2018 Honda Odyssey Body & Structure Problems

I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding a dangerous manufacturing defect in my 2018 Honda Odyssey EX . A structural failure of the factory roof seam sealer (ditch molding) is allowing rainwater to pour directly into the vehicle's cabin, severely compromising critical electrical modules and creating major safety hazards.

The sliding doors will not open at intermittent times. Warnings will flash off and on about door error but not consistently. If there is an incident or an emergency, the door will not open.

There is water leaking in the body which damages the power tailgate control module located at the rear driver side. the tailgate doesn’t open and endanger people inside in case there is any accident.

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan had water leaks intruding and collecting into the power tailgate control module on the driver-side rear compartment causing the tailgate to become nonfunctional and not lock properly or open/close appropriately leading to a major safety issue where the tailgate may open or even not close during movement of the vehicle leading to significant risk to passengers with respect to accident or bodily injury.

Dear NHTSA Team, My Honda Odyssey 2018 EX has been having issues with my Driver side Sliding door opening/closing using the Auto power. It was randomly sometimes not fully closing (kept reopening). Then it would get fixed automatically .

***2018 honda odyssey caught fire while operational**** on 24th april 2019, on her way to drop our kid to school, my wife was driving our 2018 honda odyssey. All of a sudden, this vehicle got smoke at first and then caught fire while it was operational. My wife pulled over and took the kid out immediately.

Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. This exposes a large area of electrical wires. A driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring.

Passenger sliding door stuck in open position as the latch has broken. Door will not closed into position. I tried to close using manual and automatic door closing options to no avail.

I was driving our 2018 honda odyssey elite on highway and the sunroof glass exploded. We only have 2500 miles on the car.the honda dealer of bellevue wa are trying to make us pay because they didn't find anything wrong with the sunroof. We will make a complain with honda of america.

This Honda Odysse 2018 model has leak water on rear corner . You have to find out where is leaking and fix it , if you don't fix water leak after you install new control unit it will happen again . To find out where is leaking is a major problem.

Power lift gate and power sliding doors failure alerts keeping showing up. They flash on and off on the display even while driving which can be very disruptive. The issue occurs randomly every few weeks The dealer quoted close to $2000 to attempt to fix it

A problem with the frame of the van in the rear/above the liftgate not being properly welded created leaking/malfunction of the liftgate and water remediation needed under the headliner. A significant safety issue was created-causing unprovoked opening and closing of the liftgate during operation of the vehicle both while parked and moving.

The passenger side sliding door was generally having issues with latching fully closed. But even after managing to get the sliding door fully closed, the rear passenger sliding door partially opened up by itself whilst going over a speed bump. It seems to be very dangerous for a sliding door to even partially open itself while the vehicle is driving and in motion.

Safety Recall #18-128, Power sliding door rear latches was performed on or around September of 2020 on my vehicle. Last week (04/30/2025), my passenger side sliding door would not open. After removing passemger side inner door panel to inspect, found rear latch cable frayed closest to a microswitch found (as of 05/04/2025, it is currently held together by 2 strands of the cable).

Leakage through the top driver's side pinch weld near the rear of the vehicle has allowed water to infiltrate the power tailgate control module and render it sporadically operable. This has affected the vehicle main computer, causing unreliable operation of powered vehicle exit doors.

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey has continued to experience power sliding door issues that were initially addressed by NHTSA campaign numbers 18V795 and 20V437000. Our vehicle underwent the recommended repairs in both campaigns. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and the problem was reproduced by a dealer.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on several occasions when the vehicle was started while driving at various speeds, the contact observed a pinging alarm, and the “Driver’s Side Sliding Door Failure” message was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that the door was heavy while being opened.

I'm constantly having issues with my right sliding door on my 2018 Honda Odyssey, opening after it's been closed and I'm constantly getting beeping alerts on my dash saying problems with right sliding door while I'm driving. It's been happening for a while now. Fortunately, the door hasn't opened while I'm driving on the road yet, although it did occur once while I was backing out of my driveway.

Power Tailgate is not functioning and the trunk opens on its own. Yes, available for inspection. The trunk opening on its own puts the safety of everyone in the car at risk.

The rear lift gate is not opening. The lift gate motor and latch have been replaced. The lift gate module seems to have water/moisture after a rain storm causing the gate to not open.

Power tailgate problem. Middle both passenger side door did not latch. Power tailgate cannot open automatically.

Power lift gate and power sliding minivan door do not work leak in body caused electrical short and corroson of liftgate power control unit. Bad design safety issue. Danger of child entrapment.

Both of my passenger sliding doors failed, resulting in both of them opening while driving with my children in the back seats. In August 2022, my driver side passenger door swung wide open while I was driving the car, with the error on the dashboard showing door open. Took the car to Honda Dealership, who stated that the door latch failed and replaced the door latch.

The sliding doors do not work properly when the windows are down. When the windows are up and you open the door you hear a clicking noise locking the door in place. If the windows are down when opening the doors they do not “click” and the door can slide closed.

After having the odyssey repaired for the recall rear passenger door latches, the rear passenger door still continues to open randomly, it has happened on multiple occasions while the vehicle is parked (at a park) with no one near the vehicle, at least twice since the repair while the vehicle is going between the speeds of 35-45 MPH the rear passenger door on the driver side slides open.

Driver and Passenger Sliding Doors have issues closing sometimes. It would close ranging from 70% to 90% of the way, and then slide back open. This happens occasionally enough to not have confidence in the doors consistently closing.

This is regarding the sliding door recall that happened a few months ago. Honda replaced it via recall.

Since late last year, my 2018 odyssey had been having some issues with the sliding door. Sometimes it doesn't close till I hit the button multiple times so finally, I took it to the dealership. They told me my cess harness is kinked and would cost me $485 for replacing it.

My driver side sliding door won't close all the way and keeps reopening when I am in park position. It has been looked at multiple time and recalls have been done but still does it every day. Because it doesn't do it all the time the dealership doesn't want to fix it.

Metal bar on the side slide back causing can't close tail gate or hard to open. Honda doesn't know what cause it. I am not sure whether it has to do with sliding door recall that it not latch (which already fixed) or slide door push this side metal bar back when open.

Sudden 'pop' noise was heard as coming to a stop on exit ramp of highway. Found out that the sunroof glass was brocken in pieces. Took it to dealer and they determined that something must have hit it without looking at the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda odyssey. While the vehicle was parked, the contact was removing items from the vehicle with the passenger sliding door open. The sliding door would inadvertently close, causing the contact to become pinned between the sliding door and the door frame.

I have found the power sliding door open when I returned to my parked van. This has happened about 4 times. I have taken my van for recall 18v-795 which has to do with the power sliding door components, but I found my side sliding door open again even after the recall fix.

Purchased vehicle towards the end of the month of february 2018, thirty days later the driver front door would not open from the outside. Tried unlocking the door from the key fob and door remained locked. Inserted the key in the cylinder and was a bit hard to turn the cylinder to unlock.

Sliding doors do no close at times. It is inconsistent and when taken to the dealer they cannot replicate. There are numerous complaints online as well as videos of the issue.

Driver's side sliding door won't close.the issue actually presented itself the day we purchase it and they service department called it a "hiccup". When trying to close the door, the sensor beeps three times and then reopens. I have to disengage the doors to manually close it or be ready to "help" the door continue on the track to closing.

Customer states intermittently right side sliding door does not close properly, sliding door ajar light comes on while driving, right side sliding door will not close using automatically, having to manually/forcefully push door close, has happened twice dealer ship did not do anything as they are not able to duplicate the issue.

Both of the manual passengers back doors will not fully close and lock.

The rear tailgate stopped working. Upon investigation, there is structural issue with the body. There are holes near rear tailgate which allows to water to pass through.

After weathering hurricane Milton, the rear liftgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey will not open. No apparent damage was done to the vehicle, however after starting the van, the dash stated there is a power liftgate issue. This warning was not present before.

Part of the interior frame under the dashboard disintegrated. This was discovered while Honda was fixing a different recall involving electrical components.

On the way home, the rear door controller was damaged and the rear door opened by itself. So I pull the car to the side of the high way and tried to close the rear but couldn't. I drove my car to my home with the rear door open.

Water intrusion on the driver side rear panel has caused the power tailgate command module to short out twice now.

Power rear sliding door will not close properly.

The driver side sliding door will open automatically but will not close. Gives me 3 beeps and doesnt attempt to close. I unplugged the pinch sensor and checked to see if that was the problem but the pinch sensor works as its supposed to.

Passenger sliding doors will freeze in process of closing. Must manually disengage power feature and reset door to fully close. Door will be anywhere from 80% to 95% closed when it fails.

The rear tailgate shocks have weakned up with vehicle just having 32500 miles. When you open rear automatic tailgate the tailgate opens completely and starts to slowly lower down while unloading belongings. When you suddenly looking back the tailgate will be half way down and can hit over head.

While vehicle is stationary, after closing the rear door. The door latch will not always hold the rear door in a fully closed condition, causing a door open warning condition. It may take several attempts to forcefully slam the rear door closed before it locks correctly.

The electrical sliding door is opening on its own at night. I was not sure if this was recalled on this vehicle. I could not find it.

When automatic sliding door open/close is enabled the door will open, but will not close. When the doors are placed in manual mode, the door panel comes loose from the force of the door closing making it so the door cannot be opened because the loose door panel extends out just far enough to wedge itself like a door stop.

Both rear doors become stuck and completely inoperable. The power door mechanism has failed and now the door is completely stuck in the closed position. There is no way to manually open the door from the inside or the outside.

Vehicle was parked off street in freezing cold overnight, upper twenties, 32f when this happened. Vehicle is parked not in motion, remote started. Driver door would get locked immediately when unlocked from outside, multiple tries to pull the door handle would unlock and lock immediately and eventually open the door.

Automatic door on the passenger side closes as passenger tries to get out of the van. Door bounces back and forth and almost injured the passenger. On a separate occasion, the same passenger side door was being opened from the outside and halfway after it opened it bounced and closed almost injuring my son and the preschool teacher.

Both driver and passenger side rear sliding doors often fail to close using the electric closing system. This is dangerous if not noticed because the doors are not latched. This happens while the vehicle is stationary.

The sliding rear door on the passenger side does not fully latch, thus the door remains slightly ajar. It remains as such while vehicle is in motion.

The passengers side sliding door would not open automatically. The open/close button on the dash would not open the door either. The key fob wouldn't open it.

The sliding door can't be physically close after it was open, the vehicle can't continue to drive to a destination with the open door if kids inside, and the door can't be closed even manually.

The right back sliding doors does not close when the close button is pressed. I have to put the car on manual operation to drag the door shut. Even then, it is not completely shut the "open door " alarm goes off for up to 10 miles and then eventually the door shuts completely .
