brake is released the engine does not restart. The vehicle dies and has to be completely shut off and restarted. The vehicle start button has to be pressed 2 or 3 times before it finally restarts.

Engine will not restart after idle stop engaged. Vehicle must be put in park, shut off, and turned back on for engine to restart.

When stopped at an intersection, the auto engine idle stop activated in my vehicle. When I let off the brake pedal, the engine of the vehicle did not start back up. Alerts on my dash came up instructing me to place the vehicle in park and restart the vehicle.

When the auto engine idle kicks in more and more often the car struggles to restart. A message quickly flashes about a malfunction but too quickly to read it. I disable the feature very often as I fear the car will not restart.

Car does not restart after auto stop at intersections or traffic lights.

The engine turned off at an intersection with the start/stop feature, also called the auto idle stop system, and did not restart. Jumper cables were needed to restart the vehicle. Safety concern - This issue put my family's safety at risk while being out of the vehicle at a very busy intersection at dusk when visibility was decreasing.

The air conditioning went out. The condenser to replace has been discontinued by almost every parts seller. Took the car to Honda and they are not sure what the problem is so they want to rebuild the entire air conditioning system.
