While driving at 35 mph up a steep hill, your engine misfired and nearly stalled. When you pressed the accelerator, you heard a loud clanging metal-on-metal noise from the engine. Before this happened, you noticed your engine idling roughly and hesitating when accelerating. No warning lights appeared on your dashboard. The issue occurred at approximately 26,000 miles and hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet. A mechanic will need to inspect the engine for spark plug issues, ignition coil problems, or internal damage causing the misfire and noise.

Your engine light came on after cold-weather startup at 36,303 miles, triggered by a fault code indicating an engine control system malfunction. You discovered your engine oil filler cap was completely missing from the engine compartment, which allowed dirt and contamination to enter the engine. The dealership acknowledged this is a known issue with the OEM oil filler caps but disputed responsibility. The fix will involve reinstalling or replacing the oil filler cap and diagnosing any engine damage caused by the contamination.
