Risk: These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. These inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling. An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM owners. Mitsubishi owners will be notified by their company. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S43. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-7700.

Filed: Feb 2024

After filling up with gas, your car stalled three times within 30 minutes — while turning, at a red light, and while idling in your driveway. When the engine stalled during the turn, your power steering locked up, which nearly caused a crash. The stalling and loss of power steering creates a serious safety hazard. A mechanic should inspect your fuel system, ignition system, and engine sensors to identify why the engine is shutting off unexpectedly.

Your car is stalling out shortly after you fill up the gas tank, and when it happens, you lose control of where the vehicle is going. This problem is occurring more frequently and has put you in dangerous situations, nearly causing a rear-end collision. The issue likely involves the fuel system or engine control components and may require diagnostic testing to identify the root cause.

NHTSA #: 11564281

After filling your gas tank completely, your car's engine starts to misfire and stall, especially when stopped at a red light. However, if you don't fill the tank all the way, the car runs normally without any problems. The issue appears to be triggered only when the fuel tank is completely full.

NHTSA #: 11689604

Filed: Jun 2024

After you fill up your gas tank, your car may stall and shut off while driving, forcing you to pull over and restart it multiple times. This happens because fuel is leaking from the tank into the emission system instead of staying in the fuel tank, causing the engine to run too rich and shut down. The issue may involve a stuck valve in the fuel system that needs to be repaired or replaced.

Your car stalls shortly after you refuel and start driving on the highway, which almost caused you to be rear-ended. The stalling started about 12 months ago despite the car having only 65,000 miles. You've found that Dodge was aware of this issue but you didn't receive a recall notice for your vehicle.

NHTSA #: 11578560

Your car sputters and shuts off when you fill it with gasoline. You've had to replace the fuel pump and fuel transfer unit multiple times over your ownership period, with the most recent replacement done less than a year ago. This recurring issue is costing you significant money in repairs. The shop will need to diagnose why these components keep failing prematurely.

NHTSA #: 11573272

Your fuel tank has a persistent issue that started several years ago. When you fill up the gas tank or add just a little fuel, your car sputters or shuts off, even though no check engine light appears. You've already replaced many fuel system components without solving the problem, and your vehicle's VIN isn't included in any recall even though you've found similar complaints from other owners of this year/model. The fix will likely require a fuel tank inspection or replacement to identify what's causing the fuel delivery problem.

NHTSA #: 11560064

Your car shuts off about half a mile after you fill up with gas, causing you to lose power steering. When you restart it, the same thing happens again after another half mile. This suggests a fuel system problem that's causing the engine to stall repeatedly.

Filed: Apr 2024

You discovered that your vehicle's recall history shows an airbag repair was completed, but you've owned the car for 7 years and know this repair was never actually performed on your vehicle. This means your airbags may not have the necessary safety updates or fixes that the recall was intended to address.

After having an airbag recall procedure performed at your dealership, you discovered that the passenger-side airbag was only fastened with 2 screws instead of the 4 it was designed to use — the extra screw was loose in the blower. You believe the service technician failed to properly complete the recall work, which could affect the airbag's ability to deploy safely in a crash. The dealership and manufacturer refused to reinspect or correct the work at no charge, claiming you'd need to pay for an independent inspection elsewhere. Proper repair would involve removing and reinstalling the passenger airbag with all four mounting screws correctly fastened.

Your driver's side airbag deployed unexpectedly while you were slowly backing out of a parking spot at very low speed, with no collision involved. Your left hand was slightly injured and your front passenger experienced ringing in their ears from the airbag deployment. If this had happened at highway speeds, it could have caused a serious accident. The airbag had been replaced as part of a Takata recall in 2017/2018, but the vehicle's diagnostic data couldn't be fully retrieved to determine why it deployed.

While your car was parked, both the driver and passenger airbags deployed on their own without any crash or impact. You notified the dealer about this, but the vehicle was not repaired. This issue may be related to two known airbag safety recalls for your vehicle model.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2023

Your car's PCM (the computer that controls the engine) failed suddenly, causing your vehicle to shut down without warning while driving. This left you stranded in traffic with a non-running car. A technician confirmed the PCM was faulty, and you've found this is a common problem with this model. The fix will require replacing the PCM unit.

Your car is stalling at unpredictable times, and the problem is happening more often. You've had it diagnosed at three different shops, which found error codes P0700 (transmission control issue) and U1000 (communication network problem), but none of them could identify the root cause. The stalling is likely related to an electrical or transmission communication problem that requires further diagnostic work to pinpoint.

CrashFiled: Apr 2025

Your brakes suddenly stopped working completely while exiting the highway and approaching a red light, causing you to crash into another vehicle. Your car then rolled backward without braking. You were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital with a concussion. Diagnosing this issue will likely involve a complete brake system inspection to find what caused the sudden failure, which could be a master cylinder problem, brake line rupture, hydraulic fluid leak, or brake pad/rotor failure.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Mar 2025

Your car is stalling unexpectedly while stopped at lights or stop signs, and sometimes jerks like it's about to stall while driving on the highway. This creates a serious safety risk, especially in traffic with larger vehicles behind you. Multiple diagnostic codes are appearing (U0100, P0700, and others), and the problem persists even after replacing the engine control module. The underlying cause appears to be a widespread issue affecting 2006 Dodge Chargers that may require diagnostic testing or replacement of fuel system and ignition components.

highPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE
Filed: Apr 2025

Your car stalls while idling at traffic lights and while driving at various speeds, and sometimes won't restart afterward. The check engine light comes on, and diagnostic scans show error codes U0100 and P0700 related to communication problems between the engine computer (PCM) and transmission computer. The dealer tried updating the engine computer software, but the problem continued. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing the communication link between these two computers, possibly through wiring repairs, connector cleaning, or computer module replacement.

Filed: Mar 2025

Your 2006 Dodge Charger stalls shortly after you refuel and stutters while driving as if it's not receiving fuel properly. The problem happens more frequently when you brake or come to a stop, and the engine can shut down completely, which could be dangerous. This issue has been previously investigated by NHTSA under investigation number PE13-016. A mechanic will need to diagnose the fuel system and engine controls to identify why fuel isn't reaching the engine consistently.

Engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
highENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Nov 2023

Your car's fuel vapor purge valve appears to be stuck open, which may allow fuel to enter the system when you fully refuel. You've experienced stalling while driving and at stops every time you fill up the tank completely, though the dealer hasn't confirmed the issue yet. The problem seems to happen right after refueling without any prior warning signs. A mechanic will need to inspect and likely replace the fuel vapor purge valve to resolve the stalling.

Filed: Jun 2023

Your 2006 Dodge Charger R/T HEMI has experienced repeated transmission failures that required multiple towing trips and replacements. You discovered the transmission is actually a Mercedes-Benz unit rather than a Dodge transmission. The repeated breakdowns have been frustrating and unacceptable. Getting the transmission rebuilt or replaced by a qualified transmission shop may be necessary to resolve the issue.
