Fuel System Recalls (1)
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2009-2012 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks currently, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Exposure to environmental conditions such as water mixed with road salt may cause the front fuel tank strap frame "T-Slot" bracket to corrode, possibly causing the fuel tank to drop and make contact with the ground.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will bolt a bracket reinforcement to the frame, free of charge. The recall began May 2, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U04.
Owner Complaints (66)
While driving at 55 mph, the strap holding your front fuel tank broke and the tank dropped below the truck's body. The strap had completely detached from its frame connection point. This is a serious safety concern because the entire fuel tank could have separated from the vehicle, risking fuel leakage, fire, or a collision. You'll need to have the tank strap replaced and the tank securely reattached to the frame.

You discovered that the front fuel tank strap under your vehicle has detached because the frame has rusted too severely for the strap to reattach properly. A recall (U04 / NHTSA 18V-160) exists for this issue, but your vehicle's VIN doesn't show it in the system even though your car meets the recall criteria, so dealers won't help. Your vehicle is currently unsafe to drive due to this safety concern. The fix will likely involve replacing the rusted frame section or welding/repairing it, along with properly reattaching or replacing the fuel tank strap.

You brought your truck to the dealer to complete a fuel bracket recall, but they told you it would cost nearly $1,700 out of pocket because related parts and labor aren't covered under the recall. One of your fuel tank straps has already come loose, which is a safety concern you're currently driving with until this can be fixed. The repair will likely involve removing and reinstalling the fuel tank straps and related components.

Your vehicle stalled while driving without any warning lights, and then wouldn't restart on the first attempts. After it finally restarted, you noticed the fuel pump kept running even after turning off the engine. A mechanic diagnosed a fuel pump relay failure and said the TIPM (totally integrated power module) needed replacement. This appears to be a known issue with this vehicle model.

Your fuel tank strap has corroded, which could potentially allow the fuel tank to shift or become unstable while driving. Your dashboard warning light didn't alert you to this problem. When you took your truck to the dealer, they couldn't repair it because there's no official recall on your vehicle's VIN, even though this issue may be related to a known fuel system problem affecting other Ram 1500s. The corrosion repair will likely involve replacing the fuel tank strap and possibly treating any rust damage to prevent future corrosion.

Your fuel tank strap corroded and detached from your truck while driving, causing loud noises and metal striking sounds. The dealer inspected the vehicle but didn't diagnose or repair the problem. The fuel tank strap will need to be replaced, and the area should be inspected for any damage caused by the detachment.

Your front gas tank strap has rusted and pulled away from the frame, causing your full gas tank to hang several inches lower than normal and risk dragging on the road. You were apparently eligible for an extended warranty to fix this issue, but you never received notice before it expired. A related recall (NHTSA 18V-160) apparently doesn't apply to your vehicle, though the warranty coverage did. The fix will likely involve replacing the rusted tank strap and reattaching the tank securely to the frame.

Your fuel tank's right front strap detached from the vehicle body and was dragging on the ground while driving at 50 MPH, leaving the fuel tank unsecured. You may have heard an abnormal thud but continued driving without noticing a warning light. Although the manufacturer has a program to repair fuel tank straps damaged by rust, your vehicle wasn't covered under it. The repair will likely involve reattaching or replacing the fuel tank mounting straps and inspecting for any damage.

You heard a loud knocking sound while driving, and mechanics found that both the front and rear fuel tank straps were damaged — the front strap was completely detached and the rear strap was cracked. Your fuel tank wasn't properly supported, which is a safety concern. The repair involves replacing both damaged fuel tank straps to securely reattach your fuel tank.

While driving on the highway over a bump, you heard a severe grinding noise. You discovered that the front fuel tank strap had pulled away from its welded bracket on the frame because the bracket had rusted through. The loose strap was rubbing against the driveshaft, causing the grinding sound. The welded bracket will need to be repaired or replaced and re-welded to the frame to secure the fuel tank strap properly.

Happen to notice something hanging under my truck while in a parking lot. Looked under and the front of my fuel tank was almost touching the ground. After further inspection the front strap had pulled out of the frame that was suppose to be holding it. The frame was completely rusted out and can no longer hold the fuel tank strap. I never received a letter regarding the extended warranty so was unaware of that this issues could occur. Now not covered because the extended warranty expired 20 days ago. First time while owning any vehicle where I though the vehicle was putting me in danger because of a failed component. This should be a safety recall not a extended warranty. I had over 22 gallons of fuel in the tank when it failed.

Went to drive my truck to the store this morning and heard metal scraping against pavement. I immediately pulled over and looked under truck and noticed my fuel tank was hanging down and the front bracket came undone. Luckily was only a couple blocks from the house slowly drove back home so I could more in depth diagnose the issue. I noticed the strap to hold fuel tank up seemed fine but the bracket it sits in, in the frame rusted out causing the strap to come out and the tank to drop. Now no options to fix and without a vehicle until I can get it figured out… I did some research and noticed that there was a recall for this and the year of my truck was included so typed my vin on NHTSA and showed my truck has 0 unrepaired recalls but this is a recall and unsafe if I would not have noticed so soon could have been very bad.

GAS TANK STRAP IS NOT CONNECTED I SEE A RECALL ON THE YEAR OF MY TRUCK BUT WHEN I LOOK UP MY VIN # IT DONT SHOW MY TRUCK HAVING THE PROBLEM BUT IT SAYS IN THE RECALL MY TRUCK ON IT WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THAT
Vehicle i cranks but doesn't always start. I did notice even after it started it seemed to run normally .But when I turn the key off I can still hear fuel pump running. It never shut off. I had to pull the relay fuse. After doing some research. I found that there was or is a safety recall on the fuel pump relay on other Chrysler vehicles having the same issue .Safety recall P54/NHTSA 14V-530. The vehicles that were recalled uses the same tipm as my vehicle. Just wanting to know if you can tell me if my vehicle falls under the same recall if so how can I get it repaired. And if it doesn't fall under the same recall why not. It doesn't seem to be very safe for a fuel pump to be running constantly. I do not have the best of hearing. My wife was the one that noticed that it was still running.
In having my vehicle serviced, my mechanic noticed that one of the straps on my gas tank was corroded and needed to be replaced. He advised me that a safety recall was issued (TSB- 14-002-18) covering this issue. I was never issued a recall notice. I contacted the RAM recall # to raise the issue. I was told by 2 separate agents that the recall was VIN specific and that my RAM was not part of the recall. The vehicle was purchased and registered in CT as new in early 2013. I have been the owner since. When I questioned why the same model having the same issue would not be covered, I was told that is not covered since it was inspected when manufactured. This makes no sense since the issue and notice of recall happened years later. I was told I need to remediate this safety issue at my own expense. Again....this is totally unsatisfactory.
Gas tank strap pulled through where it is mounted.

The component affected on my 2012 dodge ram is the front fuel tank strap frame "T slot" bracket that has corroded with water mix with road salt, making the fuel tank to dangle and possibly causing it to drop and make contact with the ground. I know other ram truck have this recall but unfortunately this recall doesn't show up on my vin. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer but unfortunately they cant not fix it unless the recall shows on my vin or i pay out of pocket.

What happened to my 2012 1500 Dodge Ram Pickup truck is exactly what is stated in the U04 Ram recall. This makes me wonder why am I not also listed in the recall. While driving to work I felt a big jolt in the car. I thought initially it was something with the brakes but everything seem ok with the brakes and since I was only a block away from work I kept going and park in my assigned parking lot. Only after work did I notice what had happened. The gas tank towards the front of the car had dropped as the strap had detached. I used the tire jack to push the tank back up and then tied rope around the gas tank to hold it in place. I then drove the truck to the local Tire Discounters who said they could fix the Gas tank strap. Only the next day did I learn that they couldn't do that type of repair because where the strap needed to attach on the frame was completely corroded. Thank God the other strap had not come undone too.
I took my vehicle in for an oil drip and the mechanic tells me that I have a strap broken and hanging down on my fuel tank. He tells me there is a recall for it. I called the dealership and they tell me there is a recall for some trucks with the same year, make and model but mine is not one of them. I don't understand why my truck is not covered under this recall when it happened to my truck. Safety recall U04/NHTSA18V-160 Frame bracket.
I was driving on the expressway and my gas tank dropped in the front, causing the front strap to make contact with my drive shaft. The front of the fuel tank was hanging one inch from the cement. I had to pull to the side of the roadway and have someone bring me a "tie down ratchet strap" to hold the tank in place so I could get off the side of the expressway. Upon inspection the strap "T" end appeared to be fine, but the part on the frame that holds it was totally rotted. My Truck had 58,982 miles on it when this happened. My truck is in excellent condition otherwise. * I had received a recall notice years ago for this issue and then I got a letter a few weeks later from FCA telling me to disregard the notice that my vehicle was not affected. I guess they were wrong!

DEALER TECH CHECKED AND SAID THERE WAS A SMALL EVAPORATION LEAK BUT THE GAS CAP SEEMED TO BE SEALING OK. DEALER TECH RESET THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT. WEEK LATER LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I BOUGHT A NEW GAS CAP AND REPLACED OLD ONE. RESET THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT. MESSAGE NOW BACK AND I GET NO RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER OR CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SUPPORT. IF THIS IS AN EVAPORATION LEAK IN THIS FUEL SYSTEM I WOULD BELIEVE THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENT ISSUE. HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS RECALL PERFORMED AND FACE THE SAME ISSUE?
FUEL PUMP FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED A BAD FUEL PUMP RELAY ON THE TIPM. I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS WITH SAME ISSUE HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT THE RAM TRUCKS WITH THE IDENTICAL PART AND PROBLEM HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. FAILURE OF FUEL PUMP WHILE DRIVING COULD CAUSE VEHICLE TO STALL WITH POSSIBILITY OF CRASH CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH. SO FAR THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN STARTING BUT I HAVE READ ON FORUMS OF FAILURE DURING DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V160000 (FUEL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NAPLETON ELLWOOD CITY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1000 LAWRENCE AVE, ELLWOOD CITY, PA 16117) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,652. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
FRONT GAS TANK STRAP PULLED OUT OF FRAME OF TRUCK, GAS TANK WAS HANGING ABOUT 3 INCHES FROM GROUND AND GRINDING AGAINST DRIVE SHAFT , STRAP CRADLE THAT WAS ATTACHED TO FRAME WAS TOTALLY ROTTED AWAY, TRUCK HAS 46,000 WELL MAINTAINED MILES AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION , WHEN I RETURNED TO DEALER ON 1/30/2018 WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2012 THEY INFORMED ME FRAME IS ROTTED AND NOT REPAIRABLE, THEY APOLOGIZED AND TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME IN ANY WAY . DESPERATE FOR HELP I WENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND I LEARNED THE FRAME WAS NOT ROTTED BUT THE BRACKET ON THE FRAME HAD ROTTED AWAY. THIS MECHANIC WELDED EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND I PAID HIM $400 OUT OF MY POCKET, AFTER READING SOME DODGE RAM FORUMS I LEARNED I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, LUCKILY FOR ME NOTHING BAD HAPPENED I WAS ONLY GOING 20 MPH ON A LOCAL ROAD , GAS TANK HAD JUST BEEN FILLED AND HOLDS 32 GALLONS OF FUEL , JUST THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT THIS SO IT DOES NOT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE WITH A WORSE OUTCOMES,
FUEL PUMP RELAY IN THE TIPPIN WENT OUT. STATIONARY AS WOULD NOT START. TOOK TO SHOP, SHOP OWNER SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS IN OTHER DODGE RAMS(RECENTLY AS TWO WEEKS BEFORE WE BROUGHT OURS IN), WAS TOLD THAT SEVERAL MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM(DODGE CARAVAN, JEEP CHEROKEE, AND THE DODGE DURANGO) BUT THE DODGE RAM IS NOT INCLUDED. HE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE USING THE FIX THAT WAS USED ON ALL THE OTHER RECALLED VEHICLES. GAVE US INFO ON WHERE HE FOUND THE FIX WHICH IN TURN OPENED OUR EYES THAT HEY THERE OR LOTS OF THESE FAULTY FUEL PUMP RELAYS OUT THERE. WENT TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE MY HUSBAND WAS TOLD, YES THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS AS WELL AND TO SAVE OUR RECEIPTS JUST IN CASE IT WAS ADDED BUT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AT THIS TIME AND THERE WERE NO PLANS THAT THEY NEW OF FOR IT TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. TALKED TO CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT THE ONES WHO ADDS CARS TO THE RECALL THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR US EITHER. CBWPR091AA WAS THE REPLACEMENT NUMBER FOR THE PART GIVEN TO THE SHOP OWNER FROM MOPAR. JUST WANTED TO PASS THIS ALONG SINCE SEVERAL OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS SAME RECALL AND WE LIVE IN A CITY OF AROUND 10,000 SO IF SEVERAL PEOPLE IN OUR CITY HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR DODGE RAMS, THEN SURELY THERE AT TONS MORE OUT THERE. THANK YOU
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS CONSTANTLY BREAK. THIS CAUSES EXHAUST LEAK AT THE CYLINDER HEADS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAVE HAD THIS REPAIRED TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR AND THE PROBLEM IS THERE AGAIN.
TOOK MY TRUCK TO GET INSPECTION AND IT DIDN'T PASS BECAUSE OF CODE P0456 : EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED WHY?
THIS VEHICLE WITH A 36 GALLON GAS TANK MAKES A THUMP NOISE A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPS WHEN THE TANK IS BETWEEN APPROXIMATELY 1/4 AND 3/4 FULL. WHEN FILLED THE NOISE STOPS OR WHEN GAS IS BELOW 1/4. THE DEALER CHANGED A PART IN THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN AS THAT WAS THEIR DIAGNOSIS AND SAID A PART WAS FOUND WORN BUT THE NOISE STILL EXISTS AND IS COMMONLY FOUND ON THE INTERNET RAM FORUMS FOR THESE VEHICLES WITH THIS SIZE GAS TANK.
