MY BRAKES WILL BE STUCK (I COULD NOT APPLY THE BRAKE) WHEN I SUDDENLY PRESS DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDLY. I HAD THIS ISSUE WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. I HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE TO HONDA ONCE I DID ONLINE SURVEY. TODAY, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN CAR ACCIDENT BECAUSE I COULD NOT APPLY BRAKE. I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IN THE STREET. THE BRAKE WORKS FINE AFTER THE ACCIDENT IF I PRESS THE PEDAL SLOWLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SCARY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED EVERY 3,300 MILES. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,435.
I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO REPLACE THE FRONT AND REAR NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE.
I BOUGHT MY HONDA CIVIC BRAND NEW IN 2010 AND I HAD TO CHANGE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES THREE TIMES ALREADY, AND NOW I NEED TO CHANGE MY FRONT DISC AND BRAKES AGAIN! I ALSO HAVE MACHINE TURNED THE ROTORS ONCE AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS BECAUSE RECENTLY ON HIGHWAY DRIVING, WHEN I NEED TO USE MY BRAKES, THE CAR WOBBLES AND SHAKES. I WAS TOLD BY AN AUTO MECHANIC THAT IT'S MY FRONT ROTORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER 58,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING! MY SON HAS A 2009 HONDA CIVIC AND HE ONLY HAD TO CHANGE HIS BRAKES ONCE SINCE BUYING THE CAR NEW!! I UNDERSTAND THERE'S LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2010 CIVIC'S BRAKES AND THIS HAS TO BE A RECALL THAT HONDA NEED TO ADDRESS! I DO NOT HAVE A JOB AND THIS IS COSTING ME UNNESSESARY EXPENSE THAT I CAN'T AFFORD!
LIKE I KEEP READING...I'VE HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKES ON MY CIVIC MULTIPLE TIMES TOO. THIS IS MY FIRST HONDA, BUT I HAVE HAD VW, TOYOTA/SCION AND I NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS WITH MY BRAKES, SO I KNOW IT IS NOT DUE TO MY DRIVING ABILITIES. IF I KNEW ABOUT THE ADDITIONAL BRAKE EXPENSE THAT I WOULD INCUR, I WOULD HAVE NOT PURCHASED A HONDA PRODUCT.
SINCE PURCHASING MY CIVIC IN 2013, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES TWICE, ONCE IN JANUARY, 2014 AND AGAIN IN FEBRUARY 2016. THE BRAKES BEGAN GRINDING AND SLOWLY STOPPED WORKING OVER A VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC VERY MUCH, MOSTLY HIGHWAY TRAVEL AND SO TWICE IN 3 YEARS IS AT LEAST ONCE TOO MUCH AND IF YOU FIGURE THAT IS IT ONLY 6 YEARS OLD, EVEN TWICE IS TOO MANY.
AS MENTIONED BY OTHER OWNERS, I HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKES IN -25000 MILES WHERE AS A FORMER HONDA ACCORD OWNER, I REPLACED THE BRAKES EVERY -55-60K. THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF THE 2010 BRAKE SYSTEM IS VERY UNSAFE ESPECIALLY SINCE I TOOK THE CAR -25000 MILES TO THE WESTMINSTER HONDA WORLD AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN CATCH IT! MOREOVER NOT EVEN WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD!
I HAVE HAD MANY AUTOMOBILES OVER MY ALMOST 60 YEARS OF DRIVING. I DO NOT REMEMBER HAVING BRAKES REPLACED AT LESS THEN 35,000 MILES OF USE, & HAVE GONE AS MUCH AS 60,000 BEFORE NEEDING REPLACEMENT. MY CURRENT HONDA CIVIC 2010 NOW NEEDS BRAKES AT 16, 000 MILES SOMETHING IS RADICALLY WRONG WITH MY CAR AS MANUFACTURED TO MAKE THIS EARLY REPLACEMENT NECESSARY.
BRAKES NEED TO CHANGED AROUND 10 K MILES EACH TIME. DEALERSHIP SAID THERE IS NO ISSUE ON THE BRAKES AND COULDN'T TELL ME WHY I NEED TOO CHANGE IT SO OFTEN. PER OTHER CIVIC USERS, THERE MAY BE SOMETHING THAT MADE THE BRAKE WEAR SO QUICKLY. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE BRAKES SO WEAR QUICKLY. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE RECALL.
THE BREAKS WERE CHANGED IN THE FRONT AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES AND THE CAR NOW HAS 65,000. A DAY AFTER THE BREAKS WERE CHANGED, AT A DEALERSHIP, THEY BEGAN TO SQUEAL VERY LOAD. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK 4 TIMES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NOISE. EACH TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY SANDED THE BREAKS LIGHTLY AND PUT STOP SQUEAK ON. NOT MORE THAN A FEW DAYS AFTER EACH INCIDENT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE BREAKS TEND TO MAKE THIS EAR SPLITTING SOUND ON DECLINE AND AT LOW RATES OF SPEED. HOT OR COLD DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ABOUT 70% OF THE TIME WHEN BREAKING. THE CAR IS USED 50%/50% FOR CITY AND FREEWAY DRIVING. 40% OF WHICH IS TRAFFIC. I JUST WANT THIS PROBLEM TO STOP. ALSO SUN VISOR NO LONGER WILL STAY UP. ANNOYING.

EVERY 9,000 TO 10,000 MILES REAR BRAKE PADS WORN OUT PREMATURELY CAUSING ROTORS TO LOCK UP WITHOUT WARNING. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE OCCURRED ON ALMOST ALL 2010 HONDA CIVIC. IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION BRAKE PADS SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 30,000 MILES IN COMPARE TO OTHER MAJOR CAR MANUFACTURES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS WITH HONDA AND FIND A REMEDY FOR THE FIX. *TR

IT STARTED AS A SCRAPING NOISE LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WHEEL, ON THE FOURTH DAY THE NOISE WAS OVERWHELMINGLY LOUD, SCRAPING SOUND EVEN THOUGH MY SPEED WAS UNDER THE LIMIT. I TOOK MY CAR TO NTB FOR REPAIR AND WAS SHOCKED! REPLACED DISC BRAKE PADS,BRAKE SHOES,TWO ROTORS EVEN THOUGH THE ONE LOOKED SMOOTH THEY BOTH HSD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TODAY, 9/24/2014, I HAD TO REPLACE MY FRONT BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME AND THE CAR HAS ONLY 46,147 MILES ON IT. MY WIFE AND I DRIVE THE CAR VERY CAREFULLY AND WE DON'T LIVE IN A MOUNTAIN AREA. FIRST TIME WE CHANGED THE BRAKES WAS AT 10,000 MILES. I CHOSE HONDA CIVIC BECAUSE OF PREVIOUS HONDAS I HAD, AND NONE OF THE PREVIOUS HONDA HAD BRAKES ISSUES LIKE OUR 2010 CIVIC. I HAD A 2008 CIVIC WHICH I LEASED AT THAT TIME, AND I EXITED THE LEASE AT 36,000 MILES WITHOUT HAVING TO CHANGE THE BRAKES ONCE! I FEEL THAT MY 2010 CIVIC HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKES AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT SAID THEY HEARD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. HONDA NEEDS TO PUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CLIENTS AHEAD AND ADMIT OF THEIR FAULTY BRAKE PADS AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THE 2010 HONDA CIVIC. THANK YOU! *TR
VEHICLE HAS GRINDING NOISE. BROUGHT TO HONDA (NORM REEVES HONDA/HUNTINGTON BEACH) DEALERSHIP. FOUND THAT LEFT FRONT SENSOR BROKE OFF . ISSUE: WHY WOULD A BRAKE PAD EARLY WARNING DEVICE (SENSOR BREAK OFF). LEFT SIDE BROKE COMPLETELY, THE RIGHT SIDE WAS HALF BROKE. IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE? MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT BRAKES ARE COMPROMISED. IT ALSO CAUSED EXTRA COST BY CAUSING ROTORS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,365.
I WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKES WERE GONE AT APPROXIMATELY 30K MILES. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM OR AN ISSUE. NEW FRONT BRAKES WERE INSTALLED. THEN AS OF JUNE 2014, WITH ONLY 23K MILES ON THIS SET I AGAIN HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS. NO SQUEALING TO INDICATE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I'M VERY NERVOUS NOW BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL IF THE BRAKES ARE GOING. I DEEM THIS TO BE AN EXTREME HAZARD AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE. *TR
BRAKE DOES NOT FUNCTION WELL. I HAVE TO PUSH IT HARD TO HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO STOP EVEN WHEN THE SPEED IS VERY LOW. I ALSO NOTICE THAT WHEN THE AIR CONDITION IS ON, BRAKE WORKS WORSE. I BELIEVE THERE MIGHT BE A SELF-ACCELERATION PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITION IS ON. *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR 3 YEARS AGO AND AFTER 6 MONTHS STARTED BRAKE PROBLEMS. CAR DOESN'T COME TO COMPLETE STOP IF DON'T PRESS IT VERY VERY HARD. WHEN I TOOK CAR TO DEALER, HE SAYS GOOD AND WORKING FINE. HERE WE ARE AGAIN AFTER 6 MONTHS WITH ANOTHER COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS IN BRAKES. HAVE SPEND OVER 1800 DOLLARS ON PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS. CAR STILL WEARING OUT BRAKES IN UNDER 10K. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. COUNTLESS FOLKS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL YEAR. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT IN THE BRAKE DESIGN OR MATERIALS. *TR
HAD REPAIRS TO BRAKES AND ROTORS RESURFACED AFTER BEING TOLD TWO DAYS PRIOR BRAKES WERE FINE. SINCE THEN PARKING BRAKE LOCKS UP DURING COLD WEATHER UNABLE TO USE. *TR
AS A PRECAUTION, HAD BRAKES INSPECTED 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. EXPECTING SOME PAD WEAR AT THIS MILEAGE BUT THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. MY VERY TRUSTED MECHANIC SAW NO PROBLEMS WITH THE PADS AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ON NEXT OIL CHANGE 6 MONTHS LATER, SAME MECHANIC SAYS THAT MY PADS HAVE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE ROTORS - A $650 REPAIR ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. THE MOST TROUBLING THING ABOUT ALL OF THIS IS THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO "CRICKETING" OF THE BRAKE PADS AT ANY TIME! AND NO OTHER TYPICAL BREAK WEAR FUNCTION ISSUES. NOTHING TO INDICATE A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES AND NO WAY FOR ME TO KNOW, ASIDE FROM A SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE IN THE FUTURE. THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND WHY THE NHTSA IS ALLOWING HONDA TO IGNORE THIS ISSUE IS COMPLETELY BEYOND COMPREHENSION. *TR

I WENT FOR MY REGULAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKES NEED REPLACEMENTS. BRAKES WORN OUT AT VERY LOW MILEAGE AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM.
I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND HEARD THE FIRST DREADFUL, SQUEALING ALERT OF MY WEARING BRAKE PADS. I CALLED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND ASKED WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON AS I WAS A FIRST TIME VEHICLE OWNER. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE PADS WERE SURLY WORN OUT AND BLAMED ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING HABITS, OR I WAS RACING. AT THIS POINT I BEGAN TO LAUGH IN DISBELIEF. THEY TOLD ME TO COME IN SO THEY CAN INSPECT THE PADS. I WENT IN AND WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR THEY TOLD ME MY BRAKES HAD BEEN CHANGED AND I WOULD NOT BE PAYING ANYTHING SINCE THEY WERE CHANGED UNDER WARRANTY. NOT TOO LONG AFTER, THE SAME SQUEALING NOISE BEGAN AND THIS TIME AROUND I KNEW THE DRILL. EVER SINCE I'VE HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKES MANY TIMES, ABOUT 5 TO BE EXACT, AND ONLY AT 60K MILES. NOT TO MENTION, IM BEGINNING TO WORRY A BIT BECAUSE MY BRAKES SINCE THE RECENTLY LAST TIME I CHANGED MY PADS, THE RESPONSE IN BRAKING HAS BEEN VERY BAD. I DO FEAR FOR MY SAFETY SOMETIMES. ESPECIALLY FOR MY SIBLINGS' SAFETY WHEN I RIDE THEM TO SCHOOL. PLEASE HELP THE THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS THAT ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AS I AM. *TR

HONDA DEALER REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS, RESURFACED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS & LUBED CALIPER SLIDE PINS FOR A TOTAL OF OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $261.48. SECOND INCIDENT, AGAIN THE METALLIC GRINDING SOUND HEARD FROM THE FRONT END AT 19,344 MILES ON 6/9/12. TECHNICIAN FOUND FRONT BRAKES PADS WORN OUT. HONDA DEALER REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AT ANOTHER OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $265.32. THIRD INCIDENT, AGAIN THE METALLIC GRINDING SOUND HEARD FROM THE FRONT END AT 30,906 MILES ON 8/10/13. TECHNICIAN FOUND FRONT BRAKES PADS WORN OUT. HONDA DEALER REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND RESURFACED FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AT ANOTHER OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $528.25! PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT SINCE PURCHASE THE CIVIC HAS UNDERGONE 3 TIMES REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR RESURFACING, I.E., AN AVERAGE YEARLY OCCURENCE WHICH CUSTOMER THINKS IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THE LAST SERVICE HAVING THE MOST EXHORBITANT CHARGE FOR THE SAME SERVICE. *TR
THE BRAKES HAVE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AT LESS THAN 40,000 MILES. I NOTICED A PROBLEM, AND BROUGHT IT IN TO BE CHECKED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT NOT ONLY THAT I NEED NEW PADS BUT I NEED NEW ROTORS AS WELL. THERE IS NO REASON THAT THESE COMPONENTS WORE OUT THIS FAST, ESPECIALLY THE ROTORS. *TR

I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE A FACTORY SAFETY RECALL,SOME PEOPLE WITH NO MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE MIGHT CONTINUE TO OPERATE THIS CAR AND GET THEMSELVES INTO A HORRIBLE SITUATION SOONER OR LATER. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 39,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
EXPERIENCED LOUD, GRINDING, NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHILE DRIVING- (NOISE-NOT CONSISTENT). TOOK CIVIC TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DIAGNOSTIC CAME OUT TO BE: BAD BRAKES!! THIS WAS A HUGE SHOCK AND PRICEY SURPRISE!! NOT ONLY DID THE BRAKES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY (IN MINE AND OTHERS OPINIONS) BUT THE DEALER HAD THE AUDACITY TO OVERCHARGE ME. EMBARRASSED TO SAY I PAID: THERE SPECIAL $210. AS AN NAVE 1ST TIME BUYER, I OVERPAID. THE DEALERSHIP TECH WOMAN RIPPED ME OFF. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED, AS I THOUGHT HONDAS ARE RELIABLE AND ECONOMICALLY INEXPENSIVE TO REPAIR VEHICLES. *TR
FRONT BRAKES AT 3MM AFTER 17,000 MILES. STRONGLY RECOMMEND AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE, A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND CONSUMERS PAYING OUT OF POCKET. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR

(MAYBE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE AS THEY KNEW IT WAS A HONDA ISSUE?) I THINK THIS IS PREMATURE WEARING OUT OF MY BRAKES AS BRAKES SHOULD LAST APPROX. 30000 MI NOT ONLY 10000-11000 MILES. HONDA CIVIC LX 2010. FEW DAYS AGO I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE PADS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THAT'S VERY STRANGE CONSIDERING MY CAR HAS ONLY 20,100 MILES. I HEARD A SQUEALING METAL ON METAL NOISE ON MY HONDA CIVIC, AND SO TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT SERVICED - THE MECHANIC WHO HELPED ME TOLD ME IT WOULD PROBABLY BE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DISCOVERED THE FRONT BRAKES NEEDED REPLACING --- AT 19,800 MILES. HONDA REFUSES TO COVER THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE UNDER THE "WEAR AND TEAR" CLAUSE OF THE WARRANTY --- BUT THE BRAKES FAILED AT 19,800 MILES. UNACCEPTABLE. WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA ABOUT THE PROBLEM, THEY WERE COLD HEARTED, THE OPERATOR WAS CLEARLY IN INDIA AND DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE - I WILL NEVER OWN A HONDA AGAIN. *TR
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
I HAVE A 2010 HONDA CIVIC THAT I PURCHASE IN OCT OF 2009 THAT IS GOING THROUGH BRAKES PREMATURELY. THERE MUST BE SOME SORT OF DEFECT WITH THE CIVIC'S BRAKING SYSTEM. ON NOVEMBER 30TH ON 2010, I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO SCOTT ROBINSON HONDA IN TORRANCE, CA BECAUSE MY BREAKS WERE SQUEAKING. I WAS CERTAIN THAT AFTER ONLY 13 MONTHS AND 12,457 MILES THERE MUST BE SOME SORT OF DEFECT AND THAT MY WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE COST OF ANY REPAIRS. WRONG. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REP THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY BRAKE PADS AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST BECAUSE THE PADS WERE WORN EVENLY AND IT APPEARED TO BE "NORMAL" WEAR AND TEAR. I TOLD HIM THAT I HAVE HAD HONDA'S FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BREAK PADS BEFORE 25,000-30,000 MILES. HE SIMPLY SHOOK HIS HEAD AND GENTLY INSINUATED THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO MY DRIVING HABITS OR THE FACT THAT I LIVE ON A HILL. I PAID THEM $196.59 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. ON OCTOBER 31ST 2011, I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO SCOTT ROBINSON HONDA AGAIN FOR A PROBLEM I HAD BEEN HAVING WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCKS (LUCKILY, THIS PROBLEM WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY). WHEN THE REP CAME OUT TO UPDATE ME ON THE STATUS, HE INFORMED ME THAT I HAD VERY LITTLE LEFT TO MY BRAKE PADS. I WAS SHOCKED AND OF COURSE LOOKED AT THE MAN LIKE HE HAD FOUR HEADS. I TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS ONLY A YEAR AND LESS THAN 11,000 MILES (10,993 MILES TO BE EXACT) SINCE I LAST HAD THE PADS REPLACED. ONCE AGAIN, I WAS MET WITH THE SYMPATHY OF A REP SHAKING HIS HEAD AND A "SOMETIMES THAT HAPPENS" COMMENT. I HAVE ALWAYS SWORN BY HONDA VEHICLES, BUT IF I HAVE TO LAY OUT 200 BUCKS FOR NEW BRAKE PADS EVERY 11,000 MILES, I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE IN THE FUTURE. THE BRAKES PULL AND MAKE TREMENDOUS NOISE WHEN STOPPING SHORT AND THEY PULL AND MAKE NOISE WHEN TURNING AT NORMAL SPEEDS. THEY RUMBLE, SCREECH, AND SKID. IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS STICKING. THE CAR IS GETTING 17 TO 20 MILES TO THE GALLON ON SURFACE STREETS AND FREEWAYS WITHOUT THE AIR-CONDITIONING. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND HONDA SAYS ALL THE CARS DO IT, SO IT ISN'T A LEMON. THE HONDA CIVIC I TEST DROVE DID NOT DO IT. ALSO, THERE WAS SOME BENT METAL UNDERNEATH THE CAR TOWARD THE CENTER. THE CAR HAD 11 MILES ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN DROPPED WHEN UNLOADING IT FROM THE TRAILER. THE SALESMAN WORKED HARD TO SELL ME THIS PARTICULAR CAR. IT FRIGHTENS ME AND IT FRIGHTENS MY PARENTS WHEN WE DRIVE IN IT. I DO NOT THINK IT IS SAFE AND I FEEL THERE IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN WHEN THE BRAKES GO OUT. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS CLASSIFIED AS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW HONDA CIVIC IN 3/2010 (IT ONLY HAD 11 MILES). ABOUT 7-8 MONTHS LATER, I NOTICED THE CIVIC WAS MAKING WIERD BRAKING NOISES. IT WOULD COME AND GO. BUT IN 2/2011 (LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER MY PURCHASE) I WAS SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS NOT BRAKING. I ALMOST REAR ENDED SOMEONE AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS TIME, THERE WAS NO SQEAKING SOUNDS TO WARN ME, THE CAR SUDDENLY SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS METAL RUBBING ON METAL AND MY CAR WOULDN'T BRAKE. AGAIN, I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS NOT RIGHT! PREMATURE WEAROUT OF FRONT BRAKING PADS AND DISCS ON 2010 HONDA CIVIC WITH 22,000 MILES. THE CAR WAS PRIMARILY DRIVEN HIGHWAY MILES AND IS ONLY 12 MONTHS OLD JUST COMING OUT OF IT'S FIRST WINTER. THE RIGHT FRONT HAD A FULLY WORN OUT PAD AND A HALF WORN OUT PAD ALONG WITH HEAT DISTRESS ON THE RF ROTOR INDICATING CALIPER STICKING AND PAD NOT RETRACTING FROM ROTOR. LEFT FRONT PADS HAD SIGNIFICANTLY UNEVEN WEAR ON THE SAME PAD FROM FRONT TO BACK AGAIN INDICATING SOMETHING IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS STICKING. TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER WHERE THEY COULD ONLY REPEAT THE WORD "BRAKE PADS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY". I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT BRAKE PADS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IF THEY ARE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND WEAR OUT. IF THEY DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND STICK, OVER HEAT AND DO NOT RETRACT IN THE FIRST YEAR, SOMETHING IS SIGNIFICANTLY WRONG IN THE DESIGN. GM AND FORD HAVE BEEN DESIGNING VERY GOOD BRAKE SYSTEMS THAT LAST 40K 50K OR MORE MILES. WITH THE 2010 HONDA CIVIC, BECAUSE OF SIGNIFICANT UNEVEN PAD WEAR, A "BRAKE JOB" HAS TO BE PERFORMED AT EVERY THIRD OLD CHANGE. ON FEBRUARY 22 I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD MY BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT'S A 2010 HONDA CIVIC WITH 21,000 MILES. I'VE OWNED IT FOR 1 YEAR AND 2 MONTHS- SO THE BRAKES WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER A FOURTH TIME AND THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME WHICH CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE TWO PEDALS BEING SO CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY HAZARD. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE.
