NHTSA Campaign: 18V332000

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Dodge Charger pursuit police vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive and V8 engines. The front driveshaft universal joint may seize or fracture causing the shaft to detach from the vehicle.

Risk: If the front driveshaft detaches from the vehicle it may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driveshaft, free of charge. The recall began June 27, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U37.

Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). The front driveshaft bolts may loosen and allow the front driveshaft to disconnect, potentially causing a loss of motive power.

Risk: A loss of motive power can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace all eight front driveshaft bolts, free of charge. The recall began April 7, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T03.

NHTSA Campaign: 17V496000

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Dodge Challenger and Charger vehicles equipped with Hellcat engines. The engine oil cooler (EOC) hoses may fail resulting in a rapid loss of engine oil.

Risk: If an EOC line fails, oil may spray onto the windshield or contact a hot surface, impairing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash or fire.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EOC lines, free of charge. The recall began October 3, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T48.

Your transmission completely failed while driving, with the check engine light coming on and the transmission stuck in 2nd gear. You noticed a burning smell, and the dealership found the transmission fluid had overheated and burned. After the warranty company installed a used transmission, the same problem happened again just 2,000 miles later. The fix will likely involve a complete transmission replacement or rebuild, though recurring failures suggest an underlying cooling or design issue may need to be addressed.

Your car displayed a "service shifter" warning light, followed by a ticking noise from the clutch that eventually stopped. Days later, your car shut off unexpectedly in the middle of the road, with the lights and windshield wipers turning on by themselves, and the engine wouldn't crank. After a $1,038 repair at the dealership, the same warning reappeared within days, and this pattern repeated multiple times over 8 months. Most recently, after another shifter replacement attempt, your car won't crank or start at all. The fix likely involves diagnosing and repairing or replacing the transmission shifter assembly and checking for related electrical issues.

Your touchscreen is malfunctioning and activating controls on its own — it's turning on the heated seats and won't let you turn them off, changing climate settings while you drive, switching radio stations, and even pressing the emergency call button without your input. What started as a small dead spot on the screen has gotten progressively worse and is now a safety concern since it's changing settings while you're driving. The fix will likely require a touchscreen replacement or software update from the dealership, though Dodge has indicated they may not cover the repair under warranty.

You discovered after purchasing your 2017 Dodge Charger that the odometer reading was incorrect. The seller claimed the vehicle had 90,000 miles, but you later found out it actually had 145,000 miles. This is odometer fraud, a serious issue that affects the vehicle's true wear history and value.

Your instrument cluster (dashboard display) is malfunctioning and acting on its own — it's changing radio stations, making phone calls, and switching between icons without you touching anything. This problem keeps happening repeatedly. The issue started around 68,000 miles. The dealer or a mechanic hasn't diagnosed or fixed it yet. Fixing this will likely require the instrument cluster to be repaired or replaced by a technician.

While driving on the highway, your car began shaking and jerking, losing power. A diagnostic scan showed a misfire in cylinder 4, likely related to a spark plug or ignition coil. This happened shortly after the dealer performed a tune-up that included new spark plugs, and despite returning the same day to report the problem, the dealer said nothing was wrong. You're concerned about safety and have parked the car rather than drive it.

Your engine developed a ticking sound around 74,000 miles that gradually worsened into a loud rattling noise accompanied by thumping. You're also experiencing occasional hard shifts, and the exhaust has gaps in its sound. The issue may indicate internal engine damage that needs professional diagnosis to prevent further deterioration.

Your front door panels (both driver and passenger sides) are separating from the door frames, which is causing the door locks to malfunction and the doors won't stay properly secured. This problem started during your second year of ownership and has been getting worse over time. The fix will likely involve having a technician reattach or replace the door panel components and inspect the locking mechanism hardware.

You noticed that three of your interior door panels have separated from the window frames while your car was parked. The dealer told you the sun melted the seams holding them together. Unfortunately, your vehicle is not under warranty, so the manufacturer won't cover the repair.

Your engine overheated while driving, causing the temperature gauge to spike. You let the engine cool down, added coolant, and were able to drive to your destination. An independent mechanic diagnosed the problem but didn't repair it. The issue occurred at around 103,208 miles. A mechanic will need to identify the cause of the overheating—which could be a failing thermostat, water pump, radiator issue, or coolant leak—and repair or replace the faulty component.

Your 2017 Hellcat Charger experienced rapid engine oil loss due to failed oil cooling hoses—the same problem that triggered a recall for certain 2017 Hellcat models. However, your vehicle wasn't included in that recall, so the dealer is refusing to repair it at no cost. You believe the manufacturer should cover the repair since it's the same defect they recalled in other identical vehicles.

Your car is showing multiple warning lights for the ABS and traction control systems, and you've experienced a complete loss of braking while driving, along with severe shaking when braking. The vehicle has also shut down completely and become stuck in park, and there's a recurring "service shifter" message appearing constantly. These electrical and brake system failures have been confirmed by dealers across 32 days of repairs, and fixing this will likely require diagnosing the electrical bus power system, rewiring under the console, and servicing the brake and shifter systems.

After your transmission was repaired at the dealership in July 2024, your vehicle started having serious problems: the transmission slips and shifts unproperly (especially in reverse), oil is leaking onto the transmission housing, and the engine mount is loose. These issues make the vehicle unsafe to drive because it may not shift when you need it to, could stall while driving, and shows signs of transmission failure. The dealership dismissed your concerns when you reported the problems immediately after the service.

Your 2017 Dodge Charger is experiencing multiple serious safety issues including unexpected braking at highway speeds (75 mph), failure to accelerate, sudden stalling, and a completely dark dashboard display. The backup camera has also stopped working. Despite multiple battery replacements and dealer visits, these problems persist on a vehicle with only 23,000 miles, suggesting a manufacturing defect rather than normal wear. These issues will likely require comprehensive electrical system diagnostics and possible replacement of faulty control modules or wiring.

Your car has three separate issues: the front passenger door panel is coming loose and detaching from the door, the infotainment screen is peeling apart and the touchscreen is activating vehicle functions on its own without you touching it, and your engine is leaking oil from a faulty O-ring seal. The oil leak was confirmed by a mechanic who recommended replacing the O-ring, but you haven't had it repaired yet due to cost.
