STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL and model year 2003-2007 Accord V6 vehicles. In May 2012, Honda filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL vehicles. In September 2012, Honda informed the agency that it was including an additional 573,147 vehicles including certain model year 2003 through 2007 Accord V6 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 625,762. Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose, free of charge. The original recall began in June 2012, and owners of those vehicles may obtain the free remedy. Sufficient parts are not yet available for owners of the vehicles covered by the September 2012 expansion, but are expected to be available in early 2013. Honda will notify owners of these vehicles beginning on October 26, 2012, and will notify these owners again when parts are available so those vehicles can be brought to dealers for applications of the free remedy. While driving at 35 mph, your power steering suddenly failed, causing your car to pull hard to the left toward the median. Your car hit a traffic sign pole, which broke your windshield. The airbags did not deploy and the seat belt pretensioners did not engage, so you hit your head on the windshield and were knocked unconscious for about an hour. You sustained a head injury requiring neurologist follow-up, plus minor cuts on your legs and arms. The car was totaled in the crash.

OTHER THING IS I HAD TO TAKE OFF THE FUSE FOR THE RADIO DUE TO THE RADIO MAKING LOUD POPPING SOUNDS AND TURNING OF AND ON THE SPEAKERS ARE FINE ITS ALL ORIGINAL . I WAS DRIVING DOWN THROUGH SOMEONES YARD AND ITS LIKE MY VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND A MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AN EXCLAMATION POINT IN A TRIANGLE. I ALMOST GOT STUCK AND I WAS HORRIFIED AT THE SOUND. LATER ON I STARTED NOTICING IT WAS HARDER TO CONTROL THW VEHICLE AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE ROAD. ESPECIALLY AFTER IT RAINED I WOULD LEAVE MY YARD AND WOULD ALMOST BE TRAPPED IN MY YARD. VERY EERIE GRINDING SOUND WITH 3 MALFUNCTION LIGHTS ON: ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND BRAKE LAMP ILLUMINATED.

SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE IT WAS SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL, MY CAR WAS NO LONGER SUBJECT TO THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. THIS DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT TO ME.

THEY STILL CANT FIND THE PROBLEM. CAR ALSO TURNS OFF SOMETIMES. HAPPPENED FIVE TIMES ALREADY. THE STEERING WHISTLE SOUND IS CONSTANT NOW AND WHEN MY CAR TURNED OFF IT WAS ON THE STREET PARKED AND ALSO MAKING TURNS CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE STIFF.

2005 ACCORD HYBRID - IMA FAILURE, TAKATA RECALL AIR BAGS, AND POWER STEERING FAILURES. I HAVE TAKEN MY HYBRID IN SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 8 YEARS WITH THE IMA AND ENGINE LIGHT ON. DEALER DID 2 COMPUTER UPGRADES TO "FIX" IT. "NOT FIXED"; I STILL HAVE THE IMA AND ENGINE LIGHT ON. NOW NO POWER STEERING OR $1500.00 TO FIX THAT AND HONDA SENT ME HOME WITH IT NOT FIXED - NOT SAFE! AT ONE POINT I HAD NO POWER AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SEATTLE TO PORTLAND WITH NO ACCELARATOR POWER. IT WAS LIKE I WAS COASTING AT 50 MPH FOR ABOUT 75 MILES UNTIL I REACHED MY HOME. I TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALER, THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME OVER $4500.00 TO REPLACE THE IMA, WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I FIRST TOOK IT IN IN 2009, 2010, AND AFTER. THEY SAID "DRIVE YOUR CAR MORE". BUT MY IMA STILL COMES ON SINCE I DON'T DRIVE MUCH SINCE MY STROKE IN 2012 AND DON'T HAVE $5-10K LAYING AROUND. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTIES. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE SEAT BELT WAS FASTENED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF A GROCERY STORE. I WAS ON MY HOME FROM WORK AND HAD STOPPED TO PURCHASE A FEW ITEMS. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. I HAD BEEN IN THE STORE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHEN I HEARD THE LOUDSPEAKER ASKING FOR THE OWNER OF A 2005 GOLD HONDA ACCORD TO COME TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE COUNTER. WHEN I APPROACHED THE PERSON BEHIND THE COUNTER, HE ASKED ME TO LOOK OUTSIDE TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE ON FIRE WAS, IN FACT, MY CAR. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF MY CAR AND TWO VEHICLES FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE TRYING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. HONDA INSISTED IT WAS MY FAULT, BUT I FOUND OUT MUCH LATER THAT ENGINE FIRES HAD OCCURRED IN OTHER 2005 ACCORDS. STATE FARM GAVE ME THE REPLACEMENT VALUE FOR THE VEHICLE, BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH TO PURCHASE A CAR OF EQUAL VALUE. THE HONDA ACCORD WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FELT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPENSATED FOR THE ENTIRE COST OF THE CAR. PLUS, IF THE FIRE HAD OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I MIGHT NOT BE HERE WRITING THIS LETTER TO YOU. I WAS JUST RECENTLY MADE AWARE OF SOME OF THE RECALLS FROM HONDA FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM AND COMPENSATE ME FAIRLY FOR MY LOSS. HONDA ACCORD 2005 2.4LITER VTEC 4DR/LX POWER STEERING FLUID HOSE FEED IS LEAKING AND HONDA WOULDN'T COVER REPAIRS. THE POWER STEERING FLUID HOSE FEED IS LEAKING BECAUSE OF CRACKS ON THE LINE.I HAVE BEEN ADDING FLUID TO THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR FOR THREE MONTHS TWICE A MONTH. LAST WEEK I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASE IN 2005 FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THEY SAW THE PROBLEM AND DIAGNOSE. THEY INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM IS PART OF THE RECALL FROM HONDA LAST YEAR. AFTER RUNNING MY CAR VIN IT CAME UP THAT MY CAR VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL VIN LIST. I ASK THEM WHY IT IS NOT PART OF THE LIST. SINCE MY CAR WAS PURCHASE IN 2005 BRAND NEW AND IS PART OF THE MODEL YEAR BETWEEN 2003 TO 2007. THEY SAY I SHOULD CALL HONDA AND ASK THEM ABOUT THE CAR. SO TODAY 3/13/2013 I CALL HONDA AND THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL LIST AS WELL. EVEN THOUGH IT IS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM FROM THE OCTOBER 2012 RECALL. THEY SAID IT CAN'T BE COVER. I WILL HAVE TO PAID OUT OF POCKET. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ABOUT 500 TO 600 FOR LABOR AND PARTS TO REPLACE THE BAD POWER STEERING HOSE. VEHICLE WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS PURCHASED FROM HONDA OF PASADENA ON 7/22/05 (DELIVERY DONE ON 7/26/05). ON 10/10/05 VEHICLE DEVELOPED A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. ON 10/14/05 VEHICLE DELIVERED TO COLONIAL HONDA FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE W/ EXTREMELY LOW FLUIDS, NO LEAKS. THEY TOPPED UP FLUIDS AND INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM SHOULD FUNCTION NORMALLY. THEIR TRAINED TECHNICIAN NOTICED (AND POINTED OUT) EVIDENCE SOME BODY WORK AND REPAINTING DONE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. HONDA OF PAS. HAD NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME THAT THE CAR HAD SUSTAINED ANY KIND OF DAMAGE OR REPAIRS PRIOR TO SALE OF THE CAR TO ME. THE CAR WAS SOLD AS BRAND NEW, NOT 'AS-IS'. AFTER MY INITIAL COMPLAINT, HONDA OF PAS. FAILED TO PRODUCE RECORDS OF DAMAGE/REPAIRS PRIOR TO SALE OF THE VEHICLE, THEY DID NOT BELIEVE THE DAMAGE/REPAIR WAS SIGNIFICANT. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST. ON 10/31/05 VEHICLE BACK TO COLONIAL HONDA FOR REPAIR. SERVICE MANAGER AT COLONIAL INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THEY BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY COLLISION DAMAGE. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $90.00 TO HAVE DIAGNOSIS. AT THAT TIME NO REPAIR WAS DONE. HONDA OF PAS. AND AMERICAN HONDA BOTH DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE VEHICLE. A) IF THE VEHICLE WAS INDEED DAMAGED IN A COLLISION, THEN THAT WOULD VOID SEVERAL PARTS OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY SOLD TO ME FOR $1350 (SALES FRAUD & MISREPRESENTATION). POTENTIALLY THERE COULD BE ADDITIONAL SAFETY-RELATED PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE THAT ARE (STILL) DORMANT AT THIS STAGE B) IF HONDA OF PAS. IS TELLING THE TRUTH, THEN THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE IS A DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED: HOWEVER COLONIAL REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY. I WANT TO KNOW 1) IF THE DRIVEABILITY OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPROMISED 2) IF I'M PUTTING MYSELF AT RISK BY DRIVING THE VEHICLE 3) IF THE FACTORY WARRANTY AND ADDITIONAL EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED ARE VALID.
