Open Safety Recalls (3)
NHTSA Campaign: 23V440000
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM)
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Fusion PHEV vehicles. The battery energy control module (BECM) may become damaged due to excessive voltage and current flow.
Risk: A damaged BECM can result in a loss of drive power or fire, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Fix: Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Dealers will replace the battery and update the BECM software for free, or Ford will repurchase the vehicle. If your vehicle is currently operating normally, Ford has authorized dealers to replace the fuse block and a software update as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor). As an alternative remedy, Ford is offering a vehicle refund. Please see Ford's owner notification letter or contact Ford for full details. Owner notification letters were mailed May 15, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S33.
NHTSA Campaign: 25V442000
Component: BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARE
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, MKX, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.
Risk: A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle. A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will update the rearview camera software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S72.
NHTSA Campaign: 25V685000
Component: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:ENGINE BLOCK HEATER
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC, 2016-2023 Explorer, 2019-2020 Fusion, 2019-2024 Ranger, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, Escape, 2021-2024 Bronco, Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
Risk: An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Fix: Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed December 3, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated September 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25SA4. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 15, 2025.

After a routine oil change in October 2025, your vehicle began leaking fluid and making loud knocking noises with significant vibration, especially during acceleration. A technician discovered a cracked flex plate (the component that connects your engine to the transmission), which can cause severe vibration, damage other parts, and potentially leave you unable to drive. The dealer confirmed the flex plate was cracked but denied a warranty claim, and the repair remains incomplete due to cost and safety concerns. Fixing this will require replacing the flex plate, which involves removing the transmission from the engine.

Your car is making a loud noise when you're not pressing the accelerator, and a mechanic diagnosed it as a cracked flex plate—a known issue in Ford vehicles that Ford has offered free repairs for under warranty. However, the dealer refused to cover the repair because your car has a salvage title, even though the car is under 90,000 miles and the flex plate failure is a manufacturing defect. A cracked flex plate repair typically involves removing the transmission to access and replace the flex plate component.

Your car's head gasket is failing, causing it to break down unexpectedly with smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. Your service center has confirmed this is happening to multiple 2020 Ford Fusions right now, suggesting this may be a widespread issue with this model year. There were no warning signs before the failure occurred. Fixing this will require your service center to remove the cylinder head and replace the failed gasket.

Your car is making a rattling sound while idling, especially when the air conditioning is on. A Ford dealership diagnosed this as a cracked engine flex plate requiring a $3,000 repair at 45,000 miles. You discovered Ford has a customer satisfaction program (22N12) for this exact issue, but the dealership says it only covers the 2.0L engine in your car, not your 1.5L engine. The repair typically involves removing and replacing the cracked flex plate.

Electrical System,structure,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your 2020 Ford Fusion PHEV experienced a sudden engine failure followed by smoke and fire coming from the high-voltage battery pack in the trunk, with no warning signs beforehand. The vehicle was previously sold at auction without disclosure of an active safety recall (NHTSA 23V440) issued in June 2023 for this exact issue. The fire caused damage to the vehicle and the owner experienced respiratory distress from exposure to fire extinguisher chemicals. Addressing this issue will require a complete battery pack replacement and electrical system inspection by a Ford dealer authorized to perform the recall remedy.

Unknown Or Other,engine,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car's purge solenoid—part of the fuel system—keeps becoming unplugged, which prevents your engine from starting after you fill up with gas. This causes your check engine light to come on repeatedly, and mechanics have to plug it back in each time you visit. The issue is related to the evaporative emission control system, which is supposed to manage fuel vapor. Fixing this will likely involve inspecting the solenoid connection and wiring, and possibly replacing the solenoid or related connectors if they're damaged.

Seat Belts →1 issue
Your seat belt buckle isn't locking properly, so the belt can slip out even after you've fastened it. You have to manually check and hold the belt in place before driving to make sure it stays secured. The buckle mechanism needs to be repaired or replaced to ensure your seat belt functions as intended.

Power Train,electrical System →1 issue
Your 2020 Ford Fusion has been triggering a powertrain diagnostic code repeatedly, but the dealership kept clearing it without finding an issue during warranty visits. Now that your warranty has expired, actual problems are appearing that you had been reporting earlier. The dealership may need to diagnose the underlying cause instead of just clearing the code each time.
