TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRACTION AND VSC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLIDE AS IF THE BRAKES HAD BEEN APPLIED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,631.

WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AND AROUND A CURVE AT ABOUT 25MPH, MY 2002 SEQUOIA BEGAN BEEPING, MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD LITTLE TO NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM LASTED A FEW SECONDS. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WITH WIDE STREETS LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. CONSIDERING THAT I WAS ON A CURVE AND IT WAS RAINING, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A ONE TIME ISSUE WITH TRACTION CONTROL. I DROVE THE TRUCK FOR A FEW DAYS WITH NO ISSUES. YESTERDAY, MY WIFE WAS ROUNDING A CURVE AT ABOUT 50MPH ON A HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON DRY PAVEMENT AND THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING. SHE NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER. SINCE THEN, THE TRUCK WILL INTERMITTENTLY BEEP AND GRIND FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE THE VSC OFF LIGHT COMES ON. AS LONG AS THE LIGHT IS ON, INDICATING THE VSC IS DISENGAGED, THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE WHEN ROUNDING A CURVE AND BRAKING, BUT THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, DURING BOTH BRAKING AND ACCELERATING, AND WHILE ON FLAT GROUND OR A HILL. THE PROBLEM ONLY LASTS A FEW SECONDS, BUT YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DURING THAT TIME. THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE, DECELERATE, BRAKE, OR PULL ON ITS OWN. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING CONTROL AND WRECKING, POTENTIALLY CAUSING INJURY TO MY WIFE AND KIDS OR ANOTHER DRIVER. UPON RESEARCHING, I FOUND RECALL NUMBER 10V176000, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA09006. THIS RECALL WAS FOR 2003 SEQUOIAS WITH A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) SYSTEM. WHY WAS THE 2002 MODEL NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE IT SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE? *TR

2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A SAFETY CONCERN INVOLVING THE VSC/TRAC SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VSC/TRAC DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSTABLE. THE CONSUMER STATED A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE 2003 MODEL AND THE 2002 MODEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AS WELL.

SAME PROBLEM LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, TRACTION CONTROL, VSC, BRAKE LIGHT,AND ABS LIGHT ON. DEALERSHIP SAYS NO RECALL BUT THEY RECALLED ALL 2003 MODELS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. ABS COMPUTER MODULE. PART# 89541-0C050. VEHICLE LIGHTS ARE OFF WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED, AFTER 2-3 MILES ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON THEN THE CAR IS HARD TO HANDLE DUE TO TRACTION CONTROL MAKING THE CAR UNSTABABLE. ALSO WITH ABS LIGHT ON, BRAKING IS VERY BAD. CONSTANT FIGHT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT DURING BRAKING. *TT

HE STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS QUICKLY AS HE THOUGHT WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. HE WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WERE THERE ANY RELATED RECALLS. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS NORMAL. DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER OR ECU - 650.00 AND THE YAW RATE SENSOR 401.00. HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. TOYOTA SEQUOIA 2002 SR5(21,000MLS) WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO THE HIGHWAY FROM A ROLLING POSITION THE VEHICLE DEVELOPS A BUCKING AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE TRACKING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE WHEELS SEEM TO BE BINDING YOU ARE NOW CREATING A SAFETY ISSUE, YOU ARE NOW ON THE HIGHWAY EVERYONE IS BRAKING TRYING TO AVOID CRASHING INTO YOU, AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT STOPS AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENED, BUT THE TRACKING LIGHT STAYS ON. TO GET IT OFF YOU HAVE TO STOP SWITCH OFF THE VEHICLE THEN START AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS NEVER WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING OVER 30 MLS PER HR. 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. CONSUMER STATES FAILED VEHICLE SKID CONTROL AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE 2003 MODEL MANUFACTURED BETWEEN APRIL 1, 2002 THROUGH APRIL 17, 2003. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY 2002 AND IT ALSO HAS THE SAME PART NUMBER AS THE 2003 MODEL. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD START TO MOVE, THEN IT WOULD SUDDENLY STOP ACCELERATING WHICH LEFT HIM IN TRAFFIC AT 10-15 MPH, THEN A SERIES OF LOUD NOISES EMITTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE AGAIN. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WOULD HAPPEN EVERY TIME HE CAME TO A STOP AND SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, THE VSC AND ABS LIGHTS ON THE DASH INDICATED THE SYSTEMS WERE OFF. IN TURN, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST HAVE TRADITIONAL BRAKES WITHOUT THE SAFETY OF THE ABS AND VSC. WHICH WAS VERY EVIDENT DURING A RAINY DAY WHILE BRAKING, BECAUSE THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK WENT INTO A SKID SIDE WAYS. *JB
