SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RING

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

I KEEP CHANGING BRAKES AND ROTORS. I HAVE DONE THIS 2-3 TIMES SO FAR. THE STEERING KEEPS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKES. IF YOU DON'T CHANGE THE ROTORS, THIS PROBLEM WILL GET WORSE, SO I AM FORCED TO KEEP CHANGING THE ROTORS EVERY OTHER YEAR. OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE HAD MANY HONDA CARS. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR CONDITION. I BELIEVE THERE'S A FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES OR THE ROTORS. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND REPORTED TO THE SCENE, A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE SPECIFIC REPAIRS. THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR FELL ON MY LAP AND HONDA REPLACED IT BECAUSE IT WAS STILL ON WARRANTY.. BUT NOW THE PASSENGER VISOR IS HANGING DOWN BUT HONDA WONT REPLACE BECAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FRONT BRAKES DOES WEAR OUT AROUND 12K MILES AFTER REPLACING IT WITH THE DEALER FOR THE 3RD TIME (HONDA DONT WANT TO ADMIT THAT THEY USE POOR QUALITY PADS SO YOU'LL KEEP COMING BACK TO THEM FOR REPLACEMENT, THEY SAY ITS THE WAY YOU DRIVE BUT I DID POINT OUT TO THEM THAT IF I DRIVE LIKE A MANIAC I WOULD HAVE ALSO NEED TO REPLACE MY TIRES WHICH LASTED ME MORE THAN 50K MILES) I DECIDED GO GET AN AFTERMARKET CERAMIC PADS AND HAD IT INSTALLED FROM PEPBOYS. ITS BEEN MORE THAN 30K MILES AND BRAKES ARE STILL FINE. THE WIPER BLADE ON DRIVER SIDE DOES BECOME STICKY ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH LEAVES UNPLEASANT STREAK ON MY WINDSHIELD.. EVEN AFTER GETTING A NEW WIPER IT STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.. I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BY REPLACING MY DRIVER WIPER WITH A SHORTER ONE(ORIGINAL IS 26" NOW I HAVE 24"). *TR

THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE DEALER TO CONFIRM WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT APPROX. 45 MPH IN MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC.SEEING THAT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL HAD JUST TURNED RED I APPLIED THE BRAKES. AT THAT INSTANT I HEARD A "POP" AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WARNING LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED ON MY DASHBOARD. FORTUNATELY I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT STRIKING ANYONE. I "NURSED" THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A BLOWN BRAKE LINE. A NEW LINE WAS INSTALLED , AT A COST OF $280.00. I WAS TOLD THAT "YOU MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING WHICH SHOT UP AND STRUCK THE LINE". I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT, JUST AS I STATED ABOVE, "I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND HEARD A POP! I DEFINITELY DID NOT STRIKE ANYTHING! I THEN REQUESTED THE REPLACED BRAKE LINE WHICH I NOW HAVE IN MY POSSESSION. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE VEHICLE WAS INTERMITTENTLY EXPERIENCING AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL REPEATED PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WORN. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED ALL FOUR BRAKES; YET INTERMITTENTLY THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD FROM A STOP RESULTING IN A SINGLE CAR CRASH IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC BEGAN HAVING A LOUD SOUND COMING FROM THE DRIVERS REAR WHEEL. UPON LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM HONDA - SERVICE BULLETIN # 07-055 FOR REAR ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND O-RING INSPECTION. IT STATED THAT SOME SENSORS WERE NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY AND WATER MAY ENTER THE HUB ASSEMBLY DAMAGING THE WHEEL BEARINGS. IN AREAS WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED, THE WHEEL BEARINGS MAY CORRODE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE WHEEL FALLING OFF. I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE ROAD SALT IS USED. MY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER WAS LISTED WITHIN THE RANGE OF POTENTIALLY EFFECTED VEHICLES ON THE RECALL, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. I CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, EXPLAINED THAT MY CAR HAS THE WHEEL BEARING ISSUE AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT EFFECTED AND ONLY CERTAIN VEHICLES IN THE NOTICE WERE EFFECTED, NOT ALL VINS LISTED. THEY STATED MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL EVEN IF MY VEHICLE HAS THE DEFECT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A SERVICE REPAIR CENTER WHICH CONFIRMED THAT MY REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS BAD AND CORRODED. THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. I HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM AS STATED IN THE RECALL AND FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL THE VEHICLES THEY HAVE LISTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. IT'S OBVIOUS MORE VEHICLES ARE EFFECTED THAN THEY THOUGHT. IF THEY LIST A RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS THAN THEY SHOULD CHECK ALL ON THE LIST, NOT JUST PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH ONES THEY THINK MIGHT HAVE THE PROBLEM. *TR

I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHERE I SHOULD PUT THIS INFORMATION, BUT I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 31,000 MILES THAT THE DEALERSHIP STATES NEEDS NEW FRONT BRAKES. THEY TOLD ME RIGHT UP FRONT THAT THIS WAS COMMON IN THE CIVIC AND IF IT WAS AN ACCORD, IT WOULD BE REAR BRAKES. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS FOR OVER 45 YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT REQUIRES A BRAKE REPLACEMENT AT THIS LOW MILAGE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE THE CONSUMER RATINGS FOR RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY WERE THE HIGHEST I COULD FIND. THEY DID NOT MENTION THIS ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. I AM NOT SURE WHO TO CONTACT, BUT OTHER CONSUMERS WOULD SURELY LIIKE TO BE AWARE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF HONDA.

VEHICLE: HONDA YEAR: 2007 MODEL: CIVIC: LX UPON BRAKING OF A BUMPY ROAD, THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE AT THE FRONT TIRES AND THE VEHICLES STOPS, BUT THEN SLIDES FORWARD. THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN DECELERATING DOWNHILL ON WET SURFACE AND ON ROADS BEING REPAIRED WHERE THERE IS UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER AND WAS INFORMED, "THERE IS NO PROBLEM." NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAT 10K MILES. VEHICLE STILL ONLY HAS ~36K MILES. 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES AND POWER. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES WERE NOT BRAKING PROPERLY. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED, BUT AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES AND ROAD TESTING, THEY STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING NORMAL. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HAVE BRAKING ISSUES, AND AFTER ALMOST HAVING A COLLISION DUE TO DECREASED BRAKING ABILITY, SHE AGAIN CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEY TESTED THE BRAKES AGAIN, AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO FAIL ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. THE DEALER EVALUATED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED A REPORT FROM HONDA STATED THE IMA WILL STOP CHARGING AND STOP WITH ASSISTED BRAKING IF TEMPERATURES ARE TOO HIGH AND THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE CUSTOMER TO FEEL A DIFFERENCE IN BRAKING WITHOUT REGENERATION. HONDA ADVISED THAT THE CONSUMER DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN AND WHEN SHE PARKED THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THEM DOWN AS WELL TO HELP COOL OFF THE HYBRID BATTERIES WHICH WERE LOCATED BEHIND THE SEAT. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE CONSUMER BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO PERFORM A COMPUTER UPGRADE ON HER VEHICLE. THE REPORT ALSO STATED UPDATED IMA CONTROL UNIT AND BATTERY SOFTWARE. THE CONSUMER DROVE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND NOTED SOME IMPROVEMENT WITH THE BRAKING ISSUE, BUT NOW THE IMA BATTERIES WILL NOT STAY CHARGED, AND IF THE BATTERY LEVEL GOES BELOW 4 BARS, WHICH IS 1/2 OF FULL BARS OR A COMPLETELY CHARGED BATTERY, THE VEHICLE'S POWER IS GREATLY DECREASED TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO TRAVEL AT SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH FOR 15 SECONDS AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. *JB

I HAVE HAD 2 REAR END CAR ACCIDENTS WITH MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC. IN BOTH INSTANCES THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED CAUSING OVER $10,000.00 IN DAMAGE. I PAID THE FIRST ACCIDENT WITH MY OWN FUNDS TO AVOID MY INSURANCE FROM RAISING. THE SECOND ONE WAS PAID BY MY INSURANCE AS THE DAMAGE WAS MORE EXTENSIVE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AS THEY CONTINUE TO FAIL, BUT THEY CANNOT DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS UNLESS THEY CAN RECREATE IT. ONE DEALERSHIP PUT ON NEW BREAK PADS, A NEW ABS MOTOR/SWITCH, AND DRAINED THE BRAKE FLUID. I AM SURE THE OLD PARTS WERE EITHER DESTROYED OR SENT BACK TO HONDA, BUT I DO NOT THINK THEY ARE AVAILABLE. THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS WHEN IT IS VERY COLD AND DRIVING THROUGH PUDDLES OF WATER. THE LAST OCCURENCE I HAD TO DRIVE INTO A CURB TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AS THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS TRIED TO GET HONDA TO RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE, BUT THEY WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. HONDA CONTINUES TO INSIST I AM AT FAULT EVEN THOUGH THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR BRAKES. WHEN I USE THE BRAKES DURING THE COLD WEATHER WITH EXTREME MOISTURE, THEY GRIND LIKE A DRILL IN CEMENT OR METAL. THE NOISE COMES FROM THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. IT IS NOT THE ABS BRAKES MAKING AS THE NOISE IS MORE FLUTERING THAT OCCURS ACROSS THE WHOLE FRONT-END AND THE CAR STOPS WHEN YOU SLAM ON THE BRAKES. THE LAST DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOOK ME ON A TEST DRIVE DURING SNOWY WEATHER, BUT IT DID NOT OCCUR. AGAIN, HE TOLD ME UNLESS THEY CAN RECREATE IT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO FIX IT. I'VE NOTED THE APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE WAS IN JANUARY, BUT 2ND ACCIDENT OCCURED IN FEBRUARY OF 2008. I GUESS I MUST GET KILLED BEFORE ANY DEALERSHIP OR HONDA TAKES ME SERIOUSLY AS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANY MORE. CAR MODEL: HONDA CIVIC HYBRID 2007 THE CAR HAS A SLIPPING BRAKE. WHEN PULLING UP TO A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN THE BRAKE CAN AND FREQUENTLY DOES SUDDENLY LET GO. WHEN LESS THAN FULL FORCE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKE ENGAGES NORMALLY. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CAR NEARS A FULL STOP THE BRAKE SUDDENLY LETS GO. THIS CAN BE COMPENSATED FOR BY APPLYING ADDITIONAL BRAKE FORCE, BUT THE SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING CAN BE STARTLING AND DISORIENTING. THE DEFECT HAPPENS ALMOST CONSISTENTLY UNDER THE CONDITIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE, NAMELY LESS THAN FULL BRAKING FORCE. I PERSONALLY BECAME ACCUSTOMED TO THE QUIRK. HOWEVER, MY WIFE HAS CLAIMED THAT THE DEFECT NEARLY CAUSED HER TO REAR END ANOTHER CAR AND HAS SINCE REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *JB

AT LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC, THE BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED AND FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THE FACT THAT I NEEDED BRAKE WORK WAS FIRST BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY THE DEALER WHEN THEY DID SOME RECALL WORK ON THE CAR FOR ANOTHER ISSUE. WHILE I WAS RESEARCHING WHY THIS MAY BE HAPPENING AND TRYING TO GET SOME ANSWERS FROM THE MANUFACTURER THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING MAJOR REPAIR BILLS, TIRE DAMAGE AND PAINT DAMAGE TO THE CAR. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO OPEN AND INVESTIGATION OR ENTERTAIN A COMPLAINT IN THE MATTER. THE DEALER WILL NOT HONOR REPAIRS UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I MISSED PAYMENTS AND RISKED REPOSSESSION DUE TO THE COST/DAMAGES. HAD THIS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS. THE STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED WHEN BRAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
