TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 35 TO 40 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO DEPRESS FULLY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CRASH CAUSED NO INJURIES. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 230,000.

WENT OVER CURB DOWN HILL INTO CREEK. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN FRONT OF CAR HIT BANK OF CREEK. SAW PUFF OF SMOKE AFTER HITTING BANK COME FROM UNDER CAR. TURNED CAR OFF IMMEDIATELY. *NM

THEN, AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES ON AUGUST 23, 2001 FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP DUE TO A RUBBING NOISE DURING BRAKE APPLICATION. I LIFTED MY RIGHT FOOT AND PROCEEDED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE. I TWO-FOOTED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD SOMETHING CRACK AFTERWHICH THE PEDAL STARTED TO MOVE AND I RGAINED THE USE OF MY BRAKES. AN EXAMINATION REVEALED A PLASTIC DUCT WEDGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE FLOOR BOARD. THE DUCT WAS PART OF THE VENTILATION SYSTEM WHICH HAD FALLEN OFF AND WEDGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE FLOOR BOARD.*AK

THE BRAKES ARE MAKING GRINDING NOISE. THEY HAVE BEEN CHANGED ONCE BY THE DEALERSHIP AT 13000 MILES, AND THEN AT 27000 MILES THEY WERE AGAIN CHANGED BY SEARS. BUT THE BRAKES ARE GETTING WORN OUT EASILY AND THE GRINDING SOUND WILL NOT STOP. THE LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT BELTS HAVE BOTH FAILED AT 20000 AND 27000. THEY GET STUCK AND WONT COME IN OR OUT. THEY HAVE BEEN CHANGED BY THE DEALER *AK

WHILE DRIVING HEARD THUMPING NOISES AND SMOKE FROM FRONT LEFT TIRE. TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. DEALER'S CONCLUSION OF BRAKE FLUID CONTAMINATION AND REPAIRS TO THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM COSTING APPROX. $3,200. CONTACTED INSURANCE COMPANY, WHO SUPPOSEDLY ANALYZED THE BRAKE FLUID FOR CONTAMINATION, BUT DIDN'T FIND ANY. INSURANCE COMPANY BLAMES THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE ON MANUFACTURING DEFECT. HELP!!!

AFTER THAT IT IS EXTREMELY ROUGH RIDE WITH VIBRATIONS. SOUNDS LIKE A PEACE OF CRAP. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5000 MILES NEW AND ALSO AFTER OIL CHANGE IT HAS NEVER RUN THE SAME. CANNOT ACCELERATE VERY GOOD. VERY VERY ROUGH DRIVE. *AK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FEELS VERY SOFT AND GOES TO THE FLOOR AS IF IT IS NOT GOING TO STOP, AND THEN IT SUDDENLY GOES INTO ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODE. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
I BEGAN COMPLAINING ABOUT BRAKE PROBLEMS WITHIN DAYS OF LEASING THE CAR. I KEPT BEING TOLD THAT THE GRINDING NOISES WERE NORMAL FOR TOYOTA. FINALLY AT 11,000 MILES THEY EXAMINED THE BRAKES AND DISCOVERED THEY HAD GROUND DOWN INTO THE ROTORS. THEY SAID THAT THE BRAKES WERE MY RESPONSIBILITY AND I MUST PAY. I PROTESTED, WITH NO SUCCESS. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDANT AND HAD IT REPAIRED FOR HALF THE MONEY TOYOTA WANTED. BETWEEN THEN AND NOW I HAVE HAD MY BRAKES FAIL 4 MORE TIMES. TWICE THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE REAR DRUMS ONCE, ALL THROUGH TOYOTA. THE LAST TIME, AFTER BEING TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, I PERSISTED AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE PUSH ROD IN THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY. THE SYSTEM WAS REPAIRED AND JUST 6,000 MILES LATER THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS FAILING AGAIN. THE FACTORY REP. SHOWED MY FATHER THAT THE SYSTEM HAS OVERHEATED AND SCORED THE ROTORS AND DRUMS. THE PADS HAD LITTLE LEFT ON THEM. TOYOTA SAID THE SYSTEM CHECKS OUT FINE AND IT'S MY PROBLEM. 5 BRAKE JOBS IN 30,000 MILES, SOMETHING IS WRONG. PLEASE HELP!

CAR COULD NOT START UNTIL AFTER A COMPUTER CHIP WAS REPLACED. BUT WHEN CAR WAS RUNNING AND WE PULLED THE CHIP THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN. NO ONE KNOWS WHY CAR STALLED. THE CONVERTABLE TOP LEAKED WATER, BROUGHT TO DEALER BACK THREE TIMES. BUT NOW THE CONVERTIBLE TOP DOES NOT COME UP ON WINDSHIELD FLUSH-BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER FIVE TIMES STILL WORKING ON IT. THE FRONT BRAKES BEGAN SQUEAKING AND PULLING AT 5000 MILES. THIS IS MY 4TH NEW CAR NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.

SINCE PURCHASING MY 98 TOYOTA CAMRY 10/3/97, I HAVE TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS WHEREAS MY BRAKES DID SQUEAK & SQUEAL WHEN STOPPING. BROUGHT MY CAR INTO TOYOTA ON TWO SEPARATE OCCIAISIONS AND WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF A BRAKE PROBLEM, AND WOULD PROVIDE A TEMPORARY QUICK FIX UNTIL THE MFGR RECALLED THE CAMRY'S. I'VE HAD FT PADS & MACHINE ROTORS & REAR BRAKES ADJUSTED 2-3 TIMES IN 98. I'VE PAID $300+ TOWARDS THIS SERVICE TO MY NEW CAR AND THERE IS STILL NO RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. DID ADVISE DEALERSHIP THAT I WILL BY ANOTHER CAR, BUT IT WILL NOT BE A TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD MAKE UNNECESSARY NOISE WHENEVER CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES ON SHORT DISTANCE, A LOUD GRINDING SOUND. VEHICLE BEEN IN/OUT DEALER SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS AND PROBLEM CANNOT BE RESOLVED. *AK
WHEN BRAKING AND COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKES GRIND/SQUEAK, METAL ON METAL. DEALER CONTACTED MULTIPLE TIMES, TOYOTA CONTACTED AND NO RESPONSE. LOCATED A TSB, REPAIRS BEING MADE PER #BR002-98. *AK *ML
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE BRAKES MAKES A LOUD NOISE, AND AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPS TO THE FLOOR. DEALER HAS NOT SEEN. *AK
LEFT REAR ABS BRAKES FAILED.
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND STOPPING TO TURN A CORNER THERE IS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. THE PEDAL IS SOFT, AND IF THE BRAKES DON'T STOP THE VEHICLE DRIVER HAS TO PRESS THE BRAKES AGAIN UNTIL CAN GET THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. *AK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL IS SOFT. THE BRAKES MAKE A LOT OF NOISE, AND TAKE TOO LONG TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD SURFACE DURING NORMAL BRAKING. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. A BRAKE KIT HAS BEEN ORDERED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
ON WET ROADS, THE FRONT BRAKES LOCK (IN NON-EMERGENCY CONDITIONS). THE VEHICLE DOES NOT TRACK PROPERLY AND BEGINS TO SLIDE AT AN ANGLE.
WHEN PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL BRAKES MAKE A LOUD NOISE, THERE IS ALSO EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. TWO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE, DEALER STATES THEY WILL NOT REPAIR AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS THE DESIGN OF THE MODEL. *AK

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED BY THE AUTOBODY SHOP WHICH REPAIRED THE ACCIDENT DAMAGE.
ABS BRAKES FAILED.
