ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac CTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL, and 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Express, Impala, Silverado HD, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Savana, and Sierra HD vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the chassis electronic module may be internally contaminated, resulting in an electrical short.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the chassis electronic module, free of charge. The recall began on December 26, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM’s number for this recall is 14515.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala; and 2013 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles. Originally, in May 2013, GM recalled 1,627 model year 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; and model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles. In October 2013, GM informed the agency that it was adding model year 2013 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles to this campaign , representing an additional 8,050 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 9,677. On the affected vehicles, the brake lamps may intermittently flash without the brakes being applied and the cruise control may disengage. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the body control module. The recall began on June 13, 2013. Owner's may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. GM's recall number is 13158.

The side detection module has just failed out for the second time in under 2 years, 20k miles on my 2014 Impala LTZ. The first time it failed (less than two years ago), the side detection indicator on the mirrors started to go off randomly, and then eventually, I was unable to reliably lock/unlock my car. Eventually, it wouldn't even start/shut off (Push to start), and the entire dash was off even when running. It messed with seemingly the entire car's electrical system, and made it unsafe to drive (imagine if I would've been on the highway and the car shut down, plus I didn't have any gauges at all). As stated, this system (and side detection module specifically), has corroded and gone out again, despite this module supposedly being better sealed. I had a GM dealership replace the entire system with their kit, which was out of their specialty 80k mile warranty for this system, as they realize it is flawed but refuses to recall it. This kit was approximately $1000 installed, and I am again looking at the same price for a flawed system that GM is totally aware of and one that has safety implications and makes the vehicle undrivable.

My blind spot detectors went out, now as a result most of the electrical stuff no longer works. The car powers on and drains the battery randomly and the speedometer doesn’t work. Every light comes on from front camera, abs, and even power steering. I didn’t feel safe taking my kids to school and now I don’t feel I should pay $1,300 out of pocket.

Every year the side sensor goes bad.. This causes vehicle to loose important factors while driving. Headlight go off and on. Speed goes to 0, all codes flashing, gas and ram gone. Car also locks and unlocks randomly along with no heat or air.. This has happened twice even after fuse is pulled while waiting on yet another $1000 repair. This is so very unsafe. Car needs to be removed from roads or side sensor part coverd.

Messages for “service side detection system” and “service rear vision system” appear web vehicle is turned on. Side detection system as well as backup camera are both non functional. GM knows about this issue and had a recall/ warranty repair program. however I was never notified to bring my vehicle in to have this repair done, and now I believe it is past the date that was set to have repairs covered. Will be contacting GM to have these things potentially fixed.

My vehicle is exhibiting the exact systems outlined in NHTSA bulletin PI0924B: Some customers may comment on unwanted opening of the trunk without pressing any of the release buttons while the vehicle is parked. Although the trunk is unlatched while parked, the owner may not observe the trunk open until they begin to drive the vehicle. This may also be accompanied with a “Trunk Open” message in the DIC. This condition may be caused by the trunk release button on the remote transmitter being pressed inadvertently while the transmitter is in their pocket or purse.

On July 11th 2023 I finalized the purchase of a black 2014 Chevy Impala LT at Premiere Auto Solutions LLC. The beginning of the week of July 22nd I started hearing loud noises coming from back tire area. On approximately July 24th, the engine light came on for small Evaporation leak code. Returned back to Premiere Auto and spoke with worker\dealer about situation with the car. Was told by this person after a test drive with him that the back tire noises are normal due to the braking system, and he cleared the engine code from dash panel. Within the next week, back tire noise got worse and engine light came back on along with message to service front camera\side detection system. Car diagnosed by two mechanics for replacement of back rotors\brakes and Evaporation purge valve. Attempted to contact Premiere Auto to no avail. On August 4th the vehicle suffered an electrical failure with total loss of power while driving. On August 7th the car was towed to Bob Johnson Chevrolet at 1271 W. Ridge Rd. Rochester, NY, 14615. The car is still there diagnosed with a shorted wire to the front camera module which renders the car inoperable, and is not covered by the extended warranty.

The officer was nice because I had just got the car and didn't give me a ticket, just a warning. Blinker on passenger side won't work with lights on and fuses for that side keeps blowing

My car has had a the side detection modules fail every 1 to 2 years since I've owned the car new in 2014. The dealership has repaired it for free every time now for at least 5 times. Now that the car is not under warranty they refuse to fix it for free. This is a problem with the design and engineering of the car and it is very costly to fix. The problem will continue to occur since the manufacturer refuses to find a permanent solution to the issue. It is related to the placement of the unit and it is affected by the environment and corrodes.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the side mirror blind spot detection system malfunctioned, and the warning light blinked constantly and blinked while no oncoming vehicle was present. The contact stated that the failure occurred on both the driver’s side and passenger’s side mirrors. The contact stated that while the failure occurred the electronic cluster also malfunctioned, and the doors and trunk lid would not always open, and the vehicle would not always start immediately. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced an unknown module kit. The contact stated that the vehicle had been repaired for the same failure on three previous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Multiple electric concerns...airbag light, park assist, inop camera, and losing communication with BCM(?) Found multiple communication codes for a variety of different modules. Found main source to be from the "side detection modules". Found fuse 62 blown underhood. Inspected side detection modules and found "a lot of corrosion" on both modules and connectors. Needs side detection kit. I purchased the used impala on 12/19/2020 with 63,897 miles. The first time this issue was a concern was on 07/02/2022 at Merit chevrolet (MN). Mileage was at 83144 at that time. Diagnosis ... recommend both rear side detection modules and harness? According to Special coverage adjustment #N172097060 it is known to be subject to "water intrusion"? This problem affects the whole electrical system which includes airbag function. Why does this safety concern have a limited coverage time? According to the "Special Coverage" document, there was an 80000 mile timeline? This appears to be an ongoing issue with this year, make, and model and my feeling is that a "special coverage" is denying the safety problem and putting it on the consumer?

The 2014 Chevy Impala is dangerous. When the rocker arm control valve and related parts fail or the camshaft solenoids and sensors fail the car will drive rough and eventually just cut off in the middle of traffic highway or residential. This is what it did on me, putting me in a very dangerous position. The economic loss is still devastating financially as all 2.5 and 3.6 engines arent covered by GM special warranty but they should be all covered. My VIN number was not included when it should be.

Bad wiring harnesses causing brakes and antilock brakes to throw codes and fail. Abs and stable track fail and also cause car to suddenly go to low engine power mode while driving down highway. Replaced nearly every brake component plus vehicle computers and abs modules. Vehicle now throwing new codes serious at random. Main pcm computer replaced twice. Abs, brake booster, abs modular, master cylinder, 4 calipers, hoses, abs module and abs valve assembly all these components replaced twice at least. Vehicle was not a flood car.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the side detection sensors that illuminate on the rear-view mirror failed to function as intended. The contact stated there was a special customer program released however they had missed the expiration date by one month. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed that the side detection sensor, modules and wire harnesses needed to be replaced. The contact later found that the wiring harness associated with this system was prone to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure continued to occur intermittently. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44, 786.

THE WATER WAS STANDING A LOT IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. THERE WAS ANOTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE THAT HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE DAYS PRIOR TO VISIT TO DEALERSHIP.

The linx radio stopped working. The onstar system stopped working awhile after the linx radio stopped working when the car started to operate off of battery reserve (or what I think is battery reserve --- the light on the dashboard changed to blue). I've had to change the batter twice in 2.5 years. I'm told the battery Duralast is a good battery and that its an electrical fuse problem and it would be difficult to find which wire is the problem. The vehicle has been inspected by three different dealers in three different states. I was also told to uninstall onstar for resolution of the electrical problem of the battery draining and needing to draw energy from another source taking up more energy than it's suppose to in the vehicle. Yes, in 2017-18, the problem was confirmed by the dealership where I purchased the car brand new in 2014, Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg, MD.

We have had several problems with the blind spot sensor on our 2014 Impala LTZ. Problems would always occur when driving in rain or snow. Dealer would just say that the sensor gets wet and that we should try to dry it off. Once the sensor was dry it would work ok. Now the sensor does not work at all. Took it off and it was full of corrosion. Reading online regarding reviews I find out that this is a very common problem with GM vehicles but GM refuses to do a recall. However they did do a special offer to replace the sensor if you have less than 80,000 miles. My car has 85,000 but I have dealt with this problem for several years. I replaced the sensor myself (at a cost of $400) and now they tell me it has to be reprogrammed. That really sucks. It is too bad that GM just can't accept the fact that they have a faulty product. I am currently waiting for a call back from the dealer to see what it cost to get sensors and wiring harness replaced (GM admits that there definitely was a problem and says you have to replace both sensors and the wiring harness). How in the world can this not be a recall!!!!!!!!!!!

HAVE HAD CAR AT DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES TOTAL FOR THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM MESSAGE/BLIND SPOT INDICATOR LIGHTS. FIRST TWO TIMES THE ISSUE WAS FIXED BECAUSE I HAVE THE MPP COVERAGE PLAN. THIS TIME MPP WOULD HAVE COVERED IT BUT MECHANIC SHOWS WATER INTRUSION. THEIR WAS A RECALL AT ONE TIME FOR VEHICLES UP TO 80,000 MILES. MINE HAS 124,000 SO NOT COVERED BUT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE SAME THING PRIOR DID NOT HAVE 80,000 MILES. SO EITHER PAY THE $900 OR PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE OF $155 AND WALK AWAY WITH ISSUE NOT FIXED . SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND GM HAS DONE NOTHING. IF I HAVE FIXED THE MODULE IS OVER $200 FOR THE ONE SIDE. IT KEEPS GOING OUT. GM SHOULD FIX THIS AND CREATE ANOTHER RECALL FOR THIS ALL SO COMMON ISSUE!!

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CHEVROLET OF HOMEWOOD (18033 S HALSTED ST, HOMEWOOD, IL 60430) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT NOTHING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIKE ANDERSON CHEVROLET OF MERRILLVILLE (1550 E 61ST AVE, MERRILLVILLE, IN 46410) FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,000.

AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, WHEN SHE DETECTED A BURNING ODOR AND SAW FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT THEIR FAULT AND TO CONTACT HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET DIAGNOSED AND WAS STILL AT THE DEALER. ALSO AN INDICATION WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND GMC FAILS COVER THE COST BECAUSE ITS NOT IDENTIFIED AS RECALL. THE STATES THEY WILL COVER FOR NO CHARGE IF WITHIN 8 YEARS OF ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 80,000 MILES (WHICHEVER COMES FIRST). GMC SHOULD ALREADY THAT 2014 CARS WILL BE WELL 80,000 MILES IN 2020! SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND LIVES ARE AT STAKE, GMC SHOULD NOT MAKE THIS FINANCIAL BURDEN FOR CONSUMERS. THE ISSUE STARTED OUT AS A WARNING FROM THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM. IN THE PAST WEEK, THE ISSUE ESCALATED TO ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH COMING ON, AND THEN ALL ELECTRONICS GOING DEAD/DARK. THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS HAVE NO LIGHTS AND NO SOUND, THE RADIO SYSTEM IS DEAD, THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGE ARE DEAD. AFTER SITTING A FEW HOURS, IT SEEMED THAT THINGS "RESET" TO JUST THE SIDE DETECTION WARNING. MOST RECENTLY, ALL THE ELECTRONICS ARE ACTING STRANGE. PUSHING THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR HANDLE TO UNLOCK IT, DOES NOTHING TO THE DOOR LOCK, HOWEVER, THE DISPLAY SCREEN SHOWS "TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE". WHEN ATTEMPTING THE START THE CAR BY PUSHING THE START BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENS. IF I PUT THE FOB IN THE SLOT INSIDE THE ARMREST, IT WILL EVENTUALLY START, BUT AGAIN ALL DISPLAY FUNCTIONS ARE DEAD AS IS THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS (NO BLOWER - NO DEFROST- NO GOOD ON A COLD RAINY DAY). AGAIN THE SIGNAL INDICATORS ARE DARK AND SILENT. THE INDICATOR LIGHT FOR THE AIRBAGS IS NOW ILLUMINATED AS WELL. GM HAD A SHORT LIVED (AND SEEMINGLY SECRET) EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM HAVE THIS EXACT ISSUE WHEN WATER GOT INTO THE SENSORS, BUT THAT EXPIRED NEARLY A YEAR AGO. I HAD NOTICED THE EPB LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY, FAR MORE OFTEN THAN EVERY 50 KEY CYCLES, AND BEGAN EXPERIENCING A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN ACCELERATION, POOR BRAKING, BRAKE DUST BUILDUP, UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, BOGGING DOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT AND WHEN ACCELERATING OUT OF A SLOWDOWN AND/OR TURN. I WOULD ALSO CONSTANTLY SMELL BRAKE DUST AND TIRE RUBBER AND FELT MY BRAKES WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY HOT TO THE TOUCH AFTER SHORT TRIPS. I OBSERVED THE OUTER REAR BRAKE PADS THROUGH THE CALIPER AND THERE SEEMED TO BE DECENT PAD LEFT. HOWEVER I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES AND WAS TOLD EVERY TIME THAT THERE WAS NO NEED TO REPLACE THE PADS. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY SOFTWARE FLASHES TO CORRECT ANY KNOWN OR UNKNOWN ISSUES, AND WAS ONCE TOLD THAT MY BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED AND AFTER HAVING THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE THEM WAS TOLD THE ISSUE SHOULD BE CORRECTED. I HAD FRIENDS AND FAMILY WITH AUTOMOTIVE BACKGROUNDS LOOK AT MY BRAKES AND TELL ME THERE SEEMED TO BE NO VISIBLE ISSUES. I FINALLY DECIDED TO HAVE A LOOK MYSELF ONE DAY. AFTER HOISTING THE VEHICLE UP, REMOVING THE REAR TIRE AND INSPECTING THE CALIPER AND PADS, I REALIZED THAT THE EPB HAD ACTUALLY HEAT/RUST-WELDED ITSELF TO THE INNER BRAKE PAD WHICH WAS COMPLETELY WORN WITH NO PAD WHATSOEVER. THE EPB WAS ACTUALLY UNABLE TO RETRACT, EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHT WAS OFF, BECAUSE THE METAL PLATE ON THE BACK OF THE PAD HAD BEEN FUSED TO THE EPB. I HAD TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT AGAIN, AND WAS INEVITABLY TASKED WITH CORRECTING THE ISSUE MYSELF. I HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON NEW PADS, ROTORS, CALIPER PINS, GREASE, TIRES, ETC. BECAUSE OF THE PERSISTING ISSUE. WHEN I SEARCHED MY VEHICLE BY VIN IT TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS, BUT AFTER SEARCHING BY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL I FINALLY FOUND THE RECALL INVOLVING THE EPB CAUSING DRAG AFTER FAILING TO RETRACT. A YEAR OR SO LATER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM SAYING THAT THAT REPAIR WOULD NOW BE COVERED UP TO 6 YEARS/80,000 MILE AND IF I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR SUCH REPAIR THAT I COULD FILE A CLAIM AND THEY WOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE PREVIOUS WORK. WELL AMAZINGLY THEY REIMBURSED ME FOR THE FIRST REPAIR, WHICH WAS GREAT! EXCEPT NOW, THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND I AM NOW PAST THE 6 YEAR 80,000 MILE MARK. EVERYTHING WAS GOING GREAT,NO PROBLEMS, AND I LOVE IT.I RECEIVED A SPECIAL COVERAGE LETTER IN MAY OF 2019 THAT INFORMED ME OF A POTENTIAL SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT PROBLEM PREVENTING IT FROM WORKING PROPERLY AND TO BRING IT IN ONLY IF IT MET THE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAME WITH IT INCLUDING BEING WITHIN 6 YEARS OF ORIGINAL SERVICE OR 80,000 MILES. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF PROBLEMS, SO I JUST SET THE NOTICE ASIDE AND DID WHAT THE THE NOTICE TOLD ME,UNTIL FEBRUARY 2020. IT WAS WET OUTSIDE ONE DAY AND I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT LOCATED ON THE MIRROR ALWAYS STAYED ON, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS OFF. IT ALWAYS STAYS ON AND I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT IT SO I STARTED DOING RESEARCH AND LEARNED IT IS A VERY COMMON EXPENSIVE PROBLEM AND MANY PEOPLE ARE UPSET THIS IS HAPPENING TO THEM, INCLUDING ME.I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MY APPOINTMENT, UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS COVERED, ONLY TO GET THERE AND TELL ME THAT IT HAS EXPIRED AND THAT IT WOULD BE $90 TO DIAGNOSE THE OBVIOUS ISSUE. I THINK THAT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO EXTEND THE SPECIAL PROGRAM OR DO SOMETHING TO HELP CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASED THE CAR AFTER THE EXPIRATION DATE, ESPECIALLY CUSTOMERS LIKE ME THAT PURCHASED THE CAR AFTER THE 80,000 MILES.. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I LOVE THE CAR BUT THIS LIGHT CONSTANTLY BEING ON IS A NUISANCE AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A NEWER CAR, AND IT IS ALSO A SAFETY CONCERN.

AROUND 100,000 MILES (ABOUT 5 YEARS OLD) I STARTED RECEIVING A SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM WARNING AND IGNORED IT FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS BECAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I WAS DEPENDENT ON THE BLIND SPOT WARNINGS. ONE MORNING I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE FOR ABOUT EVERY SENSOR ON THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED IT BUT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A MECHANIC. THEY FOUND OUT THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS SHORTING OUT DUE TO THE BAD SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM SENSOR. I HAD TO PAY ALMOST $750 TO REPLACE THE BAD SENSOR. THE WORST PART IS NOW ABOUT 18,000 MILES LATER, I'M GETTING THE SAME SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM ERROR. IT MUST BE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW IF THE REPLACEMENT PART IS LASTING LESS THAN 20,000 MILES AND LESS THAN YEAR. NOW, I HAVE TO BALANCE WASTING ANOTHER $750 VERSUS MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORTING OUT DUE TO THE FAILING SENSOR - HOPEFULLY, THIS SHORTING OUT DOESN'T OCCUR DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC AND CAUSE AN ISSUE. I ALSO HAD AN INCIDENT WITH MY CAR ON FEB. 21, 2020 AS I GOING TO PARK AT MY COLLEGE, I BEGAN TO TURN LEFT AND MY CARS ENGINE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF, MY CAR LIGHTS AND RADIO WERE ON THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WAS AT 14.9, BUT MY CAR NO LONGER WANTED TO START. NEXT WAS CORROSION ON SEVERAL OTHER INSIDE WIRES HAVING TO DO WITH STEERING AND POSSIBLY AIR BAGS, BUT WHO KNOWS IF THEY WILL BE EFFECTIVE UNTIL THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND IT'S TOO LATE TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE DMAMGED. OTHER SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS SIDE DETECTION WAS CORRODED SO IT TOO MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WAS A LOT OF OTHER ELECTRICAL THINGS DAMAGED BUT THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE COULD BE A HUGE SAFE CONCERN. THERE IS NOW SO MUCH MOLD WHICH IS DANGEROUS TO BE BREATHING IN IF NOT TOTALLY REPLACED. THERE IS AN EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL THAT IS CAUSING RUST AND THE INABILITY TO USE THIS SAFETY FEATURE IF NEEDED! THIS BECAME A HORRIBLE SAFETY CONCERN FOR MYSELF AND WHOMEVER MY BE TRAVELING IN MY VEHICLE. OTHER TIMES JUST THE RADIO AND THE DISPLAY WILL GO OFF - SOMETIMES FOR DAYS & SOMETIMES JUST A FEW MINUTES, BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE. OTHER TIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WILL COMPLETELY STOP WORKING AND THE GAS GAGE REGISTERS NOTHING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE ON LONG DRIVES SO THAT I CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I AM GOING OR WHETHER I HAVE ENOUGH GAS. IT WILL THEN START BACK UP, BUT MAY BE DAYS LATER. I TOOK IT IN TO BE FIXED. THEY TOOK THE COMPUTER OUT FROM UNDER THE REAR WHEEL WELL AND SHOWED ME THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. I DROVE THE CAR WITHOUT A COMPUTER FOR 8 MONTHS BUT BECAUSE OF THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUING, I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW COMPUTER. THE CAR HAD TOO MANY MILES FOR THIS TO BE COVERED SO I PAID OVER $1500 FOR THIS TO BE FIXED. NOW IT IS 3 WEEKS AFTER GETTING THE NEW COMPUTER INSTALLED. ALL OF THE PROBLEMS HAVE CONTINUED. AND AGAIN TODAY, I WAS STRANDED WHEN I WENT OUT AFTER WORK AND FOUND IT DEAD AGAIN. IT IS BACK IN THE DEALER AGAIN.

I HAD AN APPOINTMENT IN AUGUST BUT HAD TO CANCEL IT AS MY MOM WAS JUST PUT INTO HOSPICE AT THAT POINT. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD PUT IN THE LETTER MY DATE OF ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE BUT IT WOULD MAKE IT A LOT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND. I AM HOPING THAT I CAN STILL HAVE IT FIXED AND NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT GM MADE INCORRECTLY. MINIMALLY, THE PROBLEM CAN BE RESOLVED BY REPLACING THE SENSORS AND/OR HARNESSES FOR BRAND NEW ONES. THE PASSENGER SIDE NOTIFICATION LIGHT STAYED ON FOR TWO DAYS STRAIGHT EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF. IT IS NOT FUSED IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE ONLY UNDER THE HOOD. THESE SAFETY COMPONENTS SHOULD BE MOUNTED IN THE TRUNK PER INDUSTRY STANDARD OR SEALED WITH PROPER WEATHER RESISTANT GASKETS AT THE VERY LEAST. THE HARNESS WAS CORRODED SO BADLY IT WAS JUMPING THE CONNECTION AND BLOWING FUSES. THE MODULES WERE VISIBLY SWOLLEN FROM HAVING MOISTURE INSIDE AND RUST FORMING. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THERE SHOULD BE A FULL RECALL IF NOT A SPECIAL COVERAGE ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE, IT IS VERY SERIOUS AND VERY COSTLY. IT WAS DUSK AND IT APPEARED THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTING CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. I STOPPED SAFELY AND TURNED OFF MY CAR AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND THE PUSH BUTTON START WOULD NOT WORK. THEY DISCONNECTED THE MODULES AND MY CAR'S DASH FUNCTION RETURNED WITH JUST A WARNING TO SERVICE THE SIDE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED ME A COPY OF A GM SERVICE BULLETIN #17-NA-154 SERVICE SIDE OBJECT DETECTION MESSAGE STATING TO REPLACE BOTH MODULES AND THE WIRING HARNESS NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,638.91. I HAD ALREADY REPLACED ONE MODULE 13 MONTHS EARLIER FOR $720. THIS FAILURE MODE IS UNACCEPTABLE LEAVING THE CAR IN A DANGEROUS STATE WITHOUT DIRECTIONALS, IMPORTANT GAGES LIKE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL , AND POSSIBLY NO AUTOMATIC LIGHTING CONTROLS. THE DESIGNED FAILURE MODE SHOULD BE SOLELY A SERVICE BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM LEAVING ALL OTHER SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL. CURRENTLY I AM TOLD THAT ALL PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX MY CAR ARE UNAVAILABLE. THE MODULES ARE A POOR DESIGN FROM GM. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THESE CARS. CURRENTLY, GM HASN'T BEEN HELD RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE DESIGN OF THESE MODULES. WHEN MY SIDE DETECTION MONITORING SYSTEM FAILED A FEW MONTHS AGO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER. THEY RESPONDED TELLING ME THAT, UNFORTUNATELY, THE DESIGN FOR THIS SENSOR MODULE/HARNESS IS COMPLETELY FLAWED. THE SENSORS ARE LOCATED IN THE REAR BUMPER, WITH PLASTIC HOUSING. THERE IS NO WEATHER PROTECTION, EVEN THOUGH THESE ARE DIRECTLY BEHIND THE TIRES AND ARE EXPOSED TO ALL WEATHER - PLUS I LIVE IN IL SO WE'RE TALKING RAIN, SNOW, SALT, ETC. IT'S TWO SENSORS AND THE HARNESS. I COULDN'T AFFORD THE $1200 REPAIR, SO I FIGURED I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF THE SAFETY FEATURE AND IGNORE THE WARNING LIGHT. LAST WEEK, ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON - THEFT DETECTION, FRONT CAMERA, AIRBAG, STABILITRACK, ETC. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS, TURN SIGNALS, LOCKS AND HEADLIGHTS WERE ALL GOING HAYWIRE, AND AT ONE POINT WHILE DRIVING ALL OF MY GAUGES WENT TO ZERO (NO SPEED LIMIT, RPM, GAS GAUGE, ANYTHING) AND MY HEAT WENT OUT, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP HOPING THAT MAYBE MY BATTERY (FACTORY ORIGINAL)/WIRING MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. NO SUCH LUCK. AS IT TURNS OUT THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES ARE NOW CORRUPTING ALL SENSORS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INCLUDING MY AIR BAGS! THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES HAD FAILED AND WERE CAUSING THE CHAOS THAT IS OCCURRING WITH ALL OF MY OTHER WARNING SYSTEMS, AND THAT MY AIR BAGS NO LONGER WORKED. MY AIR BAGS DON'T WORK BECAUSE OF THIS, NEVERMIND THE EXTREME DANGER IN HAVING A SYSTEM GO HAYWIRE WHILE I'M DRIVING! I'M AT NEARLY 100,000 MILES SO I'M WELL PAST ANY WARRANTY THAT WOULD COVER THIS, BUT I HAVE BEEN READING FORUMS AND CARCOMPLAINTS AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS IS A REALLY COMMON ISSUE. THE GAUGES STOPPED WORKING, THE HEATER TURNED OFF AS DID THE RADIO AND FELT LIKE THE POWER WAS WAY DOWN. MY BLINKERS WEREN'T WORKING EITHER. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF TO TRY TO RESET IT AND IT DID NOT WORK. I FINISHED MY DRIVE TO WORK. WHEN RETURNING TO MY CAR, IT DID NOT REPLICATE THE SAME BEHAVIOR AS IN THE MORNING. NOW, MY LANE DEPARTURE AND FRONT CRASH DETECTION IS NOT WORKING. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN THE 2014 CHEVY IMPALA. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, ALONG WITH MY HUSBAND, A GM PRODUCT OWNER, GM HAS A PLANT 1 MILE FROM US AND THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT SHUTTING IT DOWN. AFTER MY HUSBAND HAD BROUGHT ME THE SECOND FOB FROM HOME THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THE FOB. I WALKED AWAY FROM THE CAR TO RE-SET THE FOB. THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER BEING STRUCK IN FRIDAY AFTERNOON TRAFFIC FOR AN HOUR I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. MY HUSBAND TRIED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTED. I DROVE THE CAR HOME. WHEN THE DASH FINALLY STOPPED THIS CYCLING, IT LEFT THE CAR WITHOUT ANY INDICATORS (SPEED, TACH, FUEL, ETC)...THEY WERE ALL ON ZERO. FORTUNATELY, MY GARMIN GPS TOLD ME MY SPEED. THINGS REMAINED THAT WAY UNTIL I STOPPED AND SHUT OFF THE CAR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. AFTER RESTARTING THINGS WERE NORMAL, EXCEPT THAT MY DRIVERS SIDE MIRROR COLLISION AVOIDANCE INDICATOR REMAINED ON. WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OR CORNERING AT STEEP ANGLES THE TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATES AND WILL ALMOST STOP THE VEHICLE. PREVIOUSLY HAD ISSUE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY REPLACED A WIRING HARNESS. ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. A DEALER SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH WATER GETTING IN THE HARNESSES BUT THERE IS NO RECALL ONLY A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. WHERE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT EFFECTS THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS I FEEL THIS BEING A KNOW ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED THOUGH A RECALL AS THE REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE AND A SAFETY CONCERN.

WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL "STABILITRACT" LIGHT POPPED UP ON THE DASH SCREEN AND REDUCED THE ENGINE'S POWER, REDUCING MY SPEED TO A MAXIMUM OF 30 MPH WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO THE POSTED 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT. I WAS TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN THE "STABILITRACT" & "ENGINE POWER BEING REDUCED" INFORMATION POPPED UP. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO PULL OVER AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SLOW NATURE OF THE VEHICLE, EVEN WITH THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON. THIS IS SEVERAL INCIDENTS WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR, HAVING ELECTRONIC FAILURE. THE WORST OF IT WAS WHEN THE COLLISION SENSOR WAS AFFECTED BY A LEAK IN THE CAR AFTER HAVING TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED DUE TO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR FALLING OFF. THAT INCIDENT CAUSED THE CAR TO SLAM ON IT'S BREAKS DUE AN ELECTRICAL ERROR. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. CHEVROLET HAS REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING BUT THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET THE CAR BACK ON THE ROAD OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXING THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, AS THIS IS ONCE AGAIN AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IF THE ELECTRONICS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO FAIL.

I STARTED CHECKING EVERYWHERE AND FOUND THE CARPET IN THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT VERY WET. I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN THIS TIME I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE A BIG PROBLEM TO FIX, THE CAR WAS NOW SMELLING SO BAD WITH MILDEW AND MOLD EVEN THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN COULD HARDLY STAND TO SIT IN IT AT ALL. THEY HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE THE UNDERLAY, AND IT STILL SMELLS BAD. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAD A GM SERVICE SPECIALIST COME TO THE DEALER TO LOOK AT IT. TO MY SURPRISE THE FOLLOWING MORNING I CAME TO A STOP AND THE ENGINE QUITE, THERE WAS A CLEAR LANE WITHIN SITE THAT I FIGURED I COULD PUSH THE DEAD VEHICLE TO. I OPENED THE DOOR, WHILE KEEPING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND POSITIONED MYSELF IN THE DOOR FRAME TO PUSH. THEN I REMOVED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO REACH IN AND PLACE IT INTO NEUTRAL AND START PUSHING. TO MY SURPRISE THE VEHICLE STARTED BY ITS SELF AND ACCELERATED AWAY FROM ME, THE DOOR FRAME ALMOST KNOCKING ME DOWN, YET LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO CATCH THE CAR AND GET BACK TO THE BRAKE BEFORE THE CAR CRASHED. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS WAS AN ECONOMIC FEATURE ON THAT VEHICLE. I FEEL GREAT CONCERN THAT THIS CAR STARTED WHEN MY SEAT BELT HAD BEEN REMOVED AND DOOR OPENED, WOULD THEY HAVE AT LEAST CONSIDERED SOME SORT OF PRECAUTION FROM THIS OCCURRING. PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUS, I KNOW THAT I WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS FEATURE, AND HAD I NOT CAUGHT THE CAR OR GOTTEN KNOCKED DOWN AND RUN OVER, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS. *TR

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2014 IMPALA INDICATED IMMINENT CRASH BY FLASHING A RED LIGHT FROM DASH INTO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND SOUNDING AN ALARM WITH 3 OR 4 BEEPS. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I THOUGHT MAYBE THE SENSOR WAS PICKING UP A SHADOW OR PARKED CAR BUT AS IT HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES I CAME TO THE REALIZATION THAT IT WAS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. ON CLEAR SUNNY DAYS WITH NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME IT BEGAN TO OCCUR. I'VE OWNED THE CAR FOR 2 MONTHS AND IT HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED 15 TO 20 TIMES. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH IT SOUNDS LIKE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND IN FACT IF MY CAR WAS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC BRAKING FUNCTION I'M CONFIDENT THAT IT WOULD HAVE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR

I FIND MY LINK VERY DIFFICULT TO USE AS COMPARE TO MY 2011 BUICK REGAL CONTROL KNOB VS TOUCH SCREEN. THE IPOD I USE IN THE BUICK OR THE USB DRIVE WAS EASIER TO USE AND NAVIGATE. I SPOKEN TO APPLE AND MICROSOFT TECHS ABOUT CREATING PLAYLISTS BUT THE FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK IN MY IMPALA. THIS IS A PROBLEM IN 2014 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND THE MY LINK SYSTEM THAT NEED CORRECTION. THE I TUNE AND MEDIA PLAYER IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH MYLINK AND GM SHOULD PROVIDE SOFTWARE/APP THAT WILL WORK. TO CHANGE A SELECTION IN MYLINK CAN CAUSE DISTRACTED DRIVING. *TR

BATTERY LEAKED DOWN THE FRAME AND WAS EATING THE 2 TRANY COOLER ALUMINUM LINES. AUTONATION CHEVROLET SUPERSTITION SPRINGS IN MESA, AZ PUT A NEW BATTERY AND 2 NEW TRANY COOLER LINES ON, BUT AFTER THE 4TH ATTEMPT CAN NOT GET ALL OF THE ACID CLEANED UP. ENGINE CRADLE STILL HAS NO PAINT IN SPOTS AND ACID STILL SHOWING ON SPOTS. AFTER A DAY OF RAIN. WENT OUT TO THE CAR THE NEXT DAY AND WHEN I OPENED UP THE DRIVERS DOOR THERE WAS A VERY BAD ODOR. ALMOST WANTED TO THROW UP. AFTER LOOKING ALL OVER THE CAR FOUND 2" OF WATER WERE THE SPARE TIRE IS AND ALL OF THE CARPET WET IN THE TRUNK. TOOK IT TO AUTONATION CHEVROLET SUPERSTITION SPRINGS IN MESA, AZ. THEY HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS AND THEY DETERMINED I DID NOT HAVE THE TRUNK CLOSED ALL THE WAY. THIS TRUNK WILL NOT STAY DOWN. WHAT I MEAN IS THE SPRING IS SO GOOD IT'S ETHER CLOSED ALL THE WAY OR OPEN ALL THE WAY. AFTER THAT AND SOME RESEARCH I FOUND GM HAS PUT OUT A #PI1133 TRUNK WATER LEAK. THE SEAL AROUND THE REAR TAIL LIGHT LEAKS WATER INTO THE TRUNK. SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HAD TO TELL THEM IT WAS NOT ME LEAVING THE TRUNK OPENED. *TR
