Filed: Mar 2016

Your brake pedal isn't responding immediately when you press it — the vehicle hesitates before slowing down, even at low speeds. A mechanic diagnosed that your ABS brake system has failed and both front hub bearing assemblies need replacement. This problem has happened multiple times and is a serious safety concern since you may not be able to stop your vehicle reliably in an emergency.

NHTSA #: 10839688
criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: May 2014

The brake line on the driver's side rear wheel has corroded and failed where it runs along the frame. This means your rear brakes on that side may not work properly or could lose pressure. You'll need to have the corroded brake line replaced with a new one.

NHTSA #: 10594760
criticalSERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Nov 2012

When you started your truck and pressed the brake pedal to put it in reverse, the pedal dropped almost to the floor. You found that the rear brake line was rusty and had failed, leaking brake fluid near the gas tank area. This loss of brake pressure is a serious safety issue that requires immediate replacement of the failed brake line and a complete brake system inspection.

Your Tahoe's ABS (anti-lock braking) system is engaging unexpectedly at low speeds, which makes it take much longer to stop than normal. The brake pedal feels spongy and doesn't respond properly. This issue has caused several near-accidents and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. The problem likely involves ABS system components or brake fluid issues that need professional diagnosis and repair.

CrashFiled: Sep 2008

Your brakes occasionally fail at speeds below 10 mph, even though a mechanic has inspected the car and couldn't identify the cause. This has happened to multiple drivers of the vehicle, and a Chevy dealership says they're unfamiliar with this issue. Your daughter was involved in a minor crash about 2 years ago that may be related. A thorough brake system inspection—including the master cylinder, brake lines, and hydraulic fluid—will be needed to identify and fix the underlying cause.

Filed: Nov 2008

Your steering feels loose at highway speeds, especially when turning slightly—it feels like you've hit ice and the steering wheel jerks unexpectedly, which is frightening. You've already replaced the steering sensor, steering box, and entire front end, but the problem persists. This may require a comprehensive diagnostic to identify the underlying cause, possibly involving the steering column, suspension alignment, or remaining steering components.

At highway speeds, your truck feels like it's hydroplaning or sliding to the right, and you experience a brief sensation of looseness in the steering wheel. The front end has been checked and found to be tight, so the issue may be elsewhere in the steering system. This could involve inspecting the steering column, intermediate shaft, or suspension components that affect steering stability at high speeds.

Filed: Oct 2008

Your steering wheel feels very loose and unresponsive. You discovered this is a known defect after researching online, and contacted Chevrolet and GM about it—but were told there's no recall available for your vehicle. The issue appeared at 115,000 miles. A mechanic will need to inspect and likely replace worn steering components like the steering column, u-joints, or tie rod ends to restore proper steering control.

FireFiled: Mar 2016

Water from rain entered your driver's side window switch after your windows were left down during a storm. Several hours later, while your car was parked and off, the switch assembly caught fire and destroyed the vehicle. The fire appears to have been caused by water damage to the switch's circuit board or internal contacts, which continued to draw power even with the ignition off.

Your Tahoe starts and cranks normally but then shuts off after about 1 second of running. This has been happening for a couple of weeks, and you've found that many other GM owners report the same problem. The issue is making your vehicle unreliable and affecting your ability to get to work on time.

criticalAIR BAGS
CrashFiled: Sep 2012

Your airbags failed to deploy during a crash after the driver experienced a medical event at 40 mph, resulting in the vehicle hitting a ditch and the driver suffering head injuries. The airbag system did not activate when it should have during the collision. The vehicle was severely damaged and towed away. A repair would likely require diagnostic testing of the airbag system and replacement of failed components.

Filed: Jan 2015

While driving at 55 mph on the highway, your Tahoe suddenly pulled to the right. Although all tires were properly inflated to 35 PSI, you heard a rubbing sound from the front right fender area about 20-25 miles later. Shortly after, your front right tire completely separated from the wheel while you were slowing down to stop. The tire was a Primewell Valera HT 235/75-15 that had only been installed a few hundred miles earlier. The issue may involve a defect in the tire itself, a wheel alignment problem, or improper tire installation.

Filed: Jun 2015

Your vehicle failed to start, and you discovered the fuel sending unit wasn't working. When you lowered the fuel tank for inspection, you found that the fuel line running along the frame had completely rusted through and crumbled apart—it was made of unprotected steel tubing. While replacing the fuel lines, you also found the brake line feeding the rear brakes in the same severely rusted condition, also crumbling when removed. Both the fuel and brake lines should have been made from stainless steel or rust-resistant material, especially for vehicles operated in snowy climates. The repair will involve replacing both the corroded fuel supply/return lines and the rear brake line with new tubing.

Your brake light wiring harness is attached to the brake pedal, causing the wires to move every time you press the brakes. This repetitive motion can cause the wires to break over time, which results in your brake lights failing. The wires need to be rerouted or the harness needs to be secured so it doesn't move with the pedal.
