Your exhaust pipe rusted and separated from the muffler, causing hot exhaust gases to shoot upward into the cargo area. The extreme heat melted a rubber grommet on the floor, the carpet backing, and foam insulation underneath. This poses potential fire and carbon monoxide safety risks, especially during long drives. The fix will likely require replacing the rusted exhaust components and inspecting the cargo area for damage.
