2017 Dodge Journey Electrical Problems

Initially, the component that was failing was the rear wiper blade. The wiper blade would not perform a proper rotation. It wouldn’t move at all when I would turn the switch, but anytime the car was unlocked or locked.

In April 2025 I was driving and the ABS light came on and windshield wipers went off sporadically. Dodge dealer found nothing wrong. It happened again in June 2025.

Didn’t get into accident but a couple months ago my car wouldn’t start , wouldn’t try to the lights wouldn’t come on nothing. Someone cleaned battery terminal it started . Now randomly sometimes it won’t start it will try but won’t so I put it neutral and barley push it toward put it back in park then it will start .

Pull over police officer stated said lights are to dim to be driving at night told me I need to have my lights checked out. While driving about 60- 62 MPH the vehicle just shut down without warning trying push the accelerator it would not go no further stuck on interstate with emergency blinkers if could of cause bad accident or someone could of hit me without warning.

The actuator for cabin air engages when vehicle is completely off. This is due to a short in the electrical system, causing the actuator to function when power is directly applied. This could cause the electrical system to overheat and cause a fire.

The contact owned a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the instrument panel began to behave erratically, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power, prompting her to attempt to quickly veer to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle shuts off while driving. It has occurred 6 times over the course of a year. It results in a total loss of power, steering, brakes creating a very unsafe scenario.

The car lost power and wouldn't speed up. Could have been rear ended. We had the ABS light come on,the traction control light on, the air bag light on and a few more I didn't recognize they came on and went out so fast.

I was driving and I smelled smoke, saw smoke coming from my center console. I turned and looked the backside of my center console was on fire.

Several lights came on the dashboard including the electronic traction control and the electronic throttle control causing the vehicle to completely stole on the freeway with no power and could only go 25 MPH. This along with repeatedly accelerating as I was trying to stop caused nearly an accident .

As my husband was driving for work for the census, the engine light and the message notification envelope both appeared on the dash screen they flashed on once flashed off and flames blew out from both front wheels wells.

The vehicle wouldn’t start, just kept idolizing. After trying for 10 minutes then getting a new key battery, the vehicle started then engine light was on. A code for crankshaft was on.

The battery and alternator were replaced and ever since have had issues with the electrical issues. Check engine light randomly comes on, voltage lightning bolt will appear and car will not turn over, battery light has come on while driving. I have been stuck at the store and car has no power.

I am so not happy with Jacob Conlon who works at Mitsubishi in La porte. I realized that he was playing with me all the time and that he never repaired my SUV until I found out from Danny who works at Dodge. I dropped it off at service and picked it up more than 5 times because Jacob never repair it

Back up camera on the dash gose black when vehicle is in reverse which violation of motor vehicle standard for operation called dealer no recalls on my 17 but for 18 and up

In the midst of driving the red electric lightning bolt signal started flashing, seconds later the non-slippery signal came on and then the car started shaking/rattling. The gas pedal became hard to press and my car started slowing down in the middle of the street, forcing me to put the car in park in the middle of the street with my hazard lights on and turning the car off.

Alternator/Battery issue Alternator replaced 3 times Not charging causing battery today Electrical issue cannot be diagnosed Vehicle shut off while going 65 on highway. Loss of power steering/braking function. Car accelerated by itself.

The headlights have condensation inside them. I had them replaced in December of 2019 as were under warranty at the time. Two and a half years later, I noticed I’m having the same issue as before.

This is the second dodge journey now that I have owned and both of them have electrical problems with the back tail lights as well as the rear windshield wipers left tail light and both of my vehicles. Also with my second dodge journey with both of the cars I have transmission problems as well and I also have airbag warning always going off of my card when I make turns.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, A RED BATTERY IMAGE DISPLAYED ON THE MENU CENTER SCREEN.NEXT DAY HAD IT CHECKED, WAS TOLD ALL WAS FINE,EVERYTHING CHECK OUT..A WEEK LATER WAS ON FREEWAYAGAIN,HEADLIGHTS FLICKED, RADIO WENT DEAD(DISPLAY &SOUND) TWICE, ENGINE BOGGED DOWN BRIEFLY. CAR IS IN SHOP NOW..TWO DAYS.AND NO ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS..THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A WELL-DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE..HAS THIS CAUSED DEATH? WILL IT LEAD TO DEATH, YES, IS THERE HELP FOR THE CONSUMERS?? I'M AWARE OF NUMEROUS ELECTRONICAL PROBLEMS WITH THESE AND OTHER DODGE VEHICLES. AS I HAVE OWNED ONE IN THE PAST WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THAT COST ME THOUSANDS , AND COULD NOT BE FIXED, EVEN BY A TECH FROM CORPORATE OUT OF STATE..NOW WITH MY CURRENT SITUATION HOW CAN I BE CONFIDENT ON THE ROAD? ALSO WHY, WHEN THE DEALERSHIP KNOW(FOR A FACT) THEIR VEHICLES HAVE THESE ISSUES. THEY CHARGE A $180.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE, THAT CAN NOT BE APPLIED TO REPAIR..UNFAIR AND CRIMINAL TO PUT VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THEY KNOW ARE FAULTY..FAULTY AS IN ELECTRONIC ISSUES THAT NO ONE CAN PINPOINT..AND IT APPEARS THAT IF THEY THROW ENOUGH PARTS AT IT, MAYBE THAT WILL WORK...THESE ISSUES MUST STOP!!

FIRST IT WAS ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD WOULD STAY ON. MY USB AND CHARGING PORTS WOULD GO OUT. EVERY ONCE IN WHILE MY DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER WOULD RANDOMLY START DOUBLING MY SPEED. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY APPARENTLY REPLACED THE PART NEEDED. THAT SEEMED TO FIX THAT PROBLEM AT LEAST FOR NOW. BUT NOW THE SPEEDOMETER HERE AND THERE WILL ACT UP AGAIN. WHEN IT DOES , IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE ENGINE IS WORKING AGAINST ME TO GO. IT FEELS LIKE IT TRIES TO STOP ME WHEN I AM PRESSING THE GAS TO GO. IT DOES NOT DO THIS ALL THE TIME. BUT IT IS MORE FREQUENT THAN USUAL. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE A LITTLE LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. IT STARTED OFF WITH MINOR THINGS , BUT NOW SEEMS TO BE TURNING FOR THE WORSE. I AM CONCERNED OF IT GO OUT ALL TOGETHER COMPLETELY.DEALERSHIP WE WENT TO MADE IT SEEM LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. BUT BEING A DAILY DRIVING I KNOW OTHERWISE.

AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR A FEW DAYS. AFTER A FEW DAYS THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AND IT THEN IT COME BACK ON. WHEN IT DOES LIGHT UP IT DINGS. THE A/C AUTOMATICALLY TURNS ON AFTER I TURN IT OFF AND THE TOUCHSCREEN STARTS TO FLICKER WHEN THAT HAPPENS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 2/18/2020

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY GT. STATED 500 MILES OUT OF 36,000 MILE WARRANTY THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN CHECKED BY A MECHANIC IT HAD THE FOLLOWING ERROR CODE, B1C29, LEFT SIDE SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO REPAIR AS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE LIGHT FIRST APPEARED INTERMITTENTLY UPON IGNITION BUT NOW REMAINS ON WHENEVER THE CAR IS STARTED AND RUNNING. A WIRE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED *DT*TP

THE AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING OR ONCE THE CAR IS STARTED. IT WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN GO OFF. WHEN IT COMES ON WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVING IT WILL DING AND STAY ON FOR DAYS. THE AIR CONDITIONER/ HEATER JUMPS ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL BE OFF AND AUTOMATICALLY JUMP ON. I WILL TURN IT OFF AND THEN IT WILL JUMP ON AGAIN. THESE ISSUES WERE "FIXED" BY A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN MAY AND ARE STILL REOCCURRING.

MY 2017 JOURNEY WAS MANUFACTURED IN AUGUST OF 2016 DODGE HAS A RECALL FOR JOURNEYS FOR CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS FOR JOURNEYS THAT WERE MADE FROM MAY OF 2016 TO JULY 2016 MY CAR HAS BEEN STALLING OUT SINCE 40,000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE UPON RESEARCH THIS MAY BE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLANTS ONLINE STATING OTHERS CARS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS SENSOR BUT DODGE ONLY DID A LIMITED RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES. MY CAR JERKS 3-4 TIMES WHEN IN REVERSE THEN STALLS OUT OR IT JERKS 3-4 TIMES AND STALLS AT STOP LIGHTS OR SIGNS. OTHER ONLINE COMPLAINTS IVE SEEN STATE THAT PEOPLE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH IT ALSO STOPPING MID DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS.

MY 2017 DODGE JOURNEY KEEPS GOING THROUGH BATTERIES. 1ST ONE AT APRIL 2018. 2ND ONE JAN 2020. DEALERSHIP JUST KEEPS PUT BATTERIES IN . NOT FIXING PROBLEM. ON DODGE FORUM OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEMS.

AFTER 65,500 MILES, MY TWO YEAR OLD DODGE JOURNEY HAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE HYDRAULIC PUMP BLEW AND CAUSED COMPLETE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION COSTING ME $3500 TO GET THE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. IT'S RIDICULOUS THIS IS HAPPENING TO A 2 YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY 65K MILES ON IT

Sitting or driving AC not cooling sitting or driving gas level drastically dropping to zero then spike mte, taken to dealership multiple times and not duplicated. Drove this morning and mte spiked and zeroed out again while driving. Transmission shifting hard and grinding noises overall electrical issues based on dealership explanation and issues could not be duplicated.

The electrical system keeps failing. The front windows the radio AC and power lock and doors glitch on and off. This is daily to put where the radio and AC will not stay on for more than 30 seconds.

I bought my 2017 dodge journey new in 2017 about 2mouths ago I start having problems with my windows now going up or down , I bought a new window switch and still didn’t work .I notice broken wires in the driver side wire harness,I believe this s a safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately thanks .

My AC or radio will turn on when ever it wants. I can turn my stuff off up to 18 times in a day. I have no control over my units front or back.

The lights on the interior are coming on by them self, I believe the problem lies in the rear wire harnesses. My car only has 31000 miles

Light has been illuminating every few days, it will ding when it comes on then stay lit for several days. Not sure if the wiring under my passenger seat is loose or whats going on.

ABS light and cruise control stay on and it not working. Doing my research there is a cruise control recall for 2014 and 2018, but our car was never recall.

There have been several occasions where my headlights and tail lights have went out while I was driving and I got pulled over the other night for no headlights or tail lights for it being a hazard. I work night shifts and I need my headlights and tail lights unless I am in a dimly light area and I dont know of they are on or not and I dont get no warning of when they are off.

There bag light has come on at about 35,000 miles and has not went off. The a/c and heat keeps coming on whenever it wants no matter how many times I turn it off I have went up to dodge multiple times and nothing has happened as I am over the 30,000 miles and to be charged 200 just to see what the problem is and then charge me even to fix it is ridiculous.

I had my journey parked in the driveway, grabbed my purse and my daughter and, headed out to run errands. I drove to my destination, turned off the car and went to lock it from the outside door handle. There were no beeps and the doors wouldn't lock.
