FireFiled: Mar 2026

While driving at 45 mph with your daughter, you noticed black smoke coming from the driver and passenger side vents with no warning light on the dashboard. After you and your daughter exited the vehicle, the car caught fire and exploded with flames coming from the engine. The fire department extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was destroyed. The issue likely stems from an engine or fuel system malfunction that caused overheating and ignition.

Power Train,service Brakes1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Nov 2024

Your brakes suddenly started making a loud hissing noise and nearly failed to stop the vehicle, almost causing an accident at an intersection with no warning beforehand. The dealership identified that your power brake booster, hydraulic control unit, and master cylinder all need replacement. Additionally, your transmission shakes when climbing hills or driving on the interstate without any warning lights. These issues likely require replacing the brake booster assembly and transmission components, or having them professionally inspected and repaired.

Unknown Or Other,engine1 issue
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
Filed: Oct 2024

Shortly after purchasing your 2007 Ford Edge, multiple warning lights appeared (tire pressure, battery, and check engine), then disappeared when you turned off the car. Two days later, the car failed to start and wouldn't restart for several hours. While driving, white smoke came from the rear of the vehicle, and you noticed oil leaking out. The engine eventually died completely on the road and wouldn't restart, with all the oil having drained from the engine due to a hole in the engine block. The repair will likely require engine replacement or a complete engine rebuild.

Electrical System,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Nov 2023

Your accelerator pedal suddenly collapsed to the floor while you were driving, though the engine kept running and a wrench warning appeared on your dashboard. After towing to a service station, the pedal worked normally again, but two separate diagnostic procedures—including one at a Ford dealership—found no error codes or problems. The issue may involve the electronic throttle control system or pedal position sensor, which may need inspection or replacement to ensure the problem doesn't happen again.

Filed: Oct 2023

Your alternator is drawing too much electrical power and draining your new batteries, which causes your digital dashboard to shut off and triggers false warning lights for brake system and suspension failures. Your transmission jerks when shifting despite having full fluid levels, and you're concerned about a recall that was supposed to be completed but apparently wasn't. Because of the electrical drain risk and unaddressed recall, you're worried about potential fire and safety issues, especially with grandchildren regularly riding in the vehicle. The fix will likely involve a full electrical system diagnostic to test the alternator output, inspection of the transmission for internal issues, and completion of any outstanding recalls.

NHTSA #: 11549918
Steering1 issue
criticalSTEERING
Filed: Aug 2023

The lower control arm on the front passenger side of your steering system cracked at the ball joint, which is the connection point that allows your wheel to move. This type of failure could cause you to lose control of your vehicle while driving. The control arm will need to be replaced to restore proper steering function.

Fuel/propulsion System1 issue
highFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Mar 2026

Your 2007 Ford Edge's fuel tank is leaking at two corners on the driver's side due to corrosion, which matches safety recall 14S22. When you took it to the dealership, they refused to inspect it under recall coverage because your VIN didn't show the recall in their system, and asked you to pay $258 for one hour of shop time to look at it. The repair will likely involve inspecting the fuel tank for corrosion damage and either sealing the leak or replacing the fuel tank.

Steering,suspension1 issue
highSTEERING,SUSPENSION
Filed: Oct 2025

The left side lower control arm has rusted through where it connects to the frame, and the right side is starting to separate due to rust as well. This is a serious suspension issue that affects your car's steering and handling. The fix will involve replacing the rusted control arm mounting points, which may require frame repair or replacement of the affected components.

highENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Filed: Jul 2024

Your check engine light is staying on, and you're noticing coolant leaking from the radiator area. The water pump has been identified as the problem and needs replacement—this is the third time this part has failed on your vehicle. Without a working water pump, your engine can overheat, so this repair should be done soon.

Filed: Apr 2024

Your brake lights stopped working while you were driving at 60 MPH. You took your car to a mechanic four times, and they replaced the housing, LED conversion, tail light bulb, socket, and connector, but the brake lights kept failing. The fix may require replacing the entire tail light assembly, wiring harness, or having the electrical connections professionally diagnosed and rewired.

Filed: Jul 2023

Your brake pedal feels unusually hard to press, and you sometimes hear a hissing or whistling noise coming from the brake area. A mechanic diagnosed a faulty brake power booster, which is subject to a recall, but your vehicle wasn't included in that recall. The brake power booster likely needs to be replaced to restore normal pedal feel and eliminate the noise.

NHTSA #: 11535576
Power Train,engine1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE
Filed: Jun 2023

Your 2007 Ford Edge is making an abnormal humming sound from the engine when you try to accelerate, and it's not responding immediately when you press the gas pedal. The transmission occasionally fails to shift into the correct gear, causing the engine to stall, and after restarting, the vehicle enters a reduced-power "limp mode." The dealer was unable to reproduce the problem, so it remains unrepaired. A repair may involve transmission fluid service, transmission control module diagnostics, or internal transmission component inspection.

NHTSA #: 11526753
Electrical System1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Apr 2023

While driving, your vehicle suddenly stopped responding when you pressed the gas pedal and wouldn't accelerate. This could indicate an electrical issue with the throttle system or related components. The repair may involve diagnosing the throttle control system, checking electrical connections, or replacing a faulty throttle sensor or module.
