2019 Subaru Forester Other Problems

Your car suddenly accelerated on its own while you were waiting for your garage door to open, forcing it through the garage wall and into your home with enough force to crush a freezer, furnace, water heater, and other items. The vehicle wouldn't stop until it had crashed through enough obstacles to physically prevent further movement. Additionally, the airbags did not deploy despite the severe impact.

My Subaru smelled like gas and caught on fire while I was driving to work less than 72 hours after it left the service department at the local Subaru dealership. Earlier that week I dropped the car off for service due to a check engine light and multiple other warning lights on the dashboard.

CAR HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED BY SUBARU SERVICE DEPT ON 2/27/2024. ON 3/1/2024, WHILE TRAVELLING IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, WE SMELLED A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AND WERE ALERTED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT OUR CAR WAS LEAKING A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE IN THE ROADWAY. WE PULLED OVER TO A SAFE AREA, EVACUATED THE CAR, AND THE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE WANTAGH FIRE DEPARTMENT. POLICE REPORT BY NY STATE POLICE WAS OBTAINED. CAR WAS REMOVED BY TOW TRUCK.

Front windshield spontaneously cracked in my 2019 Subaru Forester. Car was parked in a parking lot when there was a popping sound and then a crack appeared starting from the bottom corner of the passenger side. NO impact marks on the exterior or interior.

Purchased the vehicle brand new in dc of 2018. Since then it has had a series of electrical issues dating back to as early june of 2019. The air conditioner stopped working and I had to take the vehicle in to get serviced.

We have a 2019 subaru forester, problems have been with the eyesight slamming on the brakes for no reason, and turning on and off at random times. The major issue has been the slammed on brakes when the road ahead was clear, jarring me and passengers, my wife literally had whiplash and a headache from the extreme, unexpected braking.

As I was driving in the right hand lane on the florida turnpike at 75 MPH, my driver side rear door window spontaneously shattered. The entire window disintegrated with most of the glass flying into the car. Temperature was only about 75 degrees.

When start the vehicle cold or warm, the engine is loud and high RPM for 60 seconds. Vehicle shakes 2. After 60 seconds, the rattle/knocking noise from the engine kicks in and stays on.

I parked my 2019 subaru touring trim car in my cousin's driveway on friday, nov 29, 2019. There was no damage to the windshield. I visited with him over lunch.

Windshield cracked very easily with small road debris making contact while driving on the highway. The eyesight collision avoidance occasionally does not function due to the crack in the windshield.

The back door will not open with remote control, dashboard open button, or manual button on door itself. There are ways mechanics can open it, but not your average child or adult. Sometimes the back gate is is the only way out to rescue a passenger.

I was backing out of parking space, approximately 5 MPH. Rear view mirror fell off windshield. Windshield at place of mirror attachment had broken so a large chunk of the windshield was still attached to the mirror.

The Thermal Control Valve on my Subaru Forester failed while I was driving recently. The failure caused the car to stop while making a turn. It was a very frightening experience.

2019 Subaru switched from a thermostat to a "Thermo Control Valve" (TCV). They eventually redesigned it in 2022 due to so many failures. Mine failed rendering the cars "eyesight", lane assist, cruise control and brake assist useless.

While driving on the highway my car started to stall and rough idle, It wouldn't drive past 2 RPM sometimes less and would stall. My car constantly stalling made multiple cars/semi-trucks almost hit me and cause them to swerve. The problem was confirmed to be the thermo control valve eroding, which Grayson of Subaru verified.

Thermocontrol valve failure. Part failure common to this vehicle make and model. Part has been repaired at this time.

The following has happened 3 times in the last year. While stopped and waiting for the light to change, my foot on the brake, damp outside, car stalls, the engine shuts off, eye sight flashes on dash stating eye sight off. I have to put the car into "park" and restart the engine.

The auto stop/start feature occasionally causes the entire vehicle to totally shut off. This happened 3 times 2 years ago and I was to it was a low battery. On 10/4/25, the car is stopped at a red light on a four lane highway and when my wife stepped on the gas to start, the vehicle totally shut off.

Since I purchased the vehicle, I have experienced recurring problems with the starter system, affecting the car's performance and reliability. Despite receiving regular maintenance and being evaluated at the authorized Subaru dealership in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the issue remains unresolved.

The rear window glass imploded while on the freeway. This created a loud bang noise and sent small pieces of glass throughout the passenger cabin creating a substantial distraction.

I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2019, and since them i have had to replace my windshield once in January of 2023 (piece of gravel on highway), then in February of this year, my passenger front window busted out .. nothing hit it, it just blew out while i was driving. Weather that day was 53. Then Friday, another windshield crack near eyesite device. This will require another full replacement. At this pace, i cannot afford to keep this car. Before i purchased this car i searched long and hard for the safest vehicle i could find and Subaru always came up on top. Now that i'm an owner having to dish out of pocket every few months for glass replacement, i'm starting to rethink my purchase. I've done research and have found thousands of the same complaints online.. Its a shame that the company is not taking any steps to improve this huge design flaw!

My windshield mysteriously cracked there was not existing damage. When I research my car's make model and year I learned that there was a class action lawsuit that was settled that requires Subaru to cover the cost of the windshield. At the time of purchase this defect was not disclosed to me. I reached out to the dealership and they seem to have no knowledge of this. Additionally, they are not taking any responsibility.

Car was sitting outside for the day (with camera observing it). Windshield had no issues when the car was moved to the street in the morning. Windshield was cracked from driver side bottom corner all the way past the half way point and about half way up the windshield. Review of camera video confirmed that no one or thing touched the car during the day. Suspect that the windshield is defective.

I am concerned as my car was safely parked, once I started it and it said eyesight off, flashing S symbol, the heat thermo Stat changes back and forth from hot and cold, car is not warming up and check engine light came on. I am very concerned as it is the winter, and I have my baby in the car. Please advise. This seems very unusual and never happened before. The vehicle have around 23K miles.

We were driving in 6 lane traffic in Atlanta and the traffic came to a stop. The Subaru Auto Stop Start turned off the engine. When the traffic started and I released the brake, the engine would not start and the battery died trying to start. This left us in the middle of 6 lanes of traffic with a dead car. It was a significant personal safety issue. Luckily were were on a slight down slope and was able to have the car start rolling forward while in neutral and made our way to the shoulder, with cars passing at 70mph and narrowly missing the car. Prior to this, the vehicle was working properly. This is the 5th time we have had issues with the Subaru restarting after the Auto Stop Start turned off the engine. All prior times we were able to start the engine but had to turn off the car and then turn it on again. There is no way to turn off the auto start feature permanently, having to remember to turn it off each time you get in the car. There is also to no built in feature to not have the Auto Start Stop not turn the engine off if the battery health is not 100% and there is a chance it will not turn on again. It is a significant safety issue not having a permanent way to turn off the auto on off feature or have the car disable the feature if the engine or battery are not 100%.

When I am stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, and I have not manually turned off the auto stop-start feature, from time to time the car will not start when I depress the gas. Often this is accompanied by a screeching sound - the sound the car makes if you try to shut it off when it is in gear. The danger is that I cannot move the car forward without putting the car in park, turning the engine off, then turning the car/engine on, and then depressing the gas. If there were no other drivers on the road, this would be an inconvenience but not a safety hazard. But there are other drivers who have no idea why I am not moving forward and they get impatient and try to pass me in areas where drivers coming in the other direction do not expect it. I have witnessed several near accidents. I have taken it to the dealer who cannot reproduce the problem but an internet search reports many other Suburu drivers who have experienced the same problem.

The engine cuts out and stalls while turning through an intersection (with danger of being rear ended) or driving through parking lots at low speed. The car will zoom forward right after that, usually while in a parking lot nearly hitting pedestrians on several occasions! This issue is a frequent occurrence becoming more dangerous the past 2 years. We have our car serviced at the Subaru dealership in Prescott, AZ and have told them about this. They tell us the same thing when we tell them what it does, they say "NO IT DOESN'T".

2019 Subaru Forester with 38,000 miles. Heat stopped working. 30 minutes later, check engine light came on.

Car would not restart after engine turned off multiple times at intersections. All warning lights came on. Had to turn off vehicle completely and restart.

At 70594 miles TCV (Temperature Control ) failed Check engine light came on and sfety features like eyesight were disabled. Subaru has known for a couple years these valves were bad and redesigned them for replacement. Because I was out of warranty it cost me over 2100 dollars to get it repaired

A crack appeared in my windshield on the passenger side starting from the bottom side slanting towards the middle of the passenger's vision. I do not recall anything hitting my windshield. In researching a replacement cost I read a lot of complaints from Subaru customers who had to replace their windshields, some several times, because of thinner glass used by Subaru.

2019 Subaru Forester My windshield has spontaneously cracked twice (August 28, 2021, April 18, 2022) without being hit by any object. Windshield was replaced after 2021 incident and will again require replacement after today's incident. It has chipped and required repair on 2 other occasions.

Over the weekend, the check engine light came on and I lost heat in my vehicle instantly (like flipping a light switch) after already driving with full heat for about 30 minutes.

I was on a sharp incline at idle behind a line of cars, waiting for the light to turn green and my Subaru Forrester surged forward, out of my control, and hit the back of the vehicle in front of me, causing damage to my vehicle and the one in front of me.

While driving on an expressway I heard what sounded like a tiny piece of gravel hitting my windshield. I did not see anything hit. Next thing I saw was a crack spreading across the driver side just above my line of vision. Within two or three minutes it was a foot and a half long. I’m not sure anything hit my windshield or not. There were no other cars in my immediate vicinity and no construction debris. The road was clear. Very puzzling

We bought our Subaru Forester after researching the cars with the best safety features. The car feels unsafe because of 2 problems: Engine hesitation and sudden acceleration. We have barely avoided an incident on two occasions in a parking lot. We were braking for a car heading toward us when our car lurched ahead coming close to hitting an approaching car. Another time we were braking for a stop sign and the car accelerated into moving traffic. We have not reported it to our dealer hoping it was a fluke. We are going to bring it to the dealer because it's obvious that there is something dangerously wrong with our car. I can't report dates - it happens each time we drive with no warning - no lights. Suddenly the engine hesitates acting like it has run out of gas or it lurches ahead, accelerating on its own.

WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. HUGE CRACK FROM LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD ARCING UP TOWARDS CENTER OF WINDSHIELD. CAR WAS PARKED. NO SIGN OF DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD OTHER THAN LARGE SINGLE CRACK.

MY CARS WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED FROM THE BASE UP OVER 12 INCHES. THE CURIOUS THING ABOUT IT IS I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT IN THREE WEEKS DUE TO FOOT SURGERY AND IT HAS BEEN PARKER. THERE ARE NO TREES OR POSSIBILITY OF DEBRIS NEARBY. I DIDN'T HAVE A CRACK BEFORE MY SURGERY, MY CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN NOR HAS IT BEEN TAMPERED WITH. I HAVE A CAMERA ON IT 24 HOURS A DAY THAT NOTIFIES ME IF ANYONE COMES NEAR. THE CRACK IS DEEP AND LONG AND SUBARU HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR THE SAFETY OF IT'S WINDSHIELDS BEING DEFECTIVE. SINCE I HAVEN'T DRIVEN ANYWHERE IT IS CONCERNING THAT MY WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED SO BADLY.

WINDOW CRACKING WAY TO EASY 2 CRACKS NOW WITH ONLY 6K MILES

ON 2/9/21 I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE LOWER CORNER OF MY WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NEAR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. IT WASN'T HIT BY ANY OBJECT AND THERE'S NO POINT OF IMPACT FROM A ROCK OR OTHER ITEM. IT JUST BEGAN TO CRACK BEHIND THE WIPER. THIS IS THE 5TH WINDSHIELD I HAVE HAD ON THIS VEHICLE. 4 WINDSHIELDS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THIS IS ANOTHER ONE THAT WILL PROBABLY NEED REPLACED TOO. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 3 SMALL DEFECTS/ CRACKS IN THIS WINDOW ALONG WITH THIS NEW UNEXPLAINED CRACK.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED TO WHERE IT NEEDED RPARE WHEN JUST ON A DIRT ROAD

26,000 MILES ON MY CAR NO REAL REASON AS TO WHY MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. BUT IT DID, THERE WAS NO WINDSHIELD CHIP. IT JUST DECIDED TO CRACK. REALLY FRUSTRATING WHILE OUT OF TOWN. COSTS $1200.00.

I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY ABOUT 55 MPH WHEN MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER I COULD NOT SEE A ROCK OR ANYTHING ELSE, EXCEPT A TINY DOT AND A CRACK GOING OUT FROM IT. OVER THE NEW FEW DAYS THE CRACK STARTED GROWING. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND I ONLY HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE PARKED IN EMPTY PARKING LOT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. REPLACING THIS DEFECTIVE PART WILL COST OVER $1000

WHEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE GPS GIVES AN AUDIO COMMAND "EXIT RIGHT AHEAD", BUT IT IS NOT FOR THE NEXT EXIT. IT IS FOR ONE OR EVEN TWO EXITS LATER. THIS IS VERY MISLEADING AND NEARLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE WHEN WE REALIZED THAT WE SHOULD NOT GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT, WE VEERED BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SUBURU SHOULD REPROGRAM ALL THE GPS SYSTEMS ON THIS MODEL.

THE WINDSHIELD HAS 3 CHIPS AND A 12 INCH LONG CRACK RUNNING DOWN THE MIDDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY FOR 3 CRACKS THE LAST CHIPS IS FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE.

2019 SUBARU FORESTER WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY CRACKED BY ITSELF DURING DRIVING IN A HOT DAY. NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW THE TIME IT HAPPENED. REVIEWED DASH CAM AND CONFIRMED NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW. CIRCULAR CRACK WHICH CAN BE BARELY FELT FROM THE OUTSIDE, BUT DEEP ALMOST INTO THE 2ND LAYER OF GLASS.

I purchased my vehicle in february 2019 and do not drive very far to work. I do very little driving on the highway. In june 2019, with less than 4000 miles, we were returning home from a trip when we heard the windshield crack.

We purchase a 2019 subaru forester on march 29, 2019. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had three separate incidents involving the vehicle's windshield. On april 3, 2019 a stone hit the windshield that required us to submit a claim to our insurance company for repair.

The front windshield seemed to spontaneously crack while the car was in motion on an interstate highway. The crack began in the lower middle part of the windshield and spread upward about ten inches. I advised my subaru dealer of the issued, and they referred me to safelite auto glass, where I replaced the windshield at my own expense.

Was merging to highway at about 35 MPH, when suddenly heard something hitting windshield. Saw tiny dot on windshield and the making of the line on it that it cracked. Vehicle had under 6000 miles.

I purchased my 2019 forester new. After 3,500 miles the windshield cracked. I was driving on the interstate and noticed the crack in the middle of the windshield and quickly spreading across the windshield.

Weather display won't show city where I live ( philadelphia) but will only show princeton / trenton nj. No matter where I drive( delaware) for example it still shows princeton/trenton weather. Took back to dealer numerous times.

There windshield went from fine, not chipped or cracked in the evening to having an 18inch crack in the morning. Nothing occurred during this time to cause the crack. The car was parked in the back of my driveway overnight.

This complaint relates to the unsafe nature of the auto start/stop feature on our 2019 subaru forester. The vehicle automatically shuts the engine off when you come to a stop, at a stop sign for example. It then takes a second or more for the engine to start again after taking your foot off the brake.

Windshield is weak and cracks very easily. Have had it replaced and five days later it needs replacing again due to crack. Both times from a small rock hitting the windshield on the highway.

The Eyesight feature went out and the heater went out and I took the car to a mechanic and he said it had a faulty thermo control valve that needs replacement.

This is the second time I am reporting this issue in the past few months. Three times this week my car has gone into the "gas saving" mode at a stop sign or red light and has not turned back on. I get a warning and need to turn the car off and then back on.

I came out to my parked vehicle to find a large crack on the windshield.

All side windows and the sun roof have become scratched. This vehicle is garaged, has 28,000 miles and never goes off road. The scratches extend into the door gasket area thus reaching to very top of the glass.

Vehicle was parked in a private single-home garage near Houston, TX. While parked overnight the windshield cracked spontaneously. Crack is ~18 inches long and goes to the bottom edge of the glass around the middle of the windshield.

Front window has a hairline crack inside glass about 6 in. There is no impact point from a rock or object, it just suddenly appeared.

BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE: WE purchased 2 batteries within 2022, and it keeps dying. We understand there may be some type of class action lawsuit related to this issue as it seems to be fairly common.

Several times I have needed to jump start my battery. Most recent incidence: I parked and was waiting to get out of the car. I turned back on the Car after driving for 15-20 minutes, but did not turn on the engine.

Vehicle suffered sudden and extensive crack in the windshield. No impact caused the crack. The crack stared from the bottom.

The battery drains while the vehicle is off. The car is frequently dead after being off for a short period of time, requiring jump starts and replacement batteries far more often than with a typical vehicle.

I was on road driving at night when I heard a crack. When I got to a lit area I noticed 3 inch crack appeared in the lower center of the windshield. No debris hit the windshield all I heard was the distictive sound of the crack.

Bought a brand new 2019 forester in sept 2019. Its windshield cracked twice from a minor rock impact during highway driving at about 65 MPH.

Defective windshield crack begins at the top of windshield and declines to middle of windshield. There is no apparent object impact causing the windshield to crack.

My windshield randomly cracked. One morning I woke up and went out to my car and it had a large crack after being parked outside of my apartment all night.

When I was driving on the highway, I heard the crack, but I didn't see the object. After I heard the sound, I saw there's a crack on the windshield.

Moon roof will randomly fail to close when pressing the "close" button. Need to turn the ignition off and then re-start the vehicle again before the button/moon roof will operate again. It already happened three times since septemeber 7, 2019.

Rear hatch will not open using remote or button on dashboard or button on door. This happened when I was parked at grocery store. Tried again at home and still not working.

Owned this car for 3 months and 4x the rear gate does not open using the appropriate button on the dashboard. Requires use of key fob rear gate open/close button or flattening back seat to drag groceries out side door. Happens in park when trying to unload items from rear.

Key cannot be removed from ignition switch even if vehicle is in park. Occurs on a regular basis now. There is a subaru TSB for this (16-112-18r).

As I was driving in the right hand lane on the interstate, my back side door window spontaneously shattered. I had been driving for one hour, temperature was around 80 degrees.

#1 ) while applying the brake at low speed the CVT transmission causes the vehicle to jump forward countering my braking control. #2) while driving the visuals and driver assist alerts distract the drivers visual attention away from the road

My complaint may not be valid but I though it appropriate since many others are having windshield problems with their 2018/19 subaru foresters. I had a small rock bounce of the windshield while driving at 35mph on aug 1,2019 and now the shield is spider webbed with two long cracks and two smaller cracks.

Bottom passenger side windshield cracked across glass. Grew fast and still growing across to drivers side. Did not see anything hit it.

Crack occurred on passenger side windshield with in overnight. I haven't heard any rock hitting sound.

Homelink, the in car operation for garage door openers changed creating what I believe to be a hazard. The current version only operates with the ignition on while previous models did not have this requirement. I contacted subaru and their reply was "working as intended".

I was driving on the highway nowhere near another car, when my windshield spontaneously cracked. It's a horizontal crack across almost half of my windshield on the passenger side, about 19 inches long and 14 inches from the bottom. I was out in the open, no trees, no overpass, no other cars nearby.

Wife was driving down the highway and hit a very small pebble about the size of a skittle and the windshield cracked and needs a full replacement.

I was driving the vehicle and a crack appeared spontaneously in the windshield starting from the bottom of the windshield close to the wiper. I have been unable to obtain a replacement windshield due to backorder and unavailability of subaru windshields for this vehicle. I am unable to drive the car due to the condition of the windshield.

Drove the vehicle in the morning (heat on high). Parked it in a private lot for about 5 hrs. There was light snow/ice that day.
