Your blind spot detection system is incorrectly alerting you to vehicles that are two lanes away from you, rather than just one lane over. This false alert has nearly caused a crash because you might hesitate to change lanes when the warning activates for vehicles that aren't actually in your blind spot. The warning light on your driver's mirror flashes even when the detected vehicle is far enough away that it shouldn't trigger an alert. This will likely require recalibration or replacement of the blind spot detection sensor or camera.
