TAKATA RECALL. THE PARKING LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, AND WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A TOYOTA DEALER. THEY RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE ECU, WHICH WE DID. THIS DIDN'T FIX IT. THE CAR GOT WORSE AND STARTED SHAKING WHEN I DROVE AND WHEN I STOPPED IT WOULD SHAKE AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM SERVICED. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND A DANGEROUS FLAW IN THESE VEHICLES.
WHILE EXECUTING A SLOW SPEED LEFT TURN(10-15MPH) I BRAKED LIGHTLY TO EXECUTE ANOTHER LEFT TURN WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD ALONG WITH DIMINISHED BRAKE POWER AND A GRINDING NOISE. I APPLIED THEM AGAIN A LITTLE MORE AGGRESSIVE TO STOP MY VEHICLE..SAME RESPONSE. I COASTED TO ABOUT 2-3MPH AND THE LIGHTS WERE STILL SHOWING BUT I RECOVERED BRAKE POWER. AT MY DESTINATION(3 BLOCKS AWAY) I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. ON MY RETURN TRIP BACK HOME, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF DASH WARNING LIGHTS AND I HAD FULL BRAKING POWER. @HOME I IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOYOTA USA AND THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY ONGOING PROBLEM. AFTER GOING ON AN ONLINE FORUM I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM...SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY GOING TO TOYOTA FOR THE PROBLEM, AND SOME OF THOSE STATED THE PROBLEM RETURNED..MY SON RAN AN OBDII DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND NUMEROUS CODES FOR THE ABS ANS ECU AND BRAKEBOOSTER SYSTEM.FIXES RANGE FROM LOW BRAKE FLUID TO A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF SAID SYSTEMS COSTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLRS. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ADDRESS. I HAVE HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BRAKES ROTORS WARPING. NEW ONES DO NOT LAST VERY LONG BEFORE THEY WARP. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 155,000 MILES. MY I HAVE ASKED MY TRUSTED SERVICE MECHANICS TO USE TOYOTA PARTS. THE DEALERSHIP PARTS DEPARTMENT TOLD MY MECHANICS THAT THEY DO NOT RECOMMEND REPLACING THE ROTOR WITH A THE ORIGINAL TOYOTA PART AS THEY HAVE BEEN WARPING. THEY RECOMMEND UP SIZING THE ROTORS, WHICH IS WHAT TOYOTA HAS DONE ON SOME VEHICLE. I HAVE TALKED TO A TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT REPLACING THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES. THEY GAVE ME A QUOTE BUT SAID THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ANY WARRANTY ON BRAKES. I TALKED TO TOYOTA'S 800 NUMBER THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR ELIGIBLE UPGRADES AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE CAMPAIGN THEY HAD FOR THE BRAKES. THEY WOULD NOT ELABORATE IF ANY OF THE 2003 SEQUOIAS WERE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKES OR BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE UNDERSIZED WHICH IS MANIFESTED BY THE REPEAT WARPING OF THE ROTORS. THE UNDERSIZED BRAKES COULD BE A HAZARD UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE CONTACT REGAINED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER (FRONTIER TOYOTA, 23621 CREEKSIDE RD, VALENCIA, CA 91355), BUT NO FAILURE COULD BE FOUND AND THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TO BE IN GOOD STANDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST ELEVEN YEARS REGARDING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ILLUMINATION AND THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
DEFECTIVE ABS SYSTEM SINCE INITIAL PURCHASE. AT FIRST, AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT NOW A SAFETY HAZARD. BRAKE LIGHT, VSC LIGHT &TRAC LIGHT CONSTANTLY ARE ON & NOW ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS GOING ONLY 10 MPH BRAKES ARE AFFECTED WHERE THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE & BRAKES DON'T FUNCTION PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD THE YAW SENSOR WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS COSTING $880, BUT IT DIDN'T; NOW ITS THE SKID CONTROL ANOTHER $875 WHICH I AGREED TO & WHEN CALLING TO GET STATUS OF MY CAR, I'M TOLD IT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE & NOW IT'S THE BOOSTER ANOTHER $1,000 WHICH I'M NOT PAYING. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS ISSUE MAKES IT A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE. MY CAR IS STILL SITTING IN THE SHOP AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT.
2003 SEQUOIA VSC RECALL.
I HAVE A 2003 SEQUOIA WITH 253,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WHILE DRIVING ON A FLAT, DRY ROAD AT ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR AND SLOWING FOR AN UPCOMING STOPLIGHT, MY VSC OFF, VSC TRAC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL SUDDENLY CAME ON. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR VEHICLE. I AM STRUGGLING NOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW L WILL AFFORD TO TAKE THIS CAR IN FOR REPAIR AND L AM ANGERED AT BEING PUT IN THIS POSITION. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE, LUXURY SUV WHEN WE BOUGHT IT AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD OWN UP TO THIS BAD PART. IF I'D WANTED A CRAPPY MADE CAR, L WOULDN'T HAVE WASTED $40K ON THIS ONE.
MY VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ABS SKID CONTROL. WHEN THE MECHANIC RAN THE CHECK IT CAME BACK WITH ERROR CODES C1203, C1223, C1247. I PURCHASED HATED THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAVE A GROWING FAMILY AND I NEEDED THE THIRD ROW SEATING.THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE TO STOP QUICKLY, WHICH IS A A SAFETY CONCERN. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER AND THE SKID CONTROL OR ANTI LOCKING BRAKES.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE ABS, VSC TRAC AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE. SINCE THEN I NOTICE A PROBLEM WHEN I BRAKE AT HIGHER SPEEDS THE CAR SEEMS TO SHAKE AS THOUGH THE ABS IS NOT BEING APPLIED PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS WHICH WAS A SIMPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE. NOW THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THESE PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. HOW DO I KNOW THAT A SIMPLE UPDATE IS NOT THE FIX OR THAT THE NEW PARTS WONT HAVE A SIMILAR ISSUE IN THE MEANTIME I AM STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT'S NOT BRAKING PROPERLY WHEN IT SEEMS THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURE
NHTSA'S CONCLUSION THAT THE SAS ECU FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH TOYOTA SEQUOIAS BUILT FROM 2002-2003 UNDER NHTSA INVESTIGATION # 10V176000 IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED. WHILE TYPICALLY THE SUDDEN FAILURE TO ACCELERATE OR FAIL TO BRAKE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE IS ONLY ANNOYING, IT CAN BE CATASTROPHIC UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. FOR INSTANCE WE HAD IT HAPPEN IN A PARKING LOT WHEN BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE AND THEN NOTICING A CAR PULLING OUT QUICKLY IN OUR PATH. OUR BRAKES FAILED, THE TRACTION AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIT, AND WE BARELY MISSED THE CAR AS IT NOTICED US COMING AT IT AND QUICKLY GOT OUT OF THE WAY. WHAT IF THE CAR HADN'T NOTICED IN TIME TO PULL AWAY QUICKLY AND AVOID OUR UNCONTROLLABLE CAR? WHAT IF IT WERE A CHILD RUNNING OUT BETWEEN CARS? WHAT IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN DURING OUR LOW SPEED ACCELERATING AND BRAKING WHEN WE DROP OUR KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND OTHER KIDS ARE WALKING AMONG THE CARS NOW AND THEN? THE CONCLUSION THAT IT IS NOT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE SPEEDS INVOLVED IN MOST INCIDENTS REPORTED IS SIMPLY IGNORANT OR RECKLESSLY RISK TOLERANT. DOES SOMEONE ACTUALLY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE? WE WILL TRY TO GET THE DEALER TO MAKE THIS REPAIR BUT SINCE THEIR ARE "NO ACTIVE RECALLS" LISTED ON TOYOTA'S WEBSITE FOR THIS OR ON NHTSA'S, I CAN ONLY HOPE THEY WILL FIX IT.
PARKING BRAKE DISINTEGRATED INTO A PILE OF PARTS. I HAD HAD THE BRAKE REPLACED TWICE, AND WAS DETERMINED TO FIND OUT HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHEN I DRIVE AND BRAKE NORMALLY. I HAD 6 MECHANICS LOOK AT IT EXTENSIVELY UNTIL THE LAST ONE FIGURED IT OUT. WHAT WE DETERMINED: 2003 SEQUOIA'S BRAKE DESIGN SWIVELS THE GRIPPING "WINGS" (C-SHAPED) FROM ONE SINGLE PIN (OR POINT) TO GRIP THE CENTER TO HOLD THE CAR IN PLACE. THIS DESIGN ALLOWS THESE TWO "WINGS" TO CATCH ON EACH OTHER. SINCE THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE AND GO IN REVERSE, I AM FORCED TO GO "FORWARD", TO UNHITCH THESE TWO PIECES, IN ORDER TO BACK UP. (NEWER DESIGNS USE TWO PINS FOR THE TWO BRAKE "WINGS", SO THEY DO NOT CATCH ON EACH OTHER.) I HAVE LEARNED THE ONLY WAY AROUND THIS WAS TO ALWAYS PARK IN A PLACE THAT I CAN PULL FORWARD. SINCE THAT IS NOT USUALLY POSSIBLE, I AM NOT ABLE TO SET THE PARKING BRAKE MOST TIMES. I END UP RELYING ON MY ENGINE TO HOLD THE CAR IN GEAR TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING...NOT A SAFE WAY TO PARK! I DO BELIEVE THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS, BUT THEY MISSED MY 2003 MODEL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MY ENGINE MAY NOT STAY IN GEAR ONE OF THESE MOMENTS. CAN ANYONE HELP?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD AND THE BRAKES BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL RAPIDLY UNTIL THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. THE VSC TRACK AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VSC SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA FOR UNDERCARRIAGE RUSTING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR TREATMENT. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT AND I PICKED IT UP THE NEXT DAY. SIX MONTHS LATER (I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE VEHICLE), WHILE DRIVING THE SEQUOIA, WHICH I NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH BEFORE, I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THOUGHT THAT WITH THE NEW TREATMENT IT WAS JUST BURNING OFF THE EXCESS. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS HAD RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT I COULD RUB MY HAND ON THEM AND RUB THE METAL OFF. I CALLED THE DEALER TO ASK THEM WHAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TREATED WITH BECAUSE IN ALL THE YEARS THAT I HAD THE VEHICLE THE ROTORS HAD NEVER RUSTED. I WAS TOLD "IT WASN'T CAUSED BY WHAT THEY DID" AND THAT THEY "SEE RUSTED ROTORS ALL THE TIME", BUT WAS NEVER TOLD WHAT CHEMICALS WERE USED IN THE TREATMENT. I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY REPLACED ON ALL WHEELS TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFE AGAIN. I'M TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE THAT THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THAT THIS HAPPENED IS WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF THE "UNDERCARRIAGE RUST TREATMENT" THAT I WAS TOLD HAD TO BE APPLIED TO PREVENT RUST BY TOYOTA. I BELIEVE THE RUST INHIBITOR TREATMENT IS FRAUDULENT AND CAUSES OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLES SUCH AS MINE. *TR
STREET LIGHTS CAME ON, SVC, TRACK OFF AND ABS. THAT WILL COST AROUND $1150. PLUS TAXES. THAT I THINK IS NOT RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S BEEN MANY COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS MATTER. RECEIVED TOYOTA FACTORY RECALL FOR CORROSION-RESISTANT COMPOUND DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. CALLED LOCAL DEALER AND ALSO FACTORY TOYOTA FOR APPOINTMENT. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONE DAY LATER RECEIVED PHONE CALL THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SAFE AND THAT THEY HAD SPRAYED THIS COATING ON THE VEHICLE. I PICKED UP VEHICLE AND THIS CORROSIVE CHEMICAL IS DRIPPING OF THE VEHICLE AND IS NOT DRYING. CONCERNED FOR ENVIRONMENT AND ALSO, I HAVE NO IDEA OF HOW VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED ASSURING THAT THE FRAME IS SAFE.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2004 WE NOTICED THAT THE TRACTION LIGHTS ARE COMING ON PERIODICALLY. WE TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA SERVICE TO CHECK THE ISSUE AND BEEN CHARGED HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSIS AND SENSOR REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED AND EVEN GOT WORST: THE TRACTION AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE CONTINUOUSLY ON NOW. IN 2010 WE RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT A RECALL WITH REGARD TO THE ABOVE ISSUE AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP LOCATED AT 4248 MORSE RD., COLUMBUS, OH 43230. THE CAR WAS SERVICED BUT A FEW HOURS AFTERWARDS ALL THE LIGHTS WERE ON AGAIN. WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT WE WERE TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS ON THE VEHICLE COMPUTER ADJUSTMENT, WHICH WAS DONE, AND THAT AND ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICES WILL BE CHARGED IN FULL. WE LOOKED UP THE RECALL DOCUMENT AND REALIZED THAT IT IS CLEARLY SPECIFIED UNDER REMEDY THAT: IF THE REFLASH CANNOT BE COMPLETED ON A PARTICULAR VEHICLE, THE ECU WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THE MANUFACTURER DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL REQUIREMENTS WE WOULD LIKE TO BRING THE ISSUE TO YOUR ATTENTION AND SEEK YOUR INTERVENTION. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED A USED 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2 DAYS AGO FROM THE DEALER. ALTHOUGH, THE VEHICLE COMES UNDER NO WARRANTY, I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A DEFECT THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 OWNERS. THE PROBLEM ' TRAC OFF LIGHT CAME ON, VSC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEED TO SEE THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS THE SKID ECU AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT $1200.00 FOR THE PART AND $232.30 FOR LABOR. THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS IS THE BRAIN OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE ABS WILL LOCK UP AND THE BRAKES WILL FAIL. THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FROM THOUSAND OAKS TOYOTA DEALER ON JAN 22, 2011. I NOTICED ON THE THIRD WEEK OF DRIVING IT, THE BRAKE LIGHT, AND VSC LIGHT WOULD GO ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AOG COMPUTER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS UPDATE WOULD MOST LIKELY FILX THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE AOG WAS UPDATED12 MAR 2011, NOW BOTH THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE VSC TRACK OFF LIGHTS COME ON, AND THE BRAKES SHUDDER TO A STOP. UNFORTUNATELY THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EACH AND EVERYTIME I'M DRIVING THE CAR, BUT RATHER SPORADICALLY. I'VE TAKEN THE SUV BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SEEM TO BE GUESSING AS TO THE PROBLEM, AND SOLUTION. THEY HAVE SUGGESTED THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER, HOWEVER BLOGS THAT I HAVE READ ON THIS ISSUE INDICATE CHANGING THESE PARTICULAR PARTS WILL NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. MY PERSONAL MECHANIC HAS SUGGESTED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER ARE NOT THE ISSUE, BUT RATHER RELATED TO THE WHOLE BREAKING COMPUTER SYSTEM. HE STRONGLY SUGGESTED THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ADDRESS AND FIX. THAT IN FACT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM PERTAINING TO THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER AND ECM. I'VE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AS A FAMILY VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY, AND I CERTAINLY DON'T FEEL SAFE USING THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT ANY ONE IN. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2007 WITH 43,000 MILES. SINCE THEN I HAVE DRIVEN 30,000 MILES IN 4 YEARS. WHEN I FIRST PICK THIS CAR IT LOOKED GREAT. LATER, I BROUGHT IT IN TO HAVE MY GAS TANK LEVEL INDICATOR REPAIRED BUT WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS TIME CONSUMING AND BASICALLY WAS ADVISED THAT THE DASHBOARD HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT SO, I DIDNT GET IT DONE. I REPLACED MY BATTERY, CONSTANTLY HAD MY OIL CHANGED, AS THE PAINT STARTED TO PEEL ON MY LEFT FRONT FENDER. TIE RODS WERE REPLACED THAT HAD BROKEN, WHICH WAS COVERED BY THE PLATINUM COVERAGE THAT I PURCHASED FOR 1000.00. IVE HAD A VSC LOGIC RELAY REPLACED AND TRIM REPAIRED THAT WAS LIFTING OFF. NOW MY COVERAGE ON THE PLATINUM PLAN WAS OVER 4-10-2010 ON THE 17TH OF AUGUST MY REAR WINDOW WOULD NOT GO DOWN, ABOUT THREE DAYS LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. ON THE 19TH THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL INITIATED AND WHEN ITS INITIATED TO GO OFF THE CENTER WILL CONTINUE TO BE ENGAGED, BLINKING. EVEN TILL TODAY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED UP YOU HAVE TO DIS-ENGAGE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE. SO I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA . THATS WHEN THIS FINAL HORROR BEGAN. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED (SUNDAY), AND THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY) I TOOK IT BACK FOR SERVICE. I OWN A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. ABOUT A MONTH AGO HAD TO STOP THE CAR ABRUPTLY UNDER RAIN TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH A VEHICLE THAT FAILED TO PERFORM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. I USE TO COMMUTE IN HEAVY SLOW TRAFFIC IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHEN MY BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN USING THE BRAKES IN TRAFFIC. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM.. IT WAS A KNOWN LOGIC PROBLEM WITH THE ECU. WE ARE LUCKY SO FAR THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL-OVER AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN-IT BACK ON TO CLEAR THE ABS FAULT AND CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT. TOYOTA SERVICE IS TELLING ME THE ECU NEEDS REPLACEMENT AT MY EXPENSE FOR A COST OF OVER $1500. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BECAUSE OF THE ADDITIONAL SAFETY PROVIDED BY THE ABS AND VSC SYSTEM, AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE ENSURING THAT THIS SAFETY SYSTEM IS WORKING AND SHOULD HAVE HAD PUT A RECALL OUT ON THE COMPUTER BACK IN 2006 FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR REFERENCE, THE NHTSA HAS THIS RECORDED AS INCIDENT #PE68072 AND EA09006. *TR

IF THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT HAS THE CAPABILITY OF CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE ABRUPTNESS OF THE ISSUE WHILE DRIVING, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE. TOYOTA HAS AN ISSUE HERE THAT PUTS ITS OWNERS IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IF THERE WERE HABITUAL SEAT BELT ISSUES OR AIRBAG ISSUES THIS WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION. THE TRACTION CONTROL AND VSC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE ANTI-SKID COMPUTER SYSTEM AND RECOMMENDED THAT IT BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

WHEN I QUESTIONED THE IMMEDIATE NEED FOR THIS REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THAT FAILURE TO HAVE REPAIRS EFFECTED PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

THEN AT THE SAME TIME, A STRANGE GRINDING SOUND COMES FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR, AND THE BRAKES SEEM TO START WORKING FOR NO REASON. I QUICKLY PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE CAR. I CHECK THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND SEE NO INDICATION OF RUNNING OVER ANYTHING. I THEN START THE CAR AND ALL THE LIGHTS ARE BACK TO NORMAL (OFF). I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR INTO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A FEW LIGHTS THAT WE ON IN MY DASH. THE SPECIFIC LIGHTS WERE THE VSC, VSC OFF AND THE ABS LIGHTS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 47,000 MILES AND WAS OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP TO 60,000, BUT IT WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I DECIDED TO PASS. THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY FOR MY CAR WAS 55,000 MILES I BELIEVE AND THE LIGHTS CAME ON AT 55,500 MILES....OF COURSE. HAD NO CRUISE CONTROL BEFORE THIS, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED THE YEAR BEFORE DURING THE SAME WET TREK ACROSS COUNTRY! THE TOYOTA DEALER IN SAGINAW MICHIGAN TOLD US THAT THE COMPUTER CONTROLLING THE VTRAC AND ABS WAS DISPLAYING FAULT CODES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, COST $1200. THIS IS A 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH 70K MILES ON IT NOW (THE FAULT HAPPENED AROUND 66K MILES) WHICH IS NOW MUCH HARDER TO HANDLE UNDER HEAVY BRAKING, WHICH WE NEED MORE AND MORE WITH THE LOW QUALITY DRIVERS OUT THERE. BRAKING AGAIN COMPROMISED, HEARD LOUD "CLUNKING SOUND" COMING FROM CAR WHILE DRIVING. IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT TO SCOTTSDALE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. AGAIN, SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM AND RETURNED CAR WITH NO REPAIR. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A COMPLAINT. TOYOTA INDICATED COMPLAINT IS NOW ON RECORD. PROBLEM WITH DASH BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON AND BRAKING DIMINISHED RECURRED AGAIN 8/27/08. AFTER SHUTTING ENGINE OFF, INDICATOR NO LONGER LIT AND BRAKING BACK TO NORMAL. THE BRAKES ON MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ARE OBVIOUSLY UNDERSIZED FOR THE VEHICLE WEIGHT. ALTHOUGH FACTORY EQUIPPED FOR TOWING, THIS IS EXASPERATED WHEN PULLING A TRAILER. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN STOP IF FOLLOWING AT THE RECOMMENDED INTERVAL AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME STOPS HARD. I HAVE HAD TO VEER ONTO THE SHOULDER NUMEROUS TIMES TO AVOID A REAR-END COLLISION, AND I MAINTAIN A GREATER DISTANCE THAN IS SUGGESTED BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED A DESIGN FLAW BY ISSUING A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON HOW TO INSTALL LARGER BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA (2WD) WITHOUT WARNING THE VSC/TRAC SYSTEM ENGAGED WHILE TURNING ON DRY PAVEMENT CAUSING A LOSS IN ACCELERATION. THIS WAS THE INITIAL INCIDENT WHICH WAS FOLLOWED BY MULTIPLE OTHER INCIDENTS AT RANDOM INTERVALS. INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE MAKING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS FROM A TURNING OR STOPPING POSITION. TRAC OFF "BUTTON" DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE SYSTEM AS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL FROM A LOW SPEED. LOCAL DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND RECOMMENDED NEW TIRES/BRAKES BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY ANY "PROBLEMS" WITH THE VSC SYSTEM OTHER THAN THE VSC SYSTEM HAD ENGAGED. AFTER 4 NEW TIRES AND NEW REAR BRAKES WERE INSTALLED SERVICE TECH DROVE VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE. HE RECOMMENDED DOCUMENTING WHEN THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IN ORDER TO DETERMINE REPAIR OPTIONS. THE VSC SYSTEM CONTINUES TO ENGAGE RANDOMLY CAUSING A LOSS IN ACCELERATION WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IS DANGEROUS IF DRIVER HAS NEED TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC IN INSTANCES SUCH AS TURNING ONTO MAJOR ROADWAYS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AS USUAL TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY 7/29/2007 WHEN I NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE TRAC OFF LIGHT AND THE VSC LIGHTS WERE ON AFTER READING THE OWNERS MANUAL I DETERMINED THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO TOYOTA. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED AND IT WOULD COST ME ALMOST 2500.00 TO REPAIR. WHEN TALKING TO THE ASSOCIATE, HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE SYSTEMS THAT HAD GONE BAD HAD TO DO WITH THE WAY THE VEHICLE WILL BE CONTROLLED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. WHEN I QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE HE TOLD ME THAT PEOPLE HAD BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT THOSE UNITS FOR YEARS AND MY BREAKS MAY LOCK UP BUT DON'T TRY TO STOP WHILE GOING FAST. I INFORMED HIM THAT TOYOTA HAD REPLACED THE COMPUTER BOARD FOR MY BREAKS EARLIER (BRAKE LIGHTS STILL COMING ON) AND ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THESE THINGS WERE GOING BAD AT THE SAME TIME. HE SAID IT WAS NOT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. IN TRYING TO FIND SOME KIND OF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, I READ ON TUNDRA SOLUTIONS WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. I AM ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE ONGOING PROBLEM FOR 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, VCS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON. SO THIS PAST WEEKEND BEING ON A TRIP THE LIGHT COME ON AND WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GAVES US A SURPRISE REPAIR $1,448.50 FOR PART 89541-0C062 AND 896300C011 $751.54 SO WITH LABOR SOME IN THE 2,500 DLS. SO I TOLD THE SERVICE GUY WHAT WAS THE RISK OF DRIVING THIS UNIT LIKE THAT. IN MY OWN WORDS IS LIKE HAVING AN 1980'S SUBURBAN. MY HUSBAND DID A RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ON TUNDRASULUTIONS ETC. AND THERE ARE A LOT OF CASES OF THIS PROBLEM AROUSING AROUND 40,000 MILES OR LESS. WE HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD SON AND WE ARE "SCARED" TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK WITHOUT OF ANY OF THE SAFETY FEATURES NOW I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL COMPUTER AND THE MAIN COMPUTER NEEDED TO REPLACE AND THAT THIS WILL DISABLE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROLS. SO THIS MEANS THAT I HAVE A 1980 SUBURBAN. WE ARE VERY UPSET BECAUSE WE CALL TOYOTA AND THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, THEY REFER ME TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER THAT PROBABLY CAN OFFER ME A DISCOUNT OUTSIDE WARRANTY. WE NEED NHTSA TO START INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF USERS THAT ALREADY PAID FOR THIS REPAIR THAT DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT. CALLED AMERICAN TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY BRUSHED ME OFF. I TOLD THEM I WORK FOR HONDA AS A TECHNICIAN AND TOLD THEM HONDA IS VERY GOOD IN ASSISTING CUSTOMERS WITH AFTER WARRANTY REPAIRS. STILL THEY DID NOT CARE. I STILL HAVE NOT HAVE VEHICLE REPAIRED. MY VSC/TRAC SENSOR HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF AND EVERY TIME I NEEDED TO HAVE IT CHECK, THE PROBLEM NEVER APPEARS. EXCEPT FOR TODAY, THE LIGHT HAS STAYED ON AND MY MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSED AND VERIFIED IT WITH TOYOTA'S TSB AS A DEFECTIVE VSC/TRAC ECU AND HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND INSTALLATION OF THE NEW ECU. SEVERAL TSB'S ARE POSTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FOR MY VEHICLE YEAR AND MAKE. MY COMPLAINT IS, I FEEL THAT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT A COMPUTER DEVICE THAT PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN THE SAFETY PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED WITHIN 5 YEARS, ESPECIALLY FOR A CONSIDERABLE COST TO HAVE IT REPLACE AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 64000 MILES. VSC/ABD LIGHTS CAME ON AND DID COME OFF. THE BRAKES FAILED ON ONE OCCASION AND QUICKLY CAME BACK, BUT MADE METAL GRINDING NOISE. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER, AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WA S BEING TOLD O REPLACE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THEY SAID SINCE THERE WAS A TSB, THAT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO COVER 1/2 THE COST. ROTORS HAVE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION, DESPITE GOOD PADS. TURNING AND REPLACING DO NOT HELP--PROBLEM APPEARS ASSOCIATED WITH POOR DESIGN--ROTORS AND PADS ARE SIMPLY TOO SMALL FOR SUV. *JB

THIS FAILURE REQUIRES THAT VSC/ABS SKID CONTROL ECU BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1300 - $2100 DEPENDING ON LOCATION. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER OR, BY GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE DEFECT AND THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENTS AND/OR DEATH RESULTING FROM THE DEFECTIVE COMPUTER SYSTEM CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOCK UP AND LOSE POWER. *JB

CURRENT FAILURE CLEARS AFTER IGNITION CYCLED BUT DEALER SAYS FAIL CODES DO EXIST THAT SHOW COMPUTER IS FAILING. TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE COMPUTER IF UNDER WARRANTY. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWED COUNTLESS FAILURES OF VTRAC COMPUTER ON THIS MODEL AND THE TUNDRA WITH THE FULL FAILURE CAUSING VEHICLES AT HIGH SPEED TO GO FROM 70 MPH TO 1 WITH NO POWER ASSISTANCE AND UNCONTROLLED DECELERATION. TOYOTA IS AWARE BUT DOING NOTHING TO REMEDY EXCEPT REPAIR IF BROUGHT IN AT OWNER EXPENSE IF NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *JB

THE FAILURE CODES IN THE COMPUTER INDICATE THAT THE SKID CONTROL ECU NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS EXPENSIVE AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, BUT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA VIA A SAFETY RECALL WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION. I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB

WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AND THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY; WE TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WHICH SEEMED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEN ABOUT 9 MO TO A YEAR LATER THE LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AGAIN AND THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE, TOYOTA STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUID AND THE MASTER CYLINDER AT OUR COST BECAUSE WE HAD TAKEN IT ELSEWHERE AND THEY FELT THAT IT HAD CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID, WHICH OUR MECHANIC STATED IN WRITING WAS NOT. ALTHOUGH WE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE TOYOTA FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY; WE GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THROUGH OUR OWN MECHANIC AND THEN SHORTLY LATER THE BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN A CRASH ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE SEQ WOULD BE REPAIRED VIA INS THERE WAS A CODE THAT SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT SHOWED THAT BRAKES INDEED DID FAIL; HOWEVER WHEN TAKING IT TO TOYOTA THE SAME CODE DID NOT SHOW UP. THE VEHICLE DID WELL, HOWEVER WE LIVE BY A DIRT ROAD AND WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD OR GOING AROUND A CORNER QUICKLY THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS GO ON AND NOW THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WON'T GO WHEN THE TRAC SYSTEM IS ON AND YOU SLOW DOWN OR START UP AGAIN--AT PRESENT THE SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF; IT HAS REALLY NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. *NM

THIS OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE DURING NORMAL BRAKING ON NORMAL AND SNOW COVERED ROADS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES FOR INSPECTION DUE TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. UPON INSPECTIONS, THE DEALERSHIP RESET THE COMPUTER TO MAKE THE LIGHTS GO OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. UPDATED 3/9/2006 - *NM
VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHEN PUT IN TO GEAR. VSC TRAC AND VSC OFF LIGHTS LIGHT UP AND BUZZER SOUNDS. ONCE THE LIGHTS AND BUZZER GO OFF THE GRINDING STOPS BUT THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FEELS VERY LOOSE, LIKE IT IS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT 2 COMPUTERS , THE VSC COMPUTER AND THE TRANSLATOR COMPUTER, FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INSTANCES OF THIS OCCURRENCE, AND THAT THE SOFTWARE USED IN THE COMPUTERS WAS BAD. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AT 39K MILES AND THE WARRANTY WAS UP AT 36K. TOYOTA HAS BEEN NEGLIGENT IN THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND THERE IS NO RECALL OR WARRANTY FOR THESE DEFECTS. FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON THE INTERNET OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. MY FRIEND WHO HAD A 2001 MODEL HAD THE VEHICLE TAKEN IN AND THE WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACED DUE TO A TSB. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERS THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TSB ONLY AFFECTED THE YEARS 2000 & 2001. HOWEVER, THE 2003 SEEMS TO HAVE PROBLEMS, TOO! I'VE NEVER HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT 6700 MILES THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME MY FRONT BRAKES HAD PREMATURE WEARING AND ACCUSED ME OF BRAKING TOO HARD BUT AGREED TO HAVE TO HAVE THEM REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE ROOTERS WERE MACHINED. THE SECOND TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND AT 17,500 MILES OUR FRONT BRAKES WERE TOUCHING METAL TO METAL. THE ROTERS WERE ALSO RESURFACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $500.00. AT THAT TIME THE SERVICE MANAGER CONVINCED US THAT THIS WAS NORMAL I'VE HAD OTHER MECHANICS SAY IT IS NOT. AT 30,000 MILES I WAS INFROMED THAT MY FRONT AND BACK BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE ROTERS AGAIN WERE RESURFACED. WE WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND PAID $400. I'VE READ THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE SEQUOIA IS INADEQUATE, TUNDRAS ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THE CALIPERS ARE TOO SMALL THUS CAUSING WARPING AND THE BRAKES TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY.
THE VSC AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON OUR TOYOTA SEQOUIA 2003( 4WD LTD, 9000 MILES) COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING AND GOES OFF USUALLY WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. THE CARS SEEM TO HANDLE FINE BUT I AM CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY.
WE PURCHASED A 2003 SEQUOIA IN AUGUST OF 2003. THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THE HOOD LATCH CAME OFF NO BIGGIE A $10 REPLACEMENT EVERYTHING A OK. NEXT CAME THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IT ALWAYS READ LOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS FIXED, THE CAUSE WAS A FAULTY SENDER, NO CHARGE TO ME. ON A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE I ASKED FOR THE ALARM TO BE CHECK BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS SILENT. TO MY SURPRISE THE HORN HAD COME OFF LUCKY FOR ME IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS REPLACED. ALL THIS TIME THE VSC/ TRAC OFF LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THE DEALER CAN'T COME UP WITH A PROBLEM AND THEY SAY JUST RESTART THE CAR AND THEY SHOULD COME OFF. NOW THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM MY DASH AND THE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON AGAIN SO OFF TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE SOUND AND THE LIGHTS WELL MAYBE ITS MY BRAKES AND I HAVE TO GET THOSE REPLACED. I DECIDED TO WAIT ON THAT. OK NOW SINCE MY KIDS LIKE TO RIDE WITH THE BACK WINDOWS DOWN AND I CAN'T STAND THE PRESSURE AND SOUND IN THE CAR. (IT SOUND AS IF I'M IN A HELICOPTER) I DECIDE TO ROLL THE BACK WINDOW DOWN TO STABALIZE THE PRESSURE AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW IT DOESN'T WORK AND NOW MY VSC / TRAC OFF AND ABS LIGHTS ARE ALL ON "ALL THE TIME" . NOW I'M AT THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN (EVERYONE THERE KNOWS ME BY NAME NOW) . THE VSC/ TRAC OFF AND ABS LIGHT WELL THAT WAS A SENSOR THAT NEEDED REPLACING AND THE WINDOW WELL GUESS WHAT THAT WAS THE GRINDING SOUND I HAD HEARD BEFORE . THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BE READY TO PAY ABOUT $800 IN PARTS AND LABOR. LUCKY FOR ME I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I WAS LEFT WITH JUST MY DEDUCTIBLE. I HAVE OWNED 3 TOYOTAS IN THE PAST AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD THAT PEACE OF MIND "ITS A TOYOTA" BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE. TOYOTA IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. I STILL LOVE THE SPACE AND COMFORT OF THE SEQUOIA BUT WOULD RATHER DO WITHOUT ALL THE SERVICE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP.
WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT/TRAC LIGHT, AND ABS BRAKING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THEN, VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM RECURRED AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
BRAKING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS - ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS HAVE COME ON REQUIRING THAT I PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF TO RESET THE LIGHTS. ERROR CODES IN THE COMPUTER HAVE RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE BOOSTER / MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT, BRAKE FLUID SENSOR CHECK, BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH ADJUSTMENT. BRAKING ON THIS VEHICLE IS INCONSISTANT WITH OVERALL CONCERNS REGARDING BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. *AK
VSC/TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON DASH WHEN VEHICLE IS SIMPLY SITTING IN A PARKING SPACE, PULLING OUT OF PAVED DRY RELATIVELY FLAT DRIVEWAY, AND DRIVING BELOW 20 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT. PROBLEM IS ONGOING WHERE THE VSC/TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT COMES ON ALMOST EVERYDAY. FIRST TIME TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD IT WOULD RESET ITSELF WHEN SUV IS RESTARTED. WHEN TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP SECOND TIME A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, WAS TOLD AN ERROR WAS FOUND AND THEY RESET IT. STILL EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM AND HAVE SCHEDULED A THIRD APPOINTMENT WITH DEALERSHIP FOR JANUARY 13, 2004 TO TRY TO GET PROBLEM RESOLVED AGAIN.*AK

BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING PREMATURELY.*MR CONSUMER HEARD A SCRATCHING NOISE LIKE A ROCK WAS STUCK IN THE ROTORS. WHEN ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED, HE WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE ON A BACK ORDER.*TS *JB
I OWN A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. AT 10,740 MILES, THE FRONT DISC BRAKES WERE WORN OUT AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER AND SUGGESTS AN UNDERSIZED DESIGN OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. TOYOTA DID PERFORM A "COURTESY" REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKES BUT I AM CONCERNED THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE NEEDING INVESTIGATION. *LA
