STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:LINK:CONNECTION

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Ram 3500 and 2014-2018 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab and Ram 2500 vehicles. The outboard steering linkage jam nut may loosen, allowing one end of the drag link to separate.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will check the steering linkage jam nut tightness, replacing the drag link assembly or welding the nut to the adjuster sleeve, free of charge. The recall began March 22, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V06.

Streetcar ORV LLC (Streetcar) is recalling certain American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) 3" Dualsport aftermarket suspension kits, part numbers N0436000 and N0436001, sold for installation on 2013-2018 RAM 2500 and 3500HD trucks. Improper installation and machining of the original equipment steering knuckle may weaken the joint between the steering drag link and knuckle.

Fix: Streetcar will notify owners and dealers will inspect and install a new steering knuckle, free of charge. The recall began December 3, 2018. Owners may contact AEV customer service at 1-248-926-0256, extension 500.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 RAM 2500 trucks, and RAM 3500 trucks and cab chassis. The affected vehicles may have inadequate welds securing the front track bar frame brackets, possibly resulting in the bracket components separating from the frame.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will weld on a new track bar frame bracket or replace the frame of the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on September 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S58.

Your steering system is making a humming noise from the hydroboost pump. The problem is a nylon tube inside the high-pressure steering line that breaks apart and circulates through the system. This issue has persisted despite Dodge revising the hose on earlier models, and you're concerned it could eventually cause your brakes or power steering to fail. The fix will likely involve replacing the high-pressure steering hose with an updated version.

Your truck had a recall fix where the dealer welded the track bar adjustment nut to prevent it from coming loose and causing steering loss. However, welding the nut permanently locked it in place, so now your vehicle can't be properly aligned because there's no way to adjust it anymore. The permanent fix would require replacing the entire track bar with a new one that allows for proper adjustment.

I WAS TOWING MY TRAVEL TRAILER AND ENTERED A SLIGHT LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH WHEN MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE STARTED TO SHAKE/WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY. I SLOWED DOWN AND IT STOPPED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED BOTH FRONT HUBS AND BEARINGS. WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP WHILE TURNING AND NOT TOWING, IT STILL SHAKES/WOBBLES UNCONTROLLABLY. I NOTIFIED DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND THEY STILL FAILED TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.

TL* THE CONTACT WAS A LAWYER CALLING ON BEHALF OF HER CLIENT WHO OWNED A 2015 RAM 3500. THE LAWYER STATED WHILE HER CLIENT WAS HAULING HORSES AT AN UNKNOWN RATE OF SPEED, THE STEERING ROD BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER DROVE DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND HIT A SIGN, TOTALING THE VEHICLE. THE LAWYER WAS UNAWARE IF ANY WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE; THE LAWYER WAS ALSO UNAWARE IF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE DRIVER NOR THE HORSES WERE INJURED DUE TO THE CRASH. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE LAWYER DISCOVERED AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V021000 (STEERING); WHICH SHE LINKED TO HER CLIENT'S FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK AND TURNING SLIGHTLY LEFT, I HIT A SMALL BUMP ON THE ROAD AND MY TRUCK STARTED VIBRATING UNCONTROLLABLY AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED SO HARD THAT I SLID ACROSS OTHER LANES OF TRAFFIC TO MY RIGHT WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STEER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE COMPLETE STOP, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND STEER THE VEHICLE. SINCE THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED, I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN WHEN I'M DRIVING WHILE TURNING AND HITTING A BUMP. I'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, STATE HIGHWAYS AND FLYOVER ON RAMPS. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND IS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THE MOMENT.

THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN LOSING IT'S FUNCTION AFTER TURNING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET, AT APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. IT WOULD TURN APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES WITH NO AFFECT SUDDENLY. I HAD IT TRANSPORTED TO THE RENO DODGE DEALERSHIP. THEY AT FIRST TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR A REALIGNMENT. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY IDENTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE 'DRAG LINKAGE.' I WENT BACK TO RENO DODGE AND THEY ADMITTED THERE IS A RECALL, BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE UPDATED INFIRMATION FROM CHRYSLER, SO THEY WOULD NIT FIX IT. I HAD THE REPAIRS DONE AT THE OTHER SHOP, AND FCA HAS NOW BEEN AVOIDING REIMBURSING ME. THEY KEPT TELLING ME THEY COULDN'T IDENTIFY MY VIN, THEN THE HAD OTHER 'TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES',THEY CLOSE MY CASE AS SOON AS THEY OPEN IT! THEY HAVE DONE THIS 4 TIMES NOW!

TAKATA RECALL WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS OF 65 TO 80 MPH THE WHOLE TRUCK BEGINS TO VIBRATE.HAVE GOTTEN IT CHECKED MECHANICALLY FOR FAULTS.TIRES HAVE BEEN CHECKED AS WELL AS STEERING COMPONENTS AND SUSPENSION AND EVERYTHING IS IN GOOD SHAPE.WAS TOLD THAT ITS NORMAL FOR A 2015 RAM 3500 DUALLY TO VIBRATE SO MUCH .ITS NOT.THERE ABSOLUTELY NO READON WHY A NEWISH TRUCK SHOULD VIBRATE SO MUCH THAT IT FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO FALL APART ON ITS OWN.ITS NOT NORMAL AND ALL THE PEOPLE ON THE FORUMS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERS THAT IT IS NORMAL.IT IS A DRIVING HAZARD THAT ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE DODGE HAS LAWSUITS ON ITS FRONT DOOR FOR NEGLICENCE ON THEIR PART FOR THE BAD VIBRATIONS MAKING BOLTS FALL OFF AND CAUSING A WRECK.

TRUCK HAS 26,300 MILES ON IT. 7 DAYS AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK SERVICED AND ALIGNED AT MY LOCAL DEALER, WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN GAINSVILLE, FL, THE STEERING WHEEL SLOWLY BECAME MIS-ALIGNED TO THE LEFT BY OVER 180 DEGREES, CAUSING REDUCED ABILITY TO STEER TO THE LEFT, A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, A FAILURE OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE CONTROL MODULE, AND FAILURE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. I STOPPED AT NEAREST DEALER WHO SAID THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BUT DID NOT HAVE ANYONE AVAILABLE TO LOOK AT IT FOR AT LEAST A WEEK AND OFFERED NO FURTHER OPTIONS. BEING AS I WAS 200 MILES FROM HOME, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING DRAG LINK JAM NUTS WERE LOOSE ALLOWING THE DRAG LINK TO ROTATE AT RANDOM. HE WAS UNABLE TO TELL WHETHER THE DEALER FAILED TO TIGHTEN THEM AFTER THE ALIGNMENT OR BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER TIGHTENED AT THE FACTORY. THE DRAG LINK WAS RE-SET TO CENTER THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE JAM NUTS WERE TIGHTENED. I WAS ADVISED THAT HAD I NOT STOPPED TO HAVE IT FIXED, THE DRAG LINK COULD HAVE CONTINUED TO LOOSEN CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH INDICATES THIS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS.

THIS IS A DIESEL POWERED TRUCK. TWICE THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CREATED BY THE HYDROBOOST UNIT HAS BLOWN METAL HOSES APART RESULTING IN COMPLETE AND SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THE TRUCK WAS OPERATING AT VERY LOW SPEED. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH AND LIKELY DEATH. IN BOTH CASES, RAM REPLACED THE HOSE AND FLUID UNDER WARRAANTY, BUT HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE, WHICH IS THAT THE HYDROBOOST UNIT IS DEFECTIVE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 RAM 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS ON THE STEERING TIE ROD LOOSENED WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE STEERING TIE ROD MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING TO BE UNSTABLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUND ANY FAILURES, BUT STATED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THREADS ON THE TIE RODS WERE FINE, BUT NEEDED TO BE RE-ADJUSTED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.

THIS HAS AFFECTED A NUMBER OF TRUCKS IN DIFFERENT STATES THE PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY AT THE MANUFACTURER. LINK TO OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE RAM 3500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AND HAULING A TRAILER, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO TURN INDEPENDENTLY COUNTER CLOCKWISE AND BLOCKED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, LOOKED UNDERNEATH, AND NOTICED SOME BOLTS WERE LOOSE FROM THE STEERING CABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS WERE TIGHTENED MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,779....UPDATED 12/29/15 *BF THE CONSUMER LOOKED AT THE FRONT END AND SAW WHERE ONE OF THE NUTS HAD DETACHED FROM THE COUPLING AND THE OTHER NUT WAS LOOSE WHEN HE TOUCHED IT.
