SUSPENSION:REAR
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE REAR SUBFRAME MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRACK IN A BRACKET WHICH HOLDS PART OF THE REAR SUSPENSION.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR SUBFRAME TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY AND REPLACE IT, IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 27, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

THE REAR SUSPENSION HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING THE WHEEL WILL SCRAPE AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. YOU CAN'T FIT MORE THE TWO PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE TWO FRONT EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS DON'T PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHTING TO EVEN SEE THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. ITS EXTREMELY LOW/DENSE LIGHTING EVEN AFTER CHANGING OUT THE BULBS. THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY, WAIT, TURN IT AGAIN, WAIT FOR THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO COME ON, THEN FINALLY THE CAR WILL START. THE POWER TRAIN GEAR CONTROL IS ANOTHER WAITING GAME. TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, I FIRST HAVE TO SLOWLY SHIFT THOUGH EACH GEAR BEFORE FINALLY PUTTING INTO DRIVE. ONCE I DO PUT IT INTO DRIVE THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JOLT FORWARD BEFORE I'M ABLE TO START DRIVING THE CAR. I RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED CAUSE IT JUST STOPPED WHILE IN MOTION AND STRUGGLED TO START UP AGAIN. IT FINALLY DID, BUT IT COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 1ST GEAR. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR HOME. ALSO, FEW YRS BACK I HAD THE HEAD GASKET REPLACED CAUSE THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD ALSO NOT START UP AGAIN IF I HAD JUST TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. IT NEEDED TIME TO COOL OFF BEFORE RESTARTING FOR ME. AND AS OF THIS MOMENT, THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN. THIS TIME IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. WHILE IT'S IDLING, IT'S MAKING A VERY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND. IT'S JUST NEVER ENDING WITH THIS CAR. I KNOW THERE WERE MANY RECALLS ON THE ENGINE, EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND REAR SUSPENSION BUT I NEVER GOT THE NOTICES.
BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON 9/19/2018. PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE SERVICE THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS RUSTING UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER SIDE. I COULDN'T PICTURE WHAT THEY WERE DESCRIBING SO I ASKED TO SEE AND I TOOK A PICTURE. SUBSEQUENTLY, I WAS INFORMED BY SOMEONE ELSE (NOT NISSAN) THAT THIS HAS BEEN A LONG STANDING ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL & YEAR (2006). IT POTENTIALLY COULD AFFECT MY SUSPENSION/STEERING AND ALSO CAUSE A PASSENGER TO FALL THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT THAT THEY EVEN SENT OUT A 13 PAGE ILLUSTRATED BULLETIN TITLED "FLOOR PANEL REPAIR" ON 7/6/2015 TO THE DEALERS ABOUT A KIT THEY DEVELOPED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM; YET, THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. JUST TODAY, 12/11/19, I INCIDENTALLY FOUND OUT MY PARTICULAR DEALERSHIP HAS HAD NUMEROUS CASES FOR THE NISSAN PATHFINDER. UNSURE OF WHAT YEAR(S) BUT IT WAS A HUGE ISSUE AND THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A RECALL IN THOSE INSTANCES. THERE IS A HISTORY OF THIS WITH ALTIMAS 2002-2006 & MAXIMAS 2004-2008. I'VE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE BULLETIN. BUT WHAT MADE MATTERS WORSE WAS BETWEEN 1/9/19-3/20/19 THERE WERE A NUMBER OF SEVERE POTHOLES ON NJ 95 SOUTH OF WHICH KNOCKED MY SUSPENSION/STEERING OFF. (55-60MPH). IT FELT LIKE ALL OF THE WHEELS WERE COMING OFF. THIS ADDS TO THE RISK THE ERRODING PANEL LEADING TO THE AXLES, OTHER SUSPENSION, ETC. POSES & COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME INOPERABLE AND THE CONTACT FELT THE REAR SUSPENSION DROP. THROUGH THE REARVIEW MIRROR, THE CONTACT OBSERVED SPARKS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME. THE DEALER (NISSAN KIA OF MIDDLETOWN, 4961 ROUTE 17M, NEW HAMPTON, NY 10958) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V046000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE REAR CONTROL ARM DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD IT TOWED TO HIS HOME. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CONTROL ARM WAS WELDED FROM ALUMINUM TO METAL AND HE COULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE DEALER (NISSAN KIA OF MIDDLETOWN, 4961 NY-17M, NEW HAMPTON, NY 10958, (845) 374-6555) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 213,000. *TT
I PURCHASED A VEHICLE FROM PYRAMID MOTORS. THE SECOND WEEK I GOT IT I WAS HEADED TO WORK AND THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE CAME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED PYRAMID AND SINCE I HAD A 30 DAY WARRANTY THEY AGREED TO FIX IT THEY TOOK IT TO WEST MEMPHIS THIE TOW TRUCK GUY SAID OH IT NOTHING THE AXLE JUST SLIPPED OUT WE'LL FIX IT AND IT WILL BE READY THE NEXT MORNING. THEY CALLED THE NEXT DY AND SAID IT WAS READY. I WENT AND PICKED IT UP. A WEEK OR TWO LATER THE CRANKING SYSTEM STARTED ACTING UP AND THE SAME AXLE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LIGHT START COMING OFF AND ON. I CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS SUPPOSSED TO BE FIX WAS MESSING UP AGAIN. I INFORMED THEM THAT THIS WAS A PART THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED WHEN THE WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT SO I INFORMED THEM THAT I LOOKED THE CAR UP ON THE NATIONAL RECALL LIST AND THAT SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT I WAS HAVING WS ON THAT LIST. I THEN INFORMED THEM THAT I WOULD NOT MAKE A PAYMENT UNTIL THEY AGREEDVTO FIX WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED WHEN I HAD MY WARRANTY. I ALSO INFORMED THEM THAT I HAD CHECKED THE MAKE MODEL OF CAR ON THE NATIONAL RECALL LIST AND THAT IT WAS ON THERE AND THAT I SAW IT AGAIN ON THE NEWS RECENTLY AND THAT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO SALE RECALL CARS THE LADY NAME JENNIFER SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 937 TO RETREIVE MY CEHICLE THEN GO ACROSS THE STREET TO THE OFFICE AND TALK TO A GUY NAMED BRIAN. I ASKED WHY WOULD I HAVE TO PAY THE REPOSSESSION BEFORE SOMEONE COULD DO ANYTHING AND THEY HUNG UP WHENEBER I CALL I CANT LEAVE A MESSAGE THEY HARDLY ANSWER THE PHONE AND THEY KEEP THE ANSWERING MACHINE FULL WHERE NO MESSAGES CAN BE LEFT.
MY ENTIRE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSNEGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD HAS ROTTED OUT COMPLETELY. IM TALKING I CAN PUT MY FOOT THROUGH IT. I HEAD ALL OF IT FALL OUT DRIVING DOWN THE I-90. THIS CAR IS RUST FREE FROM FLORIDA. THIS IS SUCH BS AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
ENGINE VIBRATION: BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL, CAUSING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL. IN ADDITION, THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS SITTING ABNORMALLY LOW TO THE GROUND AND WAS SITTING NOTICEABLY LOWER THAN THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE ENGINE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY CAR AS SUDDENLY CUTOFF, WHILE DRIVING!!!! LUCKILY, NOBODY WAS EVER PHYSICALLY HURT. MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF SEVERAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING MYSELF. WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY I'VE STARTED TO NOTICE MY CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING DOWN AFTER A CERTAIN SPEED, WITHOUT ME EVEN TOUCHING THE BRAKES. FOR AWHILE I STOPPED GETTING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, IN FEAR OF MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPING WITH CARS DRIVING BEHIND ME AT A FASTER PACE. ALSO, AT 55 + MILES/HR MY TIRES START TO WOBBLE AND THERE'S A SCRUBBING NOISE WITH THE WOBBLE SOMETIMES. IT FEELS LIKE MY BACK TIRES ARE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. I'VE BOUGHT 3 SETS OF TIRES ALREADY, AND TOMORROW WILL BE MY 4TH SET. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND VERY UNSAFE!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME, THANKS. *TR

I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THESE RECALLS AND THEY BOTH APPEAR TO BE VERY SERIOUS. 1- (#06V223000) FROM JUNE 2006 INVOLVING "ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING" THAT LISTS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND POSSIBLY ENGINE FIRE AND 2- (06V0046000) FROM FEB. 2006 INVOLVING REAR SUSPENSION AND POSSIBLY A CRACKED BRACKET. I HAVE HAD TO ADD PLENTY OF OIL SINCE BUYING THIS CAR, BUT CANNOT BELIEVE I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD AS THIS, NOT TO MENTION THE DAMAGE IT MUST HAVE ALREADY CAUSED TO THE ENGINE!! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER ON FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. ON EACH OCCASION THE DEALER PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT, ADJUSTED THE STEERING, AND ROTATED THE TIRES. MORE AIR WAS PLACED IN THE TIRES ALSO. AFTER ALL THE REMEDIES PERFORMED IT STILL HAD THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED CASE # 5591789. THE DEALER COULD NOT SEEM TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ALSO, SHE STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN SHE RELEASED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT FOUND COMPLAINT # 10185548 ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REGARDING THE STEERING WHEEL PULLING TO THE LEFT. I BOUGHT MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2.4S SPECIAL EDITION PACKAGE IN DECEMBER 2006. I WAS GOING BACK FROM MY OFFICE TO HOME FOR LUNCH AND JUST NEAR MY OFFICE WHEN I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE "CORPORATE DRIVE" TO TAKE A RIGHT TURN ON TO "TENNYSON PKWY", THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT ON THE RIGHT CURB AND IT WAS REALLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE CAR MOVED SO QUICKLY FROM THE RIGHT CURB TO LEFT CURB (CORPORATE DRIVE WAS A TWO LANE STREET DEAD END TO TENNYSON), I BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. THIS 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA CAR NEEDS TO BE CHECKED FOR SAFETY, IT LEAD TO LOS OF CONTROL. I HAVE REGISTERED THE COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN AS WELL FOR MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS NOT IN RECALL LIST AT "THAT" TIME FOR THE NHTSA# 06V-046. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE RIGHT. WHEN TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND BALANCED. ALSO, THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED. THE STEERING PROBLEM CONTINUED, BUT PULLED TO THE LEFT AND WAS MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE SALES DEALER. ALL TIRES WERE REPLACED AND BALANCED, AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS INSPECTED. THE SALES DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THE PROBLEM HAD TO DO WITH THE WRONG SIZED TIRES THAT WERE MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH THE TIRES WERE MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE SALES DEALER, WHEN THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THEN BY GIGGLING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT, THE STEERING UNLOCKED AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT. I PURCHASED A 2006 ALTIMA 2.5 S IN MAR 2006, IT DRIVES GOOD WITH LESS NOTICEABLE WEAVE ON BLACKTOP HIGHWAYS, HOWEVER IT IS UNSTABLE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE EVEN AT 60-70 MPH, IT DRIFTS LEFT AND RIGHT WITHOUT MOVING STEERING WHEEL, YOU HAVE TO STEADY MAKE CORRECTIONS IN STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT TO KEEP IT FROM UNSAFELY DRIFTING IN THE OTHER LANE. THE DEALER HAS ROTATED TIRES, BALANCED. EVEN TOOK A RIDE WITH ME AND SAID HE NOTICED NOTHING REALLY. I DROVE ANOTHER CAR AT DEALERSHIP JUST LIKE IT, IT DOES THE SAME THING ON INTERSTATE, I DRIVE 100 MILES DAILY TO AND FROM ON INTERSTATE SO IT IS NOT AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY BECAUSE IT IS EVIDENT THE CAR IS UNSTABLE FOR INTERSTATE USE, ALMOST UNDRIVEABLE IF WIND BLOWING SLIGHTLY. *NM
