the Infotainment system is malfunctioning. the screen is delaminating and pressing ghost buttons, flickering between screens or not functioning at all and I am unable to press any buttons on the screen. safety: when making calls hands free with the system, it will mute calls, end calls, or switch calls between the car speaker and the phone speaker.

Summary of Problem: The infotainment screen on my 2018 Subaru Outback has delaminated and is malfunctioning, causing multiple safety issues. This is a known manufacturer defect previously addressed in a class-action lawsuit (Starlink Infotainment System Litigation, settled 2021). However, my vehicle’s screen failed shortly after the extended warranty expired.

I have recently experienced an issue touchscreen delamination, which I understand has affected other Subaru owners as well. While my vehicle is no longer under the standard warranty, I believe this issue stems from a known defect and not normal wear and tear. More importantly, it has created a significant safety concern.

My sunroof on my subaru outback 2018 exploded while going north on the 5 from sea world drive to balboa exit. thankfully my cover was on and debris didnt fall on my while driving. Saw online many subaru outback owners have had similar issues.

The Head Unit, which is the center built-in touchscreen of the 2018 Subaru Outback, began glitching after 5 to 6 years after this vehicle was purchased.

The car's display panel which I use to carplay to navigate google map randomly calling people on my contact list and randomly make commends such as play media or search maps as if I touched the panel screen to commend. The incidents happened while I was driving which caused me lost google map and almost lost control of the car since I tried to cancel the phone calls I didn't make.

I was backing out of my driveway very slowly as usual. I checked the road both ways several times. A US mail truck evidently traveling at a high rate of speed came up behind me while I was looking in the opposite direction.

Went into my office yesterday morning and came out on my break to a cracked windshield. It was a perfect crack that seems to have started right at the edge of the glass extending to the middle of the windshield with no point of impact noted. As per Subaru it’s not covered under our Gold Warranty Plan even when we explained the glass seems to have just cracked on its own.

My Subaru Starlink Infotainment System has been inoperative since my local dealer attempted to install an update. The update is on back order. I was not informed that this system is no inoperative and if I were in a collision or other emergency the system would not be able to notify 911 dispatchers of my emergency or location.

While traveling at highway speed, the sunroof "exploded" with a load noise and rained pieces of glass into the passenger compartment. No rock or other projectile was seen coming toward the car. It seemed spontaneous.

Navigation system gives wrong directions and has almost caused me to get in accidents as a result. Accurate voice command is needed for safety when traveling on the highway and realize I am lost and need to find out when to begin to move over and to exit it is unable to understand my very clear speech.

We purchased a new 2018 subaru outback in july 2018. My wife was the primary driver of this vehicle. By april 2019, my wife was suffering from severe knee and hip pain on the right side of her body.

Sunroof spontaneously shattered/exploded while driving without impact or other vehicles around. Outside temperature was 86 degrees at the time. Was at highway speed on an interstate.

30 miles left as indicated on fuel tank, car engine shut down while driving on road and came to a complete stop in left side of highway, my family were passengers in my car and this could have been a fatal situation. A good samaritan helped us move our car over to side of road out of harms way.

Vehicle was parked. Sunroof exploded. The glass was not damaged previously.

While backing out of the driveway rear cross traffic alert failed to provide an alert of the vehicle approaching on the street, collision followed. Security camera video of the accident is available however size exceeds the maximum specified for the upload.

While parked in the sun and with a sunshade installed inside, we returned to our car and removed the sunshield and noticed a new windshield crack in the windshield. Sitting still. This car has the eyesight system and was told the windshield is very expensive and insurance and subaru say not covered.

Starlink radio in touring model with 8"screen unreliable. Had issues with touchscreen freezing and cd loading error from purchase date in august to dec. Dealer tried to perform software update and fried radio.

My vehicle launches forward even when I do apply the break. I may be cruising, doing the speed limit, 25 mph and my car will try to accelerate to go faster.

Arriving at my childhood home, I followed the driveway to the left to park in front of the garage door. With my foot on the brake and slowly rolling to a stop, the car suddenly accelerated and jolted forward making contact with the garage door and the frame of the garage. This caused damage to the house, garage door and the front of the car.

Radio intermittently switches channels, touch screen does not comply with commands. Radio has not responded to reset commands.

The head unit of the stereo/info system is malfunctioning.

Touchscreen on radio system is delamination causing the system to cycle through sources, ie: fm, am, sxm, and Bluetooth. This causes distractions while driving. Dealership is aware of issue and stated it was common.

I purchased my car used from dealership in Temecula,CA [XXX]. My first windshield cracked and was replaced [XXX] at dealership after a small rock hit my car on the freeway, I paid for this replacement. My 2nd windshield cracked for no reason and was replaced [XXX] at dealership Subaru paid for only 1/2 the price to replace.

Two incidents of unprovoked acceleration 1st incident: approximately March 2021 Slowly backing up at a gas station and experienced sudden acceleration causing the car to hit a metal guard at the fuel pump. This resulted in damage to the vehicle requiring repair.

This vehicle has a malfunctioning Infotainment system that causes it to continuously select menu options while driving. It is a safety issue as it is very distracting, and the entire unit is unable to be used even when parked. The Subaru dealership in Huntington Beach and Santa Ana CA informed me that it is a manufacturing issue, an I am on a waitlist for the part.

Gas Gauge is not working correctly. This problem was supposedly fixed in a previous recall.

The Brake, ABS, and traction control (VDC) lights all came on a couple of weeks ago. I brought the vehicle into the Subaru dealership and they diagnosed a failed Vehicle Dynamics Control board as the problem. I've requested to receive the old VDC board.

While beginning a left turn with arrow, the motor died and the vehicle stopped. I put the transmission in neutral and attempted to restart without sucsess. I then placed the transmission in park in the driving lane with moving traffic, attempted to restart,this attempt was sucessfull.iproceeded home without further trouble.

We have had 4 windshields on this vehicle and now the current one that was just replaced last October ( 3 months ago) just broke too. If we have this replaced it will be the 5th windshield in 4 years. It is unsafe because visibility is reduced.

The windshield on my Subaru developed a crack across the length of windshield after a minor rock impact. A few weeks later a second crack developed randomly. The new crack crosses infront of the eyesight system.

The vehicle was parked with no one driving at the time and the windshield developed a crack in the glass for no apparent reason "while parked". There was no road hazard or reason for the crack to occur and the vehicle was not even in motion, and I could not understand why it happened, until I began reading the incidents online about multiple other owners experiencing the same issue.

Since June of 2020, my 2018 Subaru Outback has now had four cracked windshields with little to no explanation. The first crack was repaired by a Subaru dealership, only to crack again within 24 hours. The same dealership refused to cover the cost of the second windshield replacement.

This car has had battery drainage issues since I purchased it new in 2017. It has only 10,000 miles on it and and is on it's 3rd battery. The car must be jump-started in order to drive it.

Rear gate malfunctions sometimes doesn't open sometimes doesn't close properly (this allows exhaust gases to be drawn into the vehicle) when you drive with the gate not completely closed. Dealer has no solution for the problem. This happens on a regular bases.

January 27, 2020 I was driving about 45 MPH on nj hwy 29 to my son's home. Small rock hit windshield and made a small crack, less than 1 inch. I called insurance who would send a mobile repair truck to repair it onsite at my son's house.

I own a 2018 subaru outback and the windshield crack for no reason while I was driving. When I went to replace it safelite glass was in able to recalibrate the eyesight camera. They tried to switch the aftermarket windshield with an oem window and it didn't work and sent me to the subaru dealer to recalibrate.

I owned a 2018 subaru outback for about a year. In that year my windshield cracked three times across more than half of the windshield upon impact of a tiny rock. The first time it happened I was stopped in a parking lot, and turned on my AC which caused the windshield to split- I couldn't even find a chip that caused the huge crack.

During 4th week august 2019, I made an emergency stop on the shoulder on interstate 90. There was usual traffic, not sure if there was a tiny rock which came flying on my windshield, I haven't heard any noise nor I have seen any chipping.

Keyless access system has issues. Several times I have found the car unlocked and / or with the rear hatch door approximately half way open. I've noticed also that sometimes other person fob interfering with my car.

We own 2 2018 subaru outbacks. We have had to replace the windshield in each one twice (a piece) and one of them has a cracked windshield again. After looking on line I find that we are not the only ones who have had to replace the windshields multiple times.

Windshield is very susceptible to chipping from the smallest stone fragments, then easily spreads. We had it replaced along with recalibration of the eye sight. Cost was 697.00 prior to that any time you would hear the faintest sound of something hitting the windshield you would see a tiny chip mark.

My gas gauge says I have 95 miles before ineed gas however my warning light comes on at that time tell me to get gas right away

I had owned my 2018 subaru outback for about 6 months. I was driving on a state highway when my windshield was hit with a small rock. It caused a small crack in the windshield.

Battery acid has leaked from battery and all over brackets and bolts. Battery has low charge voltage.

The windshield on my 2018 outback cracked within the first 150 miles of ownership.the subaru service department said it was caused by something hitting the windshield which is a possibility but was not the case. I had the windshield replaced by my insurance company and I paid the deductible amount. I drove the outback back to my house and parked it for a week while I drove my other car.

The windshield cracks and shatters for no reason. I have now replaced two windshields and they continue to break, even though no impacts with flying debris occurred. Many outback owners report similar things happening.

Windshield cracked a second time just a few months after the new windshield was replaced. The pebble that hit the windshield wasn't large on either occasion. The dealership charges a large fee to calibrate the eye sight feature and that can only be done at a dealership so we can't get a better/stronger windshield anywhere else nor purchase a competitively priced one.

The windshield breaks from either nothing at all or even the slightest rock ding. We've replaced the windshield twice in under one year

The radio malfunctions, it crackles, static interference, other stations interfere with current station. This occurs during all weather conditions and all different roads and whether car is moving or stationary have been to the dealer several times.

Windshield severely stress cracked and had to be replaced within 10 months of ownership. This was not covered by dealer warranty and I had to pay to have replaced. Windshield contractor told me that subaru is using thinner glass now that stresses very easily.

Rear liftgate operates intermittent and when open intermittently will not close; I have had to drive the vehicle with the liftgate not fully closed or latched. I have had the vehicle in service seven times.

The steering with lane departure warning will sometimes jerk the car from side to side, as if self correcting, even though the car is well within the lane. At times the car also feels like it is hydroplaning on dry ground with little steering feedback. Purchased used with a carfax report indicating no problems.

Navigation system sucks!!!!!!!!! This is very frustrating and causes road rage !!!!! While driving the system usually will not accept voice commands.

On february 22, 2019, the plastic cover on the dash below the steering wheel on the driver's side came loose while I was driving. It was hanging down attached by wires and dangled over the accelerator and brake pedals, interfering with their safe operation. I was on a highway about a mile from my home when this happened.

The radio display head unit failed. The rear back-up camera and and warning signals are inoperable. I have been without the systems for three weeks and subaru customer service can not provide a date when this repair can be made.

Touch screen has delamination that causes false control of functions controlled by the touch screen. Due to delamination of the screen it can make false phone calls, change the radio station or modify system settings, causing dangerous distractions for the driver.

The infotainment system in the car has suffered from screen delamination, which is apparently common with these models. This has left the touchscreen both non-responsive to touch as well as randomly selecting items on the screen, rendering it unusable. This is a safety issue because the only way to deactivate Reverse Automatic Braking and the rear parking sensors is through the touchscreen.

Star system is malfunctioning. I cannot access the control panel because of delamination. This causes difficulty viewing backup camera and driver distraction.

The display screen has spots and fog like symptoms on the screen. Certain angles when the sun hits the screen it is not visible to see what is on the screen like the map or other settings.

Touchscreen is sticking or not working, I understand this is a standard problem with Subaru. I also wanted to report issues with Touchscreen on my 2018 Subaru Outback.

MMy wife got into the car and as she was removing the sun shield, she lightly bumped the rear view mirror. It imploded covering her and the passenger seat with small sharp glass shards. I was just opening the passenger door to get inside and did not get covered with the glass shards.

My sunroof spontaneously combusted while driving, without anything hitting the vehicle or any pre-existing damage. The glass shattered everywhere while going down the highway.

The navigation/radio/app/rear back-up camera/control center malfunctioned Sept. 2022; replacement unit took over two months to arrive. That unit failed in March 2023.

Starlink Infotainment system, moves between sound system functions on its own, like you have touched the touchscreen repeatedly. Sirius Radio will no longer stay attached to a station and play. Reset failed to correct.

The head unit touch screen is delaminating making it difficult to see the backup camera view while backing the vehicle up. The unit is also constantly switching through radio stations and makes phone calls when I have my phone hooked up to the vehicle to charge it. I cannot turn the unit off.

car battery dies if tailgate is opened for several minutes. Had to replace battery in January 2022 and still have issues with the battery.

Windshield chipped with small pebble on highway. Chip was approximately the size of a penny.

Driving on residential road, heard a spontaneous pop and did not know what it was. By the end of the drive there was an approximately 2 foot long crack in the center of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Crack started from top edge of the windshield, nothing had hit it, and proceeded to spread quickly.

Gas gauge appears to be out of calibration. Not giving good / accurate readings. It's "50-50".

My windshield was cracked unreasonably with minor contact through routine snow removal with a snow brush. With routine wiping of the snow off of my windshield, the snow brush made minor contact with the windshield, and the bottom of the windshield cracked. The resulting crack is approximately 2-3 feet long at the bottom of the windshield.

Battery kept dieing the first time car was only 2 weeks oldit died at least 10 times since also if tailgate is left open car battery is dead after 5 minutes

In a rural town I was driving 30mph. Weather was overcast 60 degrees with occasional showers. I was moving straight.

The windshield has developed a crack starting at the very bottom below the plastic edge, with not apparent impact site.

When starting the vehicle, the screen for the backup camera, periodically remains dark. When this happens, I do not have the use of the back up camera.

Windshield is cracked.

Driver side window will not close, will go up than down half way. If trying to close the window when it starts to rain/snow and it does't close can be a distraction to the driver, especially when driving on the highway at speeds of 70mph. This has been problem since I have owned this car and reported too subaru during the warranty, also know on the internet for a long time.

On infrequent yet multiple occasions since purchasing the car in spring 2018, after hanging up from a bluetooth phone call, the radio would blast at full decibels and be unresponsive to attempted adjustments with the volume control. On all occasions except for today's event, I was driving on major highways, becoming startled, then having to immediately try to rectify the ear-blasting sound.

While driving a rock.. Not a large one, cracked my windshield which ultimately progressed through out the windshield. One other time a similar situation occurred when a small rock hit the windshield causing damage to it.

Windshield spontaneously cracked from driver's side about 4 inches toward center. I actually witnessed the crack suddenly appear while hearing a cracking sound. The vehicle was in motion at the time; I was driving at 65 MPH on a smooth stretch of highway.

The key got stuck in the ignition, and the visor on passenger does not swing correctly, the radio turns on when I start the car even after the radio was turned off

Our 2018 outback almost killed my husband. He was getting into the car (it was running) and just opened the door, when the car rolled back. He was pinned between the door and the garage frame and fortunately the he was able to roll into the garage.

Driving approximately 50 MPH on south us hwy 231 (left lane), without any incident rear passenger window popped and shattered and then broken glass fell into backseat of car. There was no car in right lane or in front of my car. There were no adverse road conditions.

Exploding sunroof. The sunroof suddenly shattered into pieces while driving on a freeway offramp with no other cars or bridges nearby. It sounded like an explosion.

On start up of vehicle the radio automatically comes on at a loud volume and cannot be adjusted or turned off for a couple of minutes. This is very dangerous when trying to backup or move out of a parking situation. I have been informed by subaru mechanics that there is no way to keep the radio from automatically coming on when I start the car.

The windshield cracked from a tiny chip that spread rapidly to about 2feet in length over 4 days. This is my second windshield replacement in less than 12 months. The outback windshield design is weak, and in my opinion dangerous.

I was driving about 25 MPH when my bridgestone tire, model dueler h/p sport as, blew-out on the passenger rear side. The tire had only 800 miles on it.

A crack developed in the lower left corner of the front passenger window. The crack is about 7 inches in length, running from the bottom of the window - where it meets the rubber gasket of the door - up and to the right. It obscures the right side mirror.
