2019 Honda Odyssey Transmission Problems

Your 2019 Honda Odyssey's transmission has experienced hesitation and delayed acceleration since you first owned it, which has gotten worse over time. The transmission in my 2019 Honda Odyssey failed prematurely at approximately 102,800 miles, requiring a full transmission repair/replacement. Prior to failure, the vehicle exhibited known warning symptoms including harsh and erratic shifting, hesitation, delayed engagement, and loss of smooth acceleration. These symptoms progressively worsened and ultimately resulted in unsafe drivability.

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious and recurring safety issue with my Honda Odyssey involving the camera system. Multiple warning messages and fault codes appeared on the dashboard simultaneously, including: -Collision Mitigation System Problem -Adaptive Cruise Control Problem -Lane Keep Assist Problem -Auto High Beam Problem These systems are all disabled.

Transmission stops producing power and has delayed acceleration. Almost caused an accident and possibly fatalities.

since 2023 around august I felt lose of power while driving but I thought its because of the gasoline I used so I didnt care much , thereafter this loss of power problem persisted since then so I took to the dealership at battison honda at nortwest expressway in oklahoma , but they said my vehicle has no issue , but this loss of power issue was not resolved but on 1st week of february I was about to crash on road due to loss of power so took the vehicle to dealership and they said it was due to the trasmission issue and I replaced it as it passed the 5 year powertrain warranty dealership said I have to pay it full , I fight with them for 2 weeks atlast they said I have to pay 5000 dollar .

While driving at 25-30 MPH, all of a sudden the 2 warning signs came up: “transmission system problem” AND “blind spot info system problem.” The “D” in the dashboard started blinking. When I put the vehicle in park at a stop light, the “P” also blinked. After a couple of minutes of this I pulled over and turned the car off.

Step on accelerator and no acceleration, hesitation and have to push farther down on accelerator. Sometimes that works other time I have to let of accelerator and push again to go. Nearly cause accident multiple times.

Prior to this recall, we had noticed an acceleration issue with the car. One day, during our travels, we encountered a severe stall, which could have been a dangerous event. Just as we were grappling with this situation, news of a recall reached us, but unfortunately, the fuel pump required for the fix was unavailable.

Vehicle will "neutral out" on acceleration and make a whizzing noise. This occurs every time we drive this vehicle. It loses a great deal of power when this happens and feels like it is never going to regain speed.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly.

The vehicle's transmission has been continously shifting erratically, where shift intervals do not correspond with engine speed and or vehicle speed. The pattern is so erratic that the transmission causes a very strong jolting or surging motion and loud thudding sound. I have checked on fluid level and found the level within required standards.

I was driving my vehicle, slowing down to turn left, when my car shifted into neutral all by itself. The satellite radio went off and the collision warning appeared on the dash. This could have happened on the highway and I could be dead.

This is for the 9 speed transmission. Frequent erratic shifting first and/or possibly second gears. Engine revolutions increase and then gear engages with lurch or tire sqweek.

driving at slow speeds through a neighborhood (20-25mph), my car seemed like it tried to change gears and it downshifted and lurched us forward. it was as if I slammed on the brakes almost causing us to get rear ended. this lurching has happened many times and is now an unavoidable event.

Has known, but unresolved, 9-speed transmission problem. Occasionally, unexpectedly on take-off engine revs up before engaging first gear resulting in tire squeal and leap forward. This could, and probably will, result in a collision with car in front at stop signs for I.e.!!!!

On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype.

Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it.

While driving, if I don't make a complete stop (say at a yield sign), and I accelerate, there is a 1-2 second gap between when I press the pedal and the van actually goes. This can happen while fully stopped, while yielding, or even while getting onto the highway. Taking it back to the dealer has yielded only firmware upgrades to the software and recommending a $400 transmission flush.

Our 2019 Honda Odyssey transmission failed while driving my kids in early 2020. The minivan was towed to Grappone Honda in Concord, NH and the transmission was replaced. The new transmission now jerks and stutters particularly at low speeds (20-40 MPH).

While in motion on the highway the speedometer and center infotainment system crashed, went black, and began to restart shortly after. While rebooting the car shifted into neutral and there was no warning of the gear changing. The car was able to get off the highway, and had to be towed per the dealers recommendation for safety.

(event 1 and 2 happened 10 minutes apart) our new van shifts in the park while driving at highway speeds (62 MPH). We took it to freeway honda the first time and they were unable to render any errors, so the vehicle was returned to us. (event 3) occurred on 12/16/2018 around 11:42 am.

The vehicle experienced a sudden internal transmission failure (power train). While driving, the vehicle began making grinding noises during acceleration and lost propulsion. The vehicle then displayed multiple warning indicators, including a transmission warning and a blinking electric parking brake indicator.

When trying to accelerate from slow/ stopped, the car struggles to get into gear. I have on numerous occasions been merging or getting onto another road from a stop sign and the vehicle will start to go just slightly and then stall before suddenly jumping into gear.

we were driving on the freeway when the car it stalled and place itself in neutral. we were unable to put it in park or drive.

Auto stop start feature caused car to stall at a traffic light. Could didn’t not restart when brake pedal was released. Car did not restart until door was opened and key was cycled several times.

Shortly after owning we started noticing sporadic jerks between 24-29 MPH that felt like a hard up shift. We immediately brought to our local Honda dealership where they performed a software update. We were told that the vehicle struggles to shift while under load.

The vehicle has been occasionally stalling starting early 2024, maybe sooner. I had the fuel pump recall done recently. The vehicle is still stalling, and it seems to be getting worse.

Over the course of the 38 months that we have owned the vehicle, random transmission slippage has been present on this 2019 Odyssey. I mentioned the slippage to the service advisors at the dealership when taking the vehicle in for oil changes. The technician was “not able to replicate the problem.” The slippage was always a safety concern.

While driving down the interstate going between 55-60 MPH van began to downshift and RPM’s started rising but gas pedal didn’t accelerate. Then the next day I got stranded on a highway because the van locked into neutral before I could pull into a parking lot because of traffic, then it finally went into park(we were trying to get it back in drive obviously).

Sudden Loss of Acceleration/Unpredictable Acceleration: Pressed accelerator to enter highway from rolling stop going around 10-20mph. ZF 9-Speed transmission hesitated, attempted to downshift & vehicle suddenly lost transmission & possibly went into neutral and/or transmission failed on highway.

The transmission slips or doesn't engage appropriately. The van lurches forward at intersections and slips, pauses with a loud clunking noise at lower gears when driving in town. This morning, I attempted to cross a double highway...pressed the accelerator, nothing happened, then the vehicle lurched forward, stopped again, then lurched forward again all with the accelerator pressed down.

The car failed to start several times, and then it fell out of drive completely while I was driving down the street with my child in the car. Fortunately I was only on side streets where the speed limit was low because the car just stopped working about five times in one city block. I hate to think what would have happened if I was on a highway at higher speeds.

I have had my 2019 Honda Odyssey in for transmission problems on 3 occasions. The first two times were because of rough shifting with clunking and jerking when upshifting. The mechanic drove with me and after several upshifts with jerking and clunking did, finally, admit that it was rough upshifting.

My van regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution.

When the vehicle is parked, the head unit malfunctions and stays on, especially after being used for apple car play. It has left us stranded and had to be towed once, two other times, jumped as a brand new vehicle. More importantly, the transmission has issues.

Driving down the highway the vehicle started shifting weird coasted to a stop the vehicle. The vehicle displayed an error transmisson problem apply parking brake when stopped. The car also displayed errors related to the blind spot monitoring and emissions system.

My 2019 Honda Odyssey is currently diagnosed with a connecting rod bearing failure, which matches the safety defect in NHTSA Recall 23V-751. While my VIN is excluded, I am reporting this as part of the NHTSA Investigation PE25-008. For several months leading up to the failure, I noticed a faint, repetitive knocking sound coming from under the hood.

Vehicle intermittently loses propulsion during acceleration when merging. Engine RPM remains low despite throttle input. After a delay, transmission re-engages abruptly with a metallic scraping noise.

Improper seal on the seam (?) above let water leak into my power tailgate control module. It caused all the dash lights to sporadically rapidly flash, told me I have a transmission problem and my blind spot warning didn’t work right. Pulled out the tailgate module to find water in the module with a failed circuit board.

Hello - On [XXX], while travelling to visit family for the Christmas Holiday, a warning about a transmission system error came on. We pulled over, check fluids, looked the vehicle over, added approved coolant which appeared a little low. When we started our van, all the lights were off, and we were able to reach our destination without incident.

On 10/4/2025, I was driving with my family on a single lane road around 7:30pm. The van automatically went into neutral "N" gear and there was a message displayed on the dashboard saying it is not safe to drive and asking me to pull over when it is safe to do so. Pressing the gas pedal didn't do anything.

The powertrain jumps sometimes it is not smooth.The brakes does not hold too good.

Intermittent hesitation to accelerate.

The lkas and several other lights are on in the vehicle and no one has been able to provide any answers as to why. Nor can the problem be fixed. There is also a problem with the transmission.

Vehicle jerks at about 25mph when it’s idled in 1-2rpm. Sometime at acceleration and won’t move up RPM. Vehicle got fuel injectors and transmission fluid replaced and still have issues.

We have had issues with the transmission multiple times. After coming to a stop, rolling forward, and then pressing the accelerator the vehicle hesitates and won't immediately move forward. It will suddenly engage, often squealing the tires and jerk into forward motion.

Dash warning lights for engine code P2019 associated with the fuel injectors come on and off intermittently. Honda has said my injectors are not under recall despite other 2019 odysseys having been recalled for this same issue. Transmission has expired hesitation in shift moving from a complete stop and acceleration.

sorry, I should make the complaint earlier since I just know I can submit it here. I have a 2019 honda odyssey EX-L since 2019 but I only have 22K miles. Starting from 2023, the VIN could not pick up speed when we pushed the oil paddle; the transmission got stuck and the van could not be speed up when it was needed in highway.

Does not accelerate on the highway/freeway. Took it to dealer shop, several times over the years. First 2-3 years, they say they did not find any issues.

Currently own a honda odyssey 2019. The transmission is unstable at times. From a speed of 25-30mph, it performs hard shifts I think from the 3rd gear.

- Step on accelerator and no acceleration, - When at stop then gas there is hesitation with extra slow accelerator. - Shifting from 1st to 2nd there a jerking and hard shift which something cause loud noise. - Reported multiply times to dealer and indicated its normal (Replace purge valve) no help.

The transmission on this van has acceleration issues. When trying to accelerate the van will on occasion have hesitation of a few seconds. This has left me in situations when merging where I have almost been hit.

Honda Odyssey 2019 slips during highway speed and has no acceleration while the engines RPM goes up. Very dangerous at highway speed and then will have a large clank noise and go into gear. Honda doesn't acknowledge the issue with their 9 speed transmission but their are tons of complaints on the web with the same issue I have.

Driving on highway suddenly multiple warnings ️ lights on (about 10) warnings lights like check engine, transmission system, power steering system brake assist ,holding brake system, line departure assistance, hill assistance, emission system, ACC system, VAS system, blind spot assistance and lack of power hitting gas (Accelerate pedal) no response car slow down by itself becomes 20mph on 55mph highway very scary this happened four times in one month.

The van had 75k miles and would lose propulsion on the highway with no warning and no dash light coming on. van would slow way down causing other drivers to hard brake behind us, Then finally go back into gear and drive like nothing happened, couple days later the same thing would happen. We took it to Honda and said the transmission will need to be replaced.

Rear lift gate ceased operating, unlocking or opening. Later received errors on dash for blind spot malfunction and transmission error. Dealer says it is an issue with water leaking into the rear chassis getting into the exposed electronics.

The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its ZF 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an EX-L with the ZF 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.

I purchased my 19' Odyssey in March, almost two months ago. It was used with only 19k miles. During the test drive I mentioned to the sales guy (sitting in passenger seat) a strange noise that sounded like fluttering, but only when accelerating 1k-1500k RPM.

Highway driving straight on level ground at 70mph. Hit gas to change lanes and van slowed to 55mph before it picked up speed again. 1300 miles later on same trip driving 60 MPH up a small incline hit gas and van slowed down to 45mph before it picked up speed again.

Transmission is slow to get into first gear. There is a noticeable and significant delay when going from a complete stop and pressing the gas to go quickly. This occurs more frequently before the engine warms up.

Experienced issues when trying to accelerate from a stop, merging into traffic, driving uphill and changing gears at low speeds.

Between the speeds of 24 - 27 MPH there is a quick jolt that seems like the car is shifting. The jolt is repeatable. We have found several online forums where others are complaining.

Transmission shifts erratic. When going from reverse to drive the transmission delays engagement to 1st gear. This behavior causes a clunk to 1st gear and sometimes rapid acceleration when it does engage and the gas pedal is depressed.

2/5/2020 I was traveling at highway speeds with moderate traffic, when the main display screen in my minivan started flashing error messages. The radio display screen was acting wacky also. The van started making a loud rapid 'click.click.click." type noise.

Vehicle has 3500 miles and became disabled and displayed transmission error on the dash. Unable to drive. Third is the second 2019 odyssey with transmission issues the first had to have transmission replaced at 300 miles.

This is a serious safety issue. When driving the vehicle, the transmission has an issue where it can launch the vehicle into traffic. More specifically, after a complete stop at a stop sign or traffic light, when the throttle pedal is depressed to initiate forward motion, the transmission hesitates, then engages, causing the vehicle to launch into traffic.

Have a 2019 honda odyssey that is experiencing hard shifting into 3rd gear. It has less than 4k miles on it and whenever it reaches 25 it jerks the car quite noticeably. Brought it into the dealer and they acknowledged there was a "sound" when it shifted into third gear but couldn't replicate the "hard shift" that I've noticed.

While driving on a ramp and slowing down, the transmission switched itself from drive to neutral while making a loud noise. This happened only once on 09/04/2019 after riding to the shoulder, turned off engine and restarted the minivan and was able to ride again normally

The vehicle down shifts to a lower speed during travel. It occurred while driving 45 miles/hr, at 70 miles/hr and when the vehicle is on cruise. First time it happened I thought the transmission broke.

My main issue has to do with downshifting. Since these new vans have no emergency brake pedal to use if all braking fails, I became very concerned when I noticed that the 9-speed revs the motor up going down hill while downshifting. This is to such a level that the vehicle cannot engine brake itself.

Our 2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L was our primary family vehicle. We conducted all routine maintenance as required by Honda, including transmission fluid exchange. Our vehicle experienced rough shifting consistently and at 102,000 miles experienced a total failure in the transmission dog clutch, with Emissions lighting also being present.

While Driving Pressing on the gas pedal I got a minute of no acceleration, it felt like the van stopped on me, and then I start pressing on the gas pedal harder but nothing happens and then it shoots forward like a jet, this happened a few times, very dangerous, could have got hit from behind from oncoming traffic behind me since the van just slowed down so much, then shooting forward was also scary.

Vehicle was driving normally down the highway then proceeded to shutdown without warning. Suddenly all of the trouble Lights appeared indicatinging engine, transmission, hill assist etc cut on without warning. The van would not drive above 55 MPH when turned back on.

Ever since we bought the car, the car has hesitated when we step on the gas pedal. It will then jerk forward, which makes it difficult to merge into traffic. There is a safety concern as it is unpredictable about when it will happen and when the car will start to go.

Delayed transmission engagement when accelerating from a stopped position. When the accelerator is depressed the transmission hesitates and does not shift for a few seconds. This is very unsafe when trying accelerate into traffic or cross roads.

Transmission slipping randomly due to software issues

When switching gear in low speed, car often jerk . Car also jerk when switching from reverse to drive froward gear.

No acceleration on freeway/highway

Vehicle has hard shifting up and down. Loud clank when up shifting or down shifting at random times.

Transmission went out at 120,000 miles.

When car stops and Am I go to accelerate. is dead and won't respond. 3 seconds for it to accelerate.

Delay or rough shifting betwee 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Sudden deccelerations Sudden loss of power twice happened on the free while accelerating.

Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating.

When stopping or yielding at an intersection or pulling out into traffic, the car will have a dead gas pedal, and the car will not accelerate. Three seconds later, the car will accelerate abruptly creating a hazardous situation.

Vehicle shifts hard in low gears creating a safety risk

Minivan's transmission seems to lurch/skip while driving at lower speeds. Did it twice in a matter of seconds.

Jolt or hard shift on 9 speed transmission when shifting in low gear. Honda said this was caused by the smart transmission software trying to match driving patterns. Resets reduced the problem but they soon came back - unknown if this causes long term issues with transmission.

Iwas driving about 10 MPH coming out of a parking garage when the vehicle suddenly shifted itself into park and came to an abrupt stop. Myself as well as my passengers where thrown forward by the suddenness of the stop. If this had happened on the highway or in heavy traffic it could have been catastrophic.

Vehicle is prohibited from shifting transmission out of park when engine is not running. If vehicle engine shuts off and will not re-start and vehicle is in unsafe location (I.e. In a roadway), the push-button transmission prohibits shifting the car to neutral in order to push it out of the roadway or to load on a flatbed tow truck.
