FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 EDGE AND LINCOLN MKX VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 8, 2010. THESE VEHICLES WERE SHIPPED WITH INCORRECTLY CONFIGURED ELECTRONIC MODULE SETTINGS THAT DISABLE THE LOCKING FUNCTION OF THE LIFTGATE. ACCORDINGLY, THE VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 206, "DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS."
Fix: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL HAVE THE AFFECTED CONTROL MODULES UPDATED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 1, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the “Driver's Door Ajar” warning light was illuminated even though the door was securely closed and locked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the door latch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that approximately one year later, the failure reoccurred with the passenger’s side door. The warning light caused the interior light to remain illuminated and the alarm to activate intermittently. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the door latch on the passenger’s side door had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after closing the front driver's side door, the "Door Ajar" message was displayed, and the interior lights remained illuminated. The contact was concerned that the front driver's side door might open while driving. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. MY DOOR LOCKS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED MODEL ARE MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN YOU TRY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR EITHER WITH THE TOUCH DOOR SENSORS OR THE REMOTE, THE LOCKS SOUNDS LIKE A MACHINE GUN. ALSO, SOMETIMES THE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK. WHEN FORD WENT IN TO REPLACE THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THEY FOUND OUT MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IS STARTING TO CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM UP, SO THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR AT LEAST A WEEK NOW WAITING ON THE GLASS, WHICH IS APPARENTLY AN ISSUE THAT IS OCCURRING ON ALL OF THESE FORD EDGE VEHICLES. *TR
