Your dashboard has become cracked, sticky, and melted, which you discovered in March 2020. This condition can potentially cause visibility problems from glare and may affect the dashboard airbag system. Toyota's warranty for this issue expired in May 2017, and the dealership quoted approximately $2,200 to replace the dashboard at your expense. Fixing this issue will require removing and replacing the entire dashboard assembly.

DASHBOARD HAS BECOME STICKY AND SHINY. THIS HAS PRODUCED A GLARE MAKING VISIBILITY AN ISSUE. CLEANING DOESN'T HELP.
THE DASHBOARD HAS BECOME GUMMY AND CRACKING CAUSING A BRIGHT GLARE THAT MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE ON BRIGHT SUNNY DAYS. LAST WEEK I WAS CROSSING OVER A BRIDGE AND ALMOST WENT OVER THE SIDE. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2006 SOLARA IS MELTING AND SETS OFF A HIGH REFLECTIVE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DANGEROUS AND DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DASH IS STICKY TO TOUCH - CAN NOT BE WIPED CLEAN. THE DASH PANEL ABOVE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT IS CRACKING WHICH MAY EFFECT AIR BAG. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA - CASE # WITHHOLDING IN 2013 BUT THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA SENT ME TO LOCAL DEALER. DEALER GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER EVEN AFTER I HAD SEEN THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET. NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WANTED $2200 TO REPLACE IT. *TR

NOTICED HAIRLINE CRACKS IN DASH PAD AND RELATED TRIM AND THE DASH PAD SURFACE WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY STICKY TO THE TOUCH. THE GLARE OF THE STICKY DASH PAD AND THE ODOR IT EMITS...LEAVING A RESIDUE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOWS. WE HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA WHICH HAS A CRACKED DASH BOARD WITH A STICKY SUBSTANCE OOZING OUT. THE CAR IS GARAGED AND IN GREAT CONDITION OTHERWISE. THE DASH PAD SURFACE STARTED TO BECOME DARK IN COLOR AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH IN THE SUNSHINE. THE DASH PAD MATERIAL WAS VERY SHINY AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH, ALMOST LIKE A LIQUID. THE GLARE FROM THE SHINY, STICKY SURFACE CAUSES A GLARE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES THE CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE...AND A GREATER CONCERN ARE THE AIRBAGS IN THE DASH AFFECTED BY THIS SURFACE DETERIORATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS SEEKING RESOLUTION AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE SEEM NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THIS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SHORT OF MY PAYING APPROX. $1,500 TO REPLACE THE PART. CONTACT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE HAD THEM TELLING ME I HAD DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE SITUATION. TO-DATE THE CAR (MY WIFE'S VEHICLE) SITS INSIDE, UNDER A CUSTOM CAR COVER AND HAS LESS THAN 11,000 MILES...WE CONSIDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2010, IT HAD SOME CRACKS ABOVE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT ON THE DASHBOARD, WHICH I TOOK TO HAVE REPAIRED AT A COST OF ABOUT $300. SINCE THEN, THE CRACKS KEEP OPENING, TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WILL HAVE A SERIOUS IMPACT ON THE RESALE OF THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND HAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $2200 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND GOT AN ESTIMATE OF $2400!! TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DASH. NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY LEXUS AUTOMOBILES HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND NOW LEARN THAT THERE ARE 73 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SOLARA. IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM AND PERHAPS THAT TOYOTA WILL BE FORCED TO MAKE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS. *TR

THE SURFACE OF THE DASHBOARD BECAME SHINY AND STICKY. THE SHININESS CAUSES REFLECTIONS ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHICH MAKES VISIBILITY DIFFICULT AT TIMES. OVER TIME THE CRACKS HAVE BECOME BIGGER AND MORE NUMEROUS AND THE DASHBOARD HAS BECOME MORE SHINY AND STICKY. PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD ARE FALLING OFF EXPOSING SOME KIND OF FOAM PADDING UNDERNEATH. *JS

TRAVELING EAST ON INTERSTATE 10 WEST OF TONOPAH, AZ , FELT VIBRATION AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SUFFERED A PARTIAL TREAD SEPARATION. TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH SPARE AND TRIP CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 30 MILES WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SUFFERED A COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION CAUSING NEARLY $1600 DOLLARS DAMAGE IN AND AROUND THE WHEEL WELL. TIRES WERE FIRESTONE FR380 P215/60R16 WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES. SUBSEQUENT CHECK OF TIRES INDICATED THAT THE TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED. TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED AND CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH OIL CHANGES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WILL DECELERATE WHILE DRIVING AND VIBRATE WHEN FIRST TURNED ON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DASH AFTER KEEPING THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT SEE ANY WORK WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE STILL OCCURRED . THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE 4 - 5 TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO RESOLUTION SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JUNE 23 2006. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY GIVING 23 MILES PER GALLON, NO WAY NEAR THE 40 MILES PER GALLON ADVERTISED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30 MILES , AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,200 MILES.*AK
NEW TOYOTA SOLARA. VEHICLE PURCHASED MAY 30 2006. FRONT BUMPER FELL OFF THE CAR ON JULY 7, 2006. DEALER NOTICED A VERY SMALL DEPRESSION NEAR WHEEL WELL, AND SAYS THAT SOMEONE MAY HAVE BUMPED THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT. REFERRED ME TO PRIVATE BODY SHOP WHERE I WAS CHARGED $586.00. DIRECTOR OF LOCAL AAA INSPECTED CAR. THEY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE BUMPER SHOULD HAVE DETACHED. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT FELL OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE FWY. AAA REQUESTED THAT I FILE NTSB REPORT, AND INSURANCE ADJUSTER IS EXAMINING THE CAR AND PHOTOGRAPHING THE BUMPER, WHICH WAS HELD TOGETHER BY TWO LITTLE PLASTIC BRACKETS. BODY SHOP SAYS THAT SOME OF THE NEW TOYOTAS HAVE BODY DEFECTS - THINGS THAT COME LOOSE. HE IS WONDERING IF THERE IS A PACKAGING AND SHIPPING PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THE BUMPERS TO GET LOOSE. HE ADDED 6 CLIPS AND BRACKETS TO THE BUMPER. THE NEW FRONT BUMPER IS NOW MUCH MORE STABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL BACK BUMPER. *JB
