THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

2007 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION ACCIDENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HEARD A LOUD REVVING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CROSSED OVER THE CONCRETE PARKING MEDIAN AND HIT A MOTORIST. THE CONSUMER STATED HER FOOT WAS NOT ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME. BOTH VEHICLES SUFFERED DAMAGED. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A LOSS. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH HE ENGAGED THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ACTUALLY EXPLAIN WHY IT HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE ON ANY SURFACE UNLESS IT WAS FLAT AND USUALLY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES WHO ALSO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000.

2007 HONDA CIVIC, UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED 2 TIMES WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, NO INTERFERENCE FROM FLOOR MAT, CAR IN DRIVE. 1ST TIME CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN 45 MINUTES, 2ND TIME ONLY ABOUT 5 MINUTES. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT IDLE HAS BEEN "RELEARNED", AND OTHER SOFTWARE ELEMENTS HAVE BEEN REINSTALLED. SO FAR, TECHNICIANS HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED CAUSE OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. BECAUSE IT FORTUNATELY HAPPENED WHILE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON BRAKE, NO DAMAGE OCCURRED, SINCE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO HOLD CAR IN POSITION UNTIL IT WAS TURNED OFF THE FIRST TIME. CAR WAS RACING FOR ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE TURNED OFF. WHEN TURNED BACK ON WITH CAR IN PARK, THE ENGINE STILL RACED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN CAME BACK TO NORMAL IDLE AND DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO DESTINATION WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEM. CAR WAS TAKEN THE NEXT MORNING TO DEALERSHIP AND KEPT FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE TECHNICIANS TESTED IT, DROVE IT OVER 500 MILES, HAD FACTORY TECHNICIANS COME, AND PERFORMED UPDATES AND REINSTALLATIONS LISTED ABOVE. THE CAR WAS DECLARED SAFE AND RUNNING ACCORDING TO HONDA SPECS, SO OWNER TOOK BACK THE CAR. WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. 2ND TIME, DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL, AT WHICH POINT RPMS ROSE TO OVER 5000, THEN DROPPED BACK TO NORMAL IDLE. CURRENTLY CAR IS BEING CHECKED AT DEALERSHIP AGAIN. *TR

I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE (TURNING RIGHT INTO IT AND PARKING BETWEEN CARS), WAS ALMOST AT A FULL STOP, ABOUT TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, WHEN THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO FULL SPEED. IT JUMPED THE LITTLE CURB AT THE FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE AND WENT THROUGH A SHOP WINDOW AT AN ANGLE, WEDGING IN THE DOORWAY. IT LEFT ACCELERATION MARKS ON THE SIDEWALK AFTER JUMPING THE CURB, AND THE WHEELS WERE STILL SPINNING IN THE DOORWAY UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, THEN TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS TESTED, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I NEVER DROVE IT AGAIN. *TR

WAS APPROACHING TRAFFIC LIGHT TRAVELING BEHIND OTHER VEHICLES AND BRAKING IN PREPARATION TO STOP, WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE BEGAN TO RAM UP AND DOWN WHILE MY FOOT REMAINS ON BRAKE. I SHIFTED GEAR TO PARK AND ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUSH UP AND DOWN. I TURNED ENGINE OFF, AND THEN BACK ON AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUSH UP AND DOWN. I AGAIN TURNED ENGINE OFF AND THEN ON AND ENGINE STILL RUSHED UP AND DOWN. I TURNED ENGINE OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. ENGINE BEGAN TO RUSH, BUT THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. I WAS VERY CONCERNED AND EXCITED CONCERNING POTENTIAL RECURRENCE LEADING TO SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR TO HONDA DEALER SHIP, EXPLAINED SITUATION. DEALER SUPPOSEDLY INSPECTED AND FOUND NO CAUSE OR EXPLANATION FOR PROBLEM. I REPORTED PROBLEM IN WRITING TO AMERICAN HONDA AUTO CORP. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, ON AUGUST 17,2007 AS I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AND I HIT A SMALL TRUCK THAT WAS PARKED IN THE FRONT SPOT. THERE WAS MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK BUT MY CAR SUSTAINED OVER $7000.00 IN DAMAGES. I WAS JUST GLAD THERE WERE NO PEOPLE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE TRUCK, SINCE THEY COULD HAVE SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES. I WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY INJURED BUT I AM CONCERNED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. THE DEALER DENIED ANY PROBLEMS. *JB

THROTTLE LAG. IMMEDIATELY UPON PURCHASING AND DRIVING THE HONDA CIVIC EX 2007 THERE WAS A DELAY IN RESPONSE FROM PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASING THE ENGINE'S RPMS. THERE WAS A DISTINCT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CAR THAT WAS TEST DRIVEN AND THE CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER ORIGINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE THROTTLE LAG BETWEEN THE TWO CARS. THEY CONTACTED HONDA CANADA AND WERE TOLD TO PROPERLY "BREAK IN" THE ENGINE. THIS CONSISTED OF LUGGING THE CAR IN FIFTH GEAR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) UP A HILL FOR APPROX 100 KILOMETERS. THEY FELT THAT THE ENGINE WAS TIGHT AND THAT THIS MIGHT HELP THE THROTTLE LAG PROBLEM. IT DID, MARGINALLY. FURTHER CONTACT WITH HONDA CANADA WAS MET WITH A RESPONSE THAT THROTTLE LAG WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR AND THE DRIVE BY WIRE THROTTLE SYSTEM. APPARENTLY THROTTLE LAG IN DRIVE BY WIRE IS NOT UNCOMMON AND THERE ARE SOME AFTER MARKET PARTS (SPRINT BOOSTER) TO HELP THE PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR HONDA AND THEY ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IN EUROPE. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT PERHAPS IT IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE BUT NO SOFTWARE FIX HAS BEEN AVAILABLE THROUGH HONDA CANADA. THERE IS MOST DEFINITELY A PROBLEM BETWEEN THE SENDING AND RECEIVING UNIT IN THE DRIVE BY WIRE SYSTEM. THIS PROBLEM IS MORE PRONOUNCED IN SOME CIVICS THAN OTHERS. ALTHOUGH MINE IS PRONOUNCED, HONDA CANADA DOES NOT SEE IT AS A PROBLEM. IT IS MOST OBVIOUS ON A STEEP HILL WHERE YOU MUST USE THE HAND BRAKE TO KEEP FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS AS THERE IS APPROXIMATELY A ONE SECOND DELAY BETWEEN THE TIME YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDDLE AND THE ENGINE RESPONDS. ALSO IF YOU TAP THE ACCELERATOR WHILE DOWNSHIFTING THE RPMS WILL NOT INCREASE AT ALL. *TR

TL*-THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX WAS REGISTERING THE WRONG MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH ODOMETER. THEY INFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT GOING ON, BUT HER VEHICLE DIDN'T APPLY. THE LAWSUIT WAS FOR CONSUMERS WITH ODOMETER PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE PART OF THE LAW SUIT. SHE STATED THAT THE ODOMETER READING IN THE VEHICLE WAS 750 MILES WHICH WAS NOT ACCURATE. *AK UPDATE 04/17/07 *TR

HE HAS CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT IT WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED.
