Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Jetta vehicles. The transmission ground wire may not have been properly connected during assembly, causing an open electrical circuit.

Risk: An open circuit may draw a higher current and increase the risk of a fire.

Fix: Dealers will inspect and repair transmission ground wire as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 8, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97TC. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays."

Risk: An instrument panel that does not display critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will update the instrument panel software and replace the instrument panel as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 22, 2026. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 90Z5. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 22, 2026.

Your 2025 Jetta has surged forward unexpectedly twice when shifting from Park to Drive, even with your foot on the brake pedal — once traveling about 30 feet and nearly hitting a wall, and a second time striking a storage cabinet. Two authorized Volkswagen dealerships performed diagnostic scans but found no fault codes and couldn't reproduce the problem, so no repairs were made. You're concerned an intermittent mechanical or electronic defect may exist that could cause this unintended acceleration to happen again. The fix will likely require Volkswagen engineers to identify and address the root cause of the acceleration issue through a comprehensive diagnostic review.

Your car has experienced unintended acceleration twice when shifting into Drive while your foot was firmly on the brake pedal. In both incidents, the vehicle surged forward despite continued brake pressure, causing it to travel uncontrollably and damage property — once narrowly missing a wall supporting your house and once destroying a storage cabinet. The dealership was unable to diagnose the problem or find any fault codes. A mechanic will need to inspect the fuel system, transmission controls, and brake system to identify why the vehicle is accelerating despite brake input.

While driving on the highway in normal conditions, your car's sunroof suddenly shattered loudly without any warning signs or impact, spraying glass throughout the interior and cutting a passenger. The sunroof was working normally before the failure, and there was no collision or external cause visible. The dealership has refused to inspect the vehicle to determine why the glass spontaneously broke.

Your car's climate controls are only accessible through a touchscreen with no physical knobs or voice activation. To adjust heating or cooling, you need to look away from the road for an extended period, which creates a distraction while driving. Installing physical climate control knobs or voice-activated controls could make these adjustments safer.

Your transmission is making whining and whistling noises when driving at light load or coasting, especially between 1000-2000 RPM. This could indicate a transmission problem that may worsen over time. You should have a transmission specialist inspect your vehicle to diagnose the source of the noise and determine if repairs are needed.

Your transmission is making a high-pitched whining noise between 1200-2000 RPM, especially during low-speed acceleration or when the engine is working harder. This noise seems to be coming directly from the transmission itself. The issue may require transmission fluid inspection, filter replacement, or internal transmission service to diagnose and resolve.

Forward Collision Avoidance2 issues
highFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Jun 2025

Your forward collision avoidance warning system triggered a problem message after only 312 miles on your new 2025 Jetta, even though you hadn't driven yet and weather conditions were normal (72 degrees, dry). This is unusual for a brand-new vehicle and warrants diagnostic inspection by a dealer to identify the underlying cause.

Your car's cruise control doesn't work the way it should with a manual transmission. When you press the clutch pedal while cruise is on, the cruise temporarily disengages instead of fully turning off like it does in other manual transmission vehicles. If you keep the car out of gear for a while, cruise will fully disengage. This is confusing and potentially unsafe because you're usually pressing the clutch to slow down, but the cruise re-engages unexpectedly when you shift gears. The issue appears to be a software programming problem specific to manual transmission models.

CrashFiled: Dec 2025

Your steering wheel unexpectedly locked and pulled to the right for 2-3 seconds while driving at 70 MPH on the highway after hitting a road surface irregularity, causing you to hit a wall. This issue has occurred multiple times since you bought the car new — triggered by road imperfections like potholes, speed bumps, or train tracks — but the dealer couldn't find a problem during inspection. The steering typically recovers on its own without any warning lights, though this highway incident was more severe than previous occurrences. This likely requires a comprehensive steering system diagnostic and possible replacement of steering components or software reprogramming.

Filed: Oct 2025

Your brand-new 2025 Jetta's check-engine light came on within 24 hours of purchase, and the fuel gauge stopped working and showed incorrect fuel levels. The dealership diagnosed a faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM), but before repairs could be completed, your car became completely inoperable and wouldn't shift into Drive, leaving you stranded. The vehicle had less than 350 miles on it when this happened. Fixing this issue will likely require replacing the Transmission Control Module and diagnosing the electrical fuel gauge problem.

Filed: Aug 2025

Your driver's side mirror appears to magnify objects and make them look closer than they actually are, which creates a safety concern when you're checking your blind spot or merging left. The magnification distortion makes it difficult to judge the actual distance of oncoming vehicles accurately. Your dealership replaced the mirror, but the problem persists, and multiple technicians and other drivers have confirmed the issue exists. The fix will likely involve either adjusting the mirror's angle/position, replacing it with a correctly calibrated unit, or having VW investigate if this is a design issue affecting multiple vehicles.

Your check engine light came on within a week of purchasing your new 2025 Jetta S, and you noticed the RPM spiking before the car would move. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty fuel pump. The fuel pump will need to be replaced to restore normal engine operation.

Your driver's side door handle is catching your fingers when you try to open it from the inside. This has happened at least 5 times and causes pain, even though it hasn't been an issue with your previous VW Jettas. The fix will likely involve inspecting and adjusting or replacing the interior door handle mechanism.
