highUNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
CrashFiled: Apr 2025

Your truck's forward collision avoidance and traction control systems are intervening during winter driving in ways that feel dangerous to you. When your truck slides on ice with traction control off, the system cuts power to the wheels instead of letting you control the slide, which caused your truck to slide into a ditch and sustain front-end damage. Additionally, the automatic braking system engages unexpectedly when it perceives a collision threat that may not actually occur. You're unable to fully disable these safety systems—removing fuses affects other vehicle functions. A complete disable option or override control for these systems may help prevent unwanted interventions during winter driving.

Driver statement: “I was trying to make a turn from pine brook Rd into peace valley RD and the person coming from peace valley rd was invading my lane, so I tried to avoid him and hit a tree. I was unconscious for an unknown amount of time. When I woke up I saw smoke and I tried to remove my seat belt. It wasn’t coming off at first but then I figured out how to remove it. As I left the vehicle, I was feeling light headed and dizzy. And wanted to lay on the road. Someone came for my rescue and I saw fire underneath the van. So I told him that we should move away from the van. The van caught on fire and I was taken to the hospital."
