NHTSA Campaign: 14E049000

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC (Delphi) is recalling certain replacement fuel pump modules, part number FG1155-11B1, sold for use in 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The affected fuel pump may send an incorrect fuel reading to the fuel gauge possibly causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The fuel gauge will always read 3/4 full to full regardless of the actual level.

Risk: A vehicle that runs out of fuel and stalls has an increased risk of a crash.

Fix: Delphi has begun notifying dealers and distributors, and will replace the fuel pump modules, free of charge. Owners may contact Delphi customer service at 1-877-411-8770. Delphi's number for this recall is GL14-004.

NHTSA Campaign: 14V112000

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured June 23, 2004, through September 4, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the fuel pump strainer cover may deteriorate allowing fuel to leak out.

Risk: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.

Fix: Parts to permanently repair the affected vehicles are not currently available. Honda will notify owners with an interim letter during May 2014. A second notice was mailed to owners October 6, 2014 when the remedy became available. Any vehicles that are currently leaking from the fuel pump cover will get a replacement, original cover. All vehicles, including those receiving the interim repair, will get an improved cover when they are available. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. The recall numbers associated with this campaign are JD9 (inspection and/or preliminary part replacement) and JE0 (final parts replacement).

FireFiled: Nov 2022

Your engine caught fire without warning about 10 minutes after you parked your van. The alarm sounded first, and as soon as you disarmed it, the entire engine became engulfed in flames. The vehicle was well-maintained with no warning lights, so there were no signs of a problem beforehand. You'll need a professional fire investigation and engine inspection to determine what caused the fire.

Your engine is misfiring, which causes the car to slow down noticeably when climbing hills or running the air conditioner. This problem could potentially worsen while driving and create a safety hazard.

Your engine stalled while driving at speeds over 70 mph, and multiple warning lights appeared on your dashboard including the Check Engine light, Vehicle Stability Assist warning, and tire pressure warning. The Drive indicator light was also flashing. This happened at around 150,000 miles and hasn't been diagnosed or repaired. The engine stalling at highway speeds could indicate a fuel system problem, ignition issue, or sensor malfunction that needs professional diagnosis.

Your 2009 Honda Odyssey is consuming excessive engine oil and showing check engine and low oil pressure warning lights while driving at various speeds. You've also noticed abnormal vibration when idling. A Honda dealership diagnosed the issue as worn engine rings that need replacement, but the repair wasn't completed because your warranty had expired. Fixing this will likely require engine ring replacement, which is a major internal engine repair.

Both power sliding doors on your 2009 Honda Odyssey are not working properly. The driver's side door opened but won't close without manual force, and the passenger side won't open at all. Additionally, the doors won't operate manually, forcing passengers to climb through the back to enter the vehicle, which creates a safety concern. This issue may require replacement or repair of the sliding door motor, latch mechanism, or electronic control system.

Your car's dashboard clock and navigation screen clock are displaying incorrect times and cannot be adjusted properly. The navigation clock repeatedly resets to around 7:17 PM when you restart the car, while the dashboard clock shows the wrong date (January 1, 2002). When you try to adjust either clock, the system acts erratically and jumps back to the original incorrect time. The issue appears to be related to the vehicle's navigation system software rather than a GPS problem.

Your sliding doors aren't working properly—the passenger side won't close completely, and the driver's side won't latch or stay latched, with the driver's door opening unexpectedly while driving. The Honda dealer found worn bushings on the passenger side, a faulty latch on the driver's side, and a popped-out cable on the passenger side door handle. Fixing this will likely require replacing the driver's side latch assembly and the passenger side rollers and latch components.

Your sliding doors have repeatedly failed to close properly, with the passenger door opening while you were driving on the freeway. Even after dealership repairs, both sliding doors have continued to malfunction a total of 6 times, and now your driver-side sliding door is having the same problem again — it beeps while driving and won't close whether the car is moving or parked. This will likely require replacing or repairing the sliding door latch mechanism and electronic door sensors.

Your 2009 Honda Odyssey has a Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system that shuts down three cylinders when the engine warms up to save fuel—you'll see "ECO" on your dashboard when this happens. This system causes abnormal wear on those cylinders, leading to high oil consumption, fouled spark plugs, misfiring, and rough running. You may experience loss of power, engine sputtering, and warning lights, making the vehicle difficult to drive safely. A complete engine repair can cost over $4,200, and Honda has declined to fix the problem or disable the VCM system to prevent future damage.

Your transmission isn't shifting smoothly between gears while driving, particularly when going from 3rd to 4th gear. You may also hear a loud thump or clunk noise when shifting from Park to Drive. This suggests your transmission may need service, fluid replacement, or internal repairs to restore proper gear engagement.

Your car vibrates noticeably when driving between 30-40 mph. This vibration is commonly caused by the axles on 2006-2009 Honda Odyssey models and may develop into a safety concern over time if not addressed.

After installing aftermarket front lower control arms, you may notice the grease fitting (zerk) on the ball joint makes hard contact with the inside of your wheel, causing damage. This could potentially lead to wheel damage while driving, which might affect vehicle control. The issue appears to be a design conflict between the aftermarket part and your vehicle's wheel fitment, and may require either modifying the grease fitting, using a different control arm design, or adjusting wheel fitment.

Your windshield wipers, key fob, sliding doors, and turn signal lights stopped working all at the same time—first in December 2023 and again in January 2024. The problem happened without warning while you were driving, and during the second occurrence it was raining, making it unsafe because you couldn't see and your lights weren't working. This issue may require diagnosis of the electrical system, potentially involving a faulty relay, fuse, or body control module that controls multiple systems.

The bolt that holds your drive belt tensioner has broken twice while driving — once in May 2022 and again in January 2023. When this happens, you lose steering power, electrical power, and engine cooling, which is a serious safety issue. The original repair was done by a Honda dealer, but the problem recurred within 8 months. The fix will likely involve replacing the tensioner bolt with a higher-quality part or investigating why the bolt keeps failing.

Your van's check engine light came on shortly after purchase due to a faulty catalytic converter, but the dealership turned it off without fixing the underlying problem. Within days, the serpentine belt broke, and when the dealership repaired it, they only used temporary adhesive (JB Weld) on a broken bolt in the tensioner instead of replacing the bolt properly — causing the belt to fail again a week later. The vehicle is now undrivable and will cost $800+ to repair correctly, and you've also discovered the van was in a previous wreck that wasn't disclosed when you bought it.
