NISSAN IS RECALLING 225 MY 2009 ALTIMA VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 214, "SIDE IMPACT PROTECTION." THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION WELD ON THE DOOR ASSEMBLY.
Fix: ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIPS AND REMEDIED AT THE FACTORY. NO VEHICLES HAD BEEN RETAILED.

She also stated that a glare from the melted dashboard would reflect onto the windshield, obstructing her vision while driving. In addition, there was a glare in the front windshield that caused visibility issues while driving. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.
DASHBOARD IS MELTING. STICKY AND SHINY IN HOT SUN CAUSING SEVERE VISIBILITY PROBLEMS.
DOOR HANDLES ON CAR BREAK INTERNALLY PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING UNLOCKED OR OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. DEALER HAS REPLACED TWO AT MY EXPENSE AND NOW THE OTHER TWO ARE BROKEN WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. NO ABUSE OR ACCIDENT INVOLVED THEY JUST ALLL OF THE SUDDEN STOP WORKING. CONCERN IS IN AN EMERGENCY (FIRE, ACCIDENT, ETC..) PASSENGERS OR DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT CAR EASILY OR AT ALL IN A TIMELY BASIS, POSSIBLY CAUSING SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY LODGED A COMPLAINT BUT NOTHING MORE. I HAVE READ OF MULTIPLE INSTANCES ON THE INTERNET WITH NISSAN OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FIX IS VERY EXPENSIVE WHEN DONE AT THE DEALER AND I BELIVE A RECALL/REIMBURSEMENT IS DUE.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS STARTED TO PRODUCE A VERY SHINNY AND STICKY SUBSTANCE. THIS SUBSTANCE IS CREATING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD OF MY CAR WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THE STREET IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL METHODS TO REMOVE THIS SUBSTANCE WITHOUT SUCCESS. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS DUE TO HEAT AND HUMIDITY BUT MY CAR IS ALWAYS PARKED IN THE GARAGE WHEN I'M NOT OUT IN IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN 2017 WHERE NISSAN AGREED TO PAY ALL BUT $250 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE DASHBOARDS. IT WON'T START MOST OF THE TIME AND WHEN IT DOES IT'LL ONLY LET ME GET UP TO MAYBE 20MPH AND THAT'S IT
"TAKATA RECALL" ON MAY 14, 2019, I SPOKE WITH A NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE REGARDING MY DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD THAT IS MELTING AND HAS BECOME SHINY AND STICKY WITH A GLARE. IT IS DANGEROUS AS THE SILK SURFACE OF MY DASH GLARES ONTO MY WINDSHIELD AND TOTALLY OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW. THE REPRESENTATIVE INSTRUCTED ME TO GO TO MY NISSAN DEALER AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO GAVE ME A PIECE OF PAPER DESCRIBING THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD AND THE COST OF REPLACING IT. ON MAY 20, 2019, I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER NISSAN REPRESENTATION, WHERE I EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE A PIECE OF PAPER FROM NISSAN STATING THE PROBLEM WITH MY DASHBOARD AND WHAT IT WILL COST TO FIX IT. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE MY WARRANTY COVERAGE HAD EXPIRED, THERE IS NOTHING NISSAN CAN DO ABOUT MY DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. AS INDICATED ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL (NISSAN ALTIMA) CAR I HAVE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS THAT HAVE RESULTED FROM IT. I ALSO NOTICED THAT FLORIDA SUED NISSAN ON THIS SAME ISSUE AND WON. I'M DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN ISN'T OWNING UP TO ITS RESPONSIBILITY ON THIS ISSUE AND IS MAKING ME RESORT TO SENDING THIS LETTER FOR A RESOLUTION. I'M ASKING THAT NISSAN REPLACE THE DASHBOARD AT NO CHARGE AS THIS IS A DEFECT THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO CORRECT. PLEASE CALL ME AND LET ME KNOW WHEN I SHOULD BRING MY CAR IN FOR REPAIR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT VISIBLE DUE TO THE LIQUID REFLECTING THE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MANUFACTURER THAT NISSAN HAD NO OBLIGATION TO REPAIR THE DASHBOARD BECAUSE THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,000.

MELTING DASHBOARD CAUSES GLAZE ON WINDSHIELD. UNSAFE DRIVING UNDER HEAVY SUNSHINE.
WATER LEAKS INSIDE THE CAR EVERY TIME IT RAINS, WHEN IT'S STATIONARY. WATER IS ALL OVER THE FRONT FLOOR MATS AND BACK FLOOR MATS. FROM THE MOMENT I BOUGHT THE CAR, WATER GOT TRAPPED IN THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR. I HAD TO MANUALLY DRAIN THE WATER BY LIFTING THE RUBBER ON THE EDGES OF THE DOOR. CURRENTLY, THE WATER HAS MOVED INSIDE THE CAR. AS SAID ABOVE, ALL OVER THE CAR FLOOR. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN AND THEY DISCOVER THE THE BODY DRAINING HOSE CAME OFF, $500 LATER. THIS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, HOW CAN A DRAINAGE HOSE JUST COME OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WATER CAN CREATE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND PRESENT UNSAFE DRIVING.

NOW THE WHOLE TOP PART OF THE DASH BY THE FRONT WINDOW IS STICKY ,TACKY AND SLICK. VERY BAD GLARE IN THE WINDOW AND CANNOT DRIVE CAR IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT SAFELY. THOUGHT IT WAS THE HEAT BUT YOU CAN TOUCH THE DASH AT NIGHT, AT 40 DEGREES AND YOU WILL GET BLACK MARKS ON YOUR FINGER TIPS. SEVERAL REPORTS ON CAR FORUMS OF VEHICLES DOING THE SAME. I BEGAN TO NOTICE SOME STICKINESS ON MY DASHBOARD A FEW YEARS AGO. EVENTUALLY, SOME SECTIONS OF THE DASHBOARD MELTED SO MUCH THAT THEY BECAME WET AND SHINY. BECAUSE THE TEXTURE CHANGED, THE MELTED AREAS BEGAN TO CAUSE A GLARE ON THE GLASS OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE STRAIGHT OUT WHEN ANY LIGHT REFLECTED OFF OF THE DASHBOARD AND CAUSED THE GLARE. I AM AFRAID BECAUSE THE GLARE CAN EASILY BLOCK THE VISIBILITY OF SOMETHING IN THE ROAD OR SOMEONE AHEAD OF ME. I OFFICIALLY BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/17/13 EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAD BEGUN BEFORE THEN. ON THAT DATE, I WAS TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. OUT OF CURIOSITY, I ASKED THE GREETER AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD SEEN MANY OF THESE CASES BEFORE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. ONE OF THE ATTENDANTS TOOK PICTURES AND SUBMITTED IT TO THE COMPANY FOR APPROVAL TO COVER REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. HE LEFT ME A VOICE MESSAGE A WEEK LATER INDICATING IT WAS NOT APPROVED. A YEAR LATER, I SAW THIS SAME SITUATION COVERED BY THE NEWS (NBC 6) AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT THAT MANY OF US ARE BEING IMPACTED BY. THIS IS NOT "WEAR AND TEAR" BUT A POORLY MANUFACTURED PLASTIC DASHBOARD. I AM PUTTING IN THIS OFFICIAL COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IN FEBRUARY 2009 I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE PURCHASE WAS MADE AT MAROONE NISSAN (NOW AUTONATION) OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA. THE VEHICLE WAS A GIFT TO MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER. THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING CAUSING A DANGEROUS GLARE, AND MAKING IT HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE. THE ISSUE OF THE MELTING DASHBOARD STARTED IN ABOUT SEPTEMBER OF 2012 WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS AWAY AT COLLEGE. THE MELTING DASHBOARD CAUSED A SHINY GLARE IN THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. SHE PUT A BLANKET ON THE DASHBOARD SO SHE COULD SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD. IN AUGUST 2013 WHEN SHE WAS HOME FROM COLLEGE SHE BROUGHT THE MELTING DASHBOARD TO THE ATTENTION OF NISSAN AUTONATION IN PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA. THE VEHICLE HAD 25,390 MILES AT THAT TIME. WE HAVE AN INVOICE DOCUMENTING THIS COMPLAINT. MY DAUGHTER WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER TO CONTACT NISSAN DIRECTLY ABOUT THE ISSUE. BECAUSE SHE WAS UNCERTAIN WHAT TO DO AND WAS RETURNING TO COLLEGE, THE CONCERN WAS NOT ADDRESSED. ON JANUARY 18, 2014, AFTER SEEING HOW BAD THE DASHBOARD WAS MYSELF; I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO AUTONATION AND SPOKE WITH THE CUSTOMER CARE MANAGER. HE INDICATED THAT OUR DASHBOARD WAS THE WORST HE HAD EVER SEEN. HE GAVE US THE NUMBER TO CONTACT NISSAN DIRECTLY AND INITIATE A CASE. I MADE CONTACT WITH NISSAN BY CALLING 800-NISSAN-1 NUMBER AND INITIATED A CASE. UNFORTUNATELY, ON JANUARY 22, 2014, I RECEIVED AN UNFAVORABLE RESPONSE FROM NISSAN, WHO DENIED THE CLAIM, WITHOUT EVER HAVING SEEN THE VEHICLE OR ASKING FOR PHOTOS. I ASKED NISSAN WHAT APPEAL OPTIONS MIGHT BE AVAILABLE TO ME AND THE COMPANY INDICATED THERE WERE NONE. I FIND IT CHALLENGING TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES, PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE IS KNOWLEDGE THAT A WIDE-SPREAD SAFETY HAZARD EXISTS WITH A PARTICULAR MODEL. LAST SUMMER (2013), I NOTICED THAT MY DASHBOARD HAD STARTED TO HAVE THIS STICKY GLUEY SUBSTANCE ON IT. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT I HAD SPILLED SOMETHING ON THE DASHBOARD AND SO I STARTED TO CLEAN IT. I'VE USED BOTH CAR WIPES AND BOTH A DAMP TOWEL AND THE SUBSTANCE DOES NOT RUB OFF. RATHER, IT COLLECTED THE FIBERS FROM WHATEVER I'VE USED AND IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE (DUE TO THE HOUSTON HEAT OF THE SUMMER). I THEN CONCLUDED THAT THE DASHBOARD BECOMES STICKY BECAUSE IT IS MELTING. IT'S NOT SO MUCH THE MELTING DASHBOARD THAT GETS ME (EVEN THOUGH IT DOES DIMINISH THE VALUE OF THE CAR, IT'S ONLY A 2009), IT IS THE GLARE THAT THE MELTING DASHBOARD REFLECTS. THE DASHBOARD REFLECTS A POWERFUL GLARE IN MY FRONT VIEW WINDOW AND IT HAS BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. ELECTRICITY GOES THROUGH THE DOORS, BUT THE ACTUATORS ARE DYSFUNCTIONAL. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 41,000 MILES ON DATE OF PURCHASE, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF PREVIOUS OWNER LEFT DOORS OPEN OR WINDOWS WIND DOWN, AND IT CAUSED WATER DAMAGE. THE INSPECTION GIVEN BY THE DEALERSHIP IS ACTUALLY DECEPTIVE AS WELL, BECAUSE THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE FAILED INSPECTION. I CAN NOT DRIVE WITH THE DOORS LOCKED BECAUSE BASED ON THE FINDINGS AT THE NISSAN DEALER, THE DOORS MAY BECOME PERMANENTLY LOCKED DUE TO THE DAMAGES OF THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR AND LOCK ME INSIDE THE CAR. THE INSPECTOR SHOULD HAVE FAILED THE INSPECTION BASED ON THE DAMAGES OF THE VEHICLE. THE COST OF REPAIRS IS 965.00. *TR
I NOTICE A SHINE STARTED TO BUILD UP ON MY DASHBOARD. I THOUGHT THAT THE CAR WASH PLACE MIGHT HAVE USED TOO MUCH PRODUCT SO I STOPPED GOING TO THE CARWASH. I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO CLEAN IT OFF MYSELF AND WHEN I WENT TO CLEAN IT OFF I REALIZED THERE WAS A THICK FILM OF STICKY RESIDUE. AFTER A FEW MONTHS THE FILM KEPT GROWING TO THE POINT WHERE THE SHINE BECAME ALMOST GLASSY AND TOO REFLECTIVE. I REALIZED THE SUBSTANCE HAD BECOME A HAZARD TO MY SAFETY AND THOSE OF OTHERS, SO I PROCEEDED TO TRY A NUMBER OF PRODUCTS TO TRY AND REMOVE THE FILM. I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND PROCEEDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, WHERE I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM, BUT RATHER A FACTORY DEFECT THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED NOW WITH BOTH THIS AGENCY AND NISSAN ITSELF. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL OPEN AND CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY WITH MY KEY WHILE THE OTHER THREE DOORS ARE NONRESPONSIVE. I CONTACTED [XXX], A CAR SALES MAN AND WAS TOLD MY LOCKS WOULD BE FIXED ONCE THE LOCKS WERE ORDERED. THEY WOULD FIX MY TAIL LIGHT AND THE LOCKS. IN JANUARY, [XXX] ADVISED THAT THE LOCKS WERE ON BACK ORDER BUT SHOULD ARRIVE WITHIN ANOTHER TWO WEEKS AFTER THE CALL.I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP EVERY WEEK FOR A STATUS UPDATE ON THE LOCKS AND CONTINUED TO GET THE RUN AROUND. [XXX] STATED SOMEONE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CALL ME IN REGARDS TO THE LOCKS ON 2/13/14 AFTER STATING "HE WAS NO LONGER DEALING WITH THIS ANYMORE". NO ONE CALLED. LAST WEEK, 2/18-2/20 I WAS ADVISED BY [XXX] THAT THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP, [XXX], DECIDED TO NO LONGER FIX MY LOCKS. [XXX] STATED THAT THE LOCKS WERE ORDERED AND [XXX] RETURNED THE LOCKS TO THE WAREHOUSE STATING THAT HE WAS NO LONGER GOING TO REPAIR THE DOORS. MY FATHER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP ON 2/21/14 AND JOHN ADVISED THAT I GO TO MY LOCAL BEST BUY TO GET A REMOTE SENSOR. ON 2/22/14 I WAS TOLD BY A BEST BUY INSTALLER THAT THE SENSOR WOULD NOT FIX THE LOCKS BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. SINCE THE KEY OPENS ONE OF THE DOORS, THE INSTALLER STATED THAT THE REMOTE SENSOR IS NOT THE ISSUE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DOORS. FLAMES BEGIN TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT WE SPOKE TO THE FIRE MARSHALL ([XXX]) WHO STATED THE FIRE STARTED FROM MID ENGINE LINE. 11/29/11 I PURCHASED THE CARE ON 12/9/11 AFTER A HEAVY DOWN POUR OF RAIN I WENT TO GET IN THE CAR UPON CLOSING THE DOOR I HEARD WATER MOVING AROUND AS I DROVE IT BECAME CLEAR IT WAS WATER. EACH STOP THERE WAS A SOUND OF WATER UPON REACHING WORK THE SOUND WAS FAINT AFTER THE WORK DAY ENDED THERE WAS A PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. IT HASN'T RAINED SINCE THANK GOD WOULD THIS BE PART OF A RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH JUST OVER 13000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT ABOUT 65 MPH I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST OVER MY HEAD. THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD SHATTERED (MORE LIKE EXPLODED) LEAVING ABOUT A 2 FOOT CIRCULAR HOLE IN THE GLASS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT ME BUT WHEN I PULLED OVER I COULD OBVIOUSLY SEE THAT THE GLASS WAS MUSHROOMED OUT AS IF IT HAD EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, NOT PUSHED IN. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY NISSAN DEALER AND THEY AGREED THAT THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT ANYTHING HAD HIT THE GLASS AND THAT IT HAD SIMPLY SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THEY ALSO POINTED OUT CHIPS IN THE PAINT ON THE ROOF AND TRUNK LID CAUSED BY THE PIECES OF BROKEN GLASS. AFTER FIRST DENYING ANY COVERAGE, NISSAN NOW HAS AGREED TO PAY FOR THE NEW GLASS AS A "GOODWILL REPAIR" BUT THEY STILL REFUSE TO PAY FOR INSTALLATION OR THE PAINT DAMAGE. THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP THE INSTALLATION AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS COVERING THE $2500 OF PAINT DAMAGE. I DID CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO APPEAL THEIR DECISION BUT WAS VERY CURTLY DENIED AGAIN. *LN

THE CONTACT OBSERVED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THAT ANY TIME THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL SELECTOR LEVER WAS ENGAGED IN AN UPWARD POSITION TO ACTIVATE, THE HEADLIGHTS OPERATION OCCURRED. THE TURN SIGNAL SELECTOR LEVER INCLUDES THE FUNCTION OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. THE VEHILCE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE AUTHORIZED DEALER. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS.
