Your 4Runner's frame has rusted so severely that pieces are breaking off by hand, and a technician discovered it won't pass vehicle inspection in its current state. The frame deterioration is so advanced that welding was needed as an immediate safety repair, though this is only a temporary fix—the overall structural condition remains heavily compromised. The repair involved grinding out the rusted sections and welding in new steel to restore structural integrity.

Your 4Runner failed its safety inspection because the frame has significant rust and rot, making it unsafe to drive. Toyota declined to help with repairs, and the previous owner won't assist either. You may need professional frame inspection and rust repair to make the vehicle roadworthy again.

Your vehicle's frame is severely rusted, and the dealer found that the trailing arm mount (where the suspension connects to the frame) is almost completely corroded away. The dealer won't perform the transfer case repair because they believe the frame is unsafe and at risk of breaking through. You may need to replace your vehicle, as the frame damage is structural and severe.

Your vehicle's frame has severe rust damage in multiple locations, which has weakened the structural integrity. The suspension components have actually broken through the rotted frame, creating an unsafe driving condition. This rust-related structural failure poses a serious safety risk and the vehicle should not be driven until repairs are made. Fixing this will likely require frame repair or replacement, along with inspection and repair of the suspension components.

Your 4Runner's frame has severe rust with holes that have eaten completely through the metal, even though the body exterior looks fine. Your husband is concerned the vehicle is unsafe to drive because in a collision, the weakened frame could crumple easily rather than protect you. Fixing this would likely involve professional frame inspection, rust treatment, and possibly frame reinforcement or replacement of corroded sections.

You noticed your 4Runner swaying while driving. A mechanic discovered severe rust on the sub frame between the sway bar and differential, which affects the vehicle's structural integrity and handling. The dealer determined the sub frame needs to be replaced but declined to perform the work due to its complexity. Fixing this will require replacing the sub frame assembly, a major structural repair.

You've noticed a distinct wobble while driving your 4Runner on the highway. A mechanic found a 1-inch-wide, 18-inch-long hole in the frame caused by rust, which they describe as a serious structural concern that welding might temporarily address. There may be additional hidden rust behind the gas tank that isn't visible. Fixing this will likely require professional frame welding or replacement of the affected frame section.

You purchased your 4Runner in 2021 believing it had 160,000 miles, but a Carfax report later revealed the odometer may have been rolled back by the previous owner in 2020—the actual mileage was 236,900 miles. Because you unknowingly bought a vehicle with significantly higher mileage than displayed, you've had to pay for numerous repairs you wouldn't have anticipated. This is a case of odometer fraud that you're reporting to NHTSA.

Your truck's frame has severe rust issues that keep recurring. Even after a weld shop patched rusted areas with new steel, rust has formed again around the patches, making it difficult for mechanics to properly inspect the frame. You may have trouble passing inspections or selling the vehicle due to the structural damage. Addressing frame rust typically requires professional welding or frame replacement to stop the corrosion cycle.

Suspension →2 issues
While driving on the highway at 65 mph, your 4Runner suddenly shook and swayed violently, making it very difficult to control. A Toyota dealer found that the frame was corroded completely through, and the rear trailing arm had separated from the frame—making the vehicle unsafe to drive and unrepairable due to the extent of the rust damage. Addressing this issue would require frame replacement or structural welding, which may not be feasible given the severity of the corrosion.

While driving at 15 mph, you heard thumping and clicking sounds from the front of your vehicle, and the front passenger side suddenly dropped. A mechanic found that the lower ball joint had failed completely and was touching the ground, requiring replacement. This happened at around 275,000 miles. The repair involves replacing the worn lower ball joint.

While accelerating on a highway entrance ramp, your steering wheel began shaking violently and you lost control of the SUV. A mechanic found excessive rust on the rear frame and shock absorber, which caused the wheel to become essentially detached and free-floating. The vehicle remained in the shop for repairs to address the rusted suspension components and reattach the wheel properly.
