Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Tiguan, 2023 Arteon, and 2024-2025 Audi Q3 vehicles. An error may occur in the camera control unit at vehicle startup, resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will update the camera control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Audi owners April 3, 2024, and Volkswagen owners November 18, 2025.Volkswagen owners will receive a second notice once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are (Volkswagen) 91NY and (Audi) 90AV.

Electrical System →3 issues
Your infotainment system frequently freezes and disconnects from your phone, and the vehicle doesn't consistently recognize your key fob, forcing you to manually lock and unlock the doors multiple times. The GPS cutting out while driving has caused you to miss turns and become distracted, creating a safety hazard. Additionally, your car won't allow you to pump gas unless the doors are unlocked, which creates a security risk while refueling. Despite software updates and key fob replacement, the problems persist.

Your car's infotainment system (CarNet) stopped working and had to be replaced once already. Less than a year later, it's stopped working again. This is a recurring issue with the system's functionality.

Your entertainment screen and backup camera display keeps turning on and off repeatedly without any reason. Eventually the screen shuts off completely and won't turn back on unless you hold the power button for 15 seconds, but then it continues the same on-and-off pattern. This issue started on its own without any physical damage or modifications to the screen.

Visibility/wiper →2 issues
Your windshield has developed four spontaneous cracks on the driver's side, ranging from about one to four inches long. You noticed them when entering the car, and they're only felt from the inside of the vehicle; one crack appears jagged and dark when viewed from inside. Fixing this will likely require windshield replacement or repair through a glass specialist.

Your windshield wiper motor was damaged during a car wash because the automatic rain sensor wasn't properly disabled beforehand, causing both wipers to stop working. The repair estimate from Volkswagen is $1,100, and Volkswagen corporate denied coverage, claiming it's owner damage. You believe this was preventable because the owner's manual doesn't clearly explain how to completely turn off the automatic wiper sensors, despite referring to a diagram on page 114 that only shows a symbol without detailed instructions. Fixing this will likely require replacing the windshield wiper motor and potentially reprogramming the sensor settings.

Power Train,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your vehicle's transmission isn't shifting correctly—when parked on a slope, it rolls in the opposite direction from what you selected (moving forward when reverse is engaged, or backward when drive is selected). This has caused multiple near-collisions within two weeks of ownership, creating a serious safety risk. The issue occurs after a few minutes of driving and leaves no warning lights on your dashboard. Fixing this will likely require a complete transmission inspection and possibly transmission fluid replacement or internal transmission repair.

Electrical System, engine, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your 2024 Tiguan experienced multiple electrical and engine problems shortly after purchase that required five dealer visits between November 2024 and January 2025, keeping the car out of service for nearly 7 weeks total. Despite repeated repair attempts, the issues were never resolved, and Volkswagen denied your request to repurchase the vehicle. On February 9, 2025, while parked and off, your vehicle caught fire that originated in the dashboard from an electrical failure, creating a serious safety risk that could have caused injury or property damage. The repair will likely require a complete electrical system inspection and replacement of the faulty components in the dashboard.

Carry Handle, Shell, Base,other/i Am Not Sure,i Suspect The Car Seat Is Counterfeit →1 issue
Your child car seat has excessive movement (more than an inch) when secured with both the seat belt and lower anchors, and won't level properly even after adjusting the height settings multiple times. The seat remains wobbly side-to-side and won't align with the bubble level indicator, making it unsafe for use. You may need to have the car seat professionally inspected or replaced to ensure proper installation and safety.

Lane Departure →1 issue
After your dealership performed an oil change on your 2024 Tiguan, strong fumes and white smoke entered the cabin, causing headaches and nausea. The dealer later discovered a mechanical issue in the cam/valve area requiring a plug replacement, and you found the engine was completely out of oil shortly after the service. This combination created a serious risk of engine failure, fire, and toxic fume exposure inside your vehicle. The issue likely requires the dealership to locate and install the correct replacement plug, refill the oil system, and diagnose why oil was lost after the service.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan's right headlight assembly was damaged in a deer collision and needs replacement. The dealership ordered the OEM headlight in June 2025, but it remains on national backorder with no estimated delivery date. Your vehicle has been sitting at the collision shop for over 6 months unable to be released because operating with only one working headlight and a non-functional turn signal violates federal safety standards. Getting the correct OEM headlight assembly installed is the only fix, but the part availability issue is preventing that repair from happening.

Electrical System,visibility/wiper,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your vehicle's touchscreen, GPS, rear camera, and driver-assistance features randomly shut down while driving—sometimes multiple times per trip. This has happened since you leased the car and occurs in various locations around the city, not just one spot. The dealership has attempted repairs over five times across multiple locations without success, and technicians have stated the vehicle is defective. The fix will likely require a complete replacement or reprogramming of the multimedia and safety control module, or possibly the entire infotainment system.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your 2024 Tiguan caught fire without warning while driving normally on a public road, forcing you and your passengers to evacuate immediately. The fire spread rapidly and destroyed the vehicle, despite having only 7,000 miles and no prior mechanical issues or warning signs. Volkswagen attributed the fire to vegetation in the engine compartment, but this explanation is questionable since modern vehicles shouldn't spontaneously ignite from debris under normal driving conditions. The investigation may involve inspecting the electrical system, engine components, and fuel system connections to determine the actual cause.

Engine →1 issue
Your car caught fire while driving less than a year after purchase, just 20 minutes into a trip following routine maintenance at the dealership. Smoke appeared under the hood with no warning from the vehicle's electronics, followed quickly by flames that completely engulfed the car and made it a total loss.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car's door locks and trunk became unresponsive, trapping your child inside during hot weather for 20-30 minutes until emergency responders forced the door open. The keys were inside the vehicle, and the external unlock mechanisms on all doors failed to function. While the dealership found no mechanical defect after inspection, this locking malfunction created a serious safety risk by preventing emergency exit.

Power Train,unknown Or Other,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your 2024 Tiguan unexpectedly lurches forward during normal acceleration and when the automatic start/stop feature restarts the engine, even when your foot position hasn't changed and your foot is on the brake. This has happened multiple times and created near-miss situations. A dealership technician was able to reproduce the problem during a test drive, but the issue persists even after a factory reset, suggesting a potential defect in the fuel or engine control system.

Steering,electrical System,lane Departure →1 issue
Your car's lane keep assist system activates randomly and tries to steer your vehicle while vibrating the steering wheel as if the lane departure warning were alerting you. Additionally, warning lights for lane keep assist and emergency SOS appear randomly on your dashboard. This suggests an electrical or sensor malfunction in your steering assist system that needs diagnostic evaluation.

Electrical System,seats,engine →1 issue
Your engine has started smoking again after valve seals were replaced at 11,000 miles, and the dealer says the next step is replacing the engine head. Your SOS warning light comes on almost every morning, and your driver seat memory function doesn't work despite multiple dealer visits and part replacements. The repair may involve removing and replacing the engine head, diagnosing the electrical system warning light, and potentially replacing the seat control module or wiring.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your rear camera has not been working since June 2025, and Volkswagen hasn't provided a fix yet. This is a safety concern because you lose the backup view when reversing. The repair will likely involve diagnosing the camera module or wiring harness and replacing any faulty components.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your fuel gauge isn't showing the correct fuel level, even though it's already been replaced once. This means you can't accurately tell how much gas is in your tank, which could leave you stranded if you run out of fuel unexpectedly. The repair may require diagnosing the fuel sending unit, wiring harness, or instrument cluster to identify why the replacement gauge still isn't working properly.
