AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.
AIR BAGS
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015, that they are recalling 2005-2007 Lexus SC, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Pontiac Vibe, and 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. On June 16, 2015 Toyota expanded the recall to cover an additional 769,055 vehicles, including certain model year 2002-2004 Lexus SC, Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla Matrix, Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Tundra vehicles, as well the vehicles covered by the May 13, 2015 notification in the portions of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that were not previously included. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag.
Fix: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-286 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the passenger side front air bag, free of charge. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota began the recall on July 13, 2015. Pontiac Vibe owners may contact GM at 1-800-762-2737. GM began the recall on June 29, 2015. NOTE: This recacll supersedes recall 14V-655 in its entirety. AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, 2004-2006 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX470 vehicles equipped with side curtain-shield-air bags. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may be improperly programmed, causing the side curtain-shield-air bags to deploy inadvertently.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control module with one that has improved programming, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-271-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is G0C and GLB.
AIR BAGS
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
Fix: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SETTLEMENT POSTCARD FOR THE FRAME ALONG WITH UNKNOWN RECALL NOTICES REGARDING THE AIR BAGS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BUTLER TOYOTA (9419 ARONSON DR, INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46240, (317) 848-4210) SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE THE FRAME REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS WERE REPAIRED INSTEAD. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SETTLEMENT LETTER HAD EXPIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND WAS DETERIORATING RAPIDLY. THE DEALER QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF $2,000 FOR AN AIR SUSPENSION AIR BAG THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE COST TO REPAIR THE FRAME WAS $3,000. THE DEALER DID NOT INCLUDE ON THE PAPERWORK THAT THE FRAME WAS THE MAIN REASON THE CONTACT BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IF THE DEALER HAD INCLUDED THE FRAME ON THE REPAIR ORDER, THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE FRAME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
"TAKATA RECALL" WHILE ENTERING THE RAMP TO GET ON THE EASTEX FWY. (IH 59) NORTH BOUND, I OBSERVED THAT UP AHEAD OF ME A VEHICLE WAS IN A COMPLETE STOP WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. I TRIED TO SWITCH LANES BUT I HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE TO MY LEFT WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SWITCH LANES. I THEN RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE OTHER CAR WHICH CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. AFTER COLLIDING WITH THE STOPPED VEHICLE, I WAS THRUST FORWARD INTO THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY CAR. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO PREVENT MY FACE, HEAD, AND UPPER BODY FROM CRASHING INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WINDSHIELD OF MY CAR.
SINCE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG RECALL, I HAD CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA NUMEROUS TIME TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, THEY TAKE MY INFO AND PROMISE TO EMAIL ME OR CALL BACK WITH THE NEXT AVAIL. APPOINTMENT, HOWEVER WE NEVER HEAR BACK, AND STILL NO RESOLUTION TO FIXING THE AIRBAG.

FINALLY TOOK IT TO GET CHECK & ITS DISCOVER IT'S THE CONTROL MODULE, THE PROGRAMMING WAS DEAD. CHECKED VIN & THERE'S A RECALL STATUS WAITING TO GET APPROVED FOR THE CONTROL MODULE AS OF FEBRUARY 2016. IT STATES IT WAS TO BE DETERMINE BY SEPTEMBER 2016. I'M NOW IN A WAITING TO GET A REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO I NEED A VEHICLE & HAVE TO PAY FOR FIXING. THE DISTURBING ISSUE IS THAT I WAS DRIVING WITH A DEFECTED CONTROL MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS. NEED THIS RECALL TO HAPPEN QUICK FOR OTHERS VEHICLE OWNERS.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING PASSENGER AIRBAGS DUE TO FAULTY TAKATA AIRBAG IN WHICH METAL FRAGMENTS MAY DEPLOY WITH THE AIR BAG. OUR VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES AND I RECEIVED NOTICE IN JUNE/JULY 2015 WITH A RECOMMENDATION NOT TO HAVE ANY PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. IT IS NOW OCT. AND NO REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS HAVE YET BEEN MADE AVAILABLE. THIS IS OUR PRIMARY VEHICLE AND MONTHS HAVE PASSED WITHOUT RESOLUTION OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS UNSATISFACTORY AND MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM IN A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME.
RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE INVOLVING PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SHRAPNEL UPON ACTIVATION. TOYOTA RECOMMEND NO ONE RIDE IN PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL REPAIRED. AFTER MAKING NUMEROUS CALLS ABOUT FOLLOWUP, NO SOLUTION WAS FORTHCOMING. NO TIMELINE WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR (THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY)!!! THAT WAS ALMOST 4 MO. AGO AND STILL NO INFO. FROM TOYOTA. I CALLED TOYOTA AGAIN TODAY (10/6/2015) AND THE STORY WAS THE SAME EXCEPT A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE DID STATE THE AIR BAG COULD POSSIBLY ACTIVATE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT IMPACT. TOYOTA STATED IN THEIR RECALL THAT THE SHRAPNEL COULD CAUSE FATAL INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS!!!! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING DONE TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS WHO OWN THESE POTENTIAL DEATH TRAPS????? THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR MONTHS BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE!!!! I DID READ THAT TOYOTA WAS OFFERING 35$ FOR RENTAL CAR SERVICES BUT NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT THAT IN MY RECALL LETTER. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN AUGUST STATING THERE IS A DEFECT IN MY PASSENGER AIR BAG. THEY TOLD ME NOT TO PUT A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. IT'S OCTOBER AND THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND NEED ALL MY SEATS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I NEED ALL MY PASSENGER SEATS.

IN EARLY AUGUST I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG BEING UNSAFE IN OUR 2006 SEQUOIA. APPARENTLY THIS RECALL HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE JUNE 2015 SO I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT WE WEREN'T NOTIFIED UNTIL EARLY AUGUST. THE RECALL NOTICE RECOMMENDS THAT WE DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL TOYOTA HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, TOYOTA IS TAKING AN EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME TO PROVIDE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. IT IS NOW AUGUST 31 AND THERE IS STILL NO DEFINITIVE DATE SET FOR REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. FURTHER, TOYOTA IS PROVIDING ONLY UP TO $35/DAY REIMBURSEMENT FOR A LOANER VEHICLE -- WHICH COVERS ONLY A THIRD TO HALF OF WHAT IT COSTS TO RENT A VEHICLE OF COMPARABLE SIZE TO OUR SEQUOIA. THIS IS UNFAIR AND A BIG INCONVENIENCE TO OUR FAMILY. I UNDERSTAND THAT PARTS AVAILABILITY CAN TAKE TIME - BUT AT LEAST PROVIDE US WITH A COMPARABLE REPLACEMENT CAR AT NO CHARGE.

I AM PART OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG RECALL FOR 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS. AS A CONSUMER, I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR ALMOST 12 MONTHS AND I AM JUST NOW RECEIVING A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ABOUT IT. ALL THE LETTER SAYS IS THAT TOYOTA IS TRYING TO FIND PARTS WITH NO FURTHER INFORMATION OR DATE WHEN THE AIRBAG WILL BE REPLACED. IN THE MEANTIME, TOYOTA ASKS ME NOT TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS NEGLIGENTLY STRETCHED THE RECALL NOTICE LONG PAST WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DISCOVERED. TOYOTA STILL DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE RECALL LETTER SETS NO TIMETABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE REMEDY IS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I KNOW THE US GOVERNMENT HAS SUED OVER THIS AIRBAG ISSUE. WHEN DOES THE ACTUAL CONSUMER BENEFIT FROM A SUITABLE REMEDY?
