TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00E010000 (INTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,600.
EVERY TIME THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT IS MOVED FORWARD TO ALLOW PASSENGERS IN OR OUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE VEHICLE STARTS BLINKING. THE LIGHT WILL BLINK FOR AROUND 15 DAYS BEFORE IT SHUTS OFF IF THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT MOVED FORWARD FOR PASSENGERS DURING THAT TIME. THE NEXT TIME THE PASSENGER SEAT IS MOVED FORWARD FOR PASSENGERS, THE CYCLE STARTS OVER AGAIN.
I WAS AT A STANDSTILL AND REARENDED BY ANOTHER DRIVER GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND HE DID NOT BRAKE. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT ENGAGE NOR DID THE AIRBAGS. BOTH CARS TOTALED. TRUNK HOOD POPPED, ALSO REAR PANELS BENT. I SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY EITHER ON WINDSHIELD OR STEERING WHEEL . MY FIRM BELIEF IS THE SEATBELT SHOULD HAVE ENGAGED AND AVOIDED THE HEAD INJURY. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING INTO STARVED ROCK NATIONAL PARK IN ILLINOIS AROUND 4 P.M. ON AUGUST 20TH, 2014. SHE DRIVING ON THE ENTRANCE DRIVE AT THE SPEED OF 10 MPH. THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED RAMPING UP IN SPEED CAUSING THE MY DAUGHTER TO START BRAKING. THE CAR CONTINUED GAINING SPEED AND THE BRAKES WERE UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS THE CAR WAS GOING FASTER, MY DAUGHTER ENTERED THE PARKS VISITOR CENTER PARKING LOT. WHILE STILL TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, MY DAUGHTER HIT A PARKED CAR TO THE RIGHT, JUST CLIPPING IT CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE HIT CAR'S TAILLIGHT. HER CAR HIT A CAR TO THE LEFT THEN HIT A PARKED TAHOE WHICH STOPPED MY DAUGHTERS CAR AFTER BEING PUSHED 4 PARKING SPACES. WE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA CORP. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND. THEY ADMITTED AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS FROZEN. THEY SAID THIS HAPPENED FROM AN IMPACT BEHIND THE BATTERY, PROBLEM IS THAT THERE WAS NO IMPACT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS UNTIL THE IMPACT OF HITTING THE TAHOE. MY DAUGHTER WAS FIGHTING TO STOP FROM THE ENTRANCE DRIVE. THE TOYOTA REP. ALSO STATED THAT THEIR INSPECTION TEAM RELEASED THE CABLE AND SAID IT WORKED FINE. THE REP. COULD NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION REGARDING THE TIMING OF THE CABLE BEING FROZEN. THEY ARE ACCUSING MY DAUGHTER OF ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE DUE TO FACT THAT IT IS A MECHANICAL ACCELERATOR, IT WAS THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. TOYOTA CLAIMS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE IMPACT WAS SLIGHTLY OFF CENTER OF THE FRONT THAT THEY DID NOT DEPLOY. LOOKING AT THE DAMAGE INCLUDING THE RADIATOR BEING PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. TOYOTA FEELS THAT OUR CAR IS FINE AND THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE MANUFACTURING OR THE DESIGN. PLEASE HELP. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE FRONT END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. HE SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES TO HIS NECK AND SHOULDERS FROM THE CRASH. THE CONTACT HAS A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN SEPTEMBER 1998. ON DECEMBER 13, 1999 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THAT MORNING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE, I-285 EAST, IT WAS AROUND 7:30 AM AND TRAFFIC WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER. TRAFFIC BEGAN MOVING AND I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES AND I HIT HIM. THE NOSE OF MY CARE WAS SMASHED SO HARD THAT THE HOOD CRUMPLED INTO A TEPEE AND WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE GLASS TO CRACK. I COULDN'T OPEN MY DOORS BECAUSE THE IMPACT HAD PUSHED THE DOORS BACK SO THEY OVERLAPPED THE BACK QUARTER PANELS AND WERE JAMMED. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS WAS A DEAD ON FRONT IMPACT ACCIDENT IN A PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW CAR AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE INCH OF THE FRONT END THAT DIDN'T TAKE THE IMPACT SO THERE IS NO WAY IT "MISSED THE SENSORS". THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR ENDED UP BEING OVER $10,000.00. THE AIRBAGS SERIOUSLY MALFUNCTIONED AND I WAS LUCKY THAT I WASN'T INJURED.*JB

POLICE WAS CALLED BUT BECAUSE IT WAS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO TAKE A REPORT. PASSENGER HAD TO GO TO HOSPITAL AFTER SEAT BELT LOCKED SO TIGHT THAT THEY CHECKED HER FOR INTERNAL INJURIES. BODY WAS BRUISED BADLY. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NO FIRE REPORTED. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE OFFICER ON THE SCENE AS WELL AS FIREMEN, WERE SURPRISED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THEY TOLD CONSUMER THAT HE SHOULD NOTIFY SOMEONE. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. CONSUMER SAID THAT NOTHING INDICATED THAT AIRBAGS OR ANYTHING ELSE SHOULD NOT BE WORKING CORRECTLY. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. CONSUMER HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE.*AK
COMPLAINT VIA E-MAIL. HAD LEARNED THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATED SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN THE 2002 AND 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. I EXPERIENCED THIS EFFECT RECENTLY WITH MY 1999 CAMRY. THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE INSIDE THE GARAGE OF MY APARTMENT BUILDING. ALTHOUGH NO INJURIES OCCURRED, MY CAR AND ANOTHER CAR SUFFERED SOME BODY DAMAGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER , BUT THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS BACKING INTO HIS PARKING SPACE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD. THE BRAKES DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HIT A POST, BOUNCED OF IT AND HIT A PARKED VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *SC
VEHICLE STRUCK DEAR AT 65 MPH. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY (CRASH DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR). NO INJURIES REPORTED. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THAT TIME. *JB

HORN NOT WOKING, NEED TO REPLACE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY AND ORDER LEFT AIR BAG MODULE. THEY STATED DUE TO HORN, AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG/HORN. *AK
AFTER BEING STRUCK ON THE SIDE BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CAME OUT TO THE SIZE OF A SMALL BALLOON, IT DID NOT DEPLOY TO FULL SIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *JB.
AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHED ON/OFF BACK IN AUG. 2003. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED AND THOUGHT THAT WAS THE END OF THE PROBLEM. ALMOST A YEAR LATER IN JULY 2004 MY AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ON/OFF AGAIN, I THEN RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE ONCE AGAIN IT WAS "FIXED OR REPAIRED" NOW, TWO MONTHS LATER I'M HAVING AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK TOYOTA KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND IT'S A REAL CONCERN TO THINK THAT IF THERE'S A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT OR INNCODENT THE AIR BAG(S ) MAY NOT DEPLOY. I'M FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PROBLEM AND AM FILING A COMPLAINT IN HOPES THAT MAYBE SOMEONE WILL LISTEN OR PAY ATTENTION. THIS COULD GET TO BE A COSTLY ISSUE THAT NEVER GETS RESOLVED. (1) THE VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING IN WAS PROCEEDING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ON A GREEN TRAFFIC SIGNAL WHEN OTHER VEHICLE FAILED TO OBEY RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL THUS STRIKING MY VEHICLE BETWEEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AND DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOORS ("B" PILLAR). *AK (2) SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE CONTRIBUTING TO MORE SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED. (3) VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. COULD NOT FIND CONTACT INFORMATION ON MANUFACTURER TO MAKE NOTIFCATION OF DEFECT.
PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON FREQUENTLY. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT AND ASSEMBLY. SINCE THEN, THE LIGHT JUST COMES ON RANDOMLY AND STAYS ON UNTIL I TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. EACH TIME, THEY FIX "SOMETHING". SEVERAL OF THE TIMES, THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE WIRES UNDERNEATH THE SEAT COME DISCONNECTED OVER TIME. THEY THEN PROCEED TO "FIX" IT. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN SEVERAL MONTHS. ONE TIME, THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTOR FROM THE STEERING. ALL TIMES, THE DEALERSHIP HAS FIXED THIS WITHOUT CHARGING ME. THIS LAST TIME, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE LOOSE CABLE UNDER THE SEAT AGAIN, BUT BECAUSE THE PRIOR PROBLEM WAS NOT THIS SAME THING (E.G. THE STEERING CONNECTION), IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTLY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $200 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED. THIS IS OBVIOULSY A RECURRING ISSUE. AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THESE KINGS OF PROBLEMS. WHEN WILL THEIR BE A RECALL OF THIS? IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER IS OBVIOUSLY NOT ABLE TO PERMANENTLY FIX THIS PROBLEM (AFTER 6 TRYS, YOU'D THINK THEY WOULD FIGURE IT OUT). I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY EVERY TIME I NEED IT FIXED.
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONSUMER FELL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE, THEN COLLIDED WITH A STREET LIGHT POLE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER BROKE HER STERNUM AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR A WEEK. THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD A GRANDSON IN THE VEHICLE THAT BROKE TWO FINGERS IN THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE DID ARRIVE, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS NOT CITED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
ON GOING PROBLEM WITH AIRBAGS AND IT'S SENSORS COMING ON. WAS IN THE DEALERS ON TWO OCCASIONS. A WARNING ON BILL THAT A POSSIBLE RE CHECK WILL OCCUR. *CB

I WAS DRIVING SOUNTBOUND WITH 2 OTHER PASSENGERS, WE WERE ALL BELTED IN. A CAR IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC INTO OUR SOUTHBOUND LANE AT THAT TIME I HAD NO WHERE TO MOVE SO I APPLIED MY BRAKES HER CAR PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE TO APPRX 40-45 MPH AND HIT US HEAD ON. WE HAD INJURIES BRUISES, NECK INJURIES AND THE WORST A BROKEN STERNUM. AT KNOW TIME DID OUR AIRBAGS DEPLOY DURING THIS ACCIDENT. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATION AND THEY SAID WE WERE NOT HIT HARD ENOUGH FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY END OF DICUSSION. TOYOTA HAS GIVEN US THE COLD SHOULDER AND MORE OR LESS NOT TO BOTHER THEM ABOUT THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW COME IF WE WERE HIT SO HARD THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH WITHOUT ANY REASON. DRIVER WAS KNOCKED OUT, AND THE VEHICLE WENT OVER THE DIVIDER AND WAS HIT BY 2 OTHER CARS. DEALER HAS VEHICLE. *AK
I WAS STOPPED WAITING FOR A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. I WAS HIT IN THE REAR BY A 1996 NISSAN MAXIMA TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 40 MPH. THE IMPACT PUSHED MY CAMRY INTO THE REAR OF A 1989 FORD IN FRONT OF ME. MY CAMRY MADE CONTACT WITH THE FORD ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DIRECTLY NEAR THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN MY FRONT LEFT BUMPER AREA. UPON IMPACT BY THE NISSAN IN MY REAR, MY DRIVER'S SEAT COLLAPSED BACKWARD, CAUSING ME TO SLIDE FORWARD UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD AND STEERING WHEEL. THE SEATBELT FAILED TO PROPERLY TENSE UP, CAUSING ME TO INJURE MY RIGHT KNEE AND MY ABDOMEN. I WAS THE ONLY DRIVER INJURED IN THIS 3-CAR ACCIDENT, BUT THE EXTENT OF MY INJURIES HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. BOTH THE AIRBAGS IN THE 1996 NISSAN DEPLOYED PROPERLY, AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG IN THE 1989 FORD, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY HIT FROM THE REAR BY MY CAMRY. TOYOTA USA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT, AND HAS ASSURED ME THEY WILL INSPECT MY VEHICLE THIS WEEK. OBVIOUSLY, I BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, AND THE SEAT SHOULD NOT HAVE COLLAPSED BACKWARD.
