SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ODYSSEY AND ACURA RL VEHICLES. BRAKE FLUID CONTAINING POLYMERS IS USED THAT ACTS AS A LUBRICANT FOR CERTAIN BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. IF REPLACEMENT BRAKE FLUID IS USED THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN SUCH POLYMERS, OR THAT CONTAINS ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS, A PART OF THE RUBBER SEAL LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER MAY BECOME DRY, AND THE SEAL MAY CURL DURING MOVEMENT OF THE PISTON. IF THIS OCCURS, A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID COULD SLOWLY LEAK FROM THE SEAL INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently reversed while shifting gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with transmission failure. The mechanic replaced the transmission however, the Antilock Brake System (ABS) failed and the brakes locked up. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic. The mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
THIS IS A CAR I JUST PURCHASED FROM OWNER, MY REPORT IS THE SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. HAVING JUST PUT ON NEW PADS, IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY CHANGE IN THE PEDAL AS IT WOULD WITH MOST CARS? IS THERE ANY RECALL ON THIS CAR FOR BRAKES. I READ WHERE MANY OTHER OWNED HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES HESITATED TO RESPOND AND FAILED TO FULLY ENGAGE INTERMITTENTLY WHEN DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V504000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE BRAKES ACTED AS A TERM STATED SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THE VEHICLE IN A SHORTER DISTANCE THAN THEY ACTUALLY DID. FROM A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH IT TOOK ABOUT 150 FT TO STOP AND IT STILL REQUIRED HITTING THE CAR INFRONT OF ME TO STOP AT ABOUT 5 MPH. I FELT THE ABS KICK IN BUT FOR PUSHING THE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD THE WHEELS DID NOT EVEN SQUEAL OR CHIRP. IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS JUST COMING TO A SLOW STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VSA SENSOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MORE THAN TWICE. THE CODE WAS CLEARED BY THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESET THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE, THE VSA SENSOR WAS STILL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER A THIRD TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V504000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ENTERING A DRIVE WAY, THE BRAKES FAILED AND NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HAND, ARM, NECK, AND SHOULDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134,448.
EVERY YEAR, WITHIN 12 MONTHS/12,000 MILES, OUR 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY EX EXPERIENCES THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT BRAKES. THE PROBLEM BEGINS WITH A MILD SIDE TO SIDE SHAKING OF THE FRONT END WHILE BRAKING, TYPICALLY WORSE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THIS SHAKING CAN BE FELT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE VEHICLE CABIN, INCLUDING BY ALL SEATED PASSENGERS. IF LEFT UNRESOLVED FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME, THE SHAKING CONTINUES TO INTENSIFY THE LONGER YOU WAIT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THE INTENSITY OF THIS ISSUE LITERALLY CAUSES US TO AVOID BRAKING IN ORDER TO AVOID EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR THIS PROBLEM WE ARE TOLD THAT THE FRONT ROTORS HAVE WARPED, AND WE WILL NEED TO REPLACE BOTH THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THIS IS AN UNREALISTIC TIME FRAME FOR CONSUMERS TO HAVE TO ABSORB SUCH A SUBSTANTIAL COST RELATED TO THE SAFETY OF A VEHICLE. THE REASON I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE IS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A YEARLY ONGOING SAFETY ISSUE FOR US, AND IN DOING SOME CONSUMER COMPARISON I AM FINDING THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN EXPERIENCING IT. NEARLY EVERY ODYSSEY OWNER I SPEAK WITH CONFIRMS THE SAME ISSUE. ALL OF US ARE BEING TOLD BY HONDA THAT "IT MUST BE THE WAY YOU DRIVE". MY LOCAL MECHANIC RECENTLY ADDED THAT HE DISCOVERED THAT HONDA IS NO LONGER OFFERING ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE OVER THESE PARTICULAR PARTS - IN HIS OPINION AN ADMISSION THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THEIR VEHICLES IN THAT AREA. PLEASE REQUIRE HONDA TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY OF THESE VEHICLES BY SOLVING WHATEVER INADEQUATE DESIGN OR PRODUCT IS CAUSING THE FRONT BRAKES TO EXPERIENCE SUCH FREQUENT AND DRAMATIC FAILURES. VSA LIGHT TURNED ON AT START-UP AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. DEALER TEST RETURNED AN ERROR CODE ON THE VSA MODULATOR REQUIRING A $1300 REPLACEMENT. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY USED AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER AND HAD THEM DO AN INSPECTION AND COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS LOW. (NOTED IN MY WORK ORDER). THEY TOLD ME THE REAR BRAKES WERE THE CAUSE AND NEEDED REPLACING. I AGREED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND TO CHECK FOR ANYTHING ELSE IT MAY NEED.MY VEHICLE PASSED THE NYS INSPECTION. AS SOON AS I ENTERED THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER I NOTICED THE PEDAL HAD NOT IMPROVED. I WENT BACK IN TO COMPLAIN AND THE MANAGER STATED THAT THE LOW PEDAL WAS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES IN MY LIFE AND WHEN THE PEDAL GOES FURTHER DOWN THAN THE GAS PEDAL AND ALMOST TOUCHES THE FLOOR WITH NEW BRAKES INSTALLED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. WHEN STOPPED THE PEDAL WILL TRAVEL ALMOST TWO MORE INCHES BEFORE GETTING "HARD". I KNOW HONDA HAS SOME KIND OF BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE BUT I CANT SEEN TO FIND IT. THE VEHICLE TAKES LONGER TO STOP AND THE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND SPONGY. IM CONCERNED THAT I WILL REAR END SOMEONE BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE NOT SAFE. *TR
ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE ABS MODULATOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
BOUGHT VEHICLE USED & NOTICED A SOFT PEDAL FROM THE GO! SAW WHERE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REBUILT & FRONT PADS PUT ON BEFORE MY PURCHASE. TOOK TO HONDA TO GET SERVICED ON 7/18/2012 AT 118,647 MILES & TOLD THEM IT STILL FELT A LITTLE SOFT WITH THE PEDAL GOING LOWER THAN NORMAL. THEY CHECKED IT OUT IN SERVICE & PUT NEW ROTORS & PADS ON THE REAR. WE TOOK IT ON A TRIP TO FLORIDA & THE BRAKES FELT GOOD. SEEMS BETTER NOW HOWEVER IT'S BEGINNING TO FEEL A LITTLE SOFT AGAIN BUT APPEARS TO BE BRAKING OK. I TOLD [XXX] IN SERVICE AT HONDA & I TOLD HIM I WILL KEEP AN EYE ON IT TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE ONCOMING MILES. HE SAID OK. THANKS! 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE VSA MODULATOR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VSA LIGHT ILLUMINATED AT START-UP AND IT NEVER WENT OUT. *JB
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 3 CHILDREN AND APPROACHED A STOP SIGN. I PRESSED MY BRAKES, AND THEY COMPLETELY FROZE. I COULD NOT PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN. IT WAS LIKE STEPPING ON A BRICK. IT WOULD NOT MOVE DOWN AT ALL. I WAS SLAMMING MY FOOT DOWN ON THE PETAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS GOING SLOW AT THE TIME, AFTER SLAMMING THE BRAKES NUMEROUS TIMES, THE PEDAL SEEMED TO RAISE A BIT AND I WAS ABLE TO PUSH IT DOWN. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 5 DIFFERENT TIMES. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP THE SAME DAY IT INITIALLY HAPPENED AND THEY COULD NOT RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES AND TOOK IT TO OUR HONDA DEALER. (BURNS HONDA), THEY SAID IT FELL INTO A RECALL AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. TWO WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME THERE WERE TWO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MY CAR IS BACK AT THE HONDA DEALER WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO ONCE AGAIN "RE-CREATE" THE PROBLEM. I FEEL MY CAR IS A DEATH TRAP. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO GET IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT AND HURT MYSELF, MY FAMILY OR SOMEONE ELSE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I AM NOT SURE WHERE TO GO FOR HELP. 2006 ODYSSEY HAS WARPED BRAKE ROTORS, BUT THE ORIGINAL BRAKE PADS ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP; THIS IS "VERY NORMAL" FOR ODYSSEY EVEN FOR 1 OR 2 YEAR OLD VAN. MY ROTORS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY ARE WARPED, NOT DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR (BECOMING TOO THIN). THIS IS MORE LIKE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT PARTS THAN NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM. *JS
I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A HONDA ODYSSEY 2006 EX-L, I HAVE RELIGIOUSLY MAINTAINED IT AND HAVE USED HONDA FILTERS, OILS AND LUBRICANTS, HAVE DONE OIL CHANGES EVERY 7,500 PER HONDA MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND REPLACED TRANNY FLUID EVERY 15,000 MILES, ESPECIALLY AFTER KNOWING THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH PREVIOUS ODYSSEY'S AND CURRENT ONES. AT 52,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT (KNOWN ISSUE THAT HONDA WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE) THANKFULLY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED IT. AT 90,700 (MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 85,200 MILES) MY TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING A WHINING NOISE (I HAVE HAD 2 INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AND A HONDA DEALERSHIP VERIFY THE TRANNY IS GOING SOUTH). IN ADDITION TO THE MOTOR MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION ISSUES, THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD RECALLS TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE PADS, BRAKE MASTER "O" RING, POWER STEERING PUMP AND PAINT PEELING. FOR A $33K VEHICLE, IT SURE IS A LEMON. *TR

THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR SHORTLY AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.

2006 ODYSSEY WITH 55,000 MI WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR POWER BRAKE MODULE REPLACEMENT RECALL CAMPAIGN. WHEN VEHICLE WAS RETURNED, BRAKES WERE MUSHY AND SOFT. ADDITIONAL STOPPING DISTANCE WAS REQUIRED TO STOP VAN SAFELY. DANGEROUS BRAKING CONDITION EXISTED. CAN NOT BELIEVE DEALER RETURNED VEHICLE IN THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION! WHEN VAN WAS RETURNED TO DEALER THEY SAID VAN HAD BEEN ROAD TESTED PRIOR TO CUSTOMER PICK UP AND THAT IT WAS FINE THEN. NOT POSSIBLE! NO SERVICE TECHNICIAN WOULD RELEASE A VEHICLE IN THAT DANGEROUS CONDITION IF IT HAD BEEN ROAD TESTED. DEALER CORRECTED CONDITION BY BLEEDING BRAKE LINES AT NO COST TO OWNER. *TR
2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH BRAKES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. IT WOULD CONTINUE TO TRAVEL. THERE WAS ALSO A NOISE PRESENT WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. ALSO, THE CD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. *JB

CONSUMER STATES HE NOTICED BRAKES MADE NOISE EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WENT TO A SLOW STOP AND RUBBING/GROANING WHEN BRAKING DOWNHILL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AFTER THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY REPLACED THE PADS AND MACHINED THE ROTORS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE DEALER ONLY LOOKED ON THE INSIDE OF TIRES AND DIDN'T REMOVE THE TIRES TO LOOK MORE IN DEPTH TO CHECK THE BRAKES. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE BRAKES WERE RUBBING THE ROTORS, SO HE REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND POLISHED THE ROTORS. *JB

THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED TWICE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 10V504000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE BATTERY WAS DEFECTIVE, AND THE REAR LICENSE PLATE LIGHT FAILED TO FUNCTION. WHEN SHE ENGAGED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED ON THE FRONT END. SHE DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF HER VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SHE REFERENCED RECALL 10V504000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER AND STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO HER FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR REPAIRS OF THE MASTER CYLINDER (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V504000 COMPONENT: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER) AND STATED THAT THE REPAIRS SHOULD INCLUDE REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER BRAKE PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 78,000.

THE HONDA MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE RECALL ONLY APPLIED TO THE 2007 AND 2008 MODELS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM CHECK FOR PROBLEM ON OCT 16, 2008.THEY FOUND SMALL AIR POCKET IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND BLEED THE SYSTEM BUT STILL LITTLE LOW. ON NOV 9, 2009, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A 15,000 MILES SERVICES AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE LOW BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. THEY EVEN FLUSH THE BRAKING SYSTEM TWICE AND STILL FOUND PEDAL SLIGHTLY LOW. THE EASIEST WAY TO MAKE THE BRAKES TO GRIND IS TO PERFORM THREE OR FOUR SUCCESSIVE STOPS, LIGHT, HARD, MED, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING POWER WHEN DRIVING DOWN SLOPE. DRIVING DOWN SLOPE, THE BRAKES SQUEAL (METAL GRINDING OVER METAL). THIS INCIDENT OCCURS WHEN DRIVING LONGER THAN 15 MINUTES DOWNHILL WITH CONSTANT APPLICATION OF BRAKES. SHIFTED THE GEAR TO THE LOWEST, AND YET THERE IS NO BRAKING POWER. LAST OCT 2009, DURING SERVICE CHECK THEY SAID THE ROTOR BRAKE IS CRACKED/WARPED AGAIN AND WE NEED TO REPLACE IT AND THEY CANNOT COVER I HAD TO PAY. I USED THE VAN FOR WORK ( 8 MILES ONE -WAY). I COMPLAINED TO HONDA DCH OXNARD AND TOLD THEM THAT THE ROTOR BRAKE AND PADS WAS JUST REPLACED IN MID 2007 AND HOW A VAN THAT IS JUST USED FOR WORK COULD HAVE ITS ROTOR BRAKES FAIL IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS. THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR ACCIDENT. PRIOR THE INCIDENT THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY. AFTER THE INCIDENT THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY. IT HAPPENED ONCE ON 1/13/10 AND ONCE IN NOVEMBER 2009. IT HAPPENED DURING TYPICAL RURAL DRIVING, ~35MPH 2-LANE ROADS. THE HONDA DEALER INSPECTED THE BRAKES, ROAD TESTED THE CAR AND PRONOUNCED EVERYTHING WAS OK ON 1/14/10. THEY MADE NO REPAIR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 45-65 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT WARPED ROTORS CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AS OF NOVEMBER 20, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

PURCHASED 2006 ODYSSEY TOURING EDITION NEW IN FEBRUARY 2006. AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES STARTED HEARING INTERMITTENT GRINDING NOISE AND FEELING STEERING WHEEL VIBRATE WHILE BRAKING. VEHICLE TAKEN TO HONDA DEALERS THREE TIMES. FIRST TWO TIMES DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AT 30,472 MILES. AND THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH WARPED ROTORS, AND THAT I COULD PAY TO HAVE THEM MACHINED SMOOTH. TOOK CAR TO DIFFERENT DEALER AT 33,691 MILES. THEY REPLACED FRONT PADS AND MACHINED ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO SERVICE BULLETIN BEING ISSUED FOR BRAKE NOISE. *AK

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE REAR BRAKE LOCKED UP AND MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING AND BACKING PLATE WERE WORN. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REPAIR AND ALSO REPLACED THE REAR DISC BRAKES AND REAR SHOES. APPROXIMATELY SEVEN DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS, BACKING PLATE, SHOES, AND SPRINGS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE ON THE DAY SHE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SKID TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO A HIGHWAY SIGN. THE ABS AND ABI LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE CRASH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT AVAILABLE. 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD THIRD BRAKE FAILURE. PREVIOUS TWO TIMES I DIDN'T KNOW IF MY FOOT HAD SLIPPED OFF OF BRAKE SLIGHTLY OR IF IT WAS IN FACT A BRAKE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE ASSOCIATED WITH BRAKING, AND THE VAN HAD AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES AND PUSH IT HARD TO GET ANY BRAKING AT ALL. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN A BUSY STREET AND WAS VERY SCARED THAT I COULDN'T STOP. ALL THREE OF THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING SLOW- MAYBE 10 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS EVEN THOUGH THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THESE ITEMS SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH BRAKING. I'M NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND AM SCARED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *NM
I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE OWNER THAT SUBMITTED ODI CASE #:10169618 (SEE BELOW), OUR 2006 ODYSSEY IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW JUST BECAUSE IT HAS FINALLY GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT MY WIFE NOW NOTICES IT AND CAN PIN POINT WHERE SHE BELIEVES IT IS COMING FROM. HONDA DEALERS RECOMMEND AT 15K AS PART OF THEIR MINOR SERVICE CALIBER LUBRICATION. IF THIS IS SUCH AN ISSUE WITH THE CALIPERS WHY DON'T THEY INCLUDE THIS AS A WARRANTY CHECKUP FOR THE BRAKE PADS, INSTEAD THEY DECIDE TO CHARGE US FOR THEIR LABOR. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AS DESCRIBED BELOW HAS HAPPENED AROUND 8 DIFFERENT TIMES OVER A SPAN OF 4 MONTHS. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 17K ON IT. THESE NOISES ARE NOT SO PROMINENT WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED MILDLY (AS IN THE CASE OF COASTING TO A STOP), BUT ARE CLEARLY HEARD INSIDE THE CABIN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED A LITTLE MORE FIRMLY (AS ONE WOULD DO IT TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A HALT QUICKLY). I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT. LATER IN THE DAY I WAS INFORMED THAT AND THE FRONT BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE ROTORS REFINISHED DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE FRONT BRAKE PADS. I HAVE A REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MORE CASES OF THIS HAPPENING AND I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST NHTSA TO LOOK INTO WHETHER THIS IS A MORE PREVALENT PROBLEM THAN JUST A RANDOM INCIDENT. *NM
