Your Prius stalls or hesitates for 5-6 seconds when you press the gas pedal after coming to a stop, especially in hot weather. The car eventually moves forward, but the problem happens again later. It occurs unpredictably with no warning lights on your dashboard, and mechanics have had trouble finding the cause.

When you try to fill your gas tank, gasoline sprays back out at you instead of flowing into the tank, soaking your clothes and spilling onto the car and ground. Your mechanic found that the fuel filler neck vent valve (the part that lets air out when you fill up) was stuck, causing the backup. This valve needs to be replaced, which typically costs several hundred dollars.

Your Prius overflowed fuel immediately when filling the tank, spraying gasoline on the car, ground, tires, and your feet without warning. A technician found that the air vent that allows air to escape during fueling had failed, causing fuel to back up out of the filler neck. The repair required replacing this vent component, which cost $337 in parts and labor.

THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN ACCELERATING TO PROCEED FROM THE STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE WOULD BARELY ACCELERATE NO MATTER HOW FAR WE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS NOT REVVING FASTER IT JUST APPEARED TO STAY IN EV MODE WITH VERY LITTLE ACCELERATION. FINALLY AFTER ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS THE CAR STARTS ACCELERATING. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT IF THIS OCCURS AT A TURN ONTO A BUSY ROAD WE COULD BE IN A POSITION WHERE WE ARE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING CROSS TRAFFIC. THIS IS VERY INTERMITTENT, MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE PER SUMMER (USUALLY IN THE HOTTER TIMES OF THE YEAR). WE'VE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP AND BOTH TIMES THEY HAVE SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THIS SOUNDS LIKE TSB-0241-17, WHICH I HAVE SHARED WITH THE DEALER BUT BOTH TIMES THEY HAVE INDICATED THEY SEE NO SIGN OFF A PROBLEM.
UNABLE TO FILL GAS TANK. VAPOR-CONTAINMENT VALVE ENGAGES DURING REFUELLING, CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL TO GROUND AND UNABLE TO FILL MORE THAT ONE-HALF GALLON OF FUEL.
