POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles. Loose battery terminal connections or a degraded battery may cause the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to unexpectedly reboot. Upon rebooting, the TCU may shift the transmission to the "Park" position, possibly damaging the parking rod.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will ensure the battery terminal connections are secure and will update the TCU software, free of charge. Additionally, the parking rod effectiveness will be checked. The recall began May 31, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are Z4J, Y4K.

The transmission in my 2019 Honda Odyssey failed prematurely at approximately 102,800 miles, requiring a full transmission repair/replacement. since 2023 around august I felt lose of power while driving but I thought its because of the gasoline I used so I didnt care much , thereafter this loss of power problem persisted since then so I took to the dealership at battison honda at nortwest expressway in oklahoma , but they said my vehicle has no issue , but this loss of power issue was not resolved but on 1st week of february I was about to crash on road due to loss of power so took the vehicle to dealership and they said it was due to the trasmission issue and I replaced it as it passed the 5 year powertrain warranty dealership said I have to pay it full , I fight with them for 2 weeks atlast they said I have to pay 5000 dollar .

While driving at 25-30 MPH, all of a sudden the 2 warning signs came up: “transmission system problem” AND “blind spot info system problem.” The “D” in the dashboard started blinking. When I put the vehicle in park at a stop light, the “P” also blinked. After a couple of minutes of this I pulled over and turned the car off.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly.

On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype.

Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it.

While driving, if I don't make a complete stop (say at a yield sign), and I accelerate, there is a 1-2 second gap between when I press the pedal and the van actually goes. This can happen while fully stopped, while yielding, or even while getting onto the highway. Taking it back to the dealer has yielded only firmware upgrades to the software and recommending a $400 transmission flush.

The technician was “not able to replicate the problem.” The slippage was always a safety concern.

While driving down the interstate going between 55-60 MPH van began to downshift and RPM’s started rising but gas pedal didn’t accelerate. Then the next day I got stranded on a highway because the van locked into neutral before I could pull into a parking lot because of traffic, then it finally went into park(we were trying to get it back in drive obviously).

My 2019 Honda Odyssey is currently diagnosed with a connecting rod bearing failure, which matches the safety defect in NHTSA Recall 23V-751. While my VIN is excluded, I am reporting this as part of the NHTSA Investigation PE25-008. Hello - On [XXX], while travelling to visit family for the Christmas Holiday, a warning about a transmission system error came on. We pulled over, check fluids, looked the vehicle over, added approved coolant which appeared a little low. When we started our van, all the lights were off, and we were able to reach our destination without incident.

On 10/4/2025, I was driving with my family on a single lane road around 7:30pm. We have had issues with the transmission multiple times. After coming to a stop, rolling forward, and then pressing the accelerator the vehicle hesitates and won't immediately move forward. It will suddenly engage, often squealing the tires and jerk into forward motion.

Dash warning lights for engine code P2019 associated with the fuel injectors come on and off intermittently. Honda has said my injectors are not under recall despite other 2019 odysseys having been recalled for this same issue. sorry, I should make the complaint earlier since I just know I can submit it here. I have a 2019 honda odyssey EX-L since 2019 but I only have 22K miles. Starting from 2023, the VIN could not pick up speed when we pushed the oil paddle; the transmission got stuck and the van could not be speed up when it was needed in highway.

The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its ZF 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an EX-L with the ZF 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.

I purchased my 19' Odyssey in March, almost two months ago. It was used with only 19k miles. During the test drive I mentioned to the sales guy (sitting in passenger seat) a strange noise that sounded like fluttering, but only when accelerating 1k-1500k RPM.

The Honda Darcars in Bowie, MD has stated they will not look at the van and they can't diagnosis the problem without the system error being displayed on the van when it is brought in for service.

Highway driving straight on level ground at 70mph. Hit gas to change lanes and van slowed to 55mph before it picked up speed again. 1300 miles later on same trip driving 60 MPH up a small incline hit gas and van slowed down to 45mph before it picked up speed again.

My main issue has to do with downshifting. Since these new vans have no emergency brake pedal to use if all braking fails, I became very concerned when I noticed that the 9-speed revs the motor up going down hill while downshifting. This is to such a level that the vehicle cannot engine brake itself.

Iwas driving about 10 MPH coming out of a parking garage when the vehicle suddenly shifted itself into park and came to an abrupt stop.
