The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the vehicle was rusted and towed to the local dealer and diagnosed that the rear differential casing and steering column needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 240,000.Note: While driving, a loud grinding noise was heard and the vehicle was shaking. 1 pulled over and had the car towed. It was determined the rear differential casing was completely rusted and the oil leaked out. It-was also determined the Steering column was completely rusted. The vehicle was recalled in 2012, due to rust issues. The dealership stated they would do the recall work but the vehicle was in poor shape. When I contacted Toyota, they said it was a courtesy recall and will not do any further. Consumer is asking for assistance with the cost of repair due to poor workmanship.
WHEN TAKING MY 2003 SEQUOIA TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING ISSUE I WAS HAVING, I WAS TOLD THE FRAME WAS SO RUSTED OUT IS WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO COVER ANY COSTS INVOLVED IN REPAIRING OR REPLACING THE FRAME.

THE LOCAL DEALER HENDRICK TOYOTA LOCATED AT 9505 W 67TH ST, MERRIAM, KS 66203 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IN 2013 UNDER A MANUFACTURERS CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000.

MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS RUST HOLES THROUGH MY FRAME TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT AS IT'S MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN THAT I HAVE TO TAKE WITH ME. TOYOTA USA SAID THEY PERFORMED A TREATMENT TO THE GRAM IN 2012 AND THAT THEIR IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY WILL DO TO RESOLVE THIS BLATANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE FACT SO MANY SEQUOIA OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE BY TOYOTA IS APPALLING. I HAVE SUBMITTED PICTURES OF AN AREA NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE SWAY BAR IS BARLEY BEING HELD ON DUE TO THE RUST.

AFTER DOING RESEARCH WE FOUND OUT THAT TOYOTA HAD A LIMITED FRAME REPAIR OFFER BUT WE MISSED THE DEADLINE. WE WERE NEVER TOLD BY TOYOTA OR THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE TEAM ABOUT THE RECALL OR THE DAMAGE TO OUR TRUCK. WE HAD OUR CAR SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MECHNIC THAT TOLD US ABOUT THE RUST TOLD US IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 120K MILES AND WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME WAS BADLY CORRODED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THREE HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRAME FRACTURED AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY TO HIS RESIDENCE. ONCE THE CONTACT ARRIVED HOME AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED THROUGH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO COATING ON THE FRAME, WHICH CAUSED THE METAL TO CORRODE BADLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO DAVENPORT TOYOTA WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED THROUGH AND THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
THE TRUNK LATCH/HANDLE/LOCK. I HAVE HAD IT REPLACED 3 TIMES BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THERE'S IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THERE'S NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. THE LAST TIME THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I. AUSTIN TEXAS REPLACES IT I HAD A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. IN EXACTLY 14 MONTHS THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN! THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO SAY THE LEAST AND I AM TIRED OF PAYING 600 (PARTS/LABOR) TO REPAIR, WHEN TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM! NOTE: WHEN THE HANDLE BREAKS THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE SPARE TIRE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO LIFE THE TRUNK TO ACCESS THE SPARE TIME. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TWICE SCORN TIRE ISSUES BECAUSE THE SPARE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED. THE LAST OCCURRENCE I WAS STRANDED ON SIDE OF THE ROAD AT 2AM.

MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA 4X4 LIMITED HAS ABOUT 230000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND SLOWED DOWN TO TAKE A TURN AND HEARD A LARGE "THUNK". I THEN CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND LATER AS I GOT UP TO ABOUT 60 VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER HEATH AND THE FRAME HAD SEPARATED DUE TO RUST AT THE STABILIZER BAR FOR THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FRAME. I WAS GOING TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE FRAME IS JUST RUST FOR THE FULL REAR SECTION OF THE FRAME AND HAS LARGE HOLES DUE TO RUST. IT IS DEFINITELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I FOUND OUT THAT IT HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS ISSUE TILL 2014. I REACHED OUT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TOYOTA KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE. I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY HELP. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN MAY 2018 FROM A PRIVATE PARTY AND TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THE RISK I TAKE PURCHASING PRIVATE PARTY.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE RUST FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
TRUCK FRAME ROTTED
I TOOK MY SEQUOIA TO THE DEALER FOR IT'S REGULAR SERVICE. I WAS CALLED AND TOLD THAT THERE IS A 50 CENT SIZE HOLE IN MY FRAME (PASSAGER SIDE) I WAS TOLD TOYOTA HAD A NIGHT MARE WITH MANY OF THERE SEQUOIAS HAVING HAD THE FRAME REPLACED. HE SAID ACCORDING TO TOYOTA MINE WAS RECALLED AND SPRAYED WITH SOME TYPE OF SPRAY OVER THE ENTIRE FRAME. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND I HAD IT DURING THE TIME HE REFERENCED AND TOYOTA NEVER CONTACTED ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE,NOR DID THEY SPRAY IT. FOR IF THEY DID YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL IT ALL OVER THE UNDER-BODY BECAUSE OF THE OVER SPRAY. THERE IN NOTHING UNDER THE BODY EXCEPT A RUSTED FAULTY FRAME. I CONTACTED TOYOTA THEY SAID THE SAME AS THE DEALER AND THAT IF MY SUV HAD BEEN A YEAR NEWER THEY WOULD PUT A NEW FRAME ON IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY USE THE EXACT SAME FRAME. TOYOTA KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING HERE.

I LIVE IN NORTHERN KY AND I WAS DRIVING WEST ON KY 20.I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE PULLS RIGHT AND THE BACK PULLS LEFT .WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE TO SAFELY STOP I NOTICED THE REAR FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BROKE IN HALF. IT BROKE BECAUSE IT RUSTED IN HALF.THIS COULD OF KILLED ME.LUCKILY NO ONE WAS COMING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RD. MY MECHANIC SAID THE FRAME RUSTED IN HALF. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2015 IM THE SECOND OWNER. I PAID 6000 FOR THE TRUCK PUT 1200 IN NEW WHEELS AND ANOTHER 2400 IN SAFETY AND PREVENTITIVE MAINTIENCE AT TOYOTA. I WOULD NOT EXSPECT THIS TO OCCURE.ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAD THE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTED. FRAME DEVELOPED 14MM RUST PERFORATION AT TRANSMISSION SUPPORT CROSS MEMBER DESPITE CORROSION RESISTANCE COMPOUND BEING APPLIED AS PART OF LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN BY THE MANUFACTURER. WEAKER FRAME REDUCES THE STRUCTURAL RIGIDITY AND COMPROMISES SAFETY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. SUDDEN FRAME FRACTURE MAY ALSO LEAD TO A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
OUR VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE BY A TOYOTA DEALER DUE TO AN EXCESSIVELY RUSTED FRAME THAT HAS PREMATURELY LOST ITS INTEGRITY. THE "LIMITED SERVICE" CAMPAIGN THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED BY TOYOTA ON OUR CAR (1/9/2013) WAS INEFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THE FRAME ON MY VEHICLE WAS ALREADY KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE AND IT WAS RECALLED BY TOYOTA FOR REPLACEMENT ON THE TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHY THEN HASN'T TOYOTA RECALLED THE VERY SAME FRAME ON THE TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON ACCOUNT OF A KNOWN DEFECTIVE AND UNSAFE FRAME?
FRAME IS ROTTED SO BAD THAT AXLE ROD SEPERATED FROM THE FRAME. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT HOME AS IT IS EXTREAMILY UNSAFE. REAR AXLE COULD FALL OFF THE VEHICLE. FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC FOR TIRE SERVICE
THE VEHICLE WAS SENT INTO TOYOTA WHEN WE RECEIVED A LETTER TO HAVE THE FRAME SPRAYED ,DUE TO LIVING IN COLD CLIMATE WHERE SALT WAS USED TO TREAT ROADS. NOW FRAME IS TOTALLY ROTTED AND RUSTED MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TOYOTA IS ONLY REPLACING THEIR TACOMAS AND NOT THE SEQUOIA FROM THE SAME YEAR.

MY CAR HAS 136,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE ISSUE IS RUST. THE WHOLE BOTTOM FRAME OF THE CAR IS COMPLETELY TAKEN BY RUST. ITS A HAZARD TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THE CAR WILL FALL APART! PLEASE HELP MAKE TOYOTA AWARE OF THIS SITUATION. THE CAR HAS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF RUST!!

I PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON MAY3, 2017. AFTER THE INSPECTION PERFORMED ON MAY 8, 2017, I LEARNED THAT THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED. IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR CERTAIN VINS OF THIS CAR FROM THE YEARS 2001--2004 (SEE HTTPS://WWW.TOYOHEADQUARTERS.COM/THREADS/2001-2004-TOYOTA-SEQUOIA-RUST-CORROSION-ON-FRAME-CONDITION-LSC-CSD.200/). I CHECKED WITH TOYOTA AND THE VIN ON MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT, BUT MY CAR DID GET A CORROSION RESISTANT TREATMENT FROM TOYOTA IN 2012. IT IS VERY CLEAR FROM THE PICTURES OF MY FRAME AND THE INSPECTION REPORT FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER THAT THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE (IT WON'T PASS INSPECTION). I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA FOR MY '03 SEQUOIA LIMITED AND TOOK IT TO KOLOSSO TOYOTA (APPLETON, WI) FOR FRAME INSPECTION AND APPLICATION OF A MATERIAL THAT PREVENTS CORROSION, DUE TO A RECALL, IN 2014. I CALLED KOLOSSO TO SCHEDULE MY TRUCK TO BE SEEN WELL BEFORE THE DUE DATE OF 7-31-14, IN JUNE 2014. KOLOSSO SAID IT HAD TO ORDER THE SPECIAL "KIT" TO APPLY MATERIAL TO MY FRAME AND SCHEDULED MY INSPECTION AND APPLICATION FOR EARLY AUGUST 2014, AFTER 7-31-14 (DUE DATE). THEY SAID THE KIT WOULDN'T ARRIVE UNTIL AUGUST AND THERE WAS NOTHING ANYONE COULD DO. EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE BECAUSE THE KIT WOULDN'T EVEN BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AUGUST 2014. I RECEIVED A FRANTIC CALL FROM KOLOSSO ON 7-13-14 WHILE I WAS WORKING LITERALLY 2 HOURS AWAY IN MILWAUKEE, WI THAT MY TRUCK HAD TO BE INSPECTED IN APPLETON THAT DAY IN ORDER FOR THE RECALL TO BE VALID. KOLOSSO SAID IT WAS THEIR FAULT FOR SCHEDULING ME IN AUGUST 2014 BUT TOYOTA SUDDENLY DEEMED 7-31-14 THE ABSOLUTE DEADLINE FOR THE RECALL. SO I HAD TO LEAVE WORK UNEXPECTEDLY TO DRIVE 2 HOURS AWAY FOR INSPECTION. AN EXTREME INCONVENIENCE! THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT COMPENSATE ME IN ANY WAY FOR MY UPSET. THEY PLACED ALL BLAME SQUARELY ON TOYOTA. I SAID, AS A CUSTOMER, I HAD DONE EVERYTHING THE DEALERSHIP SAID AND I HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG. THIS ARGUMENT WAS BETWEEN KOLOSSO AND TOYOTA BUT I WAS PENALIZED. AS OF THIS DATE, 2 YEARS LATER, KOLOSSO HAS STILL NOT APPLIED THE SPECIAL COATING TO MY FRAME TO PREVENT CORROSION. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM TO SCHEDULE THIS.I FEEL THIS IS ILLEGAL. I COMPLIED FULLY WITH THE RECALL BY THE DEADLINE. I HAVE RECEIVED NO INDEMNIFICATION IN ANY CAPACITY. 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA (AND A NUMBER OF TOYOTA MINI-VANS) ARE PLAGUED WITH A DEFECTIVE AND COSTLY REPAIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE REAR HATCHES ON A NUMBER OF TOYOTA VEHICLES. THE HANDLE THAT OPERATED THE HATCH IS VERY FRAGILE AND BREAKS FREQUENTLY. THIS PLASTIC HANDLE BREAKS ON A 1-2 YEAR BASIS AND THE REPAIR COST IS OVER 400 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE HANDLE. OPENING THE HATCH IS NOT POSSIBLE WHEN THIS BREAKAGE OCCURS AND ANYTHING THAT WAS PLACED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WILL BE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE. ALSO, WHEN THE HATCH IS CLOSED AND THE LATCH IS BROKEN, NONE OF THESE VEHICLES CAN GAIN ACCESS TO THEIR SPARE TIRE WHICH IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND IS REMOVED USING A TOOL THAT IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE WHEN THE HATCH IS OPEN. SO, WHEN THE HATCH BREAKS, YOU ARE STUCK ON THE ROAD IF YOU HAVE A FLAT. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. EVERY INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THEM REPLACED AT LEAST ONCE (AT A COST OF $175.00 PER HANDLE) AND I HAVE TO REPLACE ONE FOR A SECOND TIME. THE HANDLES ARE MADE OF PLASTIC THAT CRACKS EASILY AND EVENTUALLY BREAKS. ALL OF THE HANDLES WERE BROKEN DURING THE COURSE OF NORMAL USE. NO UNDUE OR EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS EXERTED WHEN THE HANDLES WERE BROKEN. WHEN THE HANDLES ARE BROKEN, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE UNLESS SOMEONE OPENS THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. IF MY FAMILY AND I WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE QUICKLY, THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT IN TIME. THIS IS NOT ONLY EXPENSIVE, FRUSTRATING AND INCONVENIENT, IT CAN LEAD TO A DEADLY SITUATION. AMAZING ISSUE IS THE BODY HAS NO RUST AT ALL! NONE, YET THE FRAME IS SWISS CHEESE. OUR WINTERS ARE HARSH, AND SO IS THE SALT OUR STATE DUMPS ON THE ROADS, HOWEVER, I JUST RETIRED MY 1990 TOYOTA P/U IN 2010 WITH 220,000 MILES DUE TO RUST (20 YEARS), AND WE TRADED OUR 1992 TOYOTA PRIVIA VAN IN 2009 WITH 225,000 MI. FOR A VEHICLE WITH DOUBLE THE FUEL ECONOMY....AGAIN NO RUST ISSUE IN 17 YEARS. IT IS QUITE CLEAR TOYOTA DID NOT TREAT THE METAL ON THE FRAME PROPERLY OR USED INFERIOR MATERIALS TO BEGIN WITH. THE TOYOTA TACOMA AND TUNDRA OF THE SAME YEAR BOTH HAD MASSIVE RUSTING FRAME ISSUES WHICH HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR REPAIRS, RECOATING, AND EVEN ENTIRE VEHICLES PURCHASED BACK BY TOYOTA. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED HER A CREDIT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT THE CONTACT DECLINED. WAS ADVISED TO CALL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER & OPEN A CASE NUMBER WITH THEM. WAS ADVISED SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE TUNDRA & TACOMA MODELS.
FRAME SHOWS SIGNS OF EXTREME RUST, ESPECIALLY AT ALL WELD POINTS. MANY INTEGRAL COMPONENTS OF THE FRAME HAVE MULTIPLE LAYERS OF RUST THROUGH. THE REAR AXLE TORSION BARS HAVE HEAVY RUST AND APPEAR TO SHOW DIMINISHED DIAMETER. THE REAR AXLE DRAIN BOLT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL FALL OFF IF AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO CHECK FLUID. TOOK 2003 SEQUOIA TO BAIERL DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 26, 2011 IN CRANBERRY, PA FOR 130,000 MILE CHECK UP. MECHANIC NOTICED "HOLE' IN FRAME BEHIND FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION WITH ANOTHER MECHANIC THERE ARE SEVERAL AREAS WHERE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH BEHIND FRONT WHEELS. TOYOTA SAYS THIS ISSUE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. UPON INVESTIGATION ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS, IT SEEMS THAT MODEL YEARS 2000-2003 TACOMA'S, TUNDRA'S AND SEQUOIA'S ALL HAVE THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE ON TACOMA'S AND TUNDRA'S, BUT NOT SEQUOIA'S FOR SOME REASON. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION NOW AND TOYOTA THEMSELVES HAVE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP WHERE IT COULD POSSIBLY BE REPAIRED, BUT NO GUARANTEES. MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS EXPERIENCING HEAVY FRAME RUST, TO THE POINT OF BEING A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE. I HAVE A 2003 SEQUOIA AND THE SAFETY CONCERN IS ON THE PLASTIC TRIM AROUND THE DOOR FRAMES ON THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE ROLLED TRIM IS COMING LOOSE AROUND ALL FOUR DOORS. 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED REAR HATCH HANDLE BREAKS OFF. CAN'T OPEN REAR LIFTGATE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM SINCE 1999 WITH TOYOTA. THERE ARE SEVERAL TOYOTA FORUMS WITH OVER 500 COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THE HANDLE PART IS INFERIOR IT IS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC. THE PART HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED SINCE 1999 AND IS STILL USED. MOST SEQUOIA OWNERS HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED MORE THAN ONE TIME. THE PROBLEM STARTS FROM WATER POOLING IN THE HATCH AREA UNDER THE LIFTGATE. AS A RESULT, THE LOCK /HATCH HANDLE AREA CORRODES/RUSTS PUTS TENSION ON THE HANDLE AND THEN EVENTUALLY BREAKS. THE PART FAILS WITHOUT WARNING EXCEPT THAT THE LATCH MAY BE HARD TO OPEN FOR QUITE AWHILE BEFORE COMPLETELY BREAKING. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE HAD THIS LATCH PROBLEM SINCE THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP . ASK ANYONE WHO OWNS A SEQUOIA, AND THE WILL HAVE OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE REPAIR COST IS APPROXIMATELY $500.00. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE REAR PROPERLY AND OR GET TO THE SPARE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE THE LIABILITY OF THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA'S INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES, 3 OF THEM, ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND WERE BROKEN AFTER A YEAR OF USAGE. WITH THE HOT WEATHER HERE IN FLORIDA, THESE DOOR HANDLES BECOMES WEAK, EASILY CRACKED AND THEN BROKEN. THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EMERGENCY ISSUE BECAUSE WE OPEN OUR DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. WITH THE HEAVY AND LARGE DOORS OF THESE SEQUOIAS, THE PLASTIC HANDLES ARE NOT HEAVY DUTY ENOUGH MATERIAL LIKE METAL TO WITHSTAND THE OPEN AND CLOSE OPERATION OF THESE HEAVY DOORS. THESE ARE DEFECTIVE OR BELOW QUALITY TO USE PLASTIC MATERIAL FOR THESE DOORS. PLEASE HELP IN CORRECTING THESE MANUFACTURER DEFECT. VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. CONSUMER DID CONTACT TOYOTA'S COMPLAINT LINE AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE COMPANY. *AK
