2019 Honda Odyssey Engine Problems

While driving, the check engine light appeared and the vehicle began running rough and hesitating during acceleration. The engine experienced a noticeable loss of power, which created a dangerous situation in traffic and nearly caused an accident when attempting to accelerate with surrounding vehicles. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealership for diagnosis.

On November 27, 2025, my 2019 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure while traveling at highway speed. The vehicle had been serviced at an authorized Honda dealership the previous day (oil change and tire rotation), and the failure occurred approximately 55 miles after that service.

We bought this van new and twice since owning it-once in 2019 at 5,418 miles and this month (November 2025) at 136,947 miles-we have been driving down the interstate with a van full of people, when without any previous warning, suddenly multiple warning lights come on all at once (the check engine light, the transmission light, the vehicle stability assist light, among others-what I have been told in LIMP mode) and the van becomes difficult to drive.

Traveling from appointment to home, vehicle started to rattle from engine, could not accelerate and shut off in the middle of the roadway. We couldn’t start the engine and “emission system failure “ message appeared for the first time. Prior to the event, we did not have any issues with starting, operating the vehicle and no warning lights on the dash.

I was traveling approximately 65 MPH on Interstate 75 Southbound near Cincinnati, Ohio with the flow of traffic. Cruise control was not being used at this time. I felt a sudden loss of acceleration and heard a shrieking sound.

Nothing has happened yet, but I have been unable to get the connecting rod bearings inspected per the Honda safety recall notice. I contacted the Honda dealer in January of 2025 to have the bearings inspected, as well as to have the fuel pump replaced (also under recall). I wanted them both done at the same time.

My 2019 odyssey has occasionally stalled while at lights. We had received the safety recall in the mail months ago. Though it states they currently have NO FIX for this dangerous issue and that you have an increased risk of crash or injury.

Engine made a clicking sound, I complained about it for nearly 10 months to dealership and other mechanics until I forced a mechanic to drive around with me. They first found metal shavings in my oil pan, found that rod bearings 2/6 are fully scorched and it now needs a new engine. Engine stopped twice on the road similar to eco mode, but wouldn’t turn back on the same way.

The engine starts to stall. It’s scary. It slows down to 0 and when you step on the gas it doesn’t want to go.

My Idle Stop feature on the car has become very unreliable. After the car enters the stop state, waking up the car has the following difficulties: Almost regularly, the start up process causes the car's audio and electrical to glitch and will put a warning on the dashboard that the collision mitigation system has been engaged.

The fix may involve diagnosing the fuel delivery system, spark plugs, or engine control computer.

"Emissions system problem" engine warning light has been on for quite some time. I know there is a service bulletin related to this issue, but my VIN is not covered. There are also several other warning lights that occasionally pop up, and my Honda dealer believes these are all related to the initial warning light.

We were out side. My engine wouldn’t start and fuel pump and battery lights lit up on desk board. I asked for help and was able to jumpstart the car- I started driving with my kids in car seats and on freeway 7-8 minutes after starting car it went to Neutral while driving its own.

Frequently the engine will stall on restart after idle stop system cuts the engine off at a light. Occasionally the stall will lead to a full reboot of the control system taking up to 3 minutes to allow a restart of the engine.

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious engine failure on my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which experienced a rod bearing failure that has rendered the vehicle inoperable. This failure occurred despite the vehicle being properly maintained and driven under normal conditions.

My 2019 Honda Odyssey has only 63,545 miles on it. The vehicle recently began making strange "rattling" sounds from inside the engine block when driving. I took the car into the dealership (Honda of Oakland) and learned from the technician that the rod bearings and/or connector rods are damaged.

This echos many of the existing complaints with the transmission already filed. When pulling away from a stop, the car will lag, then suddenly engage the wheels causing the car to jump forward. Some times there is a slight wheel spin etc.

I'm filing a complaint regarding unrepaired recall 23V-858 on my Honda Odyssey 2019 [XXX] . I' have been informed about it in December 2023 and kept trying scheduling a recall fix with Honda dealer for almost 6 months with no success. They are not able to do it because they don't have the required parts or something.

Received the letter for the recall. Noticed that the vehicle does occasionally hesitate during acceleration (sometimes at lights at intersections which is super dangerous) I have have multiple people who don't know about the recall asked me what's wrong with my car, why is it hesitating. Called 2 separate Honda dealerships total of 4 times to see if I can get the resolved.

Car hesitates upon acceleration passing through approximately 2000 RPM. Does not duplicate every time. Dealer will not replace high pressure fuel pump.

Around November 2023 I took my 2019 Honda Odyssey to Glockner Honda in Portsmouth, Ohio about an issue with the engine. I was told by Andy Schmidt and his Honda-certified technicians that the problem is the same as the one that is coming out for a recall in January 2024. I parked my Odyssey until January and took it back to Glockner Honda expecting it to be a part of the recall.

My check engine light came on along with an "Emissions System Problem" error around 68,000 miles. Upon checking out the car, my local Honda dealer found error code P219-B which indicates that the fuel injectors need to be replaced. The dealership stated that this is a known issue with multiple Honda TSB service bulletins regarding regarding problem.

When I came to a stop at a red light, my auto engine idle engaged. When I tried to go by pressing on the gas, the engine would not turn on. The lights flickered and I had to wait a couple minutes to restart the car.

Engine is making rattling sounds and heavy fuel smell for the past 6 months. I gave a video of the loud knocking my car is making. It also has a 10-45 second delay when pushing the gas pedal and actually accelerating.

Delay in acceleration. It is an intermittent issue. Noise when gear is changed.

Auto Engine Idle Stop function does not restart engine after stopping engine. This situation happens regularly. This causes a dangerous situation when the car does not restart when driving I n traffic.

Twice reported transmission issues to dealer. They suggested changing transmission fluid, so we did. Issue did not resolve.

The vehicle hesitates. It chokes so badly that it is a danger to drive. I do not know if this is a result of the new transmission type or a problem with the engine.

While driving 25-35 MPH there is a hard shift to the next gear. It jerks you forward in your seat. There is also an issue while the heat/air fan is on it continuously cuts out.

2019 honda ex-l has exhibited a knocking noise from idle to around 2000 RPM under load since new. The vehicle currently has 10,000 miles and has been to 3 separate honda dealerships a total of 7 times. Honda can replicate the engine knock, but has refused to take the actions necessary to diagnose the cause.

2019 honda odyssey ex-l purchased new in september 2019. At approximately 7,000 miles of use, developed noticeable metallic rattle and associated engine knock-like noise. Dealership of purchase was notified and vehicle was brought into service.

While driving at low speed in the process of shifting between 3 and 4th gear van shifts very hard . So much so that at times my body is thrusted forward which causes me to momentarily lose sight of road. While shifting it seems to vehicle seems lunge at higher speed.

I am getting a failing fuel injector that is not covered in Hondas openTSB. I am unsure how it was determined that only VIN are covered when it is the same engine for all 18 &19s. Honda is denying work but reporting because many others are having same problem and not covered on an odyssey forum.

This vehicle is horrible and should be bought back by Honda. They knowingly put this bad engine in the 2018-2019 year models for the Odyssey. The transmission grinds.

Car shut down for idle stop when I let foot off break the car did not start back up. Car died and I needed to restart car.

Vehicule does not respond when push the gas pedal. There is a delay on the vehicule respond after push the gas. Creating false idea of not pushing the gas enough.

No remedy provided in a timely manner

Basically, when starting from a stop - either dead stop or coasting stop, but after applying the brake, when you start gently pressing the accelerator, nothing happens for an inordinate amount of time. Likely only a second, but feels much longer when you're trying to make a left or right hand turn in front of oncoming traffic.

Car has under 7000 miles. Engine struggles with power in lower gears. There is also a jump when shifting from reverse to forward.
