DODGE RAM EXHUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN AND NOW ITS COSTING ME ALMOST $3000 DOLLARS TO GET FIXED WHEN DODGE SHOULD OF KNOWN THAT YOU CAN NOT PUT STEEL AND ALUMINUM TOGETHER
Exhaust manifold bolts breaking and leaking due to exhaust manifold is warping under high heat. Company will not repair this problem. As it is a recurring issue known as the hemi tick. With exhaust gas leaking at the manifold causing carbon monoxide to enter cab or vehicle. Before exiting the rear of the vehicle as designed.
There was complete Cam and Lifter failure and it can be inspected. I was driving on the freeway and suddenly all power was lost and the truck started shaking. Once we got off the freeway, the truck started shaking horribly when we hit 3k RPM. We became an obstruction in the road and driving was dangerous. It is reproduced and confirmed by the dealer. It has been inspected. The check engine went on the same time the truck started shaking.
The camshaft has balded on one of the cylinders. I first said I had a check engine light with a P0303 code. I replaced the spark plugs, the ignition coils, the fuel injector, and even the PCM. None of that fixed it. I was driving on the freeway when it started flashing the check engine light and the car lost all power so the RPMs don't like to go over 3k. The check engine light still flashes like crazy every time I turn it on and even touch the gas. I checked the vacuum lines and sensors and air lines. They are all perfect. Then I checked the compression and it is less than half of what it is supposed to be on just one cylinder. I looked at the camshaft and found that it was bald and not creating compression that way. I did some research on some forums and found this is really common for this year of Ram. This made it undrivable and unsafe without power. engine ticking,lifter and cam failure had it checked, engine stalled while driving in traffic almost had an accident,they used defective parts and fiat knew this and did nothing about it,this is a common problem in all these engines from 2009 to 2014
I was driving at highway speed. The vehicle suddenly lost power and began to shutter. It was difficult to control and the vehicle behind me had to swerve to the inside lane to avoid a rear end collision. Upon receipt and diagnosis from Olathe DCJ, they indicated there is a misfire in cylinder 5. Through a Google review, I discovered this is very common know issue. It costs anywhere from $3500-$15000 to resolve let alone the risk to life. In discussion with my service advisor (Mike), they perform this repair a couple of times a month. This is in one location in the Kansas City area. I can only imagine how widespread this issue is.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact initially received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V635000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Fuel System, Diesel). The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the recall was serviced. Recently, the contact stated that he noticed a fuel leak coming from the fuel heater. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was discovered that a plug on the connector had melted due to a defective O-ring. The mechanic linked the failure to the recall. The dealer was contacted by both the mechanic and the contact and both were informed that the recall was a one-time free repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, he heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle began to shake forcefully. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated a week after the incident happened. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the camshaft and lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact called and made the local dealer aware of the failure. The contact was unable to reach a representative with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 145,600.
Engine is giving a code that a lifter is bad. With only 170000 miles this should never be a problem unless there is a defect with the parts used to make the engine.
The lifters are knocking and there's a tick in the engine. I've done some research and there's a whole forum regarding complaints for the Hemi's 5.7L engines in this specific year of my vehicle and other FCA vehicles, stating the notorious "Hemi tick" and the lifters going bad. Yes my vehicle is available for inspection because I can't afford the amount shops are trying to charge. If multiple vehicle's, made by FCA with the Hemi engine for models 2011, are having the same issue I would think it had to do with a manufacturing defect. The vehicle has caused a major vibration and jerking when I try to drive which could in turn cause me to wreck! My vehicle has been inspected at a shop. My check engine light is on and came on after hearing the tick in the engine for awhile previous to the light coming on. The lifters knocking started about a month ago.
TRUCK WAS DRIVING NORMALLY UNTIL GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY. AS TRUCK WAS DRIVING ON THE ON RAMP TO HIGHWAY AND TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC IT HIT 60MPH AND STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND ENGINE BOGGED DOWN, SLOWING THE TRUCK DOWN TO UNDER 60 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FLASHING. SLOWED DOWN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND TRUCK DROVE FIND. AFTER PULLING OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD ENGINE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. NO ISSUES. ATTEMPTED TO MERGE BACK INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC BUT AGAIN TRUCK SHOOK AND BOGGED DOWN ONCE REACHING 55MPH. TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP AND PLUGS AND COIL PACK WERE REPLACED. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WAS CHECKED AND IT WAS NOT PLUGGED AND FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS WAS ANOTHER RAM WITH A BAD LIFTER THAT CAUSE THE CAM SHAFT TO WEAR OUT. ENGINE WAS REPLACED. AFTER ENGINE WAS REPLACED THIS LED TO ISSUES WITH THE SEAL BETWEEN THE OIL PAN SEAL AND THE ENGINE. THE SEAL FAILED AND WAS LEAKING OIL. TOOK RIGHT BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY NOW HAVE HAD TO PUT TWO OIL SEALS ON. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AS THIS IS THE 4TH RAM I'VE HEARD OF LISTED IN THE LAST MONTH WITH THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE SIMILAR ISSUES NOTED RECENTLY ON THIS WEBSITE.
TRUCK HAS A HARD TIME STARTING FIRST TIME OF THE DAY AFTER THAT IT IS OK
I WAS OPERATING MY VEHICLE WHEN IT PRESENTED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I UTILIZED A CODE READER TO DETERMINE IT WAS A CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE CODE. THE CODE DISAPPEARED AFTER ROUGHLY 30 SECONDS. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE TRUCK STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FROM THE MIDDLE LANE, ALMOST CAUSING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS AS MY SPEED RAPIDLY DECREASED. THE SHAKING CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER TWO MINUTES AFTER WHICH IT STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME BY TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND KEEPING THE ENGINE SPEED UNDER 3000 RPM. THE ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILING CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS CAUSING A MISFIRE AND THE LOSS OF POWER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AND I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF THE MISFIRE OCCURRING AGAIN AND ME LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE CODE WAS A P305 WHICH IS AN ENGINE MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 5. WE HAD THE TRUCK LOOKED AT AND THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED THEN THE COIL PACKS NONE OF WHICH FIXED THE TRUCK. FINALLY THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE LIFTERS IN THE MOTOR FAILED WHICH DAMAGED THE CAM SHAFT. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE MOTOR IN THE TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN SAID THAT THE PART WAS FAULTY AND DODGE CONTINUED TO USE THEM IN THE ENGINES.
WHEN I TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF AND TOOK THE KEY OUT THE FUEL PUMP CONTINUED TO RUN FOR HOURS BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IS BAD. THIS TRUCK DOESN'T HAVE AN EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY LIKE MOST VEHICLES DO. BY HAVING A BAD INTERNAL RELAY IT CAN CAUSE GAS TO CONTINUE TO PUMP IN AN ACCIDENT AND IF THERE IS A FIRE THE FUEL WILL CONTINUE TO PUMP AND NOT SHUT OFF. ALSO BY THIS FUEL RELAY NOT SHUTTING OFF THE FUEL PUMP IT DRAINS MY BATTERY AND IT WILL BURN OUT THE FUEL PUMP.. THE BIGGEST CONCERN BY NOT HAVING AN EXTERNAL FUEL RELAY WHERE A PERSON CAN CHANGE IT IS THAT WHEN IT DON'T SHUT OFF AS YOUR DRIVING AND GET I AN ACCIDENT WHERE FIRE OR HEAT IS INVOLVED THIS COULD CAUSE AN EXPLOSION INJURY OR EVEN DEATH, BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS RELAY IS BAD AND CAN'T CHANGE IT WITHOUT CHANGING THE WHOLE FUSE BOX OR GETTING THE FUSE BOX REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I PARKED THE CAR AND REMOVED KEY AND LEFT IT FOR 8 HOURS WHILE I WAS AT WORK. I CAME OUT TO A DEAD BATTERY, AFTER HOOKING UP JUMPER CABLES I COULD HEAR A HUMMING SOUND, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE THE FUEL PUMP CONTINUING TO PUMP GAS EVEN THOUGH KEY WAS OUT AND TRUCK WAS TURNED OFF... I KNOW DODGE RECALLED OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM.

OVER TIME, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WAS A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER #8. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, THE LIFTERS AND POSSIBLY THE CAMSHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO NHTSA AND WAS OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 155,000.
BACK IN AUGUST OF 2019 I BOUGHT MY CAR TO THE BROWNS 112 DEALERSHIP AND GOT WORK DONE TO PUT IN A NEW ENGINE IN THE CAR THIS WORK TOOK OVER 4 MONTHS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NEVER OFF THE CAR NOW A YEAR LATER ALMOST AND THE CAR IS GIVIN ME THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE SHAKING AND NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT 27,000 ON THE NEW ENGINE THE PROBLEM IS MINE AND THAT I WRECK THE CAR WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW I DID THIS

RESET CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. DROVE 12 MILES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. RETURNED TO DEALER. MECHANIC STATED IT WAS WORN CAM. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR IS 4500-5000. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 140,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN EXTRA CARE WITH THIS VEHICLE. I'M RETIRED AND I PLANNED ON THIS BEING MY LAST TRUCK. UPON INVESTIGATION THERE ARE LITERALLY 10000'S OF THESE ENGINES BREAKING IN THIS MANNER. IT'S NOT ONLY TRUCKS BUT IN ALL OF THE VARIOUS CHRYSLER VEHICLES. THIS STARTED WITH THE FIRST MODEL 5.7 HEMI. THERE IS NO COMMENT OR HELP FROM CHRYSLER. THIS ENGINE FAILURE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY NHTSA. INDIVIDUALS HAVE LITTLE POWER TO DO ANYTHING WHICH IS WHY WE RELY ON GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS NHTSA TO MAKE OUR COLLECTIVE VOICES HEARD. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SLOWING DOWN HEADING TOWARDS A STOPLIGHT AND MY 2011 DODGE RAM STOPPED AT THE STOPLIGHT AND WOULD NOT TURN OVER IT WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT START. SO I HAD TO PUSH THE TRUCK INTO A PARKING LOT CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK AND FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. UPON LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE AND LEFT LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD I NOTICED COOLANT LEAKING BUT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVE 3 1/2 HOURS LATER I STARTED TALKING TO HIM AND TOGETHER HIS OPINION OF WHAT HAPPEN POSSIBLE TIMING OR HEAD GASKET BLOWN HEAD GASKET BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE THERE WAS NO LEAKAGE I STILL HAVE COMPRESSION SPARK AND FUEL COMING TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED ALL THE WAY BACK TO MY PROPERTY WHERE MY BROTHER-IN-LAW ASSISTED WHO HAS BEEN A MECHANIC FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS HAS STARTED GOING THROUGH IT WE HAVE NOTICED SOME SIMILAR RECALLS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUES WHICH WE BELIEVE THAT IS THE ISSUE BECAUSE WE DO HAVE COMPRESSION AND SPARK IGNITION AND FUEL IN THE VEHICLE. IF YOU CAN PLEASESHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS I WOULD REALLY ENJOY HEARING BACK SO I CAN FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE TRUCK AND MAY BE A POSSIBLE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.
COMING FOR THE SENIOR CENTER ON THE FREEWAY. MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & A BELL WAS RINGING. I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHT ON, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. EVERYONE AROUND ME HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND I'M IN TRAFFIC. THEY WILL RUN YOU OVER ON THE FREEWAY. BLOWING THERE HORN AND THEY CAN SEE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU TRUCK. THE TRUCK SLOW DOWN SO I KEEP GOING. WHEN I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY I WENT TO O'REILLY AUTO PART TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THEY PUT THE MACHINE ON IT AND SAID IT WAS A MISFIRE CODE 5 AND OTHER CODE ALSO. NOW TO FIND OUT THAT IT THE CAM/LIFTER THAT NEED FIXING. OVER $5,000.00 DOLLAR WORK FOR THIS TRUCK. I LOOK ON LINE TO SEE IF IT WAS A RECALLS FOR THIS AND FOUND OUT THAT ALMOST ALL THE DODGE RAM WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DOING. BOUGHT A USED 2011 RAM 1500 AND FOUND OUT SOME OF THE MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE WHEN STARTED UP NOTICED A TICK SOUND HAD CHECKED AND FOUND OUT THE HEMI IS NATORIOUS FOR THIS AND NO RECALL. BUT EXHAUST LEAKING OUT IS DANGEROUS AND FROM WHAT IV'E SEEN AND HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HEMI
VEHICLE SHAKES AND WILL LOSE ITS PULLING POWER TO WHERE ONE CAN ONLY GO AROUND 20 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAPPENED ON A BYPASS WHILE GOING 50ISH MPH. THE SUDDEN SLOWING ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK. ENGINE CODE PULLS UP AS MISFIRE. AFTER BOTH SPARK PLUGS AND ON-COIL PLUG WAS REPLACED VEHICLE DONE THE SAME THING. UPON INVESTIGATING CONDITIONS AND KNOCKING NOISE I DISCOVERED MANY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS DUE TO LIFTER SEIZING AND DIGGING INTO CAM SHAFT. THIS CAUSES THE CYLINDER TO NOT OPEN RIGHT MAKING FUEL AIR MIXTURE TO BE OFF. MANY FORUMS AND VIDEOS ONLINE BLAME BAD LIFTERS FROM FACTORY. HOWEVER I AM PERSONALLY UNCERTAIN OF THIS SO ISSUE IS UNKNOWN. REACHING OUT TO DODGE I GET A MESSAGE OF SORRY YOUR VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 70853 MILES ON IT BUT IS PAST FIVE YEARS OLD. OTHERS REPORTED ISSUE FROM 50-120K MILES IN THEIR CASES. I TRULLY DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE SINCE IT SEEMS FAIRLY COMMON AND PEOPLE ARE OUT 1000S OF DOLLARS BECAUSE OF IT.
HAS NUMBER 6 MISFIRE AND WAS DETERMINED AFTER ITEMS REPLACED IT IS A SEIZED LIFTER CAUSING THE ISSUE

MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE. THE CAM SHAFT LIFTERS FAIL, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CAM SHAFT. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THERE IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH THE MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF INSIDE THE ENGINE. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DODGE DEALER, HE ADVISED ME THAT HE DOES THESE REPAIRS ON A DAILY BASIS. IT IS A VERY COMMON AND WELL KNOWN ISSUE.
ROLLER BEARING ON LIFTER HAD FAILED REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL LIFTERS AND THE CAMSHAFT. THIS OCCURRED AT 91620 MILES IN SPITE OF A PERFECT SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE RECORD.
LIFTER FAILURE CAUSING DAMAGES TO THE CAMSHAFT AND ENGINE
CAM/LIFTER ISSUE WITH THE 01-11 DODGE RAM 1500! IT'S A FACTORY ENGINE PROBLEM THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX. IT'S BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE & YET IT'S STILL NOT A RECALL ON IT. TOOK GAS CAP OFF THEN REINSTALLED, FUEL GAGE WORKING, BUT CEL STILL ON.

ENGINE STARTED MISSING AND VIBRATING WHEN ACCELERATING, ENGINE TROUBLE CODE P0303 APPEARED. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND AFTER INSPECTING THEY DETERMINED IT TO BE THE CAMSHAFT. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. ALL SAID AND DONE THE TOTAL COST WAS $3129.00.

CAM SHAFT OIL CONTROL VALVE FRAGMENTED RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON IMMEDIATELY. DROVE DIRECTLY THE DEALER, ABOUT 2 MILES, TO HAVE CHECKED. THE ENGINE RAN POORLY WITH VERY LITTLE ACCELERATION. CAM CODE APPEARED. ONLY REPAIR WAS A $10,000.00 LONG BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT, BECAUSE REPAIR PARTS WERE ON 3 TO 6 MONTH BACK ORDER THROUGH THE DEALER. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW FROM THIS DEALER AND HAVE HAD ALL SERVICE, RECALL AND REPAIRS DONE AT THIS DEALER. I WAS NEVER INFORMED THAT THIS TYPE OF CATISTROPHIC FAILURE COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME DURING MY OWNERSHIP, EITHER BY THE DEALER OR CHRYSLER CORP. THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE INTERNAL PART THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, BEFORE THE PART FAILED FOR $700.00. CHRYSLER DID ASSIGN A CASE NUMBER AND A WORKER THAT WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE A "ONE TIME GOOD WILL" AMOUNT OF $3000.00 TOWARD THE REPAIRS. I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REMAINING $6797.00. THIS WAS A PREVENTABLE REPAIR AND I SHOULD NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE TYPE OF PROBLEM. THIS PART HAS MANY REFERENCES ON HE INTERNET.

MECHANIC RECOMMENDED REPLACE FUEL INJECTORS, STILL SHOWING PROBLEM, NOW HE SAYS IT IS THE CAM SHAFT AND LIFTER - HE TELLS ME THIS IS GOING TO COST AN ADDITIONAL $4000., AND THERE IS A BIG BACK ORDER OF THESE PARTS FROM DODGE AND IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST 3 MONTHS. NOW DOING RESEARCH I DISCOVER THIS IS HAPPENING TO SCORES OF PEOPLE - WHERE IS THE RECALL???
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. UPON DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, THE MECHANIC SAID I HAVE A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER #2. TESTED ALL PLUGS AND COIL PACKS. THEY CHECK GOOD. MECHANIC STATED IT'S A CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS THAT FAILED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND 1000'S OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ON THIS ENGINE.
OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING - ENGINE CODE FLASHED ON DASHPANEL - DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT ONE OF THE HYDRAULIC LIFTERS ON CYLINDER #8 SEIZED, WHICH THEN CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE LOBE ON THE CAM. CHRYSLER ENGINEERS AND TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. EVERY TESTING SPECIFICATION FOR THE MOTOR COMES BACK AS WITHIN ENGINEERING SPECS... THE ONLY SUGGESTION THAT CHRYSLER HAS AT THIS POINT (WHICH IS AFTER $4800 IN REPAIRS, AND AN ADDITIONAL 57 HOURS OF DIAGNOSTICS) IS TO REPLACE THE MOTOR...?? WHY? THE ENGINE TESTS ARE ALL WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS...
AT 158256 MILES 5.7 HEMI DEVELOPED A MISS FIRE WHILE GOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. PROBLEM WAS FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY A FAILED LIFTER WHICH REQUIRED MAJOR REPAIR AND COST, CYLINDER HEAD LIFTERS,CAMSHAFT AND ASSOCIATED PARTS NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $6000.00. AFTER SEEING MULTIPLE REPORTS FROM OTHER OWNERS FOR THE SAME ISSUE I BELIEVE THIS SHOWS POOR QUALITY IN THIS 5.7 HEMI. DODGE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO COMPENSATE AFFECTED OWNERS WHO HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FIX THIS COSTLY ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO STILL EXISTING LOAN RESPONSIBILITIES. THIS ISSUE INSTANTLY PUTS AN OWNER IN A UPSIDE DOWN POSITION OWNING THE VEHICLE.

AT 140000 MILES TRUCK KICK CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD IT CHECKED BY MECHANIC CODE P0301 SHOWED CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE. DID TROUBLE SHOOTING, CHANGING PLUGS, COIL PACK, INJECTOR CLEANER, AND AIR INTAKE SENSOR. NOTHING WORKED. DID COMPRESSION CHECK AND FOUND CYLINDER 1 HAS LOST COMPRESSION. MAYBE BROKEN VALVE SPRING, WHEN TRIED TO REPLACE FOUND VALVE WAS BARELY MOVING. PLUS HAD A LIFTER TAPPING NOISE. COST FOR REPAIRS WILL BE OVER $4000. FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THIS YEAR TRUCK WITH THE 5 7 HEMI.

UPON REMOVAL OF THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD IT WAS NOTED THAT THE LIFTERS AND CAM SHAFT WAS DAMAGED. ALL LIFTERS AND CAM SHAFT WAS REPLACED WITH MOPAR PARTS. P0305 CODE RE-OCCURED WITHIN 4 WEEKS OF REPAIR.

MY TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAS BEEN FAITHFULLY SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. IT HAS 130K HIGHWAY MILES. DRIVING AWAY FROM DEALERSHIP AFTER ROUTINE OIL & LUBE, I NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY AT A NEARBY STOP LIGHT. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CEL ILLUMINATED. ON 19 JUL 2018 I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE INVOICE/ SERVICE SUMMARY STATES:"CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. TEST AND FOUND CYLINDER #3 MISFIRE. SWAP SPARK PLUG, AND COIL. STILL HAS #3 MISFIRE. CAN HEAR POSSABLE LIFTER NOISE. WILL NEED TO TAKE APART ENGINE TO TEST." THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME CAM SHAFT LIFTER WEAR IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 5.7 LITER HEMIS. HE SAID THEY'VE HAD SEVERAL CASES AT THAT DEALERSHIP, AND THERE WERE 70,000 PARTS ON BACK ORDER NATION WIDE RELATED TO THE PROBLEM. HE ALSO TOLD ME THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR WOULD BE $3,500 - $4,000. THE INVOICE TO CHECK THE CEL WAS $122.91. I WAS TOLD IT SHOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE. INTERNET SEARCH OF THIS PROBLEM CONFIRMS IT IS WIDESPREAD. MY ENGINE NOW SPUTTERS AND SHUDDERS WHEN UNDER PRESSURE/ ACCELERATION. CEL HAS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. I'M STUCK: CAN'T GET PARTS TO REPAIR, CAN'T SELL/ TRADE IT WITH THIS ISSUE, GROWING MORE CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT. HELP PLEASE.
DODGE RAM 1500 2011. CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE. WHENEVER I WOULD GO OVER 2K RPMS OR 70MPH THE TRUCK WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER AND RESTART MY VEHICLE FOR THE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY. ON 2 LANE ROADS I WOULD OFTEN HOLD UP TRAFFIC BECAUSE I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. MANY TIMES, THIS PROBLEM MADE IT UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE. WHEN I WAS GOING 65MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY TRUCK WOULD START TO SHAKE AND SLOW DOWN TO 30 MPH I WAS ALMOST HIT A NUMBER OF TIMES. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHERE THEY CHANGED THE SPARK PLUG AND COIL WITH NO FIX. TOOK IT TO A MOPAR SHOP WHERE THEY ALSO CHANGED THE COIL. THIS RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 10 MILES THEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. I TOOK IT BACK TO MOPAR WHERE THEY WENT MORE IN DEPTH AND FOUND THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LIFTER/ROLLER AND CAM. THE LIFTER GOT STUCK AND MADE A GROVE IN THE CAM. I COULD REPLACE THEM FOR 4.5K OR REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR 8K. WITH ALL THE METAL FLOATING IN MY ENGINE FROM THE CAM, I AM GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THIS IS ABSURD FOR RAM TO HAVE NOT COMMENTED ON THIS PROBLEM OR FINE A RECALL. THEY ARE AFRAID THEY WILL LOSE MONEY AND LOSE INVESTORS BECAUSE THIS FIX IS NOT CHEAP. IT IS RIDICULOUS FOR A "REPUTABLE" TRUCK LIKE RAM TO HAVE THIS ISSUE AND NOT GIVE A SOLUTION.

WHEN THE LIFTER FAILS, IT IS KNOWN TO BORE INTO THE CAMSHAFT, CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE. THE REPAIR COSTS AN AVERAGE OF $3200 WITH SOME GOING UP TO $4,000. CHYSLER MECHANICS KNOW THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO DO RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS.

WHILE TRAVELING ON A MAJOR PAVED ROADWAY I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE UP A LARGE HILL. ONCE MY VEHICLE CRESTED THE HILL, MY VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING CONSIDERABLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AND USING A SCAN TOOL WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THERE WAS A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER #2. DUE TO THE VEHICLES MILEAGE I CHOSE TO REPLACE ALL THE SPARK PLUGS. AFTER DOING SO I CLEARED THE PREVIOUS LISTED CODE AND DROVE THE TRUCK DOWN THE ROAD. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I AGAIN DROVE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE AND AFTER SCANNING FOR CODES LEARNED THE CYLINDER 2 WAS STILL MISFIRING. I THEN PURCHASED A NEW COIL THINKING THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. I AGAIN CLEARED THE CODE AND DROVE MY VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD. NO SUCH LUCK. I THEN PULLED THE VALVE COVER OVER THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER AND LEARNED THAT THE ROCKER ARM DID NOT HAVE THE SAME RANGE OF MOTION WHEN I TURNED THE MOTOR OVER AS THE OTHER ROCKERS DID. CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE'S MANY MORE WHO ARE HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS. STILL OWE $20,000 ON TRUCK. DODGE SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THIS. THE VEHICLE WOULD JOLT AT LOW RPM'S WHICH IS A COMMON SYMPTOM OF A MISFIRE AND/OR LOW COMPRESSION IN ONE OR MORE CYLINDERS. AFTER EXPENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES HAD BEEN ADMINISTERED, THE MECHANICS FOUND THAT ONE OF THE LIFTER ARMS HAD SEIZED. THE SEIZED LIFTER ARM CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OF THE ENGINE INCLUDING THE CAMSHAFT LOBE ON CYLINDER 2, AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE, I FOUND THAT LIFTERS FAILING CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CAMSHAFT IS A COMMON ISSUE ONLY ON THE 2011 RAM 1500 TRUCKS. MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE ON 2011 RAM 1500 TRUCKS, AND EACH ONE HAS HAD A LIFTER SEIZURE CAUSE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE CAMSHAFT. AT THIS POINT, MY ONLY OPTION IS TO REPLACE ALL THE LIFTERS, VALVE SPRINGS, CAMSHAFT, AND HAVE EACH HEADER INSPECTED TO ENSURE NO FURTHER DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED. IN TOTAL THIS WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $2000 TO $3000 OUT OF POCKET FOR PARTS AND MECHANICAL SERVICES. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR A LIFTER TO SEIZE ON A TRUCK WITH 70,000 MILES THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED REGULARLY. IN ADDITION, THERE IS NO REASON FOR MORE THAN 50 OWNERS OF THE SAME TRUCK TO HAVE THIS EXACT PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS KIND OF ISSUE TO REPLACE BAD LIFTERS WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CAMSHAFT AT FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE. I CANNOT FULLY EXPRESS MY DISAPPOINTMENT AND FRUSTRATION IN DODGE AS A COMPANY FOR IGNORING THE COMPLAINTS OF THEIR HARDWORKING CUSTOMERS. THE ONLY OPTION I SEE IS A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION REGARDING A BAD BATCH OF LIFTERS IN 2011 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCKS, AND A REFUND/COMPENSATION TO THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR LOSSES THEY MAY HAVE HAD WHEN REPLACING LIFTERS, CAMSHAFTS, ETC.

THE FAILURE I EXPERIENCED IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS WHAT HAPPENS IN THE CARS. I WAS DOING HIGHWAY SPEED IN FUEL SAVING MODE AND WHEN THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY KICKS INTO 8 CYLINDER MODE THE TIMING CHAIN BRAKES. MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER TELLS ME THE ENGINE IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL BECAUSE ITS IN A TRUCK NOT A CAR. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN JEFFERSON WISCONSIN WHO CHECKED FOR CODES AND FOUND NOTHING STORED IN THE COMPUTER.

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V475000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V530000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,885. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT POSTED HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN MY ENGINE SUDDENLY FAILED AND LOST ALL POWER. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE OF INTERSTATE WITHOUT INCIDENT WHERE I CALLED A TOWING COMPANY TO BE PICKED UP. MY TRUCK HAS 130,000 MILES ON IT BUT HAS NEVER SHOWN ANY SIGN OF A PROBLEM. THE TRUCK WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT 5000 MILE INTERVALS. MAJORITY OF MILEAGE WERE HIGHWAY MILES BETWEEN 70 - 75 MPH. NORMALLY, I WOULD CHALK THIS UP TO HIGH MILEAGE. HOWEVER, DURING THE SEARCH FOR ANY PROBLEMS WITH A 5.7 L HEMI ENGINE, I NOTICED THE FOLLOWING RECALL AND WAS CURIOS AS TO WHY MY RAM 1500 WAS NOT INCLUDED: THIS RECALL COVERS A SPECIFIC BUILD PERIOD. THE VEHICLES INVOLVED ARE 20092012 DODGE CHALLENGERS (LC), DODGE CHARGERS (LD) AND CHRYSLER 300S (LX) EQUIPPED WITH A 5.7L HEMI ENGINE (SALES CODE EZD OR EZH, WHICH ARE THE MDS ENGINES) AND REAR AXLE RATIOS OF 3.06, 3.73 OR 3.92 (SALES CODE DMP, DME OR DMH). THE BUILD PERIOD IS FROM AUGUST 4, 2008, THROUGH JULY 10, 2012 (MDH 080406 THROUGH 071008). THE RECALL IS TITLED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION P01 ENGINE TIMING CHAIN AND CHAIN GUIDE AND IS DATED FEBRUARY 2014. SINCE THE ENGINES ARE NEARLY IDENTICAL, THERE IS NO REASON THAT MY TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. THE TIMING CHAIN FAILURE IN MY 2011 RAM 1500 SLT 4X4 CREWCAB CAUSED CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE ENGINE TO THE POINT WHERE IT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW AND WAS EXPECTED TO LAST MUCH LONGER THAN IT DID. I AM VERY LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET SAFELY OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH ONE OF THE MANY TRACTOR AND TRAILERS OR WASHINGTON DC COMMUTERS. THERE IS NO SUFFICIENT REASON FOR THE METAL TIMING CHAIN FAILURE OTHER THAN A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED IN OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE BY THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION.
VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE EXITING THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE. TIMING CHAIN BROKE DUE TO A FAILURE OF A PLASTIC CHAIN GUIDE CAUSING BENT VALVES AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING IN 30 BELOW 0 FAHRENHEIT WEATHER THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE THE TRUCK WAS IN MOTION AT 55 MPH. THERE WAS NO POWER AND ONCE I STOPPED THE VEHICLE I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND NOW THE TRUCK IS REFUSING TO START OR EVEN POWER ON. THE KEY FOB WILL NOT START (MANUALLY OR BY THE BUTTON), UNLOCK, LOCK OR ACTIVATE THE PANIC SYSTEM. *TR

I WAS CHANGING MY SPARK PLUGS(UPPER BANK).1 OF THE BOOTS (THAT IS BETWEEN THE COIL & PLUG) PULLED LOOSE & STAYED ON THE SPARK PLUG.HAD TO DIG IT OUT IN PIECES.(THE BOOT WAS FLUSHED TO THE SPARK PLUG)NO AUTO PARTS STORES WITHIN 20 MILES EVEN STOCKED THE BOOT.WENT TO & CALLED SEVERAL DODGE DEALERS.THEY ONLY SELL THE BOOT WITH THE COIL(NOT JUST THE BOOT) $65.00.THIS IS TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR & UNACCEPTABLE. I STAYED AWAY FROM DODGES FOR YEARS BECAUSE OF THEIR BAD PRODUCTS.SEEMS NOTHING HAS CHANGED.VERY DISAPPOINTED. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE TRUCK STALLED OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I GOT IT RESTARTED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS BUT THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO STALL UPON PUTTING IT IN GEAR. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND RENT A CAR FROM HERTZ. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE TRUCK NOW FOR 4 DAYS AND STILL CAN NOT TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THAT I DRIVE 3-4 TIMES A WEEK,WITHOUT WARNING THE TRUCK SHOOK VERY VIOLENTLY. COULD NOT KEEP IN MY LANE,IT SHOOK UNTIL I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I INSPECTED WHEELS AND RELATED PARTS COULD FIND NO ISSUES. I CARRY A WHEELCHAIR WITH ME AS I HAVE BROKEN MY NECK IN 8 PLACES WITH NERVE DAMAGE AND CAN NOT BE OPERATED ON, I CAN WALK FOR VERY SHORT DISTANCES ONLY. IF I HAD BEEN IN TRAFFIC I COULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND DUE TO MY PHYSICAL CONDITION COULD HAVE BEEN PARALYZED OR WORST. MY TRUCK COST $57,000 AND I HAVE ONLY MADE 5 PAYMENTS. I PURCHASED THIS UNIT BECAUSE IT RODE GOOD FOR MY CONDITION,PLUS COULD CARRY MY WHEELCHAIR. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I SPENT MONEY ON NEW BECAUSE I NEEDED DEPENDABILITY AS I CAN NOT WALK IF IT BREAKS. PLUS MUCH OF THE TIME MY PAIN LEVELS ARE VERY HIGH AND I JUST WANT TO GET TO MY DESTINATION OR HOME AS DRIVING CAUSES ME A LOT OF EXTRA PAIN. MY TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD OR ABUSED AS I AM 56 YEARS OLD AND TRY TO TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND SOME DEALERS WORK WITH THEM SOME DO NOT,BUT THE ONLY REPAIR IS BUYING AFTER MARKET PARTS.
