2021 Jeep Wrangler Suspension Problems

This is a 2021 Jeep with 23,000 miles on it. We inherited the Jeep after my father in law that passed away a few months ago. My wife was coming from Hampton Virginia going through the [XXX].

Drag link and tie rod links failed under 50,000 miles. This has caused an extremely unsafe driving scenario for both occupants and other drivers. This is a well known issue within the automobile community, condition is nicknamed death wobble.

I was driving off the lot entering the interstate when the steering started wobbling and pulling upon accelerating and likely hitting a bump. Took back to dealership and 2 mechanics drove it and one with me in which nothing really happened compared to the surprising first incident. They are not a Jeep dealership but reassured me all normal for Jeep but will do whatever it takes to make right.

While traveling at highway speed crossed a road expansion joint and the vehicle began to shake. On this particular trip of approximately 250 miles, It only occurred at these higher speeds. Slowing down eliminated the "Death Wobble." A TSB has been issued that possibly addresses this issue.

When driving on an uneven or bumpy highway my stock Jeep wrangler experiences the infamous “death wobble”. It has done this several times when going 40 or over and hitting small bumps or uneven pavement. Slowing down to around 20 or 25 resolves the issue.

At 45 to approximately 60mph, I have twice encountered the infamous "Death Wobble" where hitting a small bump in the road triggers a violent shake of the entire front suspension, steering wheel, and this continues violently until the vehicle is brought to a full stop. A firm hold on the steering wheel is needed to prevent an accident, but this is a serious accident just waiting to happen.

I was driving on Route 80 outside of Des Moines, IA around 75 MPH in normal driving conditions. Twice driving westbound and once driving eastbound, I hit an otherwise unremarkable bump/crack in the highway and the Jeep ‘Death Wobble’ occurred. Having owned a 2012 Wrangler before and with less than 20,000 miles on this Jeep and no modifications, I was quite surprised.

I have experienced the famous Jeep Death Wobble in the past with my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport...same model as now, so I knew what I was experiencing. Took my vehicle in on 10/16/2023 to the Morgan Hill Jeep store where I bought the vehicle indicating that vehicle was unsafe to drive due to shaky front end suspension. Was told that the tech could not verify my complaint but they replaced the steering damper under a recall.

On several occasions the vehicle experienced the 'death wobble' this is a known issue and was recalled on earlier models but the 2021 has not been recalled. The suspension shakes aggressively out of nowhere at highway speeds. This is extremely dangerous! The entire car shakes and rattles aggressively on the highway, it is so easy to lose control of the vehicle! I could not get it to stop and had to dangerously pull over on the side of the highway!

Driving on an Interstate Highway in Florida, hit a small "rut" in the roadway at Highway speeds and the front end started shaking "VIOLENTLY" to the point I though the vehicle was going to "Roll Over". I had to slow down, switch from the center lane of a three lane highway crossing over the outside lane then onto the shoulder of the Highway, get the speed down from 70 to 50 mph before the "Violent Shaking" stopped. When speaking with a service center for Jeep I was told this is a "KNOWN ISSUE" with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler but there is no recall for the vehicle year 2021 BUT there were for other vehicle years, which I find UNBELEIVABLE!!!! As a retired Police Officer I will tell you this is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY OR SOMEONE WILL GET KILLED IN A CRASH!!!

Jeep Death Wobble. While driving at 65 mph on the freeway, I drove over a small bump in the road. My vehicle started to shake uncontrollably. The shaking would not stop until I slowed down to under 30 MPH. This is very unsafe to do while driving on a busy CA freeway. The first time this shaking happened my vehicle had about 26,000 miles. Within the next 1000 miles of driving, the wobble has happened approximately 10 more times, one of which the vehicle went off the road into a ditch. I contacted Jeep and they said they would not fix the problem because the 3-yr/36,000 mile warranty expired. I asked if they were ok with having unsafe vehicles on the road and they said "yes". The front suspension is the system that failed. My safety was at risk when the vehicle was shaiking and went off the road. The safety of other drivers was at risk when I had to slow down to under 30 MPH to get my vehicle to stop shaking. The vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership for inspection/repair but they would not diagnose the problem without me pre-paying a $250 fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent service center and the problem was confirmed. The vehicle was not inspected byt he manufacturer, police, or insurance. There were no warning lights or symptoms before this problem first appeared.

The front and rear driver side shocks were both leaking oil discovered by the local Jeep dealership service department. This looks to be a common occurrence as others with same make, model, and year have also experienced this problem with the leaking shocks. This failure in the shocks did cause a vehicle wobble at higher speeds while on the highway.

Freeway speeds are around 65 MPH. The Jeep has a vibration that was confirmed not to be tire balance-related. When on uneven roads, the jeep can sometimes wobble so severely that it's hard to control.

If I am driving at any rate of speed over 50mph-- and drive over almost any road imperfection-- literally not even a pothole but a change from one section of road to another-- the car/ steering wheel starts shaking violently-- I have to drop down to about 30-35mph for it to resolve-- sometimes I have to come to a complete stop and start up again. The upper spring perch located at passenger rear is welded to the frame on one side and a crossmember on another. The two vertical welds failed with the remaining welds being at the top of the spring perch. The only indications of a problem were an occasional knocking sound when going over a bump and severe vibration coming from the rear of the vehicle.

I was driving on the expressway when the engine suddenly slowed the car, I lost all ability to use the gas pedal. The deal found metal shavings in the engine leading to the engine being replaced. Drivers side rear bushing/suspension issue which causes creaking and abnormal noise. This was believed to by a defective bushing by an independent automotive repair shop. When shown video evidence of the issue, they agreed it was abnormal, but “couldn’t recreate the issue on their own.

Today doing approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour on highway 20 in Ft Worth just hit approximately 1 1/2 inch transition in pavement where they had added an extra layer of asphalt in the lane I was in the vehicle started wabbeling so bad I thought it was going to change lanes, approximately 10 miles later it did the same thing again felt like the front wheels were about to come off the vehicle.

Just got a used 2021 jeep wrangler sport on 2/24/23. Has only 16,000 miles on it. My second day of driving it the car starts to shake violently while going at speeds of 60 or more.
