VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."
Fix: Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY 05 ACCORD COUPE WILL STAY ACCELERATED WHEN BRAKES ARE PRESSED, IN NEUTRAL, OR RELEASING THE ACCELERATER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE PRESSED THE BRAKE ONLY TO NOT SLOW DOWN. THANKFULLY I WAS ON OPEN HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED AND CONTINUES TO HAPPEN ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. AT LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH.
ENGINE STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING (AT VARIOUS SPEEDS) AND ALMOST CAUSED CRASH. VEHICLE SOMETIMES WILL NOT START, IDLES ERRATICALLY WHILE RUNNING OR WHILE DRIVING, OR STALLS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON OTHER 2005 HONDA ACCORDS HOWEVER WHEN I LOOK UP MY VEHICLE'S VIN, THERE IS NO RECALL. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY TOO SAID THERE IS NO COVERAGE FOR THIS REPAIR AS MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
WHEN I TURN ON MY CAR IT'S LIKE SOME IS PRESSING THE GAS ON ITS OWN AND IT'S HARDER TO BREAK ALSO WHEN I'M ON IDLE. BUT WHEN LET GO OF THE BREAK THE CAR LAUNCHES IN FRONT AS IF I WAS PRESSING THE GAS WEN I'M ONLY LETTING GO OF THE GAS PEDAL.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON WAS ON BUT I WAS NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. HAVEN'T USED IT IN A COUPLE WEEKS BUT THE BUTTON WAS SHOWING ON THE DASH. I TOOK MY FOOT OF THE GAS PETAL TO SLOW DOWN AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING. FIRST I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND THAT SLOWED THE CAR DOWN CONSIDERABLE BUT I I COULD TEL IT WAS STILL TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND I DIDN'T WANT TO WEAR OUT THE BRAKES AND HAVE NO WAY OF STOPPING SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND TRIED JIGGLING THE GAS WITH MY FOOT THINKING IT WAS STUCK OR BLOCKED AND IT WASN'T. IT FELT LIKE HOW THE GAS PEDAL FEELS WHEN IT'S IN CRUISE CONTROL JUST KIND OF JIGGLING AS YOU PRESS IT. SO I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON OFF DID AND IT WAS STILL ACCELERATING SO I PUT TH CAR IN NEUTRAL IT REVVED UP TO A VERY HIGH RPM CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS FULL THROTTLE DID THAT FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS WHILE I BRAKED AND SLOWED THE CAR DOWN THEN IT STOPPED REVVING AND AFTER I STOPPED FOR S COUPLE MINUTES I DROVE AGAIN AND IT WAS FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. I WAS GOING ABOUT 65 WHEN IT GOT STUCK AND IT GOT UP TO HIGH 70S BEFORE I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND GOT IT DOWN TO 60 THEN IT BEGAN ACCELERATING AGAIN AND GOT UP TO LIKE 70 BEFORE I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. IF SOMEONE ELSE WAS DRIVING AND DIDN'T THINK TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS.
"SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" IN A PRIVATE PARKING. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE DRIVER WAS ABOUT TO PARK THE CAR ON FEB 27, 2017. I WAS THE DRIVER AND MY HUSBAND WAS A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE BACK SEAT, WITH SEAT BELTS ON. AFTER I ENTERED THE PARKING AREA, AS I WAS ABOUT TO PARK, THE CAR ABRUPTLY SPED UP, CRASHED INTO THE BUILDING AHEAD OF ME, AND THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED. THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THE BUILDING WALL WERE DAMAGED (PHOTOS ARE ENCLOSED). ALL THIS HAPPENED SO SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. SEVERAL PEOPLE FROM INSIDE THE BUILDING RUSHED OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS VISIBLY SHAKEN AND QUITE FRIGHTENED BY THIS ACCIDENT. THE BUSINESS OFFICE STAFF TOOK PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGED WALL AND THE VEHICLE. MY TWO THUMBS WERE ACHING WITH MINOR BURN, BUT SINCE THERE WAS NO OTHER OBVIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY TO US, WE DECLINED THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE. STATE POLICE TROOPER CAME, TOOK SOME INFORMATION BUT SAID THAT BECAUSE THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN A PRIVATE PROPERTY IT WILL NOT BE REPORTED. I HAD NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING LIKE THIS ACCIDENT COULD EVER HAPPEN. I GOOGLED AND FOUND CASES IN WHICH UNINTENDED SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED. HASN'T THIS SAFETY ISSUE BEEN ADDRESSED? MY HUSBAND I ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR KEPT UP THE SAME SPEED. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IT DID NOT SLOW THE CAR. I DOWNSHIFTED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FIRST GEAR YET WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE CAR. I FINALLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO GO THROUGH A RED LIGHT AND FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO CROSS TRAFFIC. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN THIS INCIDENT BUT THERE WERE FOUR OF US IN THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILURE. IT IS NOW REPAIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE DRIVER STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE VEHICLE IDLED AT A HIGH SPEED. THE DRIVER HAD TO APPLY EXTRA PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. DURING THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 167,000.
AUTO EXPERIENCED "STICKY ACCELERATOR"/"SUDDEN ACCELERATION" PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN ENGINE COLD. NECESSARY TO APPLY EXCESS PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR TO GET CAR ROLLING FROM STATIONARY. IN ONE INCIDENT, CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED PUSHING THE WHEEL OVER A PARKING SPACE WHEEL STOP AND INTO A FENCE POST CAUSING MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. LOCAL SAN JOSE, CA HONDA DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND CLAIMED IT COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM.

MY BROTHER WAS DRIVING OUR CAR ON THE 278-BQE IN BROOKLYN, NY. THE RPM ON THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT TO 7000 RPM AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND IT ENDED STOPPING ON THE EXPRESS LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. HE HAD THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON BUT CARS WERE STILL COMING AT 60-70 MPH, MANY BARELY MISSING THE CAR AS THEY SWERVED INTO THE NEXT LANE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND THOUGH THE CAR ONLY HAS 78K MILES ON IT, HE SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS DEAD. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS IN ORDER IN TERMS OF FLUIDS. I TOOK A LOOK AT CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND THERE ARE 43 COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT ISSUES OF 2005 HONDA ACCORD OWNERS WITH 60-80K MILES ON THEIR CAR. *TR

SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COMES ON AND IT INDICATES THAT THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE I BROUGHT THE CAR A MONTH AGO AND IT ONLY HAS 64K ON IT. MY EXPERIENCES WITH THIS CODE ARE BUCKING AND JERKING OF THE CAR IDLING SURGES SUDDEN STALLING HESITATION WHILE DRIVING AND A SUDDEN SURGE IN SPEED WHILE DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY ALSO MY FUEL DROPS DRASTICALLY. 2005 HONDA ACCORD 4 DR SDN ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK AND I HAD TO HIT GARAGE DOOR TO STOP THE CAR AND THE CAR WENT THROUGH GARAGE DOOR DAMAGED CAR AND THINGS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A BIG PROBLEM WITH HONDA 2005 BRAKES. I CONTACTED METLIFE INSURANCE COMPANY AND GAVE THE CAR FOR REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SURGED AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE TWO FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG BURNED THE DRIVER'S HAND. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 55,000. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED A POLICE REPORT AND A COPY OF THE REPAIR INVOICE. UPDATED 08/27/07 *TR
I FEEL THAT THE COLD IDLE RPM ON OUR CAR IS SET TOO HIGH AND CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH WHEN PUT IN GEAR FOLLOWING A COLD START. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH SAY THAT THE COLD RPM SETTING ON MY CAR IS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THERE HAS BEEN NO FAILURE OR INCIDENT OR CONSEQUENCES, BUT I FEEL THAT UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS SUCH AS A COLD START ON AN ICY DRIVEWAY WITH AN INEXPERIENCED OR ELDERLY DRIVER, THERE MAY WELL BE A FAILURE/INCIDENT/CONSEQUENCE. *JB
I WAS TRYING TO MANEUVER THROUGH A CROWDED GAS STATION AND HAD BACKED UP. WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE, IT LURCHED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. PRESSING THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD HAD NO EFFECT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS TO HIT SOMETHING (WHICH ENDED UP BEING CARS STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT, BUT IT COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN A GAS PUMP, PEDESTRIAN OR PERSONAL PROPERTY). MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AND IS IN THE BODY SHOP NOW. I WILL HAVE HONDA INVESTIGATE THE ENGINE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 75 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT AS BRAKING AND ACELERATING AT THE SAME TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER. WHILEPULLED OVER THE CONSUEMR TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ONE MINUTE, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE BEING PULLED OVER THE IOL AND ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. THE CONSUEMR ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE OFF BUT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PERFOR ERRATICALLY AGIAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN FOR ANOTHER MODEL. UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
THIS VEHICLE LURCHED TOWARD AND ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. WE HAVE PHOTOS SHOWING THE TIRE IMPRINTS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR UP UNTIL IT IMPACTED WITH THE HOUSE. *JB
2005 HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED COLD ENGINE START AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. *MR AT START UP THE ENGINE WOULD RUN AT 1500 RPM. WHEN PLACED IN GEAR WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE RPM WOULD DROP TO 1000. UPON RELEASE OF THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO ROLL AS NORMALLY EXPECTED FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND THEN THE RPM WOULD SUDDENLY JUMP TO 1500 AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES IMMEDIATELY TO 10MPH OR LESS. HONDA SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. *SC *JB
DEFECT IN COLD START IDLE CONTROL OF THE 2005 HONDA ACCORD 4 CYLINDER ENGINE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY A SECOND OR TWO AFTER YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. *AK
